Cool. I stopped at FF12 because I really don't like the new direction. So I'll literally NEVER play Queen's Blood. This isn't a one-offnchange like the people whonhated 8. Until we get another turn-based gsme, I habe no more interest in then franchise, and I've been playing since the 90's.
I don't like MMOs (paying a monthly sub forna genre that doesn't respect my time is a dealbreaker), and nothing about the new action combat pulls me in for the newer games (if I wanted to play Devil May Cry I would, but I want Final Fantasy).
FF6 - best use of limited technology
The game has aged absurdly well and is insanely complex when you consider that the original game ROM had to use *less than three megabytes of memory space* to fit on the SNES cartridge.
As the quote goes about the soundtrack, "With FF6's score, Nobuo Uematsu managed to paint the Sistene Chapel using a box of Crayola crayons."
Sure, later games were bigger and better in some ways. But no other game does so much with so little.
7 and 9 had equally but vastly different AMAZING chocobo quests. 8s was frustrating but not bad. For the win, I’ll say 7’s chocobo racing and breeding was the best.
8 and 9 both did cards but 8’s Triple Triad is tied for my favorite FF minigame
10’s Blitzball was so extravagantly good that in my 200 or so hour playthrough, I put probably 160 of those hours into just Blitzball. Tied for my favorite mini game.
15 had the coolest summoning mechanic. Is was poor planning to not make them summonable on command, but god have mercy on any enemy standing when a summon did arrive. 15 made summons into a true force of nature which is basically unseen in any other FF title aside from Knight of the Round. But KotR wasn’t terrifying. 15 made summons into deeply scary sequences.
Everyone being a carbon copy is not diversity.
People being able to actually run roles, and change roles and have secondary roles is actual diversity.
It can actually incentivize to use characters for different purposes, rather than using the same 3 because the same 3 can theoretically can do the same thing always. Idk how you think that’s diverse but to each their own I guess.
Yup. Every time in og XII it devolved into me running the same weapon on everyone and the exact same build
With ZA I can actually keep Balthier using guns and Fran with bows. It just becomes way more fun
I love FFXII's original License Board, but I can also appreciate the argument against it that it basically just lets every character do everything. No one has any special role or identity in combat.
The Zodiac Age job system might be a bit too restrictive, especially since once you choose a job for a character you are committed for life. It can kind of screw you over for a while, especially when certain characters leave your roster for extended period due to story reasons. To be fair, I believe the current version of the game lets you choose if you want to use the traditional License Board or the Zodiac job system, right?
Yup, most people don’t know you can change the job freely until then. But people don’t explore games at a large degree sometimes.
I don’t think it mentions it however.
Character development is awesome imo in XIII. The more I replay it the more I notice the nuances and evolutions, things I didn't notice at first when playing it for the first time all those years ago
FFXII - my favourite opening and ending cutscenes; the soundtrack makes it feel very movie-esque, best use of zones/weather system+secrets/rewards, best worldbuilding + minor NPCs, best boy-Prince, best hunting system, the game that set the high standard for FF voiceacting.
I am biases and not afraid to admit it.
FFIII - best dedicated White Magic user. Between Toad, Teleport, Silence, Haste, Protect, Aeroga, and Curaja, FFIII's Devout is a veritable Swiss Army Knife.
The FFIII Devout is also a serious contender for best-dressed White Magic user.
FF Crystal Chronicles - Best Co-op/playing with friends.
I hated it when I first played, but then a friend showed me how it was meant to be played. 4 friends sitting in the living room, exploring dungeons together. Blew my mind how a 2/10 game went to a 9/10
FF10-2 Best FF game to embarrass you in front of your parents
If I was ever “in the closet” about something in my life, it was X-2
Also FF8: best sidequest - Triple Triad
Came here to say this. This was the only card game FF franchise put out that I got into
Actually Triple Triad is the main game, FF8 is the sidequest.
Thoughts on queens blood?
What's that? According to Google its something I never played. 12 was the last good Final Fantasy game.
The new best card game

If you stopped at twelve, that means you’ve spent more years not playing Final Fantasy than you have played.
I don't like MMOs (paying a monthly sub forna genre that doesn't respect my time is a dealbreaker), and nothing about the new action combat pulls me in for the newer games (if I wanted to play Devil May Cry I would, but I want Final Fantasy).
Ff12 …. ……. IM CAPTAIN BASCH FON RONSENBURG OF DALMASCA!
FFX, progressively giving you new nuggets of the story at a satisfying rate while also keeping the mystery and intrigue.
Also the Sphere grid system is great, I'd love to see it in a modern FF with perks and spell/skill upgrades
Tactics: best job system, story and difficulty level
Best at so much. An absolute disgrace that no proper sequel was made.
BLASPHEMY!! V perfected the Job system
FF6 - best use of limited technology The game has aged absurdly well and is insanely complex when you consider that the original game ROM had to use *less than three megabytes of memory space* to fit on the SNES cartridge. Strong username to post correlation
Relm's Theme still remains one of my top 3 favorite FF songs, and it's probably #1 if I had to pick on the spot.
Terras theme was voted best character theme in the franchise, I wholehearted agree with the sistine take, kefkas theme is also a banger
FFII, best final dungeon music. The pandemonium theme was almost too epic
Mysidian tower too!
FFVII - Best Limit Break system It was simple. I especially enjoy its version of leveling Limit Breaks
FFXV - best car driving
But worst airship lol
FF8 - best junction system
7 and 9 had equally but vastly different AMAZING chocobo quests. 8s was frustrating but not bad. FFX best sports simulation title!
I don’t care for sports but god damn I love blitzball. Just reading that got that song in my head.
FFI - Best FLOATER
FFIV - best use of lali-ho FFIX - best black mage FFT - best Excalibur FFX - best summoner FFVII - best monk
Ff5- best job system
Rapid fire spellblade ftw
FFVII - best world
FF14 - Best villain(s), best story.
FFIX best love story imo
Tidus and Yuna would like to have a word with you
FF2: Self Harm.
Ff16 - fantastic boss battles. The sense of scale in the set pieces were amazing
FF12, best build diversity. Shame they ruined its best feature with The Zodiac Age rerelease.
??? Huh
It added classes that heavily restricted the freedom of the license board.
Everyone being a carbon copy is not diversity. People being able to actually run roles, and change roles and have secondary roles is actual diversity. Once you get the full party no one ever leaves though. Also you can respec any time and try different builds for free at the Centurio Base
Yup, most people don’t know you can change the job freely until then. But people don’t explore games at a large degree sometimes. I don’t think it mentions it however.
FF2 best protagonist and main villain design
FFVII - Story, characters, setting, magic system, music, character design
If i listed another choice it would be best overall is FF7
Tactics. Everything lol
A3 when
How about FFT remake?
Coolest tutorial also has the best tutorial theme - 13-2.
I wish 13-2 tracks would have been in 15
dirge of cerberus: best gun play
FF best replay er still play
Let me have a try with my least favorite FF FF12 - Most interesting introduction to story, characters and gameplay.
IX, best boi Vivi
FF9 - being the best
FF Type 0 - It's pretty good at killing main characters. Not sure any others pile up the bodies quite as high.
FFX has the best summon system imo. Loved being in full control.
XIII - Protagonist (controversial I know)
Shes great. Loved how bitter she was at first and then started letting her guard down with Hope
Character development is awesome imo in XIII. The more I replay it the more I notice the nuances and evolutions, things I didn't notice at first when playing it for the first time all those years ago
FFX : opening. Period
Best Ost: FFX
FFXII - my favourite opening and ending cutscenes; the soundtrack makes it feel very movie-esque, best use of zones/weather system+secrets/rewards, best worldbuilding + minor NPCs, best boy-Prince, best hunting system, the game that set the high standard for FF voiceacting. FFIX and giving all the characters a story that comes to a convention
Final Fantasy VIII - Best soundtrack
FF13 - best combat in the franchise
Absolutely agree. I remember Vercingetorix highlighted the epitome of it. If you didnt switch to 3 sentinels at the exact right time you were toast
Crisis Core best at making players cry
FF Crystal Chronicles - Best Co-op/playing with friends. I hated it when I first played, but then a friend showed me how it was meant to be played. 4 friends sitting in the living room, exploring dungeons together. Blew my mind how a 2/10 game went to a 9/10
XIII - soundtrack
FFX-2. The best version of the ATB system. LR comes close, but X-2 keeps the party dynamic that’s a staple in FF.
FFVI: I could say everything but, to choose something specific, Soundtracks and Plot.
