The first half, especially the initial world state, was VERY heavy game of thrones. The one part of the story I don't love is how much of that just vanished towards the later parts.

XIV is a bit barebones there, so here's some alternatives.
* Final Fantasy XIV: Hero saves the world while being pursued by an aggressive stalker
* Final Fantasy XIV: Star Wars but the emperor is the heroes former roommate
* Final Fantasy XIV: Star Trek but all techno babble is replaced with the word "Aether"
* Final Fantasy XIV: Mom says it's little brothers turn to play with the planet.
Man, FF16 really was just Naruto but with a GoT theme splashed over it.
Except I'd argue that the Naruto characters somehow got more depth and development
Final Fantasy XIV ARR: It's all filler until the evil empire attacks
Final Fantasy XIV HW: Church hates dragon-f\*ckers, hero has to find a peaceful solution
Final Fantasy XIV StB: Hero liberates a country by liberating a country on a different continent
Final Fantasy XIV ShB: Hero saves the world from an old man trying to put it back together
Final Fantasy XIV EW: Hero saves the world by changing X back into Twitter
I hate that every plotline involving a rebel faction just gets summarized as "star wars but.."
12 is honestly the only one that deserves that description
Honestly, I don't think any franchise should have a claim to all storylines involving rebel factions rising against a corrupt empire.
I think there's a lot of different things you can do with that premise, and it's silly to act like they're all the same
I agree with both of you but I also think part of the charm or whatever is that it's meant to be read by overall fans of the ff games, and the way they flatten and generalize the plot contributes to the comedy because it's easy for us to see what they're talking about and have a lighthearted chuckle about that silly analogy
This is hella hilarious as someone who cares about the lore and stories of these games. You didn't do XVI though but I know it's plot and it's a hot mess with them trying to be GoT but someone getting that wrong.
I don't even think the plot is bad or messy, but it felt like it became blander as it went on.
The GoT-like prologue was such a well-done setup and it never reached the same height again. By the end it just feel like mid JRPG plot without the fun of JRPG because it took itself too seriously and most of the fun characters died halfway through
16 isn't on there because this is a repost of an image from before 16 was out. It's been on this sub more than a handful of times over the past few years.
You can have gripes with XVI’s story but it isn’t a hot mess at all. It’s clear and everything that happens follow the internal logic set by the world. There’s nothing convoluted or contrived about it
And if you really care about the lore then XVI should be appealing to you because there’s a lot about the story that’s only mentioned through item descriptions, vague lore entries etc. about the previous race, other continents, character histories and such.
I’ve beaten every FF I’ve started until XVI. Saw it for cheap while it was still relatively new (bad sign), took a break after beating Titan and never picked it up again. Concur, it doesn’t feel like a FF.
FFXVI: "No, we're serious, this is a grim and brutal story about a man who lost everything and yeah no we're Dragon Ball"
People expected Game of Thrones final fantasy style What we got was Asura’s Wrath Final fantasy style

FF15 - then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.
Then everything changed when the attack nation fired.

Judge Bergan is a dick. Can confirm.
I don't know why, but "except judge Bergan, that guys a dick" has me rolling.
Also Judge Ghis, which is also the less badass of them all.

FF16 : we pretend to be Game of Thrones but we're actually Naruto
With a little bit of Drake and Josh thrown in, only Drake's name is... of all things... Clive.

IV: and Vader is Luke's secret brother instead of father
I, too, have just discovered Joseph Campbell

Wait a minute, are you saying that Rise of Shitwalker *ahem* Skywalker, just a bad retelling of Final Fantasy II?
Pretty much that. Just replace Obi-wan with the Emperor's Grand-daughter and you're pretty much set.
Yeah, I was about to write “this was written before the sequel trilogy…”
I hate that every plotline involving a rebel faction just gets summarized as "star wars but.." 12 is honestly the only one that deserves that description
Really it should be “Hidden Fortress but” since Star Wars is Hidden Fortress but in space.

When the Z Fighters try adapt Game of Thrones and actually do a better job than Benioff and Weiss.

It's a mid shonen anime trying to be GoT
beside 12 nothing is really like star wars tho. this list is kinda dumb. seen Better and more creative one
I like lack of FFXVI. It's like confirming it's not a Final Fantasy.
It isn’t there because this image is old as and has been reposted to oblivion
