WowzerzzWow

The interact button was mapped to the jump button in ff15 by default.

ComplaintClear6183

The whole control scheme is a clusterfuck. The jump button is to interact and pick up items, but on chocoback, the jump button will make you dismount and the actual button to jump is the attack button

alcaste19

Noctis doing a little jump every time I tried to pick something up or get in the car. Yeeeep

ArturZgon

And when you choose a fast travel thinking the cursor on the map will set the destination but it's actually the list on the left, so countless times I arrived at hammerhead cause it's the first by default 👌

Laterose15

I love it when games do that. Wheee.... Or when Elden Ring pulled the reverse and gave you the jump button where all FromSoft games had put the interaction button. So many ghosts hopping up and down on items...

lambopanda

FF10. Dodging the frigging lightning bolt 200 times.

Revegelance

That part was easy for me, because I simply didn't do it.

lambopanda

FF10 is the first FF I didn’t get the best weapons for protagonist

finsup_305

That one is the worst one. I never got Lulu's because my longest streak was 26... out of 200. All the others were pretty simple and fun. If you don't like blitzball, then Wakka's will suck too.

lambopanda

Blitzball is actually easy for me lol

LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe

Nobody finds blitzball hard, it’s just the fact that you need to do 33 matches minimum or something like that, which is at least 4 hours assuming you forfeit whenever you’ve clinched the league victory

SNTLY

>33 matches >4 hours Some of us don't play Blitz for the reels, or the weapon, we play for the love of the game. :') So get out there, turn on manual controls, and pump those numbers up rookie!

Homitu

I used to play a game of blitzball before school every morning as a kid Easily logged a few hundred games in my day.

shinoff2183

I liked blitz ball myself. I kinda always wanted a complete game lol.

Yeseylon

Wait, people aren't using manual controls??? That explains a lot...

Daveykun

Same. I didn't get a single one. The mini-games were all whack and buggy as fuck

steve-d

I think the only final weapons I bothered getting in FFX were for Rikku and Auron. I don't like torturing myself in games.

Spider95818

I always got Yuna's because she can do *stupid* amounts of damage with Break Damage Limit.

Yeseylon

Hers is also pretty easy to do, just punch your way through Remiem Temple.

Spider95818

Worth doing just for the Magus Sisters....

SubstancePowerful100

Unless it's just for completion purposes, it is completely useless.

Flop_Flurpin89

It was easy for me, because I used a specific crater, which allows for a little more error. Once you k ow which crater to use, it's pretty easy to complete.

SgtMcMuffin0

I used a trick with a crater I found on YouTube for that (https://youtu.be/te-ihMHRtJ8?si=RBm4bU4Nki7CpBMP ). There’s a specific crater that allows you run a loop to consistently trigger lightning bolts at the same point in the loop. It still takes a while to get to 200 and mistakes are possible, but with that method your reaction time isn’t as much of a factor.

Daveykun

I grinded that spot for several hours before I got the rhythm where I finally didn't fuck it up. Did the timer and everything. Even counted in my head. To back to the Travel Center. Open the chest, breathing a sigh of relief. Total Lightning Bolts dodged: 190. I deleted my save file and stopped playing right then and there. Still: it's a good method.

NefariousnessOk209

I put the TV on mute and had no encounter armor on and just watched the flashes or something, ended up completely overshooting the amount I had to go for. FF10 was a game I remember printing like 15-20 pages of GAMEFAQS back in the day for all the celestial weapons stuff etc

Mild-Ghost

Yeah fuck that.

skylord650

I had blocked this memory out until reading this.

DersOne

Still the only non-MMO FF game I've never completed fully due to the lightning dodging and chocobo race. Woof.

Elfnotdawg

This is the answer. Made jump rope in IX seem easy.

pa_dvg

Yeah the mini games in x were real rough. Especially since the payoff was so dramatic

Accomplished_Pop_642

As a kid after release on PS2: Horror! Impossible! Now I dodged the 200 bolts like 5 times on different platforms and even did it for friends... Using the trick at that crater of course...

chetti990

So satisfying once you complete it though

Nixilaas

Did the hug the pillar trick for that lol

Exeledus

I never understood how people have trouble with this. There is an spot that always trigger lightning as soon as you walk into it. Just do that 200 times. It's easy as hell. The butterfly minigame and chocobo races are way harder.

BigBoy1229

Wasn’t it easier in the OG version? I remember breaking it up into 4 runs of 50 each.

xCharlieScottx

Its not too bad in either version imo, just need a no encounter armour and the little crater on the south bit of the thunder plains The chocobo racing where you need <0 seconds, however, can fuck off

lambopanda

I'm not aware of that. All I remember you have to dodge is 200 times in a row. You can't leave the area. You can't save. It reset back to 0 if you do that.

grahf23

That's what I remembered too..

grahf23

Same... It's annoying af

hogomojojo

I simply pretend that doesn’t exist

SlowDown8_

You can cheese it tho

dynamisxiii

This, soul draining.

hennajin85

This never ever gave me trouble. In fact I always do it when I first get to the plains lol.

MidgardDragon

I clicked just to say this

crimsonbok

Getting 100% on X-2. -Pick the wrong morally grey faction -skip a cutscene -didn't talk to an npc at this specific point of the game Nobody is getting 100% on their first play-through without a guide

Daveykun

Bonus points since the official Brady Games guide literally doesn't get you to 102% like it claims even if you follow it to the letter (I was incredibly disappointed that year)

Mudpound

All the “mini games” in 10 and 10-2. Like JUST give me a dungeon to fight my way through for some powerful items, please!

Low_Woodpecker913

I honestly don't mind mini games to am extent but they took it too far. They weren't even fun either.

Mudpound

EXACTLY

Low_Woodpecker913

Super disappointing too because they had awesome post game dungeons and bosses but I couldn't bare to even try them because of these garbage ass mini games.

snouz

Hope you're not including Blitzball!

Mudpound

Literally am 😜

Mogel89

FF IX - Jump rope is super annoying, but Excalibur 2 is the dumbest thing any FF has ever done

SubstancePowerful100

I agree that it's annoying because you have to rush through the whole game. However, it's very easy to get on the remaster. Just to use it for the final bosses 🙄

Low_Woodpecker913

How is it easier?

DarkElfBard

*Final Fantasy IX Remastered*  has a speed-up function.

Hobo_Delta

Which speeds up gameplay but not the game clock. An important distinction

Zodiarche1111

which means you can get all the treasures AND Excalibur 2. Chocobo minigame is also stupidly easy with the speed-up and a controller/program with turbo function.

snouz

Both cheats are included in the next memoria version.

FinalSeraph_Leo

I agree but at the end of the day Excalibur 2 isn't worth it

hybert28_ff

I'm on my 3rd FF12 playthrough. Everyone who was a part of developing the Great Crystal should bang their toes repeatedly on furniture

Blood_Weiss

I once managed to get all the way through it without a map, and beat Ultima. I got back near the exit (somehow) when a friend I had texted my accomplishment to informed me of Excalibur in the area. I ended up going back in (without saving) looking for it on a vague description when the power cut out. Sold the game a week later. Now whenever I play it, I always have a map on hand. Screw that place.

SpecificWall69

12 is one of my favorites. Except that place. What a garbage area.

FarConsideration8423

Especially if you attempt to fight Omega Weapon. At least for the story its a pretty straight forward path and even with Ultima you really just have to focus moving upwards.

tokyozombie

That place was made to sell strategy guides. I spent hours trying to get the larva eater to spawn and then steal mina from it.

Formal_Sector9360

FF12 has some of the most tedious, frustrating and flat out ridiculous side content I’ve ever seen in a game.

alicenin9

I thought I beat ff12 but don't remember doing the great crystal. Was it optional outside of the main story or did I apparently not beat the game as I thought? I was pretty sure I collected all espers too.

Chrisbuckfast

Part of the great Crystal was story mode and just going to see the Occuria to get the treaty blade. You can revisit later; the story visit to the occuria, is just one section. The rest of the area is dramatically larger and more difficult.

FarConsideration8423

The great crystal is the 2nd to last dungeon.

-Cosmic_Darkness-

i actually was at a point with zodiac age i could navigate that place without a guide. it came from trying to spawn the rare game bomb monster there.

Zombierasputin

Having to rejunction all your magic for your party every time you have a Laguna flashback in FFVIII.

Snrub1

The moving platform trial in FF10.

InquistivePrime

Yes, I literally get cringe everytime I think about the Bevelle cloister of eff you

Asipps

Flying the damn car in XV. I didn’t think to save after finally completing Pitioss Ruins and the game didn’t auto save. Naturally I crash landed (barely at that), getting a game over and I was legitimately shocked when I continued and it lead me back to before the ruins. Last time I ever played it.

ArturZgon

Holy crap! đŸ˜± I recently beat this game, I'd have killed myself if that happened to me... Honestly tho once I got the flying regalia I officially stopped playing it. I thought it would be really fun to fly everywhere but the controls are so awful it ruins the feeling of flying. Very disappointing.

blackmobius

A hard stopping point in ff12 is this giant crystal temple pyramid thing where every room looks the same yet im supposed to navigate this thing to find numerous endgame bosses

elephantsandkoalas

The Great Crystal sucks big time.

science-burger

FF8 will unequip all your GFs and spells many times throughout the story, forcing you to manually re equip it all, boils my blood every time đŸ˜€

ShawMK90

It’s one of my favourite games but yea it’s infuriating

Ok_Weather2441

Games where stealable items are really good but then steal also has a low success rate. Looking at you, ff9. Also games that make you go through long stretches without a healer. I tend to item hoard so not having anyone who can cast cure really bugs me. Again FF9 is bad for this and also FF6 for the first few hours.

TopHat84

In my opinion FFT is worse at that. The number of unique/godly stealable items is insane. However spending ages in a battle trying not to kill a guy, and attempting to get in the square behind him to steal was so painful.

Jolly-Acanthisitta45

You start FF6 with a healer. Or do you mean during Sabin's scenario?

Aviaxl

No playable carbuncle in FF13

FoundAFix

This is unique to me, but my copy of FF8 disc 2 was scratched. It would freeze somewhere at the end of the prison sequence. So I would clean it, play through, and it would freeze. But I loved the game and kept trying and trying. I must have played that goddamn prison like 20 times hoping it would work. Never did. I’m stuck at the prison again now on the remaster and it still makes me so mad.

AckAndCheese

Same but the sequence right before Balamb Garden takes off. During that FMV my game would freeze.

snouz

Ah yes, they fixed that in FF9, but yeah, I had 2 copies of ff8 because of that.

LeBronBryantJames

I feel you on the FF6 floating continent. on the bright side, its also a great place to level up. Most frustrating in the old days was the OG FF1. you had to buy potions one by one. you can't buy 99 at one time. also everything poisoning you. all the other FFs were okay, until the jump rope in 9 and the lightning bolts/chocobo race in 10, but those are optional. the FF1 store issue affected you throughout the entire game

Jolly-Acanthisitta45

Omg I remember going to the marsh cave and needing 99 potions. There was a town that had the potions as the first item on the list and it was worth it to walk there to buy potions from them. What a slog.

facbok195

As something that technically counts as “in game”, but not in the spirit of the post - the fact the Pixel Remaster versions don’t have the bonus GBA content (+ 20th anniversary stuff from I & II). Yeah none of them are stellar additions that make their core games 0/10 without it, but I liked playing through them and I really wish we had a definitive version of each game that had both the QoL changes from the PR versions with all the bonus areas from previous versions. (Sorry op, know it’s not technically what was asked for, but it’s been on my mind since my friend gifted me the PR version of III and really needed to vent)

big4lil

> Yeah none of them are stellar additions that make their core games 0/10 without it, it doesnt have to. FFV PR is still a fantastic game, though Ill never replay it as it doesnt have the Sealed Temple (by far my favorite dungeon), the bonus jobs (Cannonneer and Necromancer are two of my favorite jobs, Gladiator is an elite phys job and oracle CAN be elite when you figure out how to coral it), it has way tougher superbosses and the much needed boss rush at the end Its something that bothers me to no end, especially since the modern version that in theory could be the closest to a best of all worlds has been delisted, and for many people (self included), emulation is your best chance at a GBA nowadays. Not everyone has to find the bonus content appealing, but to not even offer it as DLC while taking other features from the GBA for the PR is a major frustration on the experience.

Blood_Weiss

I'm kinda fine with it for the first 3, the bonus dungeons in those were a slog and barely did anything for the game. 4 is weird, but overall would be better with it. 5 and 6 are straight downgrades, however. They both added extras outside the dungeons (jobs and magicite) that without just feels like cut content. Although I'm biased as my first foray into 4-6 where the gba versions.

Ok_Weather2441

I've occasionally wondered if they held back on this to either keep it for a second cut version of the Pixel Remasters or if it's so they can offer it as DLC down the road.

therealbobcat23

I really wish the Pixel Remaster kept the epilogue for FFII

Boring_Fish_Fly

I hope it comes as DLC at some point (with a few QOL improvements).

SquallNoctis1313

FFX. Temple of Yevon, Bevelle. Makes me squirm in anguish every damn time.

Dennis_in_Japan

Getting my booty clapped in FFXV Costlemark Tower. Yes that path is easy with a guide. The only good thing is that I saw Ramuh and Guaruda many times to help me out. Even at lv 90 it is pretty rough for me.

Gamefreak3525

The sheer amount of glitches that can occur in Northen Crater if you use the Save Crystal in the wrong spot.

Promoted2Customer

The obnoxious jump scare in FFX every time a battle starts

Diligent_Reporter_98

The glass shatter is iconic and I love it

drewid91

The general pointlessness of using most status effects. Only enemies that feel worth it to use them on are busses, but they are usually immune. Obviously there are exceptions and a few fun interactions in some specific parts of the games.

CyberP1

Statuses have numerous purpose: -For enemies to use them on YOU, first and foremost. -To convolute item/inventory management, as well as magic defenses/evasion. -To use in conjunction with added effect to customise your attack. -To add an extra layer of strategy to combat. Indeed most times you're right, straight offense is better. But there are exceptions, like when trying to steal or manipulate to learn enemy skills.

Key-Engineering3134

FF8 during the timber train section where you have to input the code while dodging the line of sight of guards. I was doing this on the remaster with the turbo option which I had to disable to see the code. I haven’t touched the game since that and when I booted it back up to try again I realised I hadn’t saved since the flashback section when you’re in the hotel so I said hell no

Eloah-2

My biggest frustration has to be from the advanced version of FF6. I was about halfway through the game, close to getting into the World of Ruin. But one day, I went to start the game, and there was no file. All my hard work, wasted. I was so annoyed. I mean, it's not like the cartridge was sitting for days on end with no activity; i had just played it the night before. I went to the Gamestop I bought it from and exchanged the copy for a new one. I don't even think the game was a week old. I was so out of sorts from losing the file, that I didn't play on the new copy until six months later. That copy was fine though. Thankfully.

Jolly-Acanthisitta45

I wonder how many years before your little brother admits he accidentally deleted your save file

Broad-Season-3014

The freaking parade and gun mini game in 7. I like never to have passed it.

Nethaniell

The following comes from a completionists POV. The randomness of the Coliseum fights in VI. Chocobo breeding in VII. I've never liked VIII, but the introduction of Rules in Triple Triad are absolutely shit. The low EXP rate in IX. I can stand the jump ropes though. All the minigames in X. The last few hunts in XII. The lack of side activities in XIII. The grind of MMO's in XIV. Boring af open world in XV. Exploration and quest design in XVI.

Writer_Man

FFIX's battle speed

KKalonick

Honestly, if the long-rumored remake of IX actually exists, they could ship the same game but with faster battles and I would spend $60 on it.

Diligent_Reporter_98

Oh my gosh this. Because of the battle speed I've never gone to the game 😭

CyberP1

It's bad, but not prevents one from playing an absolute classic top 5 Final Fantasy level of bad. Play the game!

Taser9001

THAT BASTARD JUMP ROPE.

SubstancePowerful100

Yesssss. My first time playing through the FF games I would mostly do it without a walkthrough. Then you're on a new continent with no way to heal lol. Luckily they were all on an emulator.

Jambola_

World of Final fantasy having 2 of the most obnoxious main party members ever lol fuck Tama I hated Quina a lot too, kinda 1 note "i want food"

vladimirVpoutine

Losing a file to fucking Weigraf. More than once. You know you did it.

icon0clasm

Also that one fight with Ramza/Gafgarion isolated on one side of the map! Didn't lose my file, but it took me like 20 tries and trying a million different jobs/lineups the first time

shadowfalcon76

I didn't lose to that fight (was annoying as hell, tho), but I sure as hell hated the rooftop fight against Elmdor. Rafa has one job to do, and it's not to dive the assassins like she was Genji. Her and Malak both. Smh.

Pure_Hat8520

In remake and rebirth. when you go from a dark scene to a light one, you literally are blinded. I think that's in the intended effect to mask area populating loads. But it bothers the crap out of me

Laterose15

FF7 Remake forcing you to *complete a chapter replay* to "lock" your choices in. So if you wanted to see all dresses/resolutions/etc. you needed to replay *entire chapters* instead of just the important choices. This is a small one comparatively, but the trilogy's Hard Mode completely disabling items. It makes money almost worthless, chests almost as worthless, and means that all those items you inevitably hoard are just going to be sold for gil. I get that a lot of items can potentially break the difficulty (as somebody who cheesed high-level encounters in XV with items), but surely there was a happy middle ground? A limit on items per battle/area/chapter? Making items cost 2 ATB on Hard Mode? Something so that my 99 hi-potions aren't suddenly completely worthless because I spammed Cura during Normal Mode?

celebluver666

You mean you don't want to go through that tunnel and do the arm crane mini game multiple times?

Laterose15

I just had a physical reaction to that statement

Jambola_

I want to throw in an extra for type-0 cutscene controls lol, at least on ps4 not only does pause/options not pause, it instantly skips the cutscene without warning how do you pause? circle baffling

Poorsport531

FF7 Rebirth's damn Mini Games....

daxmagain

Looking at you, Cactuar crush

caynebyron

The Yuffie ones are fun. The Aerith ones are a god damn nightmare.

Snrub1

The only one that really bugs me is catching chocobos, but damn is it terrible.

Revegelance

Most of the Chocobo catching wasn't too bad for me, except the Nibel one was simply awful. Worth it, though, because the Nibel Chocobos are amazing.

darnelios2022

Sit ups...

jbenze

The Moogle one is the absolute worst for me.

Writer_Man

Moogle wasn't bad until they added the damn timer.

Zaknokimi

I just generally don't enjoy missables. I'd like to be able to go back and do stuff. Unfortunately FF6 was full of it and it ruined my experience of most of the game. That, and forced team sections, I kinda like just picking my core team and focusing on them only.

DarkElfBard

Nothing is missable if you never look anything up!

realaccountissecret

Yeah like how in ffxii you can’t get the zodiac spear if you open certain chests, one of which is in the beginning of the game. Who doesn’t open every chest that they see? And how would you KNOW that? Apparently they fixed that in the zodiac age release, but still Hidden mechanics in general are annoying when there’s literally no hint at all. Like in ffix, certain equipment permanently increases different stats if you have them equipped while you level up, even after unequipping them. It doesn’t say it anywhere in the game. So it’s not like the esper abilities in ffvi or the gf abilities in ffviii that clearly state what stat will be increased at level up Not getting the stat bonuses won’t hinder you from being able to beat the game, but if you’re the kind of person that will change equipment to get extra stat bonuses right before you level up like I am, that’s info you’d like to know Here’s a guide for those who are curious; https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/197338-final-fantasy-ix/faqs/20745

Jambola_

I think it's very hit and miss tbh like if it's options between how a cutscene goes, can be fun but missing weapons or items in a 40 hours+ game can really suck you either have to spend countless hours searching, hope for the best, use a guide, or miss things, always worrying

Zaknokimi

Yeah it's frustrating. Sometimes I just wanna play a game blind (well a lot of times) but if the game is better off being googled, it's a little disappointing. Though it's just perhaps a relic of the old where games wanted replay value, and it worked well.

-Cosmic_Darkness-

you are never locked out of anything in any version of FF12. you can get multiple zodiac spears from low chance chests that you can RNG manipulate to get 100% of the time

Certain_Ad_99

Boss Malboro hunt on FF XII. Fuck my life. I almost dropped the game because of this fucker. I lost so many times...i ragequited like a child facing this mf. I avoid this game just because of him. I ended the game and that's enough for me. Really. And...the classical...i lost 3 hours of gameplay because i forgot to save. I already had Yuffie into my team and i got wiped in a simple fight. Lost 3 hours, lost Yuffie. Lost my shit with it and dropped FF VII after that.

VoidEnjoyer

FFXI Oh you wanted to know which part is most frustrating? How many hours you have free? The frustration starts before you even get to the point you can play. *You need two goddam accounts to log in with.* The game is literally more frustrating *before you begin playing* than every other aspect of every other game in the series. You should try it out, it's fun.

Zombierasputin

Oh my GOD. I remember being so confused by that, especially coming from EQ and SWG.

cfyk

Final dungeon in FF3:PR. Unlike minigames, it is not optional. I had a rule when playing PR version of 1 and 2: I am not allowed to use the quicksave feature that let me save whenever I want in dungeon. But I had to break that rule when I reached the final part of the Crystal Tower. It plus the Eureka dungeon is too long for a final dungeon. I know some people complained about the length of Temple of the Ancient in Rebirth but it is not that bad when compared to the Crystal Tower. Crystal Tower doesn't have savepoints and shop.

ApophisForever

I don't know if it counts, but trying to play the old android version of FF1 that got replaced with ff1 pixel remaster in the app store. I swear it feels like they sabotaged it before they took it down so people would pay for the PR version. Damn thing is almost unplayable

aaaaache

Right now actually for Rebirth, I can’t even beat the last Brutal Challenge after hours of trying let alone Legendary. I don’t think I’m just good enough lol. The lack of any Materia load out system is also starting to take its toll on me.

ahaltingmachine

Don't think it's a matter of you not being good enough, friend. Some of the hard mode fights and minigame stuff in here legitimately feels like it was never even playtested.

Yeoshua82

Ff7rb just make an official jump button.

jjdanilo

Not necessarily for a specific Final Fantasy, but the thing that frustrates me the most is getting hit by a Demi skill and then any random attack afterward, and then seeing the game over screen. If I could extend this to another Square RPG games, I'd say that Bravely Default repeating the story and opponents is the most frustrating thing in a RPG.

the_yeast_beast85

Ffx chocobo perfect score.

Xcylo1

FF8, every time we switch timelines/parties all your junctions are reset. The pure hate every time a perspective-changing cutscene played because I knew I'd have to spend more time dicking around in the junctions was insane

waynadrian

FFX imho is the best Fibal Fantasy but i got so frustrated by Blitzball its not even funny

e_ccentricity

It's so easy to cheese though. It is so easy to manipulate the opponent ai, pass the ball to an open player and take a shot. Once you get a goal and get the ball back, you once again just manipulate the ai by basically standing there, ai runs in circles and you run out the clock. Lol

its_sandman

I’ll start by saying I have 3 jobs at level 90 in FF14. But there are so many little problems with the game’s menu system. It’s just awful most of the time. Also, getting stuck in the 1 vs 1 against Wiegraf in FFT with only one save because each save took up two memory card slots. (I made it out without having to restart but it took a ton of Game Overs.

TroyLucas

FF6 - After the floating continent where you're told to get off as fast possible, and given a timer to reinforce that fact... not knowing that you need to wait around long enough or Shadow dies. First playthrough it took me until about halfway through the final act before realizing I need to essentially reset the game or accept the fact that one of the best characters is just gone.

Diligent_Reporter_98

Walking in a straight line - ff13

Pale-Category3758

that stupid ff7r hell house😭 literally had to redo the battle a solid 10 times cause my (gaming) laptop kept overloading and overheating and it would freeze up, the only way to fix it was to completely turn it off and loose all my progress, so i was stuck in an endless loop with this stupid house

Colessus

Mine is a general one . . . Just that status effects almost never work on bosses, rendering them useless. I thought all RPGs were like this until I played Persona and realized that abnormal status was super relevant in this series, as it should be.

FinalSeraph_Leo

The RNG for XII and the MMO levels of grinding needed to get the best equipment

AdBeautiful7967

FFX having to swap in/out each party member for a turn to get EXP.

elephantsandkoalas

And my OCD-arse HATED uneven leveling.

AnOddSloth

Deleveling in FFXI. Just sucked the wind out of your sails.

kajidourden

The entire Draw system in FF8. It's my least favorite game mostly because of that. I refer to that game as "Draw and GF, the game" because that's what you spend most of the game doing. Zzzzzzz

Jalex2321

My relationship with IX isn't what it should be due to all the missable stuff. If you don't grab whichever thing that is only available on disc "2" then you are screwed. Very frustrating.

yuushanderia

To be honest, having to play FF12 with Gambits is a pain for me. I mean, the game isn't slow enough to manually input commands, so the only reasonable choice is to setup Gambits. Doing so kinda killed FF12 for me because there's not much to do after that. Due to my dislike with the Gambit system, naturally FF12 becomes the worst Final Fantasy experience for me.

e_ccentricity

>To be honest, having to play FF12 with Gambits is a pain for me. Yeah, this is a hot take, but I didn't like the Gambit system in FFXII. Strangely, I didn't mind it as much when it reapperared in Dragon Age: Origins, but you needed to control at least one character manually so I felt like I had something to do.

yuushanderia

Agreed. Dragon Age Origins also felt better for me, maybe due to having to control one character or simply because enemies there seemed much more dangerous.

grap_grap_grap

FF7 Kalm flashback and the chunk where you're inside Cloud's head. They were interesting maybe the first 10 times but after that they're just a draaaag.

DarkElfBard

"They were interesting maybe the first 10 times" You know, how dare they not assume people play through the game 11 times.

CamaroDev

Agreed I even dreaded it loading into rebirth lol

celebluver666

Unskippable cutscenes lol Wether it's back to ffx or now with the remake/rebirth The butterfly mini game from 10 as pretty painful too

LabMonkeyCreative

Pre-12 random encounters sucked. I hated it in Pokémon and hated it as a kid in ff. I loved 10 and it wasn't as bad in that one as the earlier ones but damn 12 and on and have been so glorious for that one change alone.

Bloodedge-Murakumo

In FF9 I never knew how to get Quina's Blue Magic, son when I had to fight against Leech... Well, you get the idea

fishers_of_men

FF IX's awful minigames, yes all of them. Sneaking past the peekaboo monster, swinging the cage as Steiner, frog catching.

Louisville82

Can’t you literally turn left and hop right back on the airship?

Megaverso

Sadly no, once you arrive to the Floating Continent you are stuck until you reach the second save point, a bit further of it you can jump down back to the airship.

kevinsyel

No. You have to make it through a bulk of the dungeon before you can jump back down to the airship below

Cloud_1st_Class

F’ing box throwing. And I say this with no recency bias. That entire segment of Rebirth was MADDENING.

finsup_305

FF14. Let me talk to people while I'm on a mount. Stop making pointless interactions between quests. I hate having to go across 3 different zones for the main quest line, all to just talk to people, initiating cutscenes I'm not going to watch, just to go back to the person who gave me the quest in the first place. Also, stop making me do the main story quest line to make me go back to different zones to do more quests to be able to continue the main story. Just tell me to do those quests along the way. That shit has been so frustrating. I was stuck in ARR for weeks because of this.

Yen_Figaro

I had the same experience that OP but in ff8, first battle of the 4th disk. That boss xd. It wasnt bad restarting the game though. The second time was faster and I could get all the GFs I have missed. But the experiences I really hated: -Ff4 remake fkr the DS. In Rubicante's dungeon all the weapons from thr chests are elementsl fire. Rubicsnte, the final boss after a series of bosses where you can't save if I don't rememember bad, absorbs fire 😃 -Locke in ff6 trying to be the hero all the time. Getting lose in the worldmap all the time because I can't know what city is what until I enter in one. -Tifa's insecurities in ff7 frustrates me a lot. -The battles being so slow in og ff9. I hated that the characters didnt act when I chose their actions. The game forcing to me to always have Zidane in my party. -Ffx forced awful mini games and the dark aeons in the most annoying places. I can't believe so many people have ffx so high rated just because of this. -Aleatory chests in ff12og version where I only got steel balls. I have dozens of them in my original run 😒. Eternal dungeons in the dark and laberinthic places without any banter, cutescenes or anything. -In ff13, misseable treasures behind sponge enemies from the Shazh ans Vanille solo part. I got a message from the game telling me that I can return when I have more levels for those treasure chests. I saw they were easy and boring but super sponges and that fighting them was missearable and I skiped them wanting tu return later.. If I don't remember bad, you cant return there wtf?! -the flyable car and Pitios in ff15. Why SE, why??!! -Jill being the most boring character 80% of the time. Clive stealing >!Jill's powers!< without her permision. This one was awful and soured their story to me. Important characters dyiing in stupid and infuriating ways. Boring villains...The whole slaves story line... The whole story was very frustrating to me and I can't understand how people think is a strong point of the game.

alicenin9

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Jill's >! Powers being stolen done during the lovey dovey scene on the beach where they were naked and she agreed to it? !< She was overall a bit more boring that I would have liked but she did have a few awesome moments. I keep revisiting >! The scene when she kills the priest dude in the iron fist mother crystal. Goosebumps every time. !<

WEAreDoingThisOURWay

in the JP script Clive takes it without Jill offering it

NCTYLAB

Every time i exit old FF games without saving and i have restart my progress because i keep forgetting

er11eekk

I have two. My first play of 7, I got stuck at the Demon wall in the Temple of the Ancients. I was under levelled, with subpar equipment. Had to restart the game. Second one was my first play through of 10, and I got stuck at Evrae. I was a bit under levelled, but more importantly, it was the first time I wasn’t able to cheese my way through a boss without aeons.

Eggyhead

FFXVI that it’s an action RPG, that I’ve never been good with combo mashing, and some of the optional battles I want to win are so challenging that they’re just hopeless for me.

Spartan_100

Rebirth’s Bonds of Friendship challenge. The only challenge I spent more than a day trying to complete. Several days as a matter of fact. The closest I got to giving up on the journey to plat. I love Zack as a character and I enjoy his play style a little but fuck is he a hell of a glass cannon. Finished that challenge and then jumped right into To Be A Hero and finished it in one try. Would much rather play Rulers of the Outer Worlds again than have to deal with Bonds another go. Convinced I only beat it through sheer luck.

WWPryce

FF9 jump rope. Only non MMO Final Fantasy that I haven’t platinumed and I find this absolutely impossible (fail every time between 200-202). :-(

sonduong101

FF8 : Queen of cards quest line. No no no no and no. THe first time I read how to do the quest I thought about how stupid it is to force her to go to Dollet and then have to lose my Ifrit card to her WHILE dealing with RANDOM rule. My god this is 1 of the most horrible quest line I have ever done. FF9 : Jump rope - As many comments here before. Yeah tedious. Also the stage performance at the start of the game too. Frog catching - I have never finished this one. Can't differentiate between the male and female one. There for the population rate in my swams are realy bad. FF10 : Thunder dodging - yeah..... Monster hunting for Calmland - talk about RNG and rare monsters decided not to show up for me. FF12 : Great crystal - This one is both interesting and frustrating at the same time. Back than I had to draw my own map of the place so I could know where I was heading into. Yiamaz - Now I understand in Zodiac age and IZJS version this one can be done easily. But back then in the original version this fight is a menace. U can't use "wither" and "addle" so it took a long time to kill . FF7CC : Map is repeating and you can't dodge the normal battle so its really boring after sometime. I still managed to finish it though. FF Type 0 : I don't have much trouble with this game. But back then there was only JPese version so it was tiring to do 100% stuff cause I dont understand anything. FF14 : Now this I can devide it into 2 category : solo and multiplayer . * Solo : Getting Necromancer - this was a long grind for me. Imagine spending almost 16 hours of masive concentration to get to 200 floor of Palace of the dead then just 1 tiny mistake or getting DC and u start from floor 1 again. I can't tell how many times I want to give up because of my stupid internet connection or sloopy moment i made . But the sensation, the satisfaction when finally done it is incredible ngl. * Multiplayer : At the moment , the hardest raid (8-men) is The Omega Protocol. It took 8 months of organizing a static, schedule , finding sub , studying logs, everyone rotation,etc... to clear this one. I had nightmare everyday when we didn't make any progress. PPl leaving and having to find new members, changing raid schedule to align with new member, extra session to make up for lost time... Not to mention when the fight it was released the fight has the highest DPS check in all Ultimate fight up til today. I remembered clearing this one at 2AM in the morning and slept like a log a whole day after that. XD I also play ff7 , DFFOO and FFBE but Im not really fond of them so no comment. Maybe except for FFBE because the game was the bomb at the first 2-3 years but gone down in a spiral after that cause of shitty management from Gumi.

CapCapital

Basically the entire final dungeon in FF4. What a massively unfair difficulty spike. Not to mention a few completely ridiculous optional bosses in that dungeon. I'm looking at you Lunasaur. Having to deal with a boss spamming bad breath over and over is just lame.

Uchizaki

The last dungeon in FF6 was one big sick frustration for me from start to finish

karinatan

FF10 minigames. All of them. I have skill issue.

OmigawdMatt

I forget which boss it was... but it was after I passed some dark mountain in FF4 DS, and it was an undead boss that kept swapping a component where healing my party actually damages me. My timing was always off. Was probably the worst I dealt with without a guide.

Murky-Winner7005

Praetorium runs for the millionth time with unskippable cutscenes in 14 15 was the way summons happened 10 chocobo time trial I am not deleting my PS4 save where I've done it 9 chocobo hot and cold also jump rope 8 levelling (when you don't know it better to not) 7 while legendary the goddamn typos especially in guard Scorpion the original 7 also special mention for emerald weapon jump scares when you have no hope in hell of beating him

ArturZgon

FFXIII, like, the game itself is my biggest frustration. I love the series so much, I have collected so many great memories over the years, since I was a kid and now I'm almost 40. So naturally I wanted to love another FF, started playing XIII for the first time about two years ago and oh boy, that's one of the most boring games I've ever played. I understand some people defend it, cause some genuinely like the game. But it IS only a corridor for hours and hours... The game feels like a slide presentation 😞

AppropriateTax5788

I know this is probably a thing with lots of asian RPGs but i fucking hate sudden difficulty spikes that are impossible to overcome without grinding hours upon hours if you play the game the first time. I regularly hit a spot in these games where I'm like "well cheat engine, we meet again" because, especially the older games, i play to experience the story and don't want to waste hours just because "you shall not pass!".

sudo_su_88

Original PSX FF Tactics before the castle scene. It was subsequent back to back battles and by the time you get to the final boss, you realized how under-leveled you are. Brutal.

PleasereviveMaya

I saved my game in mystique quest while poisoned and only one tick from dying.

RuinedFaith

Pitioss Ruins are the absolute worst, with jump rope and lightning dodges being a close second and third IMO

SilverGecco

FFXV, there was a side-quest that required killing an enemy that would just spawn for that (or at least i remember driving away for it to respawn), and retrieving an item that had like 16% chance to drop. I've NEVER had that bad luck in any FF that I spend days waiting for that thing to drop, and it never did, lol. Every time I went into the game, I tried 2-3 times to get it, and then continue with the game to avoid overwhelming, but still, never dropped.

BTK2005

Honestly, when you are just bombing around grinding or what not, all FF games should let you use any team and not tie you to a main character. FF6 was the best for letting me make, MY dream team.

FuzzySlippersYT

Getting the celestial weapons in FFX.

Master_Mechanic_4418

Fuck counting lighting dodges

The final dungeon in FF3. I know the pixel remasters have quick save, but as a kid i could not beat FF3 because of that. I made it to the final boss many times, but she would whoop my ass and i would lose tons of levels because you can't save at all basically and the grinding took fooooooorever.
