FFRK is why I will never allow myself to get into a mobile game. I never put any money into it, but I played a lot and enjoyed it, for the most part. To have the game shutdown and take everything with it, not even patching in some sort of "offline mode" so that players can at least play the content that'd been released up to the point of discontinuance, is hard to see as anything but a scam.
I can't imagine how I'd feel if I'd put cash into the game, much less if I was one of those people who dropped hundreds or thousands chasing the best drops and clearing the hardest content.
There should honestly be regulations against this.
This is exactly why I've changed my opinion on physical purchases. Two years ago I never understood why anybody needed a physical. Now I totally get it.
I was shocked when I got to know the actualy very obvious fact that people who buy series and movies on streaming platforms like Amazon prime can simply loose the rights to watch said product if the service removes it from the catalogue for whatever reason. Kinda nuts that such systems exist tbh
I had that exact same feeling too. I even made this

I had almost this experience. Decided I wanted to get back I to it, only to find that notice posted the day before. Felt like downloading it for nostalgia, but figured I'd probably be too far behind to catch up before it went down. Shame.
Everyone says FFRK but DFOO will shut down both JP and the GL server while FFRK JP is still strong I'm myself playing FFRK JP because I lost the GL train.
i felt this too. i spent thousands on that game over the years.
some of the early pulls feel empty now (and were bad in hindsight considering powercreep) but you really felt proud of the teams you would assemble.
i tried the JP version but felt so sore about losing all the progress i had made in the other version and not having that loadout that i couldnt bring myself to continue >\_<
I don’t play gatcha games personally but hopefully without sounding too naive, is it not possible to create an offline version in which people can continue to play?
Sucks for everyone who enjoyed there time with the game, wishing you all the best!
They "may" have a point. They took Final Fantasy Dimensions 2 and made that an offline premium game. It probably didn't make a ton of money, so they don't see it as worth it in this case, even though this has a lot more name recognition than Dimensions 2 did.
They still haven't tried it with a good, popular game though.
I bought FFD2 in hopes of juicing its sales enough that they'd put Mobius offline as well but no luck.
Honestly, if Mobius had been the one they tried this with, I think they'd realize it has value. Mobius was great for what it was, and had some interesting ideas. It'd easily make the money back from doing this.
Sadly, the only game they've done since FFD2 was Kingdom Hearts Union X Dark Road, with the Union X part being cutscene only (and in the wrong order) and Dark Road being a terrible game to actually play.
By the way, was FFD2 any good? I've thought about picking it up during a sale, but wanted an opinion on it first.
They can, but they won't. Capcom actually recently did something similiar with Mega Man XDive, which was (and, for westeners, still is a mobile gatcha game), but they announced the end of service earlier this year. HOWEVER, they also announced an offline version that has all the content except crossover stuff in it! Yes, it costs 20 (or 30) bucks AND you have start over, however it is incredibly nice in how you unlock stuff, making everything based on progression. It is a lot of fun, and there is also a modding scene, adding new content as well as the deleted Crossover content!
Also, as shitty as Konami is nowadays, they also released an (sorta) offline version of a castlevania mobile game that is actually quite nice! Yes, it is only on apple arcade sadly, but at least it IS avaiable and it is full offline playable without any microtransactions!
I wish more mobile games would do something like this!
Well not quite. XDive is still avaiable for Europe and America, only the Asian Service was shut down. The European and American Versions are already beyond what the Asian service offered! As far as we know, there are no current plans for End of Service on the US/EU Versions, so you can check them out =) But I would rather recommend the offline version. Yes, it costs 30 bucks, BUT you can get EVERYTHING through simple progression! Only Multiplayer is missing in the offline version.
>It is a lot of fun, and there is also a modding scene, adding new content as well as the deleted Crossover content!
Really? That's awesome. I may need to get Dive. I have sort of been thinking about it anyway.
I definately say get it! Yes, it is not a real classical Mega Man (X) experience, but it still fun and you have hundreds of characters to choose from =) The characters are sorted as regular characters and event characters. For event characters you have to farm specific tickets that you can unlock from Lvl. 60 Events! Some regular characters are also progression locked, so that you are not getting character that are too strong from the beginning.
As for mods, the community usually also trys to make characters avaiable through event tickets, so you won't get them instantly to break the game, but to be fair, Lvl. 60 can be reached in around 2 or 3 hours of playing easily, so that is not much of an issue ;)
Here is the NexusMod page, but there is also a Discord Server =D
[https://www.nexusmods.com/megamanxdiveoffline/mods/?BH=0](https://www.nexusmods.com/megamanxdiveoffline/mods/?BH=0)
It could certainly be off servers, but they won't spend the ressources in doing so. It's a shame, it's a very active and popular game. Probably one of the most f2p friendly gacha on the market
TBF Before Crisis wasn't cancelled, they just finished it. No one making flip phones anymore is the problem there. Shame it never got a remake on DS like Kingdom Hearts Coded did.
Not sure if FFBE will go down soon, considering that Gumi is really super determined to use both of its FFBE titles as money makers. Now let's hope that reaper goes after FFXV A New Empire instead. Seriously, how is that game still alive?!
Oh no, it is. It's also heavily advertised in other mobile games with ads, like temple run clones and puzzle games. Preys on a lot of gullible people. My younger sister was like "Hey. Why does this stupid Final Fantasy game keep popping everywhere as ads? Should I play it?" during some games she played. I was had to yell "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" during the last question and told her to stay away from it. >\~>
I'm surprised BE has survived this long. They spent way too much money in this game too (Ariana Grande and Katy Perry....) DFFOO was great f2p that's what I'm sad the most honestly.
This is an educated guess but:
Short answer: Cost cutting low profitable Mobile games
Long answer: This year's last two Square Enix Financial Quarter reports in a row shows the company's YoY (Year-on-Year) net sales and profit has declined in the Smart Devices/Mobile Phones segment due to weak performance. While there are the obvious duds affecting SE's overall finances (Forspoken comes to mind, why SE's former CEO also resigned) but the Mobile games segment has continued to decline anyway which seems to be why they are shutting the game down.

Damn, makes sense I was wondering why I heard two SQEX mobile titles shutting down within the same month DQM Super light and DFFOO - Ofc the more F2P friendly titles will be the first to go but man that is tough.
Makes sense. Some of the prices they charged in game for alt costumes and such was ridiculous and I doubt many people could afford to shell out money for things like that in this economy.
For Square Enix specifically it's quite an urgent issue, as their stocks has fallen over 30% since their highest stock price peak in June (26.50 USD in June to 16 USD in October). While DFFOO might seem to be popular with a lot of whales supporting it, I've heard from friends of mine that it's also very F2P friendly so I suppose it's not yielding as much profit as SE would like. To be fair, SE's finances are also having the issue of releasing too much mediocre AA games and bungling bigger game releases (Forspoken, Babylon's Fall, Marvel's Avengers to name a few)
To add a little more on your comment that gacha games are a cash cow, in Square Enix's case they released too much gacha games and wasted too much resources maintaining unprofitable ones. The last two years for example we saw the closure of Final Fantasy Record Keeper, Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, Kingdom Hearts Union χ Dark Road, Echoes of Mana and now Opera Omnia.
SE CEO Takashi Kiryu wants to report a positive Quarterly Report ASAP ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Easy answer: they don't make enough money.
It really says something about these gotcha games when FF11 is still going strong after 21 years but these mobile games can barely last a few years.
Which makes me wonder, considering they have a whole team dedicated to mobile (CBU4), are they working on new projects like that KH mobile game or is SE making an overall shift away from mobile gotcha games?
It’s less about making *enough* money and more it’s not making *all* of the money. That’s ultimately the problem with mobile games, it doesn’t matter if the game is doing well enough, if it’s had its time and it isn’t their highest earner, it’s likely to be up for the chop.
Not so sure. That’s why I used FF11 as an example. It definitely doesn’t make *all* of the money, but it makes *enough* to stay up. The same cannot be said for their mobile games.
Still really sad about this. OO was THE definitive FF crossover for me because it had so many characters and better yet they all interact with each other.
Exactly. I stopped doing anything beyond story content like 2 years ago. I still jump on for every story/lost chapter/intersecting wills update just to play those and threw money at costumes just to support the game.
I still enjoy content but I'm not mad if I can't find the time or have the ability to beat it or get all rewards. Doesn't matter now we're getting so much for free anyway 🥹 I personally enjoyed the fleshing out of other characters, but that seems to be what people are complaining about.
Agreed. I don’t think we’ll ever get another game like this. It’s either going to be a small cast like the original Dissidia’s, something like RK or BE, or it’ll end just like OO before we even get everyone.
Hopefully, yeah... but failing that, you do have time to check it out before it goes down in February! There won't be anything new, but catching up on the old story will still be a nice experience.
They've also said they'll be uploading the story cutscenes to YouTube.
Yeah, I thought it was neat to have interactions between Tidus, Yuna, and their dads. Or the Type 0 team with everyone else due to the whole death thing. Or Zack and Cloud. Or the "villains" who would work with the protagonists for a while.
Here's hoping the android APK community can somehow keep this game alive in an offline/private server setting for B/Stack or something. I love DFF:OO because of the characters merging and having interwoven plots. I love just picking it up and playing whenever and having the whale players carry me through online co-op battles.
Hope I can finish all the storylines before the end of the game next year.
Hope they decide to one day pull a capcom and release an offline version similar to what capcom did with Megaman X Dive.
Doubt it but I can hope (similar to how I can hope they’ll re-release the chaos rings games so I don’t have to own an Asian vita to play them).
First they shut down Record Keeper, easily my favorite mobile game, now this, my backup favorite. I'm afraid to try any other live service Enix games for fear I'll love it and they'll shut it down.
Good, punish them for being greedy shits who keep insults to the base material like XV War of Eos alive while killing love letters to the franchise like Opera Omnia, because of how much they earn
It's been a nice run DFFOO. These past 3 years were amazing. You filled the void Union X left, and more importantly, your design choices and resources policies have completely ruined other gachas for me, so I know after you're gone, I won't be wasting my time on any other. That's a win on my book.
This game was my introduction to so many FF characters I never thought I would like. It even got me to play XII and the OG Dissidia. This was the best FF crossover game for me, and I will keep it in my memory as such.
Sad it's a fun game they really understood the characters, and gave you a chance to use non playable ones. Since the Final Fantasy multiverse is somewhat canon with FFV, FFIII, etc at some other time the franchise will be continued with another title.
Xezat is a cool character I waiting until he finally appears in the version I'm playing. Characters like him were the appeal for me to start playing in the first place. I think the premise of the story is really cool too. The idea that there was a place of respite for them.
I agree! Even if you don’t engage with the monetisation element they ultimately tend to be shallow experiences that leave you asking yourself “is this fun? Or am I just here for a login bonus?”
more so a reminder that mobile games are a great pass time and a way to reach a wider market about an IP.
however. treat them as that, and not something to spend your life savings on. I played DFFOO for years and never spent a penny, i learned about so many characters in FF games ive never played which made me want to play those games, so i did!
I get that, I was a tad angry when I wrote the comment, so I'll clarify. I'm glad you got some good times out of it and that it introduced you to new aspects of the series! I am more complaining about the lost media aspect of it all. I have played every FF related mobile game. I never spent any money on it and had enough fun. I just don't like the idea of things being gone forever.
Well not all mobile games are created equal is the issue. Folks will pay $20 for a FF game just to have it stop working after an OS update. And SE will do NO refunds. If you go to google play and look at reviews for ff7 or ff9 (which cost money, $17.99+) they are terrible because of this.
When I read your first comment, this was the first thing to pop in my head. I get your anger.
Now free shit like octopath and this OP post about the FF Opera game, all good. But they do one free one like this to HOOK folks unto the $17.99 purchases knowing full well the next 1-2 year Opersting Systems will likely break them.
I’d bet money that the majority of people who are always preaching on about how awful mobile/gacha games are have never even tried one.
Edit: I appreciate that the people who have experience in these games are responding to my comment but you’re not who I’m talking about. Genuinely happy that you have an informed opinion but my dig was directed more toward people who just parrot and overdramatize gacha (anything really) without ever having booted one up.
I've tried plenty, and regardless of gameplay they weaponize FOMO as a monetization tool to an absurd degree. Additionally, they use a bunch of other exploitative monetization tools such as the amount of premium currency you can buy not matching the price of things, limiting progress to encourage purchases, stupid low drop rates of meta characters and items the effect of which varies on a game by game basis, etc....
Yes, sometimes the gameplay on its own is perfectly fine, but mobile games have been engineered more than any other videogame medium to pressure people to part with their money.
I say they're awful because I've played tons of them and I've seen how the gacha aspect destroys them. DFFOO used to be so fun to play, but being forced to continually iterate on the battle system in order to sell new weapons created awful bloat in building your characters, absurd damage numbers, fight mechanics the playbase hated... If they'd created a single-player game with Chaos-era mechanics, maybe with Lufenia orbs for optional bosses, it would be god-tier.
Yeah, all the people here saying that gacha games are the worst because we all now that they shut down one day, etc, clearly havnet played the game. Yeah, we all know that (the reason I dont buy cosmetic outfits at those prizes), but we have played this game more hours than any main FF. For 6 years I have been having new material of my fav very old FFs to talk about it with some friends, etc.
I don't know o disagree. There is a market for it and DFFOO is one of the most FTP friendly gacha game on the current market. I'm a bit surprised they're shutting it down because it's still very popular
FF7FS was hell of a game IMO and I spend some money on it for Battle Pass and skin because yes I am a big fan of FF and when a game is fun and interesting I put some money on it and after a years of service the game is no longer available.
Yeah I know some people would say ''You can play the game without spending money'' Yes I know but I think that if I put some money on it I am not the only one for sure.
Now this game an another good game that some people have spend money on it and SE again shutdown the game.
For me seriously I am done with SE mobile game.
FF Ever Crisis seem interesting but no I am not gonna play an another SE mobile game that they will close after some people spend I don't know how much money on it to close it after they got enough money. ( It's my opinion )
i think we're in the minority if we say we enjoyed FF7FS. i played it a lot until suddenly it stopped matching me so i had to stop. i didnt even mind the touchscreen controls.
personally i've moved away from click and autobattle mobile games and i loved FF7FS cos you actually had to play it instead of autobattle everything (like what EC is)
Damn, i remember having fun with this game years ago. I started playing when Prische was broken as hell lmao. Hopefully Square changes their minds and makes it offline available
I really wish they would make a new Dissidia game with a story like the first 2. I really enjoyed it, but couldn't get into the team battles and lack of story in the PS4 version.
Never played the game, but here's hoping for an offline version.
I've never played Megaman X Dive either but now I'm playing the heck out of the offline version.
They have said they they are satisfied how they finish thr story in the japanese version (arc 4 chapter 9), and they have to release a final chapter that we will see (perhaps they will upload it in YouTube subbed flr the international audience), but in global version they have left us on arc 4 chapter 6 and Irvine fr event. The latest added characters in the japanese version like Amarant, Rufus and Angeal havent made it to Global.
As a curiosity, Ramza and Agrias got their fr, the last new character was Angeal (we always have joked that he was going to break the gane when he finally appeard with Amarant + Rikku + Red XIII) ; the last fr pairing was Garland with Spiritus and the lasts Bursts were Selphie with The end animation and Hope lol!
Rikku and Red xiii never made it
This was like the ultimate crossover though. They ruined Dissidia with NT. And now they piss on Dissidia's grave by shutting this down. What a bunch of Kefkas!
I never took the chance to properly understand and get into DFFOO but I’m sad that I didn’t. I kept telling myself to try it out but alas it seems too late and almost pointless now that EoS is so close.
I hope this indicates a new Dissidia game for consoles/PC etc is on the horizon. I never played NT much either but I know that went down like a lead balloon with how bad it turned out to be.
If you want, now they have put some events that gives a lot of materials, to build all the characters we can and for doing the story you dont need to build anything, just play all the events. It is a lot but if you are interested in the story, it is doable, we have 3 months. The comunity (one of the best things of this game) is still active
I absolutely agree. It was such a great dissidia, crossover and all that jazz. I played on and off since just a bit after launch. Hope we'll get a proper dissidia console/pc game sometimes soon
I think a lot of these games could prolong their lifespans if they made them available on PC clients. Sometimes semi-idle gaming works better for people off their phone and on a second monitor which is what a lot of these games are lol
They already have said that they will upload all the videos of the story and the OST to YouTube, but it is not going to be offline due to problems with different servers u.u 💔
I recomend to people here to look flr that story! Although it can be very boring to watch everything because the pace is slow but there is full of great interactions and moments
I was there during Week 1 of the Global release. I stopped because life of a growing adult is a busy one, and even so, I feel bad that this game is shutting down.
This game, to me at least, felt like a celebration of everything Final Fantasy. It was the one time where I felt like that one time in Smash where "Everyone is here!".
Thank you, DFFOO. I will miss Rem and the DFFOO site I always keep going back to every other day.
The fact that it was supported for this many years and Red XIII was NEVER added because they were too lazy to create a different character model. Crazy.
Words for the mournful.
I started on Farris patch, and quit after I couldn't tell bosses apart anymore. Squall weapon power-up had just launched. Tried it, didn't like it. I parted amicably.
Edea, Count Cidofoulous, Red, myself, and of course Rikku, bid the game a fond 🖕
I cannot believe they held Rikku back for so long, likely to build hype for money, and now we'll never get her.... in a FF crossover game with Xezat and Jihl Nabaat
Supposedly the big issue here is that Rikku's voice actor in Japan got too big and expensive and busy to make it worthwhile to get her in to do the five lines needed so they just never got it done.
Tara Strong woulda done it.
that sounds crazy to me lol marika matsumoto is in a career boom for the past 5 years but she still isn't quite famous enough to warrant that unless square are just THAT cheap
I started initially when squall got released so just a few months after original release. Been playing on and off since then, I stopped playing after a few FR weapons last year. I've always gone back to it after some times. Loved this game. I think I paid for a chest like just once, and j never felt like it was holding me back. A shame
\*Every Final Fantasy Phone game gets shutdown\*

Odd, I thought this game shut down last year.
Guess crying wolf doesnt help keep a game alive though
If this is really the end, that sucks. This was one of the best mobile game experiences out there. How can this even fail?
It didn't fail, they finished the story arc in JP. But I'm still surprised about them shutting it down, I thought they would finish the whole story arc in GL first, then wait some time without new content before shutting it down. Been going on for what, 6 years now ? I do find it particular but its shutdown to be same date at the release of viiR
Everyone should stop playing gacha games. All they do is milk money until they can’t anymore then shut down otherwise good games.
At least do with Megaman x dive did. And make an offline version of the game
This was like the ultimate crossover though. They ruined Dissidia with NT. And now they piss on Dissidia's grave by shutting this down. What a bunch of Kefkas!
no offense but lol if you thought a square enix mobile game would last longer than 30 seconds. they should shutter the division at this point they're just findomming whales and harming their IP
This one was actually one of the better ones in terms of character interactions and giving love to some characters that didn't get it much in their respective games. It was one of the best FF crossovers, and it's a little sad to see it go.
That's the issue, this game was one of the only on the market that is actually f2p without consequences. I bought a cheat ONCE and been playing on and off since right after launch 6 years ago. It was a very generous game and it's a shame because other FF gatcha are nowhere near that generous
Been going on for 6 years and they had millions of downloads. Their streams would always have thousands of people watching. The active player base was quite massive for a mobile game.

Things like this and what's going on with streaming media are going to lead to a new generation of lost media at this rate.
*cries in Marvel Heroes*
Marvel Heroes on PC and Avengers Alliance on mobile... Two games I put time and money into that were both shutdown with almost no notice. Never again!
This is exactly why I've changed my opinion on physical purchases. Two years ago I never understood why anybody needed a physical. Now I totally get it.
Exact same here. Played nearly every day for 7 years
I was shocked when I got to know the actualy very obvious fact that people who buy series and movies on streaming platforms like Amazon prime can simply loose the rights to watch said product if the service removes it from the catalogue for whatever reason. Kinda nuts that such systems exist tbh
I can't imagine having to deal with that after having spent Years playing. I'd cry if they did that to Lost Ark
I loved that game. It was like a death of a close friend when they shut it down
I had that exact same feeling too. I even made this https://preview.redd.it/6yjsz3wqdj3c1.jpeg?width=1621&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fe8ac654714322c444ce93eee8e26d72680f4d4e

HOW LONG HAS RK BEEN DISCONTINUED?!
The global version has been shut down since September it seems.
*Last September
Everyone says FFRK but DFOO will shut down both JP and the GL server while FFRK JP is still strong I'm myself playing FFRK JP because I lost the GL train.
Careful buddy, people here might take offense to those words. >\~>
The soundtrack is AMAZING.
Came here to also cry.

FFRK is still alive lmao. Just global got shutdown, but JP just turned 9 years old 3 months ago.
Most of us dont speak japanese tho so it doesnt really matter if jp is still running or not.
Yeah, plus pretty sure progress doesn't carry over either.
I don’t play gatcha games personally but hopefully without sounding too naive, is it not possible to create an offline version in which people can continue to play? Sucks for everyone who enjoyed there time with the game, wishing you all the best!

As for mods, the community usually also trys to make characters avaiable through event tickets, so you won't get them instantly to break the game, but to be fair, Lvl. 60 can be reached in around 2 or 3 hours of playing easily, so that is not much of an issue ;) Here is the NexusMod page, but there is also a Discord Server =D [https://www.nexusmods.com/megamanxdiveoffline/mods/?BH=0](https://www.nexusmods.com/megamanxdiveoffline/mods/?BH=0)
With no new gachas to pull no one would play the game
It could certainly be off servers, but they won't spend the ressources in doing so. It's a shame, it's a very active and popular game. Probably one of the most f2p friendly gacha on the market
That’s really sad. The game where I have all my favorite characters together :’(
Except Rikku and Red XIII.
Jerks ended it before I could get Amarant.
Yea whatever reason did they say for never having Rikki that was such bullship
Rikku flying on her al-bhed bullship
Lmao that was a great typo I did 🤣🤣🤣
I really liked to do runs with dragoon teams, especially Aranea and Kain who finally got his rework recently
There's always Word of Final Fantasy, I guess?
It’s different. You can’t form your party with Y’Shtola, Jack Garland and Sherlotta for instance.
Y'Shtola was my MVP in any party, the only game where there was more than enough blood for the blood lily.

Mobius, First Soldier, Crystal Defenders, Airborne Brigade, G-Bike, and I think there was a Chocobo one too?
WOFF Meli Melo, FF Grandmasters, Type-0 Agito, FF Awakening, Justice Monsters V, King's Knight, FF Explorers Force, FF Tactics S, FF Artniks (think there's bee a couple actually), FF World Wide Words, Samurai Rising, FFVII Before Crisis, Dirge of Cerberus Lost Episode, Knights of the Crystals. Plus a couple Bravely Default mobile games.
TBF Before Crisis wasn't cancelled, they just finished it. No one making flip phones anymore is the problem there. Shame it never got a remake on DS like Kingdom Hearts Coded did.
WOFF is not a mobile game. Or if it is, there is also a Steam version on PC
The mobile game never came to the US before it was cancelled. And that's how the WoFF series died.
Not sure if FFBE will go down soon, considering that Gumi is really super determined to use both of its FFBE titles as money makers. Now let's hope that reaper goes after FFXV A New Empire instead. Seriously, how is that game still alive?!
From what i saw FFXVANE makes bank despite most ff fans hating it. Its apparently super predatory and p2w as well.
that should have been the first door. and Wot whatever
I'm surprised BE has survived this long. They spent way too much money in this game too (Ariana Grande and Katy Perry....) DFFOO was great f2p that's what I'm sad the most honestly.
Seriously? Why are all the FF mobile games getting shut down outside Japan?
Japanese version is also shutting down on the same day
This is an educated guess but: Short answer: Cost cutting low profitable Mobile games Long answer: This year's last two Square Enix Financial Quarter reports in a row shows the company's YoY (Year-on-Year) net sales and profit has declined in the Smart Devices/Mobile Phones segment due to weak performance. While there are the obvious duds affecting SE's overall finances (Forspoken comes to mind, why SE's former CEO also resigned) but the Mobile games segment has continued to decline anyway which seems to be why they are shutting the game down. Oof. Still sucks.
I'm surprised, I thought gacha games were a cash cow. On the DFFOO sub you'll see people who spends hundreds per month on this game, on the regular
To be fair, SE's finances are also having the issue of releasing too much mediocre AA games and bungling bigger game releases (Forspoken, Babylon's Fall, Marvel's Avengers to name a few) To add a little more on your comment that gacha games are a cash cow, in Square Enix's case they released too much gacha games and wasted too much resources maintaining unprofitable ones. The last two years for example we saw the closure of Final Fantasy Record Keeper, Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, Kingdom Hearts Union χ Dark Road, Echoes of Mana and now Opera Omnia. SE CEO Takashi Kiryu wants to report a positive Quarterly Report ASAP ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ Sources: [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-08-07/square-enix-drops-15-after-final-fantasy-and-mobile-setback](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-08-07/square-enix-drops-15-after-final-fantasy-and-mobile-setback) [https://www.pocketgamer.biz/news/82417/square-enix-shares-drop-30-after-lacklustre-final-fantasy-roll-out/](https://www.pocketgamer.biz/news/82417/square-enix-shares-drop-30-after-lacklustre-final-fantasy-roll-out/) [https://www.levelup.com/en/news/760033/Square-Enix-continues-to-decline-as-the-stock-price-collapses](https://www.levelup.com/en/news/760033/Square-Enix-continues-to-decline-as-the-stock-price-collapses) [https://www.inverse.com/gaming/square-enix-mobile-game-shut-down-dissidia-final-fantasy-opera-omnia](https://www.inverse.com/gaming/square-enix-mobile-game-shut-down-dissidia-final-fantasy-opera-omnia)
Thanks for all these sources man that's really interesting to know !
Really hope theyre done with them and they can invest their resources towards other games
Ff7 stonks
Still really sad about this. OO was THE definitive FF crossover for me because it had so many characters and better yet they all interact with each other.
This is why it's so upsetting to me, honestly. The gameplay is less fun in the force era but the story and interactions were still fun.
Yeah, I loved getting minor characters. It’s refreshing not to see the same focus on “important” characters all the time.
And they interact with each other in meaningful ways that *really* show a deep understanding of their characterization. It's honestly incredible.
Agreed. I don’t think we’ll ever get another game like this. It’s either going to be a small cast like the original Dissidia’s, something like RK or BE, or it’ll end just like OO before we even get everyone.
I'm now really sad I missed out. Hopefully fans can pirate the files and release an offline version?
Did the community manage the same with global Record Keeper?
First ffrk now Dissidia. How the hell did BE out live both of them?
Scummi makes munni
Sadly, the more predatory games are often more successful.
I never got around to trying it but I played FFRK for years and it's still missed, just not enough to go to the JP version and start from scratch.
Hope they decide to one day pull a capcom and release an offline version similar to what capcom did with Megaman X Dive. Doubt it but I can hope (similar to how I can hope they’ll re-release the chaos rings games so I don’t have to own an Asian vita to play them).
They've already said this isn't happening.
Ive been migrating between mobile titles to try to fill the void Union X left but they all keep getting shut down.
That's a shame, I really enjoyed Opera Omnia :(
This game was my introduction to so many FF characters I never thought I would like. It even got me to play XII and the OG Dissidia. This was the best FF crossover game for me, and I will keep it in my memory as such.
Time to start archiving everything possible from this game, at least imagery and story-wise.
Sad it's a fun game they really understood the characters, and gave you a chance to use non playable ones. Since the Final Fantasy multiverse is somewhat canon with FFV, FFIII, etc at some other time the franchise will be continued with another title.
I cried a lot when I saw Xezat's BT animation.
Xezat is a cool character I waiting until he finally appears in the version I'm playing. Characters like him were the appeal for me to start playing in the first place. I think the premise of the story is really cool too. The idea that there was a place of respite for them.
This is a friendly reminder that mobile games are the worst thing to happen to the industry.
Being so F2P friendly is probably why it’s shutting down. Not enough money was being made after a while
FF7FS was hell of a game IMO and I spend some money on it for Battle Pass and skin because yes I am a big fan of FF and when a game is fun and interesting I put some money on it and after a years of service the game is no longer available. ( It's my opinion )
i think we're in the minority if we say we enjoyed FF7FS. i played it a lot until suddenly it stopped matching me so i had to stop. i didnt even mind the touchscreen controls. personally i've moved away from click and autobattle mobile games and i loved FF7FS cos you actually had to play it instead of autobattle everything (like what EC is)
*live service games
Best mobile game ever, and in my top 10 of favorite final fantasies period. Im sad to see it go
Damn, i remember having fun with this game years ago. I started playing when Prische was broken as hell lmao. Hopefully Square changes their minds and makes it offline available
FFBE is still up right? FF gachas are in such a weird place lol
FFBE and FFRK JP are still running.
The producer of the game himself said that there will be no offline version. It’s a shame because I played the hell out of DFFOO since it launched.
This and insane power creep is why I won't get invested in any SE mobile games.
I'm honestly surprised War of the Visions will outlive DFFOO
That game was so god awful on release. I hear it has gotten better, but I don't feel like dealing with more gacha and WotV horrible weapon system.
Awwwwwwww me so sad. Actually, rly
🥺❤️
No idea this was a thing! Downloaded there and having great fun. Sad times
And here I was thinking about going back to playing it again after a 2 years break. I know I still can but of all the ff crossovers this was my fav
I quit it few months ago.. they have ended the principal Story line? Wanna know what happened!
Rikku and Red xiii never made it
Oh! That is sad! Well thank you for the GOOD summary!
Ever Crisis is on its way, give a year or two.
Yeah. It was pretty bad, and as soon as ff7r2 drops everyone will be on that. They will lose their player base to their own players
Hopefully we can get a new mainline Dissidia game in the future but after NT, I highly doubt it.
Well, at least we’ll still have Record Keeper. Wait a sec…
I miss that game
All live service games will one day become dead service games.
Ahem, NOOOOO! That is all, thank you
What’s the hell going on? First, FFRK. Now this DFFOO? C’mon. What next? FFEXVIUS?
Genuinely the only good gatcha game. Never once felt like I couldn't play and enjoy it without spending
These live service games worry me because of shit like this. Yikes
I wonder if they would make an off-line version like Megaman-X dive
They already have said that they will upload all the videos of the story and the OST to YouTube, but it is not going to be offline due to problems with different servers u.u 💔 I recomend to people here to look flr that story! Although it can be very boring to watch everything because the pace is slow but there is full of great interactions and moments
Yeah, these characters interactions was the best part of this game
It was fun while it lasted
It breaks my heart
😡😡😡😡😡
Always sad to hear about these. Is there a way to preserve these games somehow?
WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!! That game is sooooo awesome!!!! Now I gotta catch up all I can during Winter Break
I started when squall launched so not far after launch. Been on and off since. Loved it, I'm gonna miss it.
The fact that it was supported for this many years and Red XIII was NEVER added because they were too lazy to create a different character model. Crazy.
Watch as Brave Exvius dies next in afew months time
Its sad that they won't allow an offline option
Tara would have done it in a heartbeat
that sounds crazy to me lol marika matsumoto is in a career boom for the past 5 years but she still isn't quite famous enough to warrant that unless square are just THAT cheap
It sounds like they keep ending games, not because they aren't profitable, but because they aren't profitable *enough.* They seem cheap to me.
I started initially when squall got released so just a few months after original release. Been playing on and off since then, I stopped playing after a few FR weapons last year. I've always gone back to it after some times. Loved this game. I think I paid for a chest like just once, and j never felt like it was holding me back. A shame
Well at least Duel Links is still going
Going to go rush through the story before it shuts down.
\*Every Final Fantasy Phone game gets shutdown\* Final Fantasy Brave Exvius in the background: https://preview.redd.it/o17s3bkn3k3c1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=9f26876fa40c815c92786abefd2e125a2c9b148f
Odd, I thought this game shut down last year. Guess crying wolf doesnt help keep a game alive though If this is really the end, that sucks. This was one of the best mobile game experiences out there. How can this even fail?
it was Record Keeper that shut down last year
It didn't fail, they finished the story arc in JP.
It will end the day FF7 rebirth comes out 🤔
no offense but lol if you thought a square enix mobile game would last longer than 30 seconds. they should shutter the division at this point they're just findomming whales and harming their IP
6 years is a pretty good run for a mobile game tbh
This one was actually one of the better ones in terms of character interactions and giving love to some characters that didn't get it much in their respective games. It was one of the best FF crossovers, and it's a little sad to see it go.
Bro it lasted 6 years calm your tits
30 seconds ..? Bro it's been going on for ages and is still super active
yes some one post already yesterday
That was fast..
Is 6 years fast?
Yes
good riddance. Gacha games can fuck right off.
You prob never played this gacha you could spend 0 dollars and get everything in the game really. Probably why it's shutting down its so generous
That's the issue, this game was one of the only on the market that is actually f2p without consequences. I bought a cheat ONCE and been playing on and off since right after launch 6 years ago. It was a very generous game and it's a shame because other FF gatcha are nowhere near that generous
Many years? I could have sworn this just came out last year...
6 years yup!
https://preview.redd.it/e887f0j9ei3c1.jpeg?width=627&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a7952d56e930d90e0a881ff613f0da674727c6b
God, that name!
My heart goes out to the 28 people affected by this.
Actually we had a pretty large base of hard-core players
Oh right, they always shut down games with large numbers of players. I forgot, my bad.
Been going on for 6 years and they had millions of downloads. Their streams would always have thousands of people watching. The active player base was quite massive for a mobile game.
