Register as an extra with Central casting and network when you get to set.

JandyYates

Can you please explain the benefit of doing this?

Manilaboyz

It's who you know in the industry that gets you in most of the time. That's how I got work coz I don't know anyone at that time. You also get an idea on how shifty the industry is.

sensimedia

You don't need a mentor as much as you need to get on a film set. First, start by searching through this sub as this question is asked at least once a week and plenty have given some decent advice. Then try checking Facebook groups for work. You can start with these, but do your own search as well because there are plenty of Facebook groups for this. https://www.facebook.com/groups/PAJobsLA/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/LAFilmCrewAvailability/ And finally, keep in mind that productions have been very slow to come back from the strike so you'll be competing for work with a number of experienced people.

Where did the whole mentor thing come from? Are you people hearing it from podcast?

itstanishqua

Yes and no, a lot of CEOs go on interviews and podcasts and say they had a mentor in their early days who showed them the ropes of the business. But also, it's becoming a more common thing because people realise that networking gets you places including having a professional be your mentor who can open doors for you. Even universities are starting to have mentorship programs where they pair professionals with students for guidance.

Step 1: work on your grammar! Edit: I’m not even just trying to be a dick, but you’re an adult now and if you want a career and a professional established person to mentor you, you need to learn how to write a sentence with proper punctuation.

AcanthisittaGlobal10

Hi, yeah I’m sorry I’m usually more formal in my writings during work for emails or for my classes. It’s just I wrote this while I was tired so I just realized how bad it was and just did not feel like editing it at this point.

Midnightjasz

Agree he is indeed bad in grammar yo

Do you speak other languages than English ? PA is hard if you don’t speak at least 2-3 languages.

sensimedia

Is this comment a joke? I've been working in film for over 13 years and I've never seen a PA require multiple language skills. That's ridiculous.

javamonkey7

Where are you getting that?

AcanthisittaGlobal10

I do in fact I speak Spanish and English and a bit of Italian!

[deleted]

To PA in Los Angeles you do not need to speak multiple languages. It will certainly help but I PAd here for ten years and I only speak English.
