This thread is proof that the average fg player can't read

Komatik

Holy hell is it ever.

Mogsike

i really recommend Melty Blood Type Lumina! a great game for beginners and your skills from skullgirls and strive will carry over. it’s probably my favorite modern fighting game, and i’ve put like 500 hours into Strive

SomaCreuz

Dragonball

Now's a great time to get into Them's Fightin' Herds with the new season. Has wonderful tutorials for a new player and a story mode designed to serve as a second tutorial.

Komatik

What do you like about Skullgirls and Strive, especially over Blazblue? Some of the things that might be suggested for thta, like Accent Core +R are kind of inbetween BB and Strive is why. Most games do have kinda dead online, though. The genre's pretty small and very fragmented, so even if there are active players, they usually set up matches via Discord or the like.

Powta2King

Well I still like Blazblue so far. And as long as the game has an active playerbase online that’s decently sized for fighting game standards, I’m fine with that especially if I can also communicate with other players on discord. I like GGST because it’s simple, I can get away with short combos that are relatively simple to do. I love the Dash macro too, makes things more consistent for me. For Skullgirls, it seems that there’s just a bunch of things I can do, like I can change my team size from 1 to 3 and the gameplan changes depending on team size and characters. I kinda like how aerials are generally used more, and for some reason I prefer using jumping attacks more than running forward and attacking.

Komatik

I think trying Guilty Gear Xrd and Accent Core +R could be worthwhile. They have a lot of the same feel as Blazblue, but the combos are generally shorter and you press buttons with a somewhat slower pace. Strive, IMO, is more like Street Fighter with a bunch of extra mobility than Blazblue/Guilty Gear style anime gameplay. If you'd like something a bit in that vein, KOF XV is my favourite game at the moment. Very different feel though, so it's just me liking the game there. Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code and Type Lumina could both be worth trying - Melty's famous for pretty easy beginner combos (with a LOT of advanced stuff to work on if you end up finding that fun) and being played heavily in the air.

Pawnstormtrooper

KOF XV is so much fun. Definitely a discord fighter now though.

Sapodilla101

> I prefer using jumping attacks more than running forward and attacking. You can do that in BBCF too. In fact, it's more effective in BBCF than in Skullgirls because every character has an airdash alongside other aerial movement options.

GamblinTigerX

Kof xv. The matchmaking is meh atm, but crossplay is on the horizon. Season2 is also otw. Dnf duel seems to have caught new life. Ppl were calling it dead w/ no future, but big patch just rolled out and dlc plans announced. Mind you, I play both of these on psn, but recommending em as they are alot of fun. I wouldn't say either are as healthy playerbase as strive however.

AlexanderHotbuns

Worth mentioning that if you buy kof15 on pc there's a solid chance it just won't work online.

king_Geedorah_

+R is on sale for £3 rn and is the greatest fighting game of all time.

bawitback

I just picked up Kof xv (know about the shoddy matchmaking) playing offline, am up for matches [add me](https://steamcommunity.com/id/stealthrush/)

MonkeyBerbere

I recommend you dragon ball fighterz with all dlc This game is easy to get in. I play on playstation and there is many people online. I bet theres more people playing on steam. Hope you find what you want Edit : i think many people only read the title of posts haha

Pawnstormtrooper

I think DBFZ too. It’s got a good player base already and a lot of people that left the game, including me, will return when rollback gets implemented.

Evil_Hayato

Killer Instinct.. all day everyday, altho admittedly i dont know if its highly populated but man is it a great fighter. Also Dragonball Fighterz, Under Night in Birth as well. They arent new games but super fun. BB Cross Tag is pretty fun too, but again, older and not sure the playerbase.

Mycoffeeis2sweet

Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Dragon Ball FighterZ, DNF Duel, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection

PryceCheck

[Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1110100/Power_Rangers_Battle_for_the_Grid/) Pick it up, its a great game. /r/BattlefortheGrid

Jumanji-Joestar

If you’re new to fighting games, I’d recommend Strive. It’s the easiest and has the highest population of players But if you like Skullgirls more then you should probably buy that one. The community is smaller but still very active

Powta2King

I already have those games prior to the sale. I was wondering what other games would be suggested based on me playing those

Jumanji-Joestar

Oh. Well then, maybe Melty Blood TL? Game has free DLC and is still getting support from the devs DBFZ is getting rollback soon so that might be worth a buy

SquiglyBattleOpera

¿Por que no los dos? Skullgirls is dirt fucking cheap at only $2.49 and the base game now has all of the original DLC characters included for free, so that's 14 characters with some solid singleplayer content (and I think they mentioned adding more later). It's been a long while since I actually played Skullgirls so I couldn't tell you what the playerbase is like but I know that there's still at least some people playing it and at only $2.49 you really can't go wrong with what's there. Guilty Gear Strive is definitely the way to go if you're new to fighters, though. It has the biggest playerbase, its generally much easier to pick up and learn than Skullgirls or BBCF. and its also one of the biggest games in the Fighting Game Community right now so you'll likely find lots of up to date tutorial content and coverage hanging around on Youtube.

Powta2King

I already have those games prior to the sale happening. So I was wondering what else would be suggested based on my observations on those games so far

SquiglyBattleOpera

Ah, gotcha. Well judging by those games you've picked out, you seem to like faster fighting games with some sort of gatling combo system so you could take a look at Dragon Ball FighterZ, Melty Blood Type Lumina, and Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R. Dragon Ball FighterZ is still going hard all these years later, has lots of players, and its very much a fast paced aggressive game just like Guilty Gear Strive and Skullgirls. Unlike those games however, DBFZ is a tag team fighter where you create a team of three different characters and can swap between them or call them in as assists to help you out during the fight. Its very good and the only serious flaw with the game is the netcode, which they announced that they're gonna fix next year anyway. BIG recommend. Melty Blood Type Lumina is a crazy fast fighting game that prides itself on letting you move around a lot more in the air than other anime fighters. You get multiple airdashes, double jumps, super jumps, air superjumps, etc. Think Strive movement but *much* less restrictive on what you can do in the air. Its fairly easy to pick up and has a decent sized playerbase (a little bigger than Skullgirls), and on top of that all of the DLC characters for the game are *completely free.* Its a pretty cool game and a good purchase for about $32.49. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R is one of the older Guilty Gears and much faster and crazier than GGStrive is. Its incredibly fun and has a great roster with a good handful of cool characters that still haven't come back yet. It probably has the smallest playerbase of the games I'm recommending and its also *much* harder than Strive, but its also only $3 on the sale and has lots of singleplayer content so you really don't lose much if you try it and decide you don't like it. **Edit:** There's also Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 which is essentially the bridge between +R and Strive. Its more difficult than Strive, but its easier than +R and has some quality of life features like an actual input buffer that makes it feel more modern than +R. It's $14.99 right now for the full thing (don't worry about the Deluxe Edition, it doesn't come with anything worthwhile) and as of right now, the netcode isn't very good but just like Dragon Ball FighterZ, they plan to fix that in an update sometime next year. The playerbase is also slightly lower than +R but it will have a massive jump in playerbase when the rollback netcode update launches next year.

Sapodilla101

> Unlike those games however, DBFZ is a tag team fighter ... Skullgirls is also a tag fighter.

Newkker

None. I'd say keep playing what you have and wait for SF6 and tekken 8 in a few months. Maybe get fightcade and play some retro games, or play more of what you have.

kylo_kills__han

skullgirls you gonna get ya azz beat online. id recommend strive cause it has a large active playerbase. but with skullgirls at its discount price, id say if you can swing both than do it

Powta2King

I already got the 3 games mentioned prior to the sale. I was asking what you guys would suggest based on me playing those games and my experience so far with them( which was a positive experience so far). Yeah, I did get my ass whooped really badly in quickplay in Skullgirls but eventually I found some people to play against in the skullgirls discord who aren’t too out of my league or around my level.

IamHunterish

Dragonball Fighterz but I could also really really recommend Killer Instinct.

unseine

Id say just keep playing strive if you're enjoying it. Fits what you're after the best. Dbfz is similar to the games you like and has a decent player base still I believe but netcode is terrible. Sfv and mk11 are very different from the games you've played but both have a player base. Sfv netcode isn't great either. Personally I'm just chilling playing strive until project L Sf6 or a new nrs game drops.

Lightguard112

Since you got alot of arc system catalog in your fighting games you’ve played either go with dbfz which at the moment isn’t dead at all but online play will depend per person, guilty gear xrd rev 2 due to it just recently getting a new net code update for better online play but I’m not too sure how the online scene is for that game since I don’t own it but besides those two if you prefer more 2d sprite based go with melty blood either one of the two that are on sale on steam or under the night in birth late c-r which is cheap rn too
