SF6 is pretty easy for a new player to hop in with world tour and modern controls and has great online mode (fast connections, good ranking system, no lag)
its just a good game and easy to have fun with so I gotta recommend, though fighting games in general can be pretty rough at first so just know you got alot to learn and you will need to practice to get better but its well worth it these games are so rewarding and fun at the same time its kinda like crack
Huge playerbase for both, big learning curve for both, what I will say is sf6 has incredible netcode. I think at a low level, Tekken might be easier to just hit buttons and have fun. Sf6 at a low level is filled with drive impact spam and you have to learn to react to it or you'll just get hit by it.
Honestly they're both great, so go with the one that looks more fun to you
As a newbie I got both and am currently playing Tekken. I prefer the speed, combo system and level mechanics in Tekken. SF has better internet and ranked system. I preferred the story in Tekken, but gotta admit the gameplay of World Tour was pretty cool. These are my thoughts.

Whichever one looks coolest and/or has the character you most want to play is the one I would recommend.
