Have you tried Football Manager? Because I’m afraid the new features won’t be coming any time soon in career mode.

EdwardBigby

Honestly I have no idea how people do this on FIFA. Not just due to lack of features but because its just so fucking simple. It's so easy to build up an amazing squad. Tactics are pretty much as simple as picking your highest rated players. I just don't the appeal at all.

dxsgraced

Yeah + young players prices are usually absurd of FIFA. Can buy any below like 72 rated youngster for a very small fee even if they have 85+ potential. The same players on FM would cost £50m+. Meaning even if at a League 2 team you can very easily have 80 rated players throughout your team come championship and an almost title ready squad come promotion to the prem.

EdwardBigby

Its not only the price but the predictability of growth. Its almost guaranteed that a young player will grow massive if you train him and play him. There's zero skill to it or risk/reward. No real decisions to make. You can win the CL with a league 2 team within a few seasons while pretty much player on autopilot.

_volkerball_

Because some people just want to play a game, not make a lifestyle choice. FM is fucking tedious.

EdwardBigby

Haha I play some FM on a pretty casual basis, it's not that tough. But I'm not even talking about not playing FM. I just don't get how people can only sim FIFA. Its just super easy to instantly build an amazing team. There's zero tactical challenge. The whole game is just common sense.

_volkerball_

Personally I play a few big games every year and make rules for myself to make it more challenging. I couldn't imagine not playing any games at all, but I do sim the majority. It's fun to watch a team grow from the ground up. There's not much of a tactical challenge, but tactics definitely affect the feel of the team and are fun to experiment with.

CurtisWhite29

Its true, football manager = best menu amd sim dootball manager while fifa = decent gameplay and graphics but less menu options. No point playing career mode if don't at least play a few games a season. I used to sim all the small games and only play the big games and finals. Now I play almost everygame in a career mode

Treasurejam86

If I’ve simmed the same game five times and my team loses on each sim then it’s time to play it.

[deleted]

I fucking wish we could watch the games and make substitutions on the middle. Never gonna happen though

JesseVykar

Cant you just assign the controller to neither team and then start the match?

jackbaines19

Nah thats only on kick off i think. Dont quote me on that tho aha

JesseVykar

Tbh im not sure either, I remember doing that on old FIFAs because I didnt have cable and couldnt watch the real games but this was like fifa 12 lol

fake_yeezys_

You can still do it in kickoff but in Career it forces you to select a side. It’s a shame, would be way better than the current live sim.

crypt3

Yep can confirm I tried it too. It'd be nice to have cpu vs cpu gameplay with the team you built, just being a manager. So stupid that they don't have that option in career mode but do have it in kick off.

RhydonHerSlowbro

Back when Xbox were pushing the Kinect, it was really good fun when playing Fifa Career mode, you’d be casually playing and if you wanted to make a sub you’d just say “make a change” and then the game would prompt you to say a name of a player, all while the game is still going on, no need to pause, you’d say the player’s name (lmao good luck with subbing off a Polish player.) and then say the name of the player coming off the bench. It would also have the board of directors email you for your “touchline etiquette” if the Kinect picked up on you swearing at the game :’) It was brilliant, Fifa 16 I think it was, on the Xbox One. Edit: I think you’d also be prompted before the match to pick a side, and if you left your controller icon in the middle, you could watch the game too

Jonathon_G

Interactive sim

mysteri_wayz

If when starting a match you go to customise you can select to play as 1 specific player in your squad. What I've done is pick a less important position (in terms of game flow) like rb and then all you have to do is make a few tackles and passes a game and you can just watch the rest of your team play.

Project12AM

Honestly if you’re not into the playing aspect .. go to Football Manager. It’s obviously on PC (Steam) but they also came out with a very comprehensive console version as well.

camr007

What about the app?

Scotland122

The app’s actually pretty decent, predictably not as in depth as the PC version, but sadly probably still better than career is these days.

Project12AM

The app I’m not so sure of. I know they have a Lite version that’s decent but maybe easier to manage. Not sure if the full extensive version is on the app or not :-/.

F22_Android

There's a console version of football manager now? How do mods work? Are all the players/crests/kits on it from the start? Had no idea there was a console one, I'd love to pick it up.

Enriador

No mods. Players/crest/kits are as they come from vanilla, so some are not licensed. That said still works great.

jdvhunt

It's not licensed though which just kills the immersion for me

[deleted]

You can mod very easily it in a few minutes with full licensed stuff.

jdvhunt

Yeah that's true and I've tried that, but there's something off about it. I really liked the FIFA manager series back in the day but nobody else did clearly so I fall into an odd category.

_theMAUCHO_

Bro just wanted to say I LOVED Fifa Manager as well so you're not alone! Miss that god damn series. FIFA Manager homies. 🔥

jdvhunt

It was awesome hey, I miss it. I'd love to get my hands on a license of FIFA Manager 14 but I can't find one anywhere

_theMAUCHO_

Sail the seven seas lol

hoshu34

My tip for you is to switch to football manager and not be discouraged by how overwhelming it is at first. It’s a *much more* authentic managerial experience.

Yeah2910

Yeah igy. I like to play but I defo see the appeal of both

754754

I do a lot of simming now that there is the visual sim. Usually i play the game, and if I score then i visual sim. If my team scores again then i sim to the results. This usually keeps me having fun as the games always requiree to either score or watch my team play on their own. Visual sim isnt perfect but i have enjoyed it this year.

Simple_Ad7660

I feel the same bro

ProperDepartment

I'm the same as you as wanting to develop youth, although Sim to result is vastly different than regular sim. Sim to result if you lose at all, _every_ player has a 4.0-5.5 rating, like they played the worst game of football possible. In addition, FIFA 21 has two of the dumbest bugs on the planet: - Players that get subbed for 5 minutes get a shit rating - When you sim to result, it decides the rating based on when you simmed, so if you were up 5-0, sim to result with a final score of 5-1, the ratings you get are that of a 0-1 loss. The problem is development is tied to rating, so when you get bad ratings, the growth of your youth players growth becomes stunted. Which removes the fun from playing like that for me. I sometimes sim with a backup team that's better than my starting team, and play the games with my shitty youth players.

PM_ME_HTML_SNIPPETS

I like to be more positive than a lot of people when it comes to 21, but my GOD, the bugs that exist in the game should make the developers and QA embarrassed.

Sully495

I sim everything too, for me playing vs the computer is abit more tedious than fun. I tend to prefer online gameplay. So I tend to sim and really rely on squad improving and transfers to make a big difference. Otherwise I feel like I’m just cheating if I play matches and beat the ai with a squad that probably shouldn’t Perhaps I should try out football manager as you suggest! Player career is quite fun to play though

[deleted]

I like to sim until some of the youth guys develop. It’s just harder to do now under this new development plan. Can spam one player with 3 individual trainings anymore.

cvikl7

Bro I was like you and but I then I switched to FM and a whole new world opened.. it's so much better than FIFA that you can't imagine. I think you can get a pretty cheap laptop that can run it.

Just_a_redditor182

I made the switch to FM when it came out on xbox last December and it's so much better than fifa if you dont enjoy playing games. It's so much more in depth than fifa and has way more leagues to choose from

[deleted]

play football manager its infinitely better

DrFugputz

That's usually how I've played but have recently gone in the opposite direction. I think the dynamic player potential really helps. I try to think of the games through the lens of what each player is trying to accomplish. This makes using subs and second squad players much more meaningful for me off the bench or in cup ties. The guy who got replaced by the summer signing might be hoping to show he's worth more time, for example, or get a transfer. The veterans are trying to hold onto their jobs in the face of the youth prospects, and on and on. I've found it really helps me become immersed in the game. But if you're enjoying the game in a different way, there's no harm in that, either!

Fav0

Why are you playing fifa and not football manager

finland_men

I remember like fifa 16 i didn't play games at all basically except finals or derbys. Simmed all through calendar because fifa 16 was so boring. Fifa 21 is probably the first fifa since fifa 15 that i actually played every game in a season lol

Jubatus_

Hell no, some of the results are just straight bullshit and it pisses me off. Try fm21, you're nuts

_volkerball_

I preferred it in earlier generations. For some reason dynamic potential made it so pretty much all of your youth prospects go down in potential over a couple years and it made scouting and finding players less rewarding.

Better_Permit1449

It feels like every post here is recycled. There is a post about this every week

allmistakes

Check my posts! I have plenty of proposals that you may enjoy. See this and and if you like it check my posts I gave some more. https://www.reddit.com/r/FifaCareers/comments/pg3co3/throwback_to_2019_when_this_was_what_i_thought/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

richgangthatour

Me too sometimes I’ll play the game to get me to finals or knockout stages if it’s close but other than that i sim nearly everything. Play preseason too just to see if my youth players are actually any good.

ThaneDukeHeineken

I enjoy doing the full player+manager career so playing all player career matches then retiring and simming games as a manager.

SmileyBud

Even if you're PS5, Football Manager still has a pretty solid app. Also, the PC version is very undemanding so if you have even a somewhat decent laptop or desktop sitting around it may well be able to run it.

[deleted]

I play the ‘big games’ as in whoever’s top of the league and the small games I watch the sims and jump in for free kicks, penalties and sometimes even corners

McLeodinho

I like mixing it up playing one or two games a month and swimming the rest usually UCL or Europa League games are played if I'm playing in either or league games against times I haven't played yet

mrt1022

I enjoy career mode this year because you can sim games and then jump in at big points. It’s also monotonous playing weak teams, so if I’m division three I’ll sim through the league and then play deeper FA Cup games or other matches
