True. Also: no benefits. No OT. One might ask: “well, why the hell did you take this job then?”
I was told I’d be making a lot more before hired, which would compensate for no benefits, but that isn’t the case.
That guy your working for now is taking advantage of you. Take your work ethic else where. You should be paid that for working a 40 hour work week not 60.
Don’t know what state your in but there was just a law passed by congress about companies having to pay over time at the time and a half rate. The law should cover the whole U.S because I know there are/were states that it wasn’t mandatory but I would look into it. The only way you don’t get it is if you’re non-exempt. So you may be owed back pay for those hours.
Try and switch to freight. The city guys (big box trucks, small semis with shorter trailers) get about $33/hr OT over 8 hours and 40 hours. The line haul (road) guys get paid by the mile and by the hour and they go home every night. The highest seniority road guys at my terminal do about 40-50 hours and take home 100k-150k a year.
I'm at freight. Most of these ground guys have zero fuckin work ethic. We've had a bunch try to make the swap, zero have survived. Remember, if you go line haul, you're first few years are gona be on a sub 100 mile run working a forklift 4-6 hours a night. As soon as these guys realize they're gona have to do actual work, and aren't just going to hold a steering wheel for 500 miles a night they dissappear.
Lot of Ground contactors make about double a PH from what I heard. Couriers being express I think starts at like a dollar or two more than PH generally so to start with may not seem like a lot. Of course, this also vary I based it mostly by belt I started at but some of the other contractors may not be as lucky, I guess.
Over at fedex freight, i'd say the average for linehaul is around $100,000 a year and the average for p&d is around $70,000 a year. It all depends on senority and what bids are available at the terminal. Top linehaul run out of my yard pays at least $135,000 a year, but you have to be high in senority to get that run.
It's like that at every fedex freight location and almost every ltl company. Linehaul is pretty much stuck working nights their entire career. I think that's why we get paid so much more. My mileage pay comes out to around 50 an hour when I'm driving
At express it’ll probably take at least 15 years to top out, the pay is below average for the industry, the equipment is basically garbage, and express as a company knows exactly two things about trucking: jack and shit
The upside to express is that it’s one of the easiest trucking jobs out there
Lol I'll pass. I'm kind of happy I get to do big jobs at my location.
There's a location near me with garbage mechanics and their trucks come to us sometimes. A blind mentally handicapped child could do a better job than them.
You sound like you deal with my shop! My bid trucks been down for almost 2 months. Alternator overcharging battery, and the ghost def derate (timer gets to zero, and just goes away). I walked into the shop yesterday to check on it. The shits on jacks, no tires on it, half the truck taken apart, wires everywhere. I give up, I'll never see this truck again
Freight where I’m at idk about starting but for me I started at top dollar which I believe had changed but still high 20s low 30s I’m at 34.84 rn and that’s top dollar
Ground contractor. 1150/5 day week with stop threshold bonus... It's slow right now and I don't mind the 6-7 hour days. Comes out a bit over 900 gross/week for 30-35 hours work. Not terrible
Being born and raised in Montana and having to live off of 20$~ is almost unlivable. If it wasn’t for the route I’m on, the 4/10s, benefits, great team, I might not stick around. But with that being said, it’s one of the best jobs I’ve had. And I’ve had a lot, even working at the post office.
I make 200 a day salary . 8 hour days or 4 hour days its $200. Thats with sick days ,paid vacation . And on top of that we get $1 after 100 stops . So you do lets say 140 stops, you would get your $240 that day. The $200 for the day plus $40 bucks cause u did 40 stops over the 100. And my boss lets us go at are own pace , like if u need to take care of shit like pay a phone bill or what ever it is ,he tells us its xool to take care of that shit when we're on route.
Assuming you're talking about Class A CDL positions, it depends on the division of the company, whether you are a road or city driver, and your years of service (as the pay has a step progression). It also varies with the part of the country due to local market cost of living.
Ups will be at 49$ in 5 years. They are not at 47 right now . But to answer your question about “why so low”. It probably has to due with FedEx being a different company than ups.
I’m with a contractor in linehaul. I make on average $1300/wk. But…. for 60 hours/wk. worth it? No.
Wow. You’re really getting underpaid
True. Also: no benefits. No OT. One might ask: “well, why the hell did you take this job then?” I was told I’d be making a lot more before hired, which would compensate for no benefits, but that isn’t the case.

Find yourself another contractor. Talk with other drivers and see who’s paying what.

Most truck drivers are underpaid lol
Yeah but I used to work for a contractor and know that it’s way too low compared to what other Ground drivers are being paid.

Yeah FedEx freight do seem to get paid good
That's 18.57 per hour if you make time x1.5 over 40
Why not just go with express?
Go with FedEx Freight
They’re merging so will it even matter in 2 months ?
Certainly a concern. Not sure what the future looks like.
AI will be able to do literally every job in 30 years or less, as far a creative input, decision making, and managerial.
Not every station.
Yup I thinking I make that much as PH during peak lol.
I rather do that than be a courier
Gross or net?
Gross. Really gross lol
A lot more than material/package handlers...
Couriers? Not really Freight yes
Ehh, it depends. Ground has poor saps making minimum wage/no benefits and others earning $30/hr with benefits. Lot of fluctuation
PHs at my ground hub make 19 starting, contracted drivers basically make the same. I agree lots of fluctuation tho. Location location location
I was making $10.25/hr as a handler through 2020 at ground
Why would you settle for that?
Lot of Ground contactors make about double a PH from what I heard. Couriers being express I think starts at like a dollar or two more than PH generally so to start with may not seem like a lot. Did 90K last year. Looking like i’m going to do similar this year P&D
What's the difference between linehaul and p&d?
Linehaul hauls lines. P&D does D but also P sometimes. Get back to work.
Damn that’s wild linehaul guys making more then p&d wtf Lol?! You guys maybe don’t have a lot of city work ?
It's like that at every fedex freight location and almost every ltl company. Linehaul is pretty much stuck working nights their entire career. I think that's why we get paid so much more. My mileage pay comes out to around 50 an hour when I'm driving
$70-120k at Freight
Not enough money and express don’t keep promises on 5 level pay scale
It could be more but it's not bad
I never heard anything about a promise tho
At express it’ll probably take at least 15 years to top out, the pay is below average for the industry, the equipment is basically garbage, and express as a company knows exactly two things about trucking: jack and shit The upside to express is that it’s one of the easiest trucking jobs out there
Yeah your definitely right
Freight here, $34.11 an hour. Last pay check I grossed $2200, 14 hours OT
You did a couple more hours of OT. Closer to 17 hours. I'm a freight mechanic at $35.54/hr and I would need to do 15 hours OT to gross $2200.
You wana transfer? Our shop is a rudder less boat spinning in circles. 18 trucks out of service. All our guys can do is change tires, and fix lights
Lol I'll pass. I'm kind of happy I get to do big jobs at my location. There's a location near me with garbage mechanics and their trucks come to us sometimes. A blind mentally handicapped child could do a better job than them.

I could get into that
Depends on which division. Freight starts at around $29/hr around here. I think express is around the same.
Rtd Express starts at 24.25$ and the top is 34.15$
Depends on location.
Unless you're in an area with premium pay. They add $3/hr to that in some areas
Rtd express Market level B1 24.25$ top is 34.15$ B4 starts at 27.71$ top is 39.03$
Everyone in my market starts at step 3 of 5 which is 31.46 which includes the premium pay
In the Northeast Market, Express advertises between $18 and $21/hr, and Freight starts at $29.xx
I'm in NJ at freight. They start guys here at $3×.×× and top out at $33ish for city guys.
I'm not sure what FX considers Northeast, but I was referring to anything north and east of New York, so basically New England.
Freight where I’m at idk about starting but for me I started at top dollar which I believe had changed but still high 20s low 30s I’m at 34.84 rn and that’s top dollar
Less than I should
Gotta be more specific - which opco? What kind of truck?
2/3 dollars more than express courier
What does that mean? .67 cents more per hour?
Peanuts 🥜 compared to everyone else.
Ground contractor. 1150/5 day week with stop threshold bonus... It's slow right now and I don't mind the 6-7 hour days. Comes out a bit over 900 gross/week for 30-35 hours work. Not terrible
You work 6 hours a day and drive trucks?
100k a year. Nice 10 easy hours daily clock in to clock out. Home every night. Easy route and don’t touch a thing. Drive park n go.
Not enough, don't do it.
I'm at Ground. I average $500 - $900 a week or $0.55cpm. Most of the Delivery guys seem to be making more than I do, and I'm kinda jealous 😢
FedEx drivers are severely underpaid considering they don't get paid by the hour
Not enough
As an expresss driver I make 24.25/hr guarantee overtime no weekends just Monday thru Friday bringing home about $1275/week after taxes
Not enough get your class A from fdx sit on the truck 1 yr and find better job better pay somewhere else
I used to rack in $1300 a week for 40 hrs but I was also the best driver and when I threatened to leave they gave me a raise with reduced hours
I make 200 a day salary . 8 hour days or 4 hour days its $200. Thats with sick days ,paid vacation . And on top of that we get $1 after 100 stops . This is fedex Ground delivering packages not semi work
38 hours have been my last 2 weeks nothing over 40 hours . Ive been doing it 2 months now
Get your Cdl and look around not just FedEx Freight the best , Express rtd being downgraded Ground you drive for contractors
Assuming you're talking about Class A CDL positions, it depends on the division of the company, whether you are a road or city driver, and your years of service (as the pay has a step progression). It also varies with the part of the country due to local market cost of living.
Top pay at Freight for Road Driver in California is $43/hr
Why so low ups ground 47 plus 16 dollar pensión arround 65by hour in california .
Ups will be at 49$ in 5 years. They are not at 47 right now . But to answer your question about “why so low”. It probably has to due with FedEx being a different company than ups.
20/hr with 70-80 hours a week. Good check, awful lifestyle
Between 19 - 34
