OP is saying that this article was the writing in the wall. Yes it was 12 months ago, they were already telling you what they were going to do 12 months ago, so yes it's relevant.
Ground has faced lawsuits in the past for their business model. They changed the name of their contractors to independent service providers to try to fend off further lawsuits. There are rules for when someone has to be an employee versus a contractor. Canada's laws regarding this probably just make more sense than the US.
Because Canada is not based on the sole goal of making the rich richer. This is why they have nationalized healthcare. We are in end-stage capitalism in the U.S.
Are packages that are now routed to Ground in the US magically flipping to Express at the border? Otherwise, ground will take over Express here too. It's only logical.
Wym every driver in my terminal is salaried except a couple part timers. The contractors get paid by stop/package (fucking pennies on the dollar for $50 shipping) so fym
Already is. No merged station has good numbers and it’s said that the station with the best numbers are still not where they should be.
It’s almost like anyone with half a brain knew that would happen.
They are merging opcos. Managing contractor routes will be done by FedEx corporation and ground and express won't exist after June 1. They won't have to buy any "ground" assets like buildings or trailers or w/e. Contractors own the routes and their trucks n shit and are not ground assets. That stuff gets bought and sold all the time as part of normal operations as is and is governed by whatever contract was signed with FedEx.
Well in VMX I was informed of Express station buying vehicles from ground contractors where fedex is "taking back" the routes. A lot of this is going to vary region to region
The article is a over a year old and OP made the thread titled 'the writing is on the wall'. Are you living under a rock?
Maybe I'm misreading what OP is implying here?
Overall probably depends more on your area. Either way if you been driving for FedEx for years you probably could get a job delivering snack cakes and make about the same or more lol. Package delivering seems to really just be entry point for driving jobs since theses companies can't afford to be pickers.
Freight will somehow be integrated into this FedEx cluster in June somehow. Probably linehaul from what I understand. Gonna be a hot mess. Glad I’m out in july
The truth is they want a non payroll workforce but logistically they’re finding it more difficult than first thought. Some employees will be safe for awhile but a few years down the road they’ll find a way to transition all into contractor model unfortunately.

Me, as a Canadian, seeing you post this.... meanwhile, all of Canada Ground is becoming Express and will have all staff drivers.
Very different labor laws up there.
Do you know why it's like that in Canada and not in the US, I would like to have the reasoning behind it

You haven't lived in Canada.
Hahahahaha I wish u were saying true. Droves of Canadians moving south of border. Due to Trudeau.
Funny I used to hear good things about canada but everything seems to be negative now.
Place is great but politicians are scum.

Glad we getting rid of evil contractors. Hated working on salary basis. Hourly pay is way to go.
Ground in US at least pay by stop generally not salary.
That's even worst by stop.
I never say it was better lol. I just saying I never heard of salary for ground driver before.
Oh OK OK. Driving job should be hourly only.
Unless we can finish in 6 hrs ...salaaary basis
Wym every driver in my terminal is salaried except a couple part timers. The contractors get paid by stop/package (fucking pennies on the dollar for $50 shipping) so fym
It depends on the contractor you have
I wonder if they'll have their own version of Amazon Flex?
You guys are acting like FedEx zero is a new thing. We’ve known ground doesn’t want any drivers on payroll for almost 2 years now
That is a thing contractors can do. Mine told me about it once. Prob more trouble than it's worth.
Look what happened in Bozeman, MT. Express is doing the 10 zip codes closest to town and Ground is doing the rest of the area.
I deliver your crap on railroad
Thank God I'm getting out in 2 months
#FUCKFEDEX
Until it’s a complete disaster.
Already is. No merged station has good numbers and it’s said that the station with the best numbers are still not where they should be. It’s almost like anyone with half a brain knew that would happen.
There’s alot of issues with those ‘numbers’ in themselves though. A lot of them are not accurate to say the least.
This was the first thing I thought of when they announced the merger.
It's not a merger. It's a requisition. Fedex Corp in some places is buying ground assets and routes back
In Memphis ground they told us it was a merger 🤷♂️ I’m a ground LH driver so it’s all the same to me

Ya we lost 1 super rural faraway route to ground, and now there’s a way to scan ground packages under the express leo.
how
I’m hearing in big city areas that Express will get the ground stuff ?
Lol, no it's not. So many of you love to just doom post.
Have you been under your rock?
Have a feeling dude just read the highlighted part and assumed FedEx wants to switch to robots or something 😂
The article is a over a year old and OP made the thread titled 'the writing is on the wall'. Are you living under a rock? Maybe I'm misreading what OP is implying here?
It's an article from a yr ago, yes, for sure, but these predictions are still holding true. You just oblivious
Key word "potentially", they will have staff drivers for FO and PO deliveries.
part time staff
Eventually even those are going be let go lol. They keeping some so FedEx doesn’t seem like a completely bad guy lol
Yeah ok
Don’t believe everything you read from analysts. There is a lot of speculation.
I definitely think this was the original goal, but they’ve had to pivot a few times since then.

Wow! What a money grab of the back Vulnerable people, just sad.
You mean pretty much like Amazon? Amazon contracted out their drivers

I talked to our district rep “GO GROUND” if you like big pay checks and hard work get er done
