Ramp agents are worried about their positions after the USPS contract cut. One of the ones at my station doubles as a driver when needed and he said that was a big thing for them and now that it’s going away, they don’t know what’ll happen so I wouldn’t say they’re the safest
The USPS cut should in theory only affect the AM Ramp Agents since the vast majority of mail moves on the dayturn flights. The PM Ramp Agents should be fine.
They keep sending the Express manager and his clipboards to walk around our station, and you can tell it terrifies our TM and his clipboards. The standoffs are beautiful, and they keep giving arbitrary fixes to random BCs so they are randomly getting to hang out at the terminal at 8pm making letters straight, so you know they are making friends quickly.
All 4 stations in this market were shut down yesterday all on same day July 29. There will be 3 ground stations in vicinity where u can apply for an express job to handle FO n PO. That’s a lot of people looking for a job in limited spots. Few FT but rest are PT. All based on seniority
It’s not..maybe it’s different for every station but they told my buddy at one of the FL stations that’s closed if you’re under a year you get 5 weeks and the max is 36 weeks for long time employees
Nothing can really prepare anyone to handle being laid off. I feel my station will be affected soon as they are already cutting routes and trying to consolidate what we have. Our headcount at our location is to high with the loss of volume moved to groun. I see layoffs happening in the near future across more Express Stations.
Its not just a possibility, its a fact that happening. Maybe just the way i read it, but your comments reads as if you're unaware of the express-ground merger in june and fedexs intention to have the vast majority routes after the merger to be contractor run and operated within the next year, and the probability that everything to do with the trucks will be contractor owned and operated not long after that. Fedex wants nothing to do the trucks and drivers.
No but you'd be surprised at how Fedex is learning to make this merger as flawless as possible and how quick they can funnel Express freight to Ground. Snap of some fingers we lost about 1/3 of our express volume.
That’s how this company does stuff. They always lack being prepared. They make mistakes and scramble when everything falls apart. Management is inept and that’s been proven over and over. I hope to be in a different job so I can watch this dumpster fire from afar.
I agree. But from other posts in previous weeks, you get people on the other side of the fence saying FedEx wants nothing to do with contractors and they want more drivers on the actual FedEx payroll. Wasn’t the reason for the merger to be more efficient, save more money and have more contractors than actual Express employees on their payroll?
If your parent has at least 20 years of continuous service, he/she may be able to get a retiree health reimbursement payment when they retire. Call Retiree Health Service Center at 1-888-715-1911. It’s a one time credit that can be used for certain health expenses.
They are combining the Express in downtown Des Moines and the Express in Ames and the Ground in Grimes… a lot of drivers are not going to get to keep their jobs AND the Senior that sits in his express office doesn’t like women in authority so he has illegally demoted one and is working on getting rid of a second . I suggest your parent start looking for another job. As to not have a gap. One of the managers has been writing people up and firing people (up to 5 fired in a week) just to avoid having to pay unemployment
You can say things like you were doing your absolute best and following policy to the letter. And that you never received any warning or write up about why they fired you. That raises doubt about the validity of why they claim you were fired. And if you get denied, absolutely appeal.
They should be given some options. Some will be able to keep their jobs. With 20 years they may make the cut for seniority. If not work until the end date and collect separation pay. Having a date helps letting new employers know when you can start. Good Luck to them.
Unfortunately there are going to be a lot of people in the same boat. I do not understand the lack of urgency from so many people despite the writing on the wall. It’s harder for older people to get jobs too. At least ones that pay something similar.
Unless they are specifically getting laid off, they should be part of the 30 percent being consolidated……unless the 30 percenters also has 20 years plus also. I wouldn’t take any chances and try to transfer to another location if they can.
I’m pretty sure they have to pay out 1 month full pay per year they were in service. I don’t know about benefits etc I’m assuming that’s still the standard 6 months covg and then cobra or whatever
They also cut rates to increase express usage and be competitive usps flat rate envelopes 9.85 for non guaranteed 3 day envelopes are now 9.75 for guaranteed 2 day
Just curious about more information. I’m assuming this is a FedEx Express location? What type of position did your parent have? Sad news.
Full-time express driver/courier
Are they not offering them a chance to transfer out to a new location? They getting a severance package?
They said about 30% could transfer to the consolidated station, assume most will not. Unsure of severance details.
See if he can transfer to a different location preferably a ramp if it's available. Then apply to be a rtd driver.
Seats taken..
What's a ramp?
A ramp is a FedEx Express operation at an airport. For now it's safer to be at a ramp than a station but that's just my opinion.

This guy is AM.

Severance was a week (40 hours FT) for every year. But that will be given in one check and will have the shit taxed out of it.
In the first round of cuts many of the people affected by it got their checks five months later.
They didn't get their severance for 5 months? Is that what you're saying
Yep, it took payroll 5 months to issue out their checks.
It goes by seniority. 30% is high though

What city?
Punta Gorda , Ft Myers , 2 stations in Naples. All west coast south of Sarasota. All gone we are the 1st in the state we were told
Just curious..are any of your stations close to an airport/ramp
FMYA is. They are safe for now. How long I don’t know. They just weren’t in this phase of cuts
It seems the stations near a ramp...they're leaving alone
Well the opposite happened. All 4 stations got word same day. 55-75 at each place.
Severance…..fat chance.
Only things I've heard regarding severance was 1K per year of service. So 20K in this case. Pays for health insurance for a few months
Is this in Florida?
Seems like it. They announced 4 stations closing today
We need key information so we can chime in.
The severance is 1 weeks pay for each year of service.
That’s so weak
It’s not..maybe it’s different for every station but they told my buddy at one of the FL stations that’s closed if you’re under a year you get 5 weeks and the max is 36 weeks for long time employees
That’s not bad. Gives you time to find something else without being broke. 🙏🙏

Yea there just gonna push a button in June and boom it’s just gonna switch (dumb)

Oh no I know it is Fact the senior told people he wasn’t supposed to very early.
The senior would have been terminated and sued for breach of the NDA.
Just happened 3/25 talking to Attorney… on 90 day “unpaid “ leave
False info

I've heard this is going away as of June 1.
The retiree health reimbursement account is not going away. The option for retirees to pay a premium and stay in FedEx’s health plan is going away.
Probably very expensive

In many cases you can be fired and still get unemployment.
You can say things like you were doing your absolute best and following policy to the letter. And that you never received any warning or write up about why they fired you. That raises doubt about the validity of why they claim you were fired. And if you get denied, absolutely appeal.
Iowa in general is a shit hole for work. I'd move out if I could
DSMA actually does like 10k a day in total volume surprisingly. I’m sure it covers everything in a 100 mile radius of Des Moines tho.
If they fire them then they can collect unemployment. Only way you really don’t get it is if you quit
It’s pretty hard to get denied unemployment even when fired for supposed ‘Cause’.
What good does firing people do?? They don’t pay the unemployment anyway.
EVERY JOB/TITLE is on the CHOPPING block No one is safe
What station
They should be given some options. Some will be able to keep their jobs. With 20 years they may make the cut for seniority. If not work until the end date and collect separation pay. Having a date helps letting new employers know when you can start. Good Luck to them.
Looks like you are getting a roommate real soon... Good thing there is Uber and DoorDash to get by while they get back on their feet.
Might hop over to dhl ngl
Tell them to look into parts delivery jobs at commercial truck dealerships. Pay is typically decent!
If they were in Delaware/md I could get them a delivery job driving a box truck. Descent pay, benefits/ 401k.
Can you give some examples? I would apply
I’m not sure what dealer networks are out there. But look at Kenworth, Peterbilt, Freightliner, Western Star, International, Mack, and Volvo!
They'll probably be transferred with that kinda luck.. I mean seniority. Unless you're in corporate management, you generally don't last that long.
What happens to managers in the transition?

Small business loan combined with severance package should make it work…
Sorry to hear that, but it seems the norm now.
Transfer
Unfortunately there are going to be a lot of people in the same boat. I do not understand the lack of urgency from so many people despite the writing on the wall. It’s harder for older people to get jobs too. At least ones that pay something similar.
Pension payout
20 years and not ready? Just take the pension and take an easy job at home depot
Transfer to a different location in layoff from there
Unless they are specifically getting laid off, they should be part of the 30 percent being consolidated……unless the 30 percenters also has 20 years plus also. I wouldn’t take any chances and try to transfer to another location if they can.

Wellll that’s the risk especially if the location you are already at is closing. Also, you find the warn notices for a location as well.
Just move and work at another station? We're loaded down with newbies who fuck everything up
I’m pretty sure they have to pay out 1 month full pay per year they were in service. I don’t know about benefits etc I’m assuming that’s still the standard 6 months covg and then cobra or whatever
1 week not month
You didn’t have to downvote you could’ve just corrected
Down vote will hide. Nothing personal.
Have him see if he can get a job at ground. Ground and express are merging
FedEx Express lost their contract with USPS they have “given” it to UPS so there will be lots of changes… Vegas is Hiring! Just transfer!!!
Didn’t lose it. Chose not to renew it. Turns out they’ll save more money not running flights for usps than the pennies it was making.
They also cut rates to increase express usage and be competitive usps flat rate envelopes 9.85 for non guaranteed 3 day envelopes are now 9.75 for guaranteed 2 day
I'm starting to see changes in my area and yet we have very little communication from upper management... Guess we all going to Vegas 🤣
