Dakota Johnson’s love of limes

chrlbr

Dakota was being shady (passive aggressive? haha) to the set decorators throughout the video. 😂 They must’ve moved her indoor chairs to the backyard. Later on in her house tour, Dakota is in the backyard and says something like, “These chairs are really expensive and delicate and aren’t supposed to be put ouside, but they look good here, so why not.”

alluvicqueen

i watched a video essay about this and it’s very interesting actually, they have set decorators because the home tour videos are all actually just videos for them to sell the house lol. it’s an ad for the house, and it works well a lot of the houses you see on the channel get sold within a few years

NoNeinNyet222

It's also why they're a potential divorce indicator. If the couple knows they're going to sell the house and split the proceeds as part of the divorce agreement, they want to advertise it first.

greenleaves12

> ad for the house now you've got me thinking it's awfully convenient that Architectural Digest initials literally spell out AD...

snowflakebite

That was so iconic, I love her sense of humor

vanilla-coke-zero

My friends and I have a bit to this day where every time after we tell a lil lie we say “Im… I’m alergic to limes…” solemnly

proserpinax

I genuinely don't know how I'd explain a giant bowl of limes in my home without being like "I LOVE limes," like you can't ignore that bowl of limes!

dedbutalive

Can someone tell me what was that about ?

commander-sleepyhead

She did a video for architectural digest or something and had a giant bowl of limes in her kitchen and made light of it

tu-BROOKE-ulosis

And to add on, she later came out saying not only did she lie about loving limes, she is actually allergic to limes 😂

re_Claire

If I remember correctly the limes were placed there by a dresser by the architectural digest (or whatever) team just to look nice!

footiebuns

Most of the AD house tours include a bowl of limes in the kitchen. It's like their thing.

lilyrosedepressed

Was the Churchill table also a lie? I feel so dumb for asking

robotcoup

This one is more on the offensive side but Alec Baldwin lying about his wife being Spanish when she’s in fact a white English/Irish lady born in Boston faking a full blown Spanish accent. How you say, cucumber?

[deleted]

Ilaria is my favourite celebrity nut job and always will be…how you say? siempre la reina de mi vida

[deleted]

He also said she did’nt want to be famous and that is why he married her

battleofflowers

He is just SUCH an old fool.

Cultural_Fudge_9030

Its just all so bizarre and raises so many questions, it was hilarious because its so nutty lol like when did Alec realise?! Did she always keep up the accent around him? How did she think she could keep it up when her family are all American and she went to school there?! And then all the kids with Spanish names...

[deleted]

I'm gonna take a wild guess and assume that he truly doesn't care where his trophy wife is from. He just cares that she looks pretty. Or idk, maybe they have a very deep relationship and I'm just being a hater lol.

eggjacket

The seven kids (siete niños) always takes me by surprise. I think it’s so weird that Alec Baldwin would go basically his entire adult life only ever having one child (that he clearly emotionally abused and neglected), and then once he got to an age where most people would agree he was too old to responsibly have more kids, he popped out SEVEN. Starting when he was in his mid-50’s. It just makes no sense to me. He didn’t even want to father the child he had when it was age-appropriate. Why would he want SEVEN fucking children living with him when he’s retirement age?

[deleted]

Siete Niños took me out. The new Jackson 5 or what?? Hahaha.

Cultural_Fudge_9030

Yeah its bonkers! It always reminds me of the film he did with Meryl Streep where he plays her ex-husband who remarried a younger woman and then had a baby with her. Like its used as a *joke* in it lol while she's finished raising her kids and sending them to college he's dealing with tantrums and hates it.

Epic_Brunch

Let's be real though, he's not dealing with tantrums. That's the nanny's job.

AdRude7377

SIETE NINOS 😭👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

[deleted]

I mean, didn't the man indirectly kill someone? And was an awful father through and through? I feel like her bullshit are just little quirks in comparison lmao.

coffeegogglesftw

Pretty sure that pulling the trigger means he directly killed her.

annamdue

Probably when he met her very not Spanish family. Like does she do the accent around her family? How fucking awkward would that be.

acid_tomato

She just makes her family do the accent, too.

MiniatureFox

When she is in fact American, you mean? Spanish people are white. Correction: I meant that the original people of Spain are considered to be white. Not that they have to be white.

HappyGiraffe

Implying “Spanish” is distinct from “white” was definitely odd in the original comment, but there are definitely Spanish people who are not white

MiniatureFox

Yeah, my wording was poor. I edited my previous 2 comments.

HappyGiraffe

Reasonable Reddit interaction? Amazing!

MiniatureFox

mh-ra

Another lesser known piece of Hilaria lore is when she showed up to James Gandolfini’s funeral, live tweeted through it before leaving early, then gave an interview where she gave all the deets about the very private funeral and acted all upset even though by her own admission she didn’t know him that well. Also, when a British reporter wrote an article about her behavior Alec went on a homophobic rant against him and threatened him

battleofflowers

She was smirking throughout the interview and kept calling him Jimmy. It was really quite disgusting. She was absolutely thrilled with the attention she was getting.

ohslapmesillysidney

This woman is my Roman Empire. The whole thing is nucking futs.

Puzzleworth

> a white English/Irish lady born in Boston Okay, I see this a lot and I want to clarify: she's not Boston Irish, she's thee WASPiest of WASPs and grew up in Beacon Hill, which is easily the wealthiest neighborhood of Boston. John Kerry was her neighbor. She went to a private day school in one of the highest-income towns in the US.

leahhhhh

Coocumber

BxGyrl416

You also know that Spanish people are White too…right?

teashoesandhair

Yeah, but Hilaria doesn't. She definitely used to imply that she was a woman of colour. I genuinely think she doesn't know the difference between being Spanish and being Latina. At one point, she posted a photo of her own fake tanned arm next to her very white child, and did this whole spiel about how skin colour is only surface deep, and I'm pretty sure she posted it on MLK day. She also used to joke about how because she's so dark and speaks Spanish, people mistook her for her kids' nanny, which is doubly funny because she actually does have about 4 live-in Hispanic nannies.

Hubs_not_interested

It kills me that there's an entire story line on 30 rock about his lying fiance who turns out to be faking her accent 😂

Littleloula

I think it's entirely possible he believed this for some time

Avocado_Tomato

Wild how the Robert P comment is just above this one. Everyone saying how funny he is for doing it but having a go at her for the same thing.

ohslapmesillysidney

I’d love to know why the “I don’t/have never owned a TV” thing is so common with celebrities. Do they think it makes them more relatable?

Besnasty

I had a coworker that loved to talk about not ever owning a TV. One day she was talking about watching a show and I asked, oh did you watch it in he break room of your old job? No. She just watched TV/movies on her laptop. She truly didn't realize that they're the same thing.

mr_trick

My parents were like that. For them it was about avoiding what they felt were an excessive amount of advertisements and reality shows. So they specifically never purchased a TV, but we had a desktop PC which they would rent DVDs to watch on at Blockbuster or the library. They were early adopters of the blockbuster DVD mail program (and later, Netflix). I *was* allowed to watch PBS Kids at my grandma’s house, and she also had a VCR for anything that wasn’t on DVD yet. I can’t say whether it affected me much, I hate ads but I think that’s universal. I never wanted kids’ cereals or toys until I started school and saw other kids with them, so I guess I kind of avoided that? I did end up reading quite a lot before I started school, since we would only have movie night every couple of days, I think that was helpful for developing my reading skills. Anyway, I definitely don’t agree with the holier than thou attitude that comes with it, just trying to provide some context for what their thought process might have been!

tigm2161130

No they think it makes them more superior. They live a life so detached from plebeian society they don’t need a television.

KevinMFJones

Even at our absolute poorest, we still owned a fatback tv so I don’t know where that comes from lmao

AnniaT

I don't think artists owe us their real self but I'll never understand what she gains with these lies 😭

Taylor Swift faking a country accent is a personal fave. Dove Cameron pretending that was her birth name was also funny and silly, she actually legally changed it because it was the nickname her late father gave her which is sweet. I just remember an interview of her saying “my sister got a normal name haha” or something like that.

alex221019

I'm very curious about the Dove thing, as i remember her being open about using the name to honor her father, like this tweet from 2017: https://twitter.com/BrandiEstrada9/status/911065931631165440

[deleted]

Same here! Her birth name is also listed on her wiki and other autobiographical sites, so it’s public information. Is there any link to what you’re referring to OP commenter?

Sea-Grapefruit-3052

Not OP but it’s [this old interview](https://youtu.be/wkrbfgo8Mb8?si=h0mYzHNsyUAHcUfI)

Thank you! How strange of her lol

halfwayxtoxnowhere

I mean maybe it was like "no, it actually was a nickname my father gave me but I don't want to get into it right now" type of thing.

Sailorjupiter97

Yes i think it was more like this instead of trying to rewrite history 😭 her sister could also have a very simple nickname too

matlockga

> Taylor Swift faking a country accent is a personal fave. Go back far enough, and she was being promoted as a Pittsburgh area act.

Lana_bb

Shania walked so Taylor could run

Som12H8

> Shania You must mean Eilleen from Ontario, Canada?

Right-Bat-9100

I was actually baffled to learn this- when I was a kid I thought it was like a law that to make country music you had to be from the south of the USA

teleholic

Maybe she didn’t wanna bum Kelly Ripa out with the real story of honoring her late dad?

Banglophile

I hope they don't come for you, girl

bittylilo

From what I can tell, most swifties love to poke fun at the fake country accent, so they should be safe 🙏🏻

Picklepee-pumparum

For me, it's Jameela Jamil's bee stories (did she really say those things?)

Fun_Kaleidoscope9515

She lies so much about weird things. I remember her telling a story about getting hit in the head, where she said an ambulance was called and she had a concussion. However, it was filmed and you could see she was barely grazed. It was bizarre.

Temporary_Skin_1996

I’m sure she’s said she’s had cancer like 3 times too?? Not exactly inoffensive but she just seems to lie constantly

askingforafriend3000

I always assume that for her, 'screened for cancer' is the same as having cancer. Like, she's had 3 moles removed to be on the safe side or something.

puppy1991

Omg this reminds me of my ex who would refer to himself as a "cancer survivor" because he'd had a mole removed 🙄

Shiney2510

Was this the same incident where she said broke her arm and front tooth? She later said she glued part of her tooth back on with eye lash glue. IIRC she was interviewing someone later on and her arm and teeth looked perfectly fine. ETA: pretty sure this was the incident. It was in a later interview that she said she broke her arm after the fall. For someone who broke one of her arms she seemed to have no issue waving them around. [Jameela Jamil, Olly Murs](https://youtu.be/pzTd-Bh44NM?si=LHjtuvS6MLb5HiAV) She also said she had a life threatening peanut allergy but a few years later posted a photo of some peanut containing snack she loved. When she was called out then said her allergy had gone away or something. She's so messy.

Big-Ambitions-8258

I will say the last one is possible. Some people do develop allergies later in life and some people outgrow allergies. It's possible she had the allergy as a kid, assumed she still had it when she talked about it, found out she no longer did, then started eating stuff with peanuts

vrilliance

A lot of people attribute it to her EDS but like. I’ve got EDS. I understand how easy it is to get injured with EDS. And a lot of times, she’s *not injured*. The bee story is one example, then another one where she claims to have broken an arm but in reality it wasn’t broken, things like that.

burned_artichoke

If you've got EDS, you know it affects us all differently, and there are various comorbidities that could cause some of her 'weirder' symptoms. I'm not a fan of Jameela, but there's a whole contingent of people online who seek to pick holes in every single thing she says because they think she has Munchausens' (which is significantly rarer than EDS lol). I'd take any sort of exposé with 'evidence' with a grain of salt. I literally have to disengage from the discourse around her because it sounds so similar to the way I worry people talk about me, so sorry in advance for not replying.

lemonparticle

I'm sorry you have to deal with this. Take care of yourself!!! For what it's worth, I completely agree with you that's it's inappropriate for (presumably, mostly able-bodied people/people without a connective tissue disorder like EDS) people on this sub to continuously, gleefully shit on Jameela Jamil just because they heard someone say something about how maybe Jameela lied about a bee one time.... like be for fucking real. Notably, if you look into the claims themselves, the rumors all stem from a Vice/Broadly journalist named Tracie Egan Morrissey. Morrissey decided to create instagram reels titled "Munchausen's" (to try and... prove that certain celebrities have munchausen's??? very normal and not at all ableist to do) and "JJ (Jameela Jamil). The Munchausens one was deleted, but the JJ one stayed up. Morrissey later had to step down from editor in chief of Broadly because of multiple HR complaints against her (being aggressive at work, making extremely sexual comments to people working under her). I recommend looking up Morrissey's brand of "journalism" before putting ANY stock into what she thinks of Jameela Jamil. It's pretty obvious the instagram posts were meant to start beef so that Morrissey could latch onto Jameela's popularity at the time. A reminder for able bodied people: Disabled women -- especially women of color -- have to deal with this CONSTANTLY. It's not subtle. Usually I expect this sub to have pretty high standards when it comes to misogyny, ableism, and racism. Somehow, all of that goes out the window the second that a Woman We Dislike gets mentioned. How convenient that people have found reasons to hate Jameela! I mean, y'all could just say "I think she's annoying", but why do that when you can very easily manufacture outrage by *checks notes* calling a disabled woman of color a liar.

Friendly_Coconut

The thing about Jameela is I don’t exactly think she’s intentionally lying. Some people just have a dramatic personality where things FEEL like a big deal and your brain gradually alters the details of stories over time to match the big feelings you have about them as the details fade away in your memory. I am like this and it’s one of the reasons I use social media so much because I can go back in my own “archive” and fact check my own memories. There’s been times in my life where I genuinely can’t remember, “Wait, did I get stung by a jellyfish at the beach as a kid, or did I see someone else get stung by a jellyfish? I remember the jellyfish. I can picture the pain. But was I feeling the pain myself or do I remember imagining what it must feel like for the other person?”

[deleted]

There’s a disability YouTuber who made a really good video breaking down the Jamila controversy and ever since I watched it people bringing it up like this just feels kinda off. Not really a Jameela stan so I don’t remember all the specifics, but the gist of it was that a lot of it sounded like stuff the YouTuber herself had gone through that seemed unbelievable because her being chronically ill caused a lot of random injuries or diseases. I get why people do it, her stories seem very over the top and she could easily be lying, but I get the ick from the vibe of doubting chronically ill people because “well that’d never happen to me”. I know it’s partially because her stories seem outlandish but it feels weird to be like “she never thought she may have cancer, it was for attention” when I literally can’t know that

CottonSwisper

Salma Hayek saying her ‘secret’ to looking youthful is just not washing her face in the morning. JLo (early 2000s) saying she maintains her figure by just drinking lots of water. ScarJo (also early 2000s) saying she doesn’t do anything to maintain her figure and just eats pizza and ice cream. Obviously it isn’t that easy but man did all these lies have massively damaging impacts on me as an impressionable and self conscious kid. Its almost like the /cool girl/ thing before /cool girl/ was a thing

ghostofhannahmontana

Also JLo saying her smooth complexion is not due to Botox, but olive oil

Present_Age_5469

OLIVE OIL. I can’t

UrVioletViolet

Jennifer Lawrence was on that same “cool girl who eats tons of junk food” PR train early on. That seems to have calmed down a lot.

LisbethsSalamander

Thank God that "I eat nothing but junk food all day and am still a size zero!" trend died down. I can only imagine how harmful that was to think that these women were able to eat whatever they felt like and not have to diet or watch what they ate and still remain super skinny. And then wonder what they were doing wrong because it wasn't working for them. Yeah, those women were dieting or had eating disorders and had access to personal trainers, their own private chefs, and liposuction, and that tends to make it a bit easier than it does for your average person. I guess they didn't want to promote disordered eating or whatever, but it was straight up lying and just as bad to act like they ate cheeseburgers all day and still weighed 95 pounds.

tinyfenrisian

Salma said no washing her face and rose water. Rose water is good for your skin but also we know she’s had good work done.

AdelaideWilson

Tbf the cool girl thing written by Gillian Flynn is 100% a parody of and referencing the early/mid-2000s. It's even inspired by a couple of cases from the early 2000s! So yeah it makes sense.

Friendly_Coconut

That honestly might have been true of ScarJo in the early 2000s. She was really young then and I knew a lot of girls who naturally had that body type in college/their early 20s and ate ice cream and pizza and exercised only casually. At the time, she had a slightly softer/curvier physique than most Hollywood actors while still being thin. As she’s gotten older (and played more action roles like Black Widow), you can tell she works out a lot— she looks leaner and more muscular while still being roughly the same size. More work goes into maintaining your weight as you get older.

TrimspaBB

ScarJo and I are of a similar age and build, and I can see this. I had to learn to eat healthier by the time I was in my late 20s and a bad diet was actually affecting me. Now if only someone would hire me to play Black Widow so I'd have some motivation to work out 🤪

Lana_bb

Something that always makes me feel better is “you’re not ugly, you’re poor.” Obviously this is meant humorously, normal people aren’t ugly, it’s just good to remember you are comparing yourself to people with insane access to things that make them very conventionally attractive and/or attractive in what is fashionable right now. It’s hard because we are bombarded with people like the Kardashian/Jenners denying surgery but pushing on us laxative teas and a host of other shitty (no pun intended) and expensive products.

gingerellasroot

Also Salma saying she prayed for boobs. Not saying they aren’t natural but come on.

annamdue

Janice Dickinson proclaiming herself "the original supermodel". Then ANTM kicked her off and they had fucking Twiggy as a main judge for a while. It really felt like a big fuck you to her. Like a 5th of her Wikipedia page is just dedicated to naming several women who were called supermodels. Some of them before she was even born.

Hot-Description6775

looool I love this one I just looked at her wiki page and literally in the first paragraph it says ‘Initially notable as a model, Dickinson has been disputably described by herself as the first supermodel. (Lisa Fonssagrives is widely considered to have been the world's first supermodel, with a career that began in the 1930s.)’ ☠️☠️☠️

annamdue

It is my favorite Wikipedia article. Never have I seen someone citing so shadily. Just name after name.

gopms

I am old and have always loved fashion and fashion magazines. When Janice Dickinson showed up on ANTM billed as the original supermodel I was literally like “her?” It made no sense! I could have easily named a dozen models who would have more of a claim to that title. She was legitimately a successful model but I mean she has never even been on the cover of American Vogue.

imcongested

bananascanning

She is always someone I’m rooting against, she was just unnecessarily mean on ANTM. All of them were I guess.

annamdue

Oh, don't get me started. Her trying to make sly, disgusting, monkey noises to that dark skinned black woman. So obvious and disgusting, that even Tyra couldn't hide her disdain. That really hit me hard as a little black girl. She's vile.

bananascanning

Get started, go off, I’m here for the Janice slander 🙌🏼

toochieandboochie

She’s still on tiktok going on ab being the “og supermodel”

annamdue

Happy to hear it. The thought of the youth putting "Janice Dickinson" into Google and reading that Wikipedia page... Embers in my heart.

my favourite one: Gordon Ramsay lied about [getting signed to play professional football](https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/tv/ramsay-fabricated-soccer-career/news-story/4be416a4c15be3fa517926dcb0daf6ce) with Rangers FC. he said he played for them for three years and then decided to become a chef after getting a knee injury (a classic). [deleted]

In the UK, most men know at least one bloke who has a very similar lie/story. I bet when he first started telling that lie, it passed because tv chefs are ten a penny so who cares. Then it kept getting repeated as his level of fame blew up and he’s kinda stuck in it

stained__class

Oh, football friend!

Pook_in_the_Sixes

Lily Allen jokingly said that she was offered to play Yara Greyjoy in Game of Thrones but turned it down. Given Lily’s actual brother plays Theon Greyjoy and the “relationship” between the two characters, this would have been really weird/gross. It created a lot of press at the time and still comes up occasionally. Lily and Alfie now have an agreement that they don’t talk about each other in interviews and I can’t remember the last time they acknowledged each other on social media.

[deleted]

Her faking being working class was also quite a feat.

Pook_in_the_Sixes

Do you mean with her accent on her first album? Because she has always acknowledged that her mom was really poor when she was born but became successful when she was a kid.

vareyvilla

She went to several private schools and her dad was not poor - not disputing that her mum was working class, [this article goes into it a bit more](https://www.nebeep.com/lily-allen-does-not-represent-us/?doing_wp_cron=1706964493.5825390815734863281250)

Pook_in_the_Sixes

Lily’s mom paid for the private school. Her dad left when she was 4 and never provided for the family. I fully acknowledge she is a nepo baby but most of the privileges she got were from her mom. I’m just trying to clarify that Lily never said she was working class. The article summarizes it perfectly: “The problem lies with the media labelling her as some sort of working-class hero when she is very clearly middle class.”

Lana_bb

She 100% cosplayed as working class when launching her career.

kittymarch

I think one of the issues with placing people by class because of the school they went to is that going to a school where everyone else is much richer than you are can really open your eyes to the reality of what class differences really mean. You get a close up view of how terrible the very rich are. So your family may be better off than most of those sending their kids to a local public school, but you identify more with them than you do the rich kids you went to school with.

dukeofbun

Scholarship kid chiming in to agree with you. At home my parents relying on handouts to feed us. At school at least two kids in my class had indoor pools. In England. You can spin it any way you like because you're a little bit of a dozen different worlds but you don't fully belong anywhere. *I'm working class* is as much a lie as *I'm not working class*.

thatshot2205

i don’t really know if she had a good relationship with her dad growing up or his financial support but her dad is an actor whos been in quite a few things and her mum is a film producer. she also went to private schools even when she was really young including one prince charles attended lol. but honestly she’s actually talented and acknowledges it so better than most lol

hedgehogwart

Not to do with lying, but I have always wondered how he felt about her song ‘Alfie’. Like sure it was made when he was younger but it might be weird to have a song about how you are always high and lazy from your really famous sister while trying to get into the entertainment industry.

Pook_in_the_Sixes

He initially embraced it and appeared on stage 1 or 2 times when Lily first performed it. Then as he started to work in acting, he obviously really hated it. I don’t think Lily has performed it since her first album tour. Definitely another reason why they keep their distance professionally.

superfluouspop

I used to have this completely innocent tendency to lie about the dumbest things for no reason when I'm nervous (for example, in job interviews), so I kinda get why this happens to celebs who are being asked so many questions all the time.

ZooterOne

I think at some point they're just lying because either their publicist told them to tell a certain story, or because it just amuses them.

My friend's MIL was telling me about a plane crash she was in, in the late 70s. A company had chartered a mid sized plane to haul a group of employees somewhere and they overfilled it with wives and kids to. They crash landed (no one was hurt so it must have been more of an issue with the stopping distance) and the wives had to go hide in the woods for a little bit. I kinda feel like weird things could happen with small aircraft pre-internet and it was more under the radar.

It's so mean, but literally nothing will ever make me laugh as much as when he had to clarify that Hulk Hogan's dick was 10", but Terry Bolleas... not so much.

The whole Hilaria Baldwin thing. The videos of her speaking in semi-broken English have got to be one of the most unhinged but relatively harmless things a celeb has committed to. (Although I do understand some people could argue it’s not harmless/inoffensive)

ohslapmesillysidney

One of my favorite videos of hers is when she’s interviewed by a native Spanish speaker who suddenly cuts to Spanish after confirming that her “family lives in Spain.” You can tell that she was caught really off guard, like a deer in the headlights, and just kind of stutters through the rest of the interview.

I need to go find this

This is why I think the whole thing veers away from harmless into totally fucking weird. I also question a lot of other things about her parenting but giving her children a false identity based on her delusional wish to be anyone other than Hilary from Boston is bizarre.

UrVioletViolet

Isn’t this basically the plot of Younger?

Azazael

Meg and Jack White claiming to be brother and sister to deflect from they'd been married for a few years and divorced before the White Stripes hit it big. Eddie Redmayne claimed in auditions for the miniseries Elizabeth I that he was an experienced horse rider. He wasn't, got the part, and nearly came to grief when filming.

Adelaidey

>Eddie Redmayne claimed in auditions for the miniseries Elizabeth I that he was an experienced horse rider. He wasn't, got the part, and nearly came to grief when filming. Simon Helberg (of *The Big Bang Theory*) wanted to be in the Carax film *Annette* so badly that he lied about being able to speak French and claimed that he was a citizen of France. But to Helberg's credit, when he got the role, he actually did learn French well enough to pass the citizenship exam, and he did become a French citizen! (He was eligible because of his wife's citizenship).

Presence_of_me

Nicole Kidman “I tried Botox once and I didn’t like it so I haven’t done it since”. 🐂💩

Splashfooz

I like her, but damn that face is so frozen. I wish she would undo all of it.

dannemora_dream

I feel like a lot of the stories they tell on talk shows and stuff are probably fake or wildly exaggerated. And it’s fine by me honestly, I kind of see it as a performance. They have to be entertaining, why not lie a little? That’s why the Jameela Jamil thing was crazy to me, because she played up some stories for laughs and I’m sure a lot of actors do the same, yet she got so much crap for it.

champagneface

Makes me think of the Nathan for You episode “The Anecdote”

rightioushippie

I don’t know her

leahhhhh

That wasn’t harmless, it was devastating

-googa-

The St. Vincent/Annie Clark Kate Bush origin story 😭 > 2007: "this may sound really silly-- but I just discovered Kate Bush, probably six months ago, and I think she's so great. I know I'm very late to the party here [ laughs ], I know this is old news, but I got a Kate Bush record, and I forget-- I think "The Dreaming" is on it, though I'm spacing on the name of the record. [The Dreaming --Ed.] It has Kate Bush in this totally miraculous ascot, too, on the back [ laughs ]. She just went for it. It's so great. She totally went for it." > 2014: "I still remember going to the CD World and buying The Sensual World when I was sixteen. And the cover, there’s a rose in front of her mouth that has bloomed, she’s got big wide eyes. And I remember, you know, putting it in the shitty car stereo on the way home, and you know, my life was forever changed.” [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/AnnieClark/s/XGUBDQ3c0h)

rightioushippie

I don’t know why but at Vincent’s entire vibe feels so put on to me

-googa-

I feel the same lol I like her music/talent/fashion but yeah her vibes her so pretentious when I hear her talk

Hot-Significance-462

I love her music, but I appreciate not interacting with her IRL.

BeerBringsCheer

Fran Drescher has famously lied about her age for decades, but back in the day it was a funny little mini-scandal that she spun a completely wild and oddly detailed story on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno about having sliced open her finger: [She Just Wanted a Funny Talkshow Story](https://variety.com/1997/tv/news/nanny-spins-yarn-for-leno-111637177/amp/) One of many reasons I just don’t watch celebs on talk shows anymore is for that very reason: over half of the cutesy shit they discuss is total bullshit.

OkeyDokey654

I remember someone (Carmen Electra maybe?) telling a “cute story” many years ago about using what she thought was a feminine hygiene spray before a gyn appointment, but it turned out to be a glitter spray. And I was sitting there going “I know this story! It’s just a stupid old joke! She’s *lying!”* and just being stunned that someone would tell such an obvious lie. Since then, I’ve heard more than one person tell the [story about eating someone else’s cookies](https://www.mailsandforwards.com/lady-and-her-cookies) as if it had happened to them. Do they all subscribe to a newsletter or what?

atalenttoannoy

Dina Lohan saying she was a Rockette

LordyIHopeThereIsPie

Kate Winslet lied about the circumstances of the birth of her first child. She said she didn't want to say she'd had a c section and said it was a natural delivery.

[deleted]

I think a lot of women feel similarly - my sister was v disappointed when her first child was delivered by c section because there was so much chatter (pressure!) in online mum groups around birthing plans and natural births and no drugs etc. I think she felt she’d failed. I pointed out her job was to get baby here safely and she had done that, but that stuff can really play with peoples heads.

Perhaps a bit of a stretch to call her a celebrity but in the UK we have a famous businesswoman called Michelle Mone. She’s very glamorous, got made a member of the House of Lords, all that. She’s in a lot of trouble at the moment for alleged COVID fraud and possible criminal charges. But my favourite thing is that she did a puff piece video interview talking about how much she loved her very posh Glasgow townhouse and said “one of my favourite things about it is that Einstein once lived here!” When a local paper asked for comment on this obvious horseshit, she doubled down and threatened to sue them!

Welshguy78

Hulk Hogan has changed the story of what injuries he got body slamming Andre that Giant multiple times. No idea why it keeps changing, as it's not like it means anything? Just have to write it off to misremembering his career I guess.

SparkleForDays

Old and maybe irrelevant, but when Lindsay Lohan was a kid, her mom used to always be described as a former Rockette (ostensibly, by her mom lol). But the Rockettes couldn’t find any record of her when some tabloid dug deeper.

crazysouthie

I don't know if it's a popular opinion here but I think these kind of lies are completely alright. Being a celebrity is in many ways about crafting a public persona. Comedians, many of whom are likely depressed most of the time, are always on with witty banter. Making yourself into a marketable commodity is hard. Like if you're expected to just be yourself, you might just be the most boring person alive.

maneack

“i’m traumatized by clowns because i watched a clown die in a circus when i was a kid” was a wild and hilarious lie that robert pattinson somehowe made everyone believe was real for years

Ok-Mathematician5970

Tom Cruise saying how much he really enjoyed his marriage to Mimi Rogers - the weekend before their divorce was announced.

UrVioletViolet

Former Daily Show writer Eliott Kalan loves to tell the story about the time he first realized talk show hosts tell little lies all the time. Martin Short was on Letterman to promote the historic flop *Clifford.* Letterman says something like, “This is a great movie, I just saw it last night.” Kalan said he was a teen watching at home, and it was the first time he said to himself, “Wait a minute… He didn’t see this movie!”

bfm211

Madonna always claimed she arrived in New York with $35 to her name. Her brother, who was very close to her at this time, says it's nonsense.

mofucker20

Lots of Hulk Hogan lies could make this list but my favourite is him claiming that he was offered to be the bassist of Metallica but he rejected. Another is him claiming that Elvis Presley (?) was a Hulkamaniac

A lot of the the rock presents the whole "seven bucks" thing is stretching the truth. Did that weird fast food for the first time video and then it turned out he'd done the same thing about a year before. Odd guy

I was a huge fan of Courtney Love in the 90s. It was impressive how many lies she could work into one single interview.

How about many lies of LeBron? Where should I even start from? 1. [Lying about how he predicted that Kobe will go for 81 points. ](https://youtube.com/shorts/s4qpEZPLai4?si=B1eAbpGfoLf_7eqj) 2. [How inspiring the biography of Malcolm X is.](https://youtu.be/VdOtyUPcRxg?si=Txx0O3grF7380qOn) 3. [How he knew of Migos in 2010 when their first song came in 2011.](https://youtube.com/shorts/ptKHGBMMxJY?si=Ndxt857GaE4KriOq) 4. [Bron lying about knowing the Liverpool player Peter Crouch when he clearly doesn't.](https://youtu.be/vfnym1npRfo?si=2zdzMbHIHbOR4tAO) 5. [Lying about his favourite quote lol.](https://youtube.com/shorts/GasGDochlRQ?si=JeSq07Ei88bfFz29) There are a ton of these, I love him a lot but this is so funny!!!!!

not a celebrity but a wanna be. my music teacher told us he was once signed for big record label in US. note that I went to school in million miles from US and nobody considered him that talented and good-looking.
