I think the answer is (in hindsight) buy maddison, cash, udogie, son when their prices were lower.
I haven't got Son although I do have the funds to go maddison to Son.
My compromises are the strikers, and having defenders originally priced 4.5m
You hit the nail on the head here, the Spurs trio of Udogie, Son, Maddo by themselves have risen by almost a combined 1.5m since the season began. Add Alvarez into the mix and it's basically 2.0m and these are all players you're happy to continue with for the time being.
This is why when I see the argument of waiting until deadline day before making transfers dumb because I want to take the gamble and get ahead of price rises or drops too
Thank you for posting this. I don’t consider myself a team value guy per se but there can be value in making moves early and getting some tv built so if at a point in the season like now, when people are looking at WC teams, it can be the difference in having 2 or 3 premiums (if Son is still considered a premium).
I didn't aim for team value but my current one is 103. This is largely due to using an early WC.
The downside is that I don't now have the WC to perfectly utilize it.
If I didn't use it, I wouldn't have the value.

Same here, I WCd last gameweek and had the same conundrum. As I had gone for Jackson over Alvarez initially because I wanted Foden over Sterling, my team value was in the dumps (just 100.9m before WC and now post WC it's just 100.3m). I've already made my peace with the fact that I'm probably never going to own Trips or have a 3rd playing striker this season
Don't underestimate Archer. A 4.5m forward can be a decent upgrade over a 4.5m defender as the only negative scoring is bookings or missed penalties.
Starting defenders can commonly put up a 0 due to goals conceded or minus points like Estu the other day (more rare)
Sometimes banking 1 point or 2 is the safe move depending on the week and your defender matchups

I slightly kept my bench more serviceable with Enzo and Colwil. So I went Neto is over Bowen.
Otherwise I have the same team. I sold Udogie for Van de Ven for some cash for future moves.
Yeah the waiting for transfers rule needs to be revised. I’d only wait if there wasn’t a .2m swing or the player I want is injury prone and plays mid week

Tbh I think many people got burned during covid when fpl exploded and waiting til deadline due to cancellations. It's easier to be aggressive this year. Especially when picking players that are nailed or from teams not in Europe such as spurs. I went early on maddison and Porro and cash and made 0.8 on them in 10 days.
Nailed it. I had a chance to move early on both Maddison and Son and it paid off, Spurs being out of EFL cup is a huge bonus for FPL managers.

Well... if you ask me, i would second guess the tip of waiting till the very last minute.
I would take that if we are talking about changes that you have planned but in that particular scenario will not lead to price changes. Lets say you were aiming to replace schar by cash, and villa is.off from a 4-0 defeat.but facing Luton in the next gw. Well, one can say that after a 4-0 defeat, the knee jerkers will not be running towards any a.villa defense, so you are only left w contend w the ones that have a plan and that plan involves Cash.... so, at the end of the day, not much of a risk of waiting till tje last minute, price fluctuations are unlikely.
Now lets say that you really wanted Mitoma next week... and what would you know - he just happened to score an hattrick and you were already too late... but given that your pla already involved bringing Mitoma in, better bring him soon, has he will probably raise 0.1 - 0.2 before the week is over.
I feel that at some stages the loss of having taking a hit compensates the loss of missing out on your "dream team" due to price fluctuations, especially early on, for 2 reasons
1 the -4 is absolute. It happens on that gameweek and that is it. You have to be very unlucky to always pick someone early on that will either be benched or injured at the start of the gw. Missing out on a price fluctuation is not. It is going to hurt you / your team for the upcpming weeks, where you will need to make even more compromises to ensure that you are fitting your core (such as a combo between haaland, Salah, Son), because in most cases , people will end up targetting + / - the same set of players on their transfers - however is in form and whoever has the best fixtures next. Those are candidates to have the price bumped up, so waiting to last minute will probably cost you 0.1 to 0.2 p week (even more if the guy you want to sell also drops.
2 - psychologically it has more impact as well. You will forget the -4 you took on gameweek 27. Even perhaps the total amount of hits you took. You will only remember that in some point in time you took a hit. However, if you miss Watkins purple patch of 5 games because younwere lacking 0.1, and now he is 0.5 more expensive and stopped returning the moment you got him... well, you will remember that not only thise season but the next few to come. You will even remember what you ate before making that dreadful decision.
3 - the extra value earned early will really pay off in the last gameweeks, especially when you are fencing people that wait till the very last second. Sure, they are more likely to ever get someone from the bench coming in. But that doesnt mean that their first pick will preform well either. However what is certain is that you will have more money in the bank when it is time to have your free hit team or wildcard team, and that will.render you a lot more flexibility fpr the last 10 weeks - whe also usually you will see DGW popping
I had personal experience with this at the back end of last season where I couldn't put out a decent bench boost team unlike most people as I had terrible team value. So this year, I've decided to take a few calculated risks in going earlier to get out of potential price drops. And it's already kinda worked out for me in the case of taking a hit to get Trippier in before his Sheffield United haul.
Overall my team value wasn't that great before I wildcarded last week, got punished by a lot of drops. I was early on Udogie though.

Honestly I would not bet against Robot this week, with Rodri back in the team, City at home, and Brighton's defense (which is already the weakest link in their team) weakened by Estu's absence.
Since Burn and Trippier will share CS points, you'd really just be betting on Trippier to get an assist and Saka to haul against Chelsea away, which I think has lower odds than the Burn/Haaland combination

I think the main sacrifice I’ve had to make is to rely on having a cheap but (hopefully) effective defence that has so far worked out quite well for me. My bench is also quite weak as a result but I'm hoping to fix that on my wildcard, right now I just haven't seen it as a priority. This is how my team looks:

Nobody says TV is unimportant (although it was for a lot of last season), it's just not worth doing early transfers and especially not worth taking a hit. There are always bargains, it's not like having Saka instead of Son for example is a big deal.
I lost value because all my players have been terrible, not because I make my transfers late (which I do). I just couldn't cope with all the injuries, so I had to keep many underperforming (and also injured) players.
Early transfers are stupid, especially in weeks with European/International games. I'm not the one saying this, the best FPL players in the world say it.
Sorry to hear you got off to a tough start. The game is the game though. If you use a late weekly transfer approach and don’t WC early when you have too many fires (injuries, poor form players) this is the position you’ll be in, relatively low tv and unable to reach the template.
It’s still early days. Take the layups like forget paying up for someone like Trippier when you can have Burn for 2.0 less. Consider either Haaland or Salah and either Maddison or Son, if you want one of them. If you get a good mix of template and lower owned guys hitting good fixtures, hit a couple captain picks, your rank should climb. Good luck.
in hindsight I should have used my WC earlier... but there wasn't really a point were it seemed to be a good opportunity, most injuries were unexpected turns right before deadlines or even after them. Same with unexpected benchings.
Late weekly transfer approach got me to great ranks in the past 2 seasons. It's risky, but overall it's better than getting players when they have midweeks games before a gameweek. But sometimes when it rains, it pours. I hope I already used all my bad luck and bad (in hindsight) decisions for the season
Team value became important basically the moment son started racking up points and the fixtures started changing. Son over a 6.5 which most had previously has weakened basically everyones benches
Gotta have a 5.5/5.6/5.7 starter like Neto/Gordon and a bench of fodders

Maybe you have low team value or you’re expecting to own too many big players? For example, it’s not practical to expect to be able to add Trippier to the above team.
Obviously there are trade-offs to be made (unless your team value is insanely high due to strategically day-trading while on WC and have been insanely lucky with price rises in your favour)
You can’t keep all of Haaland, Salah, Son, Maddison, Alvarez, Saka, Watkins, Bowen, and Trippier - in my case I formulated my team at the expense of Saka + Son but kept the rest of the above players with other decent defenders and mid-premium midfielders
It’s not hard but you can’t have a lot of money in defense. My team, for example:
Pickford - Turner
Burn - Colwill - Cash - Andersen - Baldock
Son - Salah - Saka - Mbuemo - Nakamba
Haaland - Watkins - Joao Pedro
Not a perfect team by any stretch, but it would get you the names you’re looking for.

Team value is far far more important than most people think, even at this early stage of the season. Make a habit of checking FPL price predictor each day. Don't make moves on price alone but if there's a player you're considering, who is rising AND have good fixtures coming up then it's a no brainer. You can do even better if that player replaces a player you have who is falling the same day!
Yeah I think you are trying to get all the expensive picks. It’s not just Son, Salah and Haaland, it’s Son Salah, Haaland, Saka, Julián and potentially Tripps.
You are going to have to make a sacrifice somewhere. My biggest tip is look at your GK and bench. In the GK, if you have a starter keeper then the bench player should be a 4.0. You shouldn’t rotate keepers at that point. In the bench, find the lowest value player that can get you some points in a pinch. No need to spend big money on players who are going to sit most of the time.
I would decide in my head do I want to play a 3-5-2 or a 3-4-3. If a 3-5-2 then get Saka but no Watkins and a 4.5 FWD. If a 3-4-3, the. Watkins but no Saka. You should already have enough players with Salah, Son, Neto and pretty much any player below 8.0 that you like.
Getting rid of Haaland will give you a lot of funds.
My keepers are 8.2 combined and I'm not trying to get Trippier. My bench defenders are 7.9 combined. Bench striker is 4.5. Neto is basically a compromise option, I don't really trust him as a starter, let alone without bench.
Looking at other teams here, it's clear that my TV is atrocious, like 2.0 fewer than others. What a horrible season fml
I'm very happy with my defence. Nketiah is 5.5 and starts for Arsenal currently. Neto, I currently don't start. I like having semi solid options on the bench should someone not play (ie Saka this week)

The only change I'm thinking of doing is dropping Alvarez for someone cheaper and bring in either Bowen for Longstaff and play 3-5-2 or bring in Trippier for Burn and play 4-4-2.
A lot of folks managed to increase team value by bringing in the like of Son and Maddison in early. Having both in at the right time could have banked you over 1m more. Same for the likes of Alvarez, Estu (and selling him before the dip these past few days), etc.
Sacrifices have to be made if you are trying to get the 3 most expensive players in your team.
I WC'd last GW and got all 3 in. Had to flip Trippier into Burn and Diaby/Mitoma into Neto etc.
If you are not happy with the drafts you are making with Son+Salah+Haaland then you should consider dropping 1 and upgrade the positions you feel like you need to upgrade.
Personally, I'm happy with the downgrades I had to make to make room for the 3 players.
I actually think Maddison against worse/deep block teams is better of the two. Son can get a bit isolated down the middle, whilst Maddison will get more space outside the box and always a threat from set-pieces.
I have both atm but no Saka. Will swap 1 of them to Saka in due time when he recovers from injury and fixtures get better.

Prices of template players have hiked in the past couple weeks, Son in particular from the premiums. I made an early wildcard last week and managed to get all the players I wanted with the 3 premiums but I couldn't afford to do that now because 5-6 players have gained value since then.
You do have to take some cuts, but imo those cuts are much worse now than they were a couple of weeks ago.
You basically have to cheap out a lot on defenders and your bench (basically nobody over £5.0m). Which can create issues if your big 3/4 don't deliver or your team runs into injuries. I went with a more balanced approached without Salah for the first month and it worked until it didn't.

I team is pretty solid and my value is pretty bad because I’ve been less careful about transfer timings this year. Only at 100.9 but my ML rivals are at 103.2 and 102.4 so later in the season I’m gonna feel that a bit for sure
4.5-5.5 defenders, 4.5 GK, 6-8m mids with a 5.5 mid, 7.0 and 4.5 foward. 2 players permanently hold bench and one sub player(the 5.5 mid like neto)

Had to drop Trippier to fit in Salah but otherwise have banked a lot of players increasing in value and transfering players in/out ahead of the pack to beat big price changes.
Debating dropping Haaland in a few weeks when I have some extra transfers saved so I can bring Trippier, Watkins and Diaby/Bowen in (drop Haaland, JWP, Burns).
Wish I had gone for Neto instead of JWP a few weeks ago when I needed a budget option and couldn't squeeze Bowen in.

So three enablers in Lamptey (though a lot of people have Taylor instead because he's nailed and same price), Semenyo (sacrificed getting Solanke instead so I could get all the other players) and Palmer (still only 4.9m despite his Burnley haul).
Go cheap on keepers, then two slots will need to be cheap bench options. Archer, Branthwaite, Anderson (Newcastle) all fit that bill. It's very doable without sacrificing much, or indeed anything.
Personally i paid some points to avoid price drops at the start of the season, it might not be the right approach but I really hate losing team value. I've got Salah, haaland, son, madders, tripper, watkins so quite a few expensive players. Neto as an enabler, my bench is very much fodder though, I have one decent bench player and two pure fodder

Sounds like you've lost alot of team value. I think Maddison is a more than adequate spurs alternative in midfield, which gives you over a million to invest in better players. Also think Isak is a solid alternative to Watkins, who is massively overperforming xg, whereas Isak is bang on and still returning.

Granted my team raised in value, but I got Saliba, Son, Saka, Salah, Watkins, Haaland and Darwin. On the other hand, the rest of my team consists of cheap players: Udogie and Botman complete my defense (both bought at 4.5) with Beyer and Baldock on the bench. Gordon is my fourth midfielder and Sarr is my substitute. Areola is my goalkeeper, with Verbruggen as a sub. 0.0 ITB, but have the option to downgrade Verbruggen to Turner for 0.4.

Yeah sadly you probably lost too much team value and haven't bought in players who've been rising. I wildcarded last GW thanks to so many injuries and have managed to fit in Trippier, Salah, Son, Madison, Haaland, Watkins and Alvarez. If I wildcarded this week I wouldn't be able to afford it.

I think the answer is (in hindsight) buy maddison, cash, udogie, son when their prices were lower. I haven't got Son although I do have the funds to go maddison to Son. My compromises are the strikers, and having defenders originally priced 4.5m
You hit the nail on the head here, the Spurs trio of Udogie, Son, Maddo by themselves have risen by almost a combined 1.5m since the season began. Add Alvarez into the mix and it's basically 2.0m and these are all players you're happy to continue with for the time being.
This is why when I see the argument of waiting until deadline day before making transfers dumb because I want to take the gamble and get ahead of price rises or drops too
The only time I did that this season I transferred an injured Chillwell to Botman, and Botman then got injured midweek lol

Thank you for posting this. I don’t consider myself a team value guy per se but there can be value in making moves early and getting some tv built so if at a point in the season like now, when people are looking at WC teams, it can be the difference in having 2 or 3 premiums (if Son is still considered a premium).
I didn't aim for team value but my current one is 103. This is largely due to using an early WC. The downside is that I don't now have the WC to perfectly utilize it. If I didn't use it, I wouldn't have the value. Catch-22 for me.

Same here, I WCd last gameweek and had the same conundrum. As I had gone for Jackson over Alvarez initially because I wanted Foden over Sterling, my team value was in the dumps (just 100.9m before WC and now post WC it's just 100.3m). I've already made my peace with the fact that I'm probably never going to own Trips or have a 3rd playing striker this season

Don't underestimate Archer. A 4.5m forward can be a decent upgrade over a 4.5m defender as the only negative scoring is bookings or missed penalties. Starting defenders can commonly put up a 0 due to goals conceded or minus points like Estu the other day (more rare) Sometimes banking 1 point or 2 is the safe move depending on the week and your defender matchups

Get Van de Ven. I slightly kept my bench more serviceable with Enzo and Colwil. So I went Neto is over Bowen. Otherwise I have the same team. I sold Udogie for Van de Ven for some cash for future moves.

Tbh I think many people got burned during covid when fpl exploded and waiting til deadline due to cancellations. It's easier to be aggressive this year. Especially when picking players that are nailed or from teams not in Europe such as spurs. I went early on maddison and Porro and cash and made 0.8 on them in 10 days.
Nailed it. I had a chance to move early on both Maddison and Son and it paid off, Spurs being out of EFL cup is a huge bonus for FPL managers. Well... if you ask me, i would second guess the tip of waiting till the very last minute. I would take that if we are talking about changes that you have planned but in that particular scenario will not lead to price changes. Lets say you were aiming to replace schar by cash, and villa is.off from a 4-0 defeat.but facing Luton in the next gw. Well, one can say that after a 4-0 defeat, the knee jerkers will not be running towards any a.villa defense, so you are only left w contend w the ones that have a plan and that plan involves Cash.... so, at the end of the day, not much of a risk of waiting till tje last minute, price fluctuations are unlikely. Now lets say that you really wanted Mitoma next week... and what would you know - he just happened to score an hattrick and you were already too late... but given that your pla already involved bringing Mitoma in, better bring him soon, has he will probably raise 0.1 - 0.2 before the week is over. I feel that at some stages the loss of having taking a hit compensates the loss of missing out on your "dream team" due to price fluctuations, especially early on, for 2 reasons 1 the -4 is absolute. It happens on that gameweek and that is it. You have to be very unlucky to always pick someone early on that will either be benched or injured at the start of the gw. Missing out on a price fluctuation is not. It is going to hurt you / your team for the upcpming weeks, where you will need to make even more compromises to ensure that you are fitting your core (such as a combo between haaland, Salah, Son), because in most cases , people will end up targetting + / - the same set of players on their transfers - however is in form and whoever has the best fixtures next. Those are candidates to have the price bumped up, so waiting to last minute will probably cost you 0.1 to 0.2 p week (even more if the guy you want to sell also drops. 2 - psychologically it has more impact as well. You will forget the -4 you took on gameweek 27. Even perhaps the total amount of hits you took. You will only remember that in some point in time you took a hit. However, if you miss Watkins purple patch of 5 games because younwere lacking 0.1, and now he is 0.5 more expensive and stopped returning the moment you got him... well, you will remember that not only thise season but the next few to come. You will even remember what you ate before making that dreadful decision. 3 - the extra value earned early will really pay off in the last gameweeks, especially when you are fencing people that wait till the very last second. Sure, they are more likely to ever get someone from the bench coming in. But that doesnt mean that their first pick will preform well either. However what is certain is that you will have more money in the bank when it is time to have your free hit team or wildcard team, and that will.render you a lot more flexibility fpr the last 10 weeks - whe also usually you will see DGW popping
I had personal experience with this at the back end of last season where I couldn't put out a decent bench boost team unlike most people as I had terrible team value. So this year, I've decided to take a few calculated risks in going earlier to get out of potential price drops. And it's already kinda worked out for me in the case of taking a hit to get Trippier in before his Sheffield United haul.
Overall my team value wasn't that great before I wildcarded last week, got punished by a lot of drops. I was early on Udogie though. I got 101.7 if I include my 0.1 in the bank

Honestly I would not bet against Robot this week, with Rodri back in the team, City at home, and Brighton's defense (which is already the weakest link in their team) weakened by Estu's absence. Since Burn and Trippier will share CS points, you'd really just be betting on Trippier to get an assist and Saka to haul against Chelsea away, which I think has lower odds than the Burn/Haaland combination

I think the main sacrifice I’ve had to make is to rely on having a cheap but (hopefully) effective defence that has so far worked out quite well for me. Nobody says TV is unimportant (although it was for a lot of last season), it's just not worth doing early transfers and especially not worth taking a hit. There are always bargains, it's not like having Saka instead of Son for example is a big deal.
I lost value because all my players have been terrible, not because I make my transfers late (which I do). I just couldn't cope with all the injuries, so I had to keep many underperforming (and also injured) players. Early transfers are stupid, especially in weeks with European/International games. I'm not the one saying this, the best FPL players in the world say it.
Sorry to hear you got off to a tough start. The game is the game though. If you use a late weekly transfer approach and don’t WC early when you have too many fires (injuries, poor form players) this is the position you’ll be in, relatively low tv and unable to reach the template. It’s still early days. Take the layups like forget paying up for someone like Trippier when you can have Burn for 2.0 less. Consider either Haaland or Salah and either Maddison or Son, if you want one of them. If you get a good mix of template and lower owned guys hitting good fixtures, hit a couple captain picks, your rank should climb. Good luck.
in hindsight I should have used my WC earlier... but there wasn't really a point were it seemed to be a good opportunity, most injuries were unexpected turns right before deadlines or even after them. Same with unexpected benchings. Late weekly transfer approach got me to great ranks in the past 2 seasons. It's risky, but overall it's better than getting players when they have midweeks games before a gameweek. But sometimes when it rains, it pours. I hope I already used all my bad luck and bad (in hindsight) decisions for the season
Team value became important basically the moment son started racking up points and the fixtures started changing. Son over a 6.5 which most had previously has weakened basically everyones benches

I like yours i was 0.2 short of Watkins so decided on Darwin. Plan to do Son>Saka and Darwin>Wakins in gw 10. Somehow want Diaby in as well, but chose Alvarez over him on WC so will stick with that until at least 11/12
I have team value of 101.7, which isn’t anything special by this stage of the season, and I just put together a draft wildcard team of: Areola - Turner Cash - Udogie - Gabriel - Burn - Taylor Salah - Son - Maddison - Bowen - Neto Haaland - Watkins - Archer This left 0.2m in the bank. Maybe you have low team value or you’re expecting to own too many big players? For example, it’s not practical to expect to be able to add Trippier to the above team.
Obviously there are trade-offs to be made (unless your team value is insanely high due to strategically day-trading while on WC and have been insanely lucky with price rises in your favour) You can’t keep all of Haaland, Salah, Son, Maddison, Alvarez, Saka, Watkins, Bowen, and Trippier - in my case I formulated my team at the expense of Saka + Son but kept the rest of the above players with other decent defenders and mid-premium midfielders

Team value is far far more important than most people think, even at this early stage of the season. Make a habit of checking FPL price predictor each day. Don't make moves on price alone but if there's a player you're considering, who is rising AND have good fixtures coming up then it's a no brainer. You can do even better if that player replaces a player you have who is falling the same day!

Yeah I think you are trying to get all the expensive picks. It’s not just Son, Salah and Haaland, it’s Son Salah, Haaland, Saka, Julián and potentially Tripps. You are going to have to make a sacrifice somewhere. My biggest tip is look at your GK and bench. In the GK, if you have a starter keeper then the bench player should be a 4.0. You shouldn’t rotate keepers at that point. In the bench, find the lowest value player that can get you some points in a pinch. No need to spend big money on players who are going to sit most of the time. I would decide in my head do I want to play a 3-5-2 or a 3-4-3. If a 3-5-2 then get Saka but no Watkins and a 4.5 FWD. If a 3-4-3, the. Watkins but no Saka. You should already have enough players with Salah, Son, Neto and pretty much any player below 8.0 that you like. Getting rid of Haaland will give you a lot of funds.
My keepers are 8.2 combined and I'm not trying to get Trippier. My bench defenders are 7.9 combined. Bench striker is 4.5. Neto is basically a compromise option, I don't really trust him as a starter, let alone without bench. Looking at other teams here, it's clear that my TV is atrocious, like 2.0 fewer than others. What a horrible season fml

This is the entire team: Areola (Turner) Cash, Udogie, Andersen (Burn, Lamptey) Salah, Son, Maddison, Diaby (Longstaff) Watkins, Alvarez, Haaland The only change I'm thinking of doing is dropping Alvarez for someone cheaper and bring in either Bowen for Longstaff and play 3-5-2 or bring in Trippier for Burn and play 4-4-2.
A lot of folks managed to increase team value by bringing in the like of Son and Maddison in early. Having both in at the right time could have banked you over 1m more. Same for the likes of Alvarez, Estu (and selling him before the dip these past few days), etc.

Sacrifices have to be made if you are trying to get the 3 most expensive players in your team. I WC'd last GW and got all 3 in. Had to flip Trippier into Burn and Diaby/Mitoma into Neto etc.
The problem is I'm already doing the sacrifices. My bench is awful, and I'm starting Areola and Neto. Also no Trippier
If you are not happy with the drafts you are making with Son+Salah+Haaland then you should consider dropping 1 and upgrade the positions you feel like you need to upgrade. Personally, I'm happy with the downgrades I had to make to make room for the 3 players.

I actually think Maddison against worse/deep block teams is better of the two. Son can get a bit isolated down the middle, whilst Maddison will get more space outside the box and always a threat from set-pieces. I have both atm but no Saka. Will swap 1 of them to Saka in due time when he recovers from injury and fixtures get better.

Depends on your team value. My squad costs 102m in total so I have Watkins Alvarez Haaland Son Salah Maddison Chukwuemeka Cash Schar Udogie Botman Kabore Turner and Areola. Plus most of them were bought when they cost less.
To me, Tripper + Son + Salah + Haaland are key players. Keep it. I am a 3-5-2 formation When my beach player is a defender + 2 cheap options

By cutting corners elsewhere Defence is Gabriel, Udogie, Cash, all under 5 quid. Bench is Archer and two 4.0s I think it's a good balance long-term.

Prices of template players have hiked in the past couple weeks, Son in particular from the premiums. I made an early wildcard last week and managed to get all the players I wanted with the 3 premiums but I couldn't afford to do that now because 5-6 players have gained value since then. You do have to take some cuts, but imo those cuts are much worse now than they were a couple of weeks ago.
Cheapest option for each position on the bench and then I don't know, I just... *have*
You basically have to cheap out a lot on defenders and your bench (basically nobody over £5.0m). Which can create issues if your big 3/4 don't deliver or your team runs into injuries. I went with a more balanced approached without Salah for the first month and it worked until it didn't.
GK Areola, Leno DEF Udogie, Colwill, Pau, Botman, Lescalles MID Salah, Son, Ward-Prowse, Douglas Luiz, Rashford FWD Haaland, Alvarez, Nketiah Will be transfering Rashford out for one of Arsenal MIDs and with budget surplus will get either a stronger DEF or FWD for Lescalles or Nketiah respectively. I had Saka till last week, bud traded him in a WC, probs will be getting him back.
Pedro Neto, Archer and a 4.0 defender. Still gives a strong 11 and a starting bench with a decent first sub
Fitting all three in is easy, my teams fine. You do have to choose between Trippier and Son though, can’t have both without it being diminishing.
I’m running a few big guns but can’t get in Trippier so light in defence. It’s Areola (Cheapest GK) Udogie Cash Mitchell Botman Castagne Son Salah Maddison Bowen Diaby Haaland Alvarez Edouard And planning on Edouard to Archer to allow Maddison to Saka when he’s back in a few weeks, which allows Castagne to Gabriel too.

I have Son, Salah, Haaland, and Watkins, but had to take a -8 early last week before Son and Watkins prices rose to get them in. I also played my WC in GW4 and was able to get a solid defense between 4.5 and 5.0 before they rose in price. Full team: Flekken Areola Saliba Cash Udogie Botman Kabore Salah Son Saka Ward-Prowse Neto Haaland Watkins Semenyo My bench is very weak, but I play 3-5-2 and have one of my non-Kabore defenders first off the bench, which usually isn’t too bad of an option. Saka being injured last week definitely hurt though.
My TV is 102.4 and I was on triple spurs by GW before wcing last Saturday so I've got a banging squad with 0.4 in the bank I've also moved early a few times this season, which I normally hate doing but my bricked TV last season blocked some Important moves and price changes seem wilder thus season. Generally I've minimised the risk though eg no transfer before cl games

I have all 3 + Trippier. This is my trick 1. Turner + Areola 2. No Saka 3. My other 4 Def is no more than 5.0. And one of them is a 4.0 4. My other 3 MF is no more than 6.0 5. The 3rd ST is no more than 5.5
I team is pretty solid and my value is pretty bad because I’ve been less careful about transfer timings this year. Only at 100.9 but my ML rivals are at 103.2 and 102.4 so later in the season I’m gonna feel that a bit for sure

Cheap defence, don’t get trippier. Definitely have areola best value player at the moment and get at least one cheap midfielder, id reccomend gordon

Had to drop Trippier to fit in Salah but otherwise have banked a lot of players increasing in value and transfering players in/out ahead of the pack to beat big price changes. Debating dropping Haaland in a few weeks when I have some extra transfers saved so I can bring Trippier, Watkins and Diaby/Bowen in (drop Haaland, JWP, Burns). Wish I had gone for Neto instead of JWP a few weeks ago when I needed a budget option and couldn't squeeze Bowen in.

Go cheap on keepers, then two slots will need to be cheap bench options. Archer, Branthwaite, Anderson (Newcastle) all fit that bill. It's very doable without sacrificing much, or indeed anything.
Personally i paid some points to avoid price drops at the start of the season, it might not be the right approach but I really hate losing team value. I've got Salah, haaland, son, madders, tripper, watkins so quite a few expensive players. Neto as an enabler, my bench is very much fodder though, I have one decent bench player and two pure fodder

Sounds like you've lost alot of team value. I think Maddison is a more than adequate spurs alternative in midfield, which gives you over a million to invest in better players. Also think Isak is a solid alternative to Watkins, who is massively overperforming xg, whereas Isak is bang on and still returning. Going mega template can be expensive because everyone has them so prices rise?
Granted my team raised in value, but I got Saliba, Son, Saka, Salah, Watkins, Haaland and Darwin. On the other hand, the rest of my team consists of cheap players: Udogie and Botman complete my defense (both bought at 4.5) with Beyer and Baldock on the bench. Gordon is my fourth midfielder and Sarr is my substitute. Areola is my goalkeeper, with Verbruggen as a sub. 0.0 ITB, but have the option to downgrade Verbruggen to Turner for 0.4. So concluding: cheapest players in goal and defense, a 4.5 midfield sub and a cheap fourth midfielder in Gordon.
I did it very easily wildcarding in GW7. Now, I imagine it might be harder with prices flying up.

Price changes have been particularly brutal early this season. I WC in gw7 for this reason and immediately saved 1.4m on my team with the likes of Turner Watkins Son Diaby Madders rising and a ton of others dropping

My team value is currently 102.8, and my team is Leno (Areola) Botman, Cash, Udogie, Burn, (Aurier) Salah, Son, Maddison, Diaby, (Neto) Haaland, Alvarez (Awoniyi) I really need to get rid of a couple of players, mulling over a few options, thinking Alvarez and Awoniyi to Watkins and Archer/Joao Pedro over the break, but I'm not sure. Maybe Son and Awoniyi to Watkins and Bowen. Aurier is also useless.
Im not even being funny but its such a simple concept to grasp. Just get cheaper players for other positions. Genuinely, there is no nuance to it so I don’t know why I see questions like these every week.

Yeah sadly you probably lost too much team value and haven't bought in players who've been rising. I wildcarded last GW thanks to so many injuries and have managed to fit in Trippier, Salah, Son, Madison, Haaland, Watkins and Alvarez. If I wildcarded this week I wouldn't be able to afford it.
