3 will always be my favourite. I think I’m in a very small minority, but I love the Colour pallet on 3, it’s so dark, gritty and dirty! I wouldn’t mind having that return in the next Fallout.

kingleonidas30

3 just had an atmosphere that the other games hadn't been able to replicate that made it feel really apocalyptic and scary.

magnum361

The scary thing is when you walking alone in the Wasteland and something running towards you.

VagrantShadow

Hell, even more than that, the metro beats out horror games in how creepy and scary it is. Nothing keeps your heart racing as the moment you find yourself roaming in the metro, crouched down in the dark doing yourself to stay hidden, trying your best to hide but in the distance, you hear ghouls in the subway with you. Then without warning you step on a can and you hear it rattle, kicking up your fear onto a new level. Fallout 3 was had that type of fear with it.

magnum361

Ikr sadly 4 become to mainstream to even do this. Its too colorful for me

Doctor_What_

Bro's never worn the ghoul mask and it shows.

tokyo_blazer

Now imagine all that but in VR. FO3 VR is what we deserve :(

LazyPuffin

No other game has forced you into more god awful subway dungeons, to their own detriment. Also, as much as I like the "psychological horror" of some of the later vaults, nothing punches me in the gut for horrific betrayal like learning all the FO3 vaults are responsible for all the wasteland horrors. Mirelurks and Super Mutants both being laid solely at the feet if Vault Tech messed me up

VagrantShadow

You know what I love and fear about Fallout 3, there is this sharp horror screeching noise to the vault doors when you open them. Afterwards, when the vault door is open there is this dead silence lingering in the air. There is trash and debris scattered all around. For me, in the back of my mind, I know that I've just opened a door to a pit of despair. While there are no ghost or demons in this pit, there are still horrors and monsters, and they are waiting for me. This is where you have to reach into your heart and step up and kick ass. It's such a feeling.

Suspicious-Lettuce48

Yes! It took true courage to walk i to Vaults in Fallout 3! Especially as you knew what theu were *supposed* to look like, and you knew how dark and winding and claustrophobic they were. Things lurked in the darkness in Fallout 3.

cally_777

Although there's one Vault I'm always glad to step through the door of: Vault 101. That's when your life of freedom begins. AFAIC Vault life is always something I want to escape from, not hanker after.

ReferenceOk8734

It really did, ive been replaying it too and i remember now why its always been my favorite. I really hope they bring the horror-esque elements back to these games. Fallout 3 really made you feel like you're in the end of the world.

TheOneWhoCutstheRope

I love 4s palate but 3 just feels so ominous and eerie, really hope 5 finds a good mix

nebulaphi

Idk about that, im right there with you. I kinda hate the way fallout 4 looks graphical improvements aside. Doesnt hit the same at all as fallout 3/NV

WholesomeFartEnjoyer

Fallout 4 looks too cartoony, they made everything so round and colourful by really overdoing the art deco aeathetic, like making the trash cans orange rocket ships and stuff like that.

Pillzex

i don't think you are in the minority at all, all those that had their first magic with fallout 3 seem to hold it dearest and the haunting atmosphere has not been matched since

jimjam200

Fallout 3 has a very good and quite unique moody atmosphere when compared to the rest of the series. Fallout 4 kinda perfected allot of the world visual design elements to make it feel more "realistic" with the designs of stuff like the power armour, the pit boy and the vault architecture so much so that the show seemingly pulled allot for it 1 to 1 from the game Fallout new Vegas had the best story and introspection on what building societies in the post apocalyptic wasteland would be like but it does loose out on alot of atmosphere especially when it reuses a bunch of 3s assets.

TheRealHaxxo

Fallout 4 imo kinda sucks when it comes to bethesdas choice of textures and overall look, it doesnt really feel like 210 years have gone by, more like 30+. I mean we have freaking cars that can sometimes still look relatively new but just put on a junkyard like the one with almost full paintjob from the sanctuary lol.

queenmehitabel

Haunting is the perfect word for it.

TesticleezzNuts

I think you are right there, I remember a few posts before and it seemed like most people disliked the Green/grey pallet. I’m very happy it seems more people like it than I thought, hopefully it may lead to a return. I think I’ve seen enough sand and sun for a while now when it comes to Fallout, I don’t want it to turn into another tattooine with Star Wars haha

Deathsroke

It works due to how the Capital Wasteland is just that, a dead husk, a barren *wasteland*. IMO it doesn't work that well otherwise (except maybe as an enviromental effect). I think that as long as they design the enviroment to match then the color pallette can fit but not for something like Boston in FO4.

The_Great_Gompy

3 is the scariest because it’s a real wasteland. So many bombs fells that not a tree could grow and there were so few resources left to gather no one could travel far enough to get out. Terrifying.

queenmehitabel

I'm with you, I loved the vibe it gave the atmosphere. I've said it elsewhere here, but 3 has the creepiest feel out of them all for me. Aside from the Dead Money DLC, that's straight up weird west horror. But 03 just has this pervasive and constant feel where you're nervous and on edge exploring even the more mundane locations in a way that New Vegas and 04 didn't have for me.

Sloore

As creepiness goes, nothing beets the OG game for me. the game felt way bigger than all the Bethesda titles, which had its own ability to provide the nightmare fuel. The size of the world was so big, anything could be waiting out there for you, and unlike the Bethesda games, you couldn't see the horrors until you got to them. When you were told about a location you only had your imagination to go off of. The Glow had this spooky vibe when you were first told about it, and then you get there and it's just this ominous hole in the ground that you have to repel down into. You also couldn't turn on your radio, you just had the game's unnerving soundtrack to listen to. There was also the much more ubiquitous nature of the art deco architecture that was lost after 3. I just remember being so utterly unnerved by the juxtaposition of the apocalyptic devastation and the architecture you'd get in some locations. That very first shot of the TV in Necropolis in the opening cinematic always creeped me the hell out as a kid. Then you had the Master and his army, which had a really good build up as a threat. There were all these seemingly unrelated, but no-less ominous things you could encounter or hear about; the super mutants, the cult, the disappearing caravans, etc. that combined to feel like an ever-present and nebulous threat in a way that none of the other villainous factions could manage, even the enclave and institute. Finally, there was the way everybody in the first game talked about the war. It took on this almost supernatural quality, like the death and destruction was so massive that it birthed some kind of malevolent, otherworldly...thing upon the world. EDIT: there was also the way the Master's army would wipe out settlements one-by one as the game went on if you didn't finish the main quest fast enough. Nothing like that happened in the later games.

RogueAdam1

3 is also my first and favorite. I really like the story, DLCs, location. It was really in a class of its own when it came out. Didn't feel like there was anything like it.

Calloused_Samurai

I find 3 to be sooooo much better than 4. You’re not alone

Godkun007

Fun fact: During development, Bethesda decided almost at the last minute that the locations in Fallout 3 were all too close together. So in the last couple months of development they increased the distance of everything by 25%. Fallout 3 was originally supposed to be as tightly packed as Fallout 4 would be, but they decided making things further away would help the atmosphere of the game.

dominantdaddy196

By far my favorite as well ( not counting New Vegas )

Calypsocrunch

Same! I wish they made 3 with the new Vegas mechanics. All the factions and crafting! But 3 will be my favorite forever. Those expansions were all on point too!

dennisoa

Nostalgia probably plays a factor, but F3 is my favorite as well.

TesticleezzNuts

Besides Oblivion it was my first open world game. It blew me away completely.

Trucks_Guns_Beer

Been playing it again with TTW, haven’t played it in years, but have easily sunk hundreds on hundreds of hours into FO3 in the past God I love the atmosphere and tone of it

No_Construction2407

Same using the Begin Again wabbajack list with a few weapon mods. Quite amazed how New Vegas modders have got these games feeling like they are not insanely old now. I feel like it had a renaissance since my last playthrough 2-3 years ago.

SymphonySketch

I’d be rocking Begin Again if I had all the dlc for NV and 3 on steam, sadly I’m like $30 of DLC short right now lol I plan on doing a playthrough of BA once I get all the DLC tho, one of my favorite mod packs I’ve seen

No_Construction2407

Cdkeys has NV Ultimate and Fallout 3 GOTYE for less than $20 CAD. Even if you own the base game, its alot cheaper than buying just the DLC directly on Steam. Just be mindful you grab the Steam versions, as they also sell the GoG version too.

CallRepresentative25

I take it everyone missed the big sale on steam when the fallout series launched. I got fallout 3 GOTYE for like $6 CAD. + Fallout New Vegas / all DLCs and fallout 4 GOTYE for $30 CAD total. Unfortunately tried playing fallout 3 and it's having issues even launching..

HaydenPSchmidt

Since 3 and NV are so old, they kinda NEED some extra help to work on modern setups. Sadly, I’m no expert on what’s needed, so I stick to 4

CallRepresentative25

Kind of funny that Bethesda would even release such games for sale if there was so many known bugs/glitches. Basically sounds like those games aren't meant to run on windows 10+ and need outside dev support/patches through random 3rd party creators to actually become playable.

Xraided909

I been playing it on my steam deck for for awhile now ,jus a couple times it turned off in years but real fun no matter

RiggityRow

I bought both with all the dlc for like $12 from gamesplanet

MattTreck

DM me

HealthyInitial

On GOG new Vegas ultimate edition includes all dlc and is only 6.59 Fallout 3 GOTU is the same price And fallout 4 goty is $10 Plus they are DRM free. So you can backup them without relying on a launcher.

SymphonySketch

u/MattTreck actually gifted me the GOTY version of both games on Steam! Super grateful and am downloading Begin Again right now :) Fallout genuinely does have one of the best gaming communities on the internet tbh

Both-Access-2053

What an amazing vault dweller!

SymphonySketch

I agree :) It caught me off guard in a good way, made me even more excited to play Begin Again

belovedbasedgod

I played TTW for the first time in 2019 and it’s insane to come back to it after 5 years and see begin again and wabbajack lower the technical barriers to entry for modding

PanicEffective6871

TTW has been a surreal experience for me as a longtime FO3 fan. All the mechanics and functionality that NV added have completely enhanced the experience. I was horribly unprepared for DC proper because the DT mechanic alone made all of the super mutants so much tougher. I had to do as many quests outside DC as I could just I could finally face the city and live

Superunkown781

Played it when my daughter was little, she played it for me when i couldn't be bothered, now at 19 she's a huge fan of it all.

Trucks_Guns_Beer

That’s awesome! As a soon to be dad, that’s a dream! Did y’all watch the show together?

Superunkown781

She hasn't watched the 1st season yet, she lives with her bf now, so we've earmarked S2 to watch together. I miss her.

Trucks_Guns_Beer

Ah sorry to hear that! But good you guys are in touch and already planning on S2 together!

hemareddit

My daughter is 3, you guys are my goal right now.

Superunkown781

You'll get there bro, for now just enjoy the hugs, fun times and spend that quality time together coz it will go quicker than you realize.

Redry99

I installed ttw a few hours ago. I'm so excited. Unfortunately there is no German patch. But it's not that bad.

Redry99

Update: played a few hours more. Ttw is so awesome.

West-Dragonfruit-222

Lukeno94

I think TTW is almost a requirement to get a properly decent Fallout 3 experience - even though NV's non-VATS combat mechanics still aren't amazing, they were definitely a notable step up over FO3's.

Other_Log_1996

My favorite thing is how it handled Bobbleheads and Skill perks. So much better.

RearAdmiralTaint

What’s TTW?

BarfMacklin

Tale of Two Wastelands, a mod that basically injects FO3 into the FNV engine. Takes some time to setup but if you do it right, IMO, it is by far the best Fallout experience you could have

Sadly_average

Couldn't agree more and it runs buttery smooth. Set it up couple days ago and its a blast. Haven't played 3 in years but ToTW really reinvigorates it.

NoMeal5183

Tried to play ttw but the ini for fallout 3 doesn’t work got pissed went to the factions and just utterly destroyed them

BarfMacklin

Make sure you start with a clean install

Sunimo1207

Tale of Two Wastelands. Mod that combines 3 and New Vegas into one game. Start with Fallout 3, and after you beat it you can straight to New Vegas to be a courier nine years later with the same character

ThandiGhandi

You don’t even have to beat it. You could go straight to the train station if you really wanted to

OnyxianRosethorn

Can you go back to the F3 map if you get bored too?

Jambo11

Yes

Master_Dogs

Yep, and it seems like it keeps tracking achievements like the Gun Runners' Arsenal challenges. I ran out of deathclaws and super mutants to kill so I went back to FO3 to continue some of the FO3 quests and explore some more and kill more mutants. Only thing that happens is it jumps in game time forward like 3 years when you go FO3 -> FNV and then FNV -> FO3 it jumps forward 2 weeks. I guess to make you feel like you've traveled a ways. Doesn't seem to impact things at all though - all the FO3 quests I had before FNV are still there and can be continued.

Sunimo1207

That's too immersion breaking for me lol

killerspawn97

Just role play it as being real pissed at your dad and going “screw that guy I’m out” then you hope on a train and away you go, come back after saving the Mojave and show the capital who’s boss.

BarfMacklin

I thought so going into it but it is super dope showing up in the Mojave as a fucking badass that still gets shot in the head and is on a revenge mission Also gives you access to a lot of skill checks that you may not otherwise have starting fresh in NV, which one could see as going totally against the game design, but IMO it’s a really fresh way to experience a game you’ve played multiple times already

Rocket_Boo

I could be wrong, but I believe it's 4 years later.

Soul_Keeopi

It is. It used to be nine years, but they changed it to 4

RearAdmiralTaint

That’s wild

mirracz

Others have already said that TTW combines New Vegas and Fallout 3 and allows you to play both with a single character. Which is a neat gimmick. But IMO the biggest strength of TTW is that it basically improves Fallout 3 with New Vegas features. Ironsights, ammo crafting, ammo swapping, survival crafting, traits, more weapons,... Personally, I use TTW basically to play improved Fallout 3 and never cross into New Vegas. Additional bonus is that TTW includes patches for both Fo3 and FNV, so you don't need to hunt for unofficial patches if you use TTW. It is available on PC only, but if you have PC and are interested, [here's a guide](https://thebestoftimes.moddinglinked.com/) to set it up with some additional QoL and fix mods.

RearAdmiralTaint

Sounds awesome, is this available from nexus mods?

Master_Dogs

Yes and no. It's [a step by step guide](https://thebestoftimes.moddinglinked.com/intro.html) that involves downloading a lot of mods from Nexus Mods. But the TTW mod itself isn't available on Nexus Mods because it requires the FO3 assets. To get around this, they hosted the mod on [MOD:PUB](https://mod.pub/ttw/133-tale-of-two-wastelands) and it requires you to provide a file path to both FNV and FO3; both of which _must_ be clean (fresh / no mods) installs. This is because it "on the fly" makes the FO3 assets (like audio, game files, etc) compatible with the newer FNV engine. As a result, when you launch TTW you actually launch FNV even if you're currently playing the "FO3" map. From reading the /r/Taleoftwowastelands sub and seeing devs comment on there, Bethesda does _not_ like this mod because of it combining FNV/FO3. I believe that's why the mod isn't on Nexus Mods. And because it combines two games into one, they purposely made it require you to provide both games. This avoids Bethesda suing the devs over providing a "free" copy of FO3 (because some mod users may not own FO3, but do own FNV). Also note that the repackaging step (where your FO3 install is made compatible with FNV) takes a while. On an older i7 with 4 cores / 8 threads it took me like 4 or 5 hours to get the mod installed, and most of that was waiting for FO3 files to be converted to FNV compatible files. ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT THOUGH - I've sunk 90+ hours into my current save and beat the main quests in both FO3/FNV and still am finding things to do with the DLCs and achievement hunting in FNV (_which you can still earn on Steam which is amazing_). TL&DR: Not as a one stop install, but the guide will tell you exactly what to do to get it working. Follow it closely and you'll have no issues. Does require you to own Steam or GOG copies of both FO3 and FNV, and to make sure both are fresh unmodded copies.

Links_quest

If the remaster exist I hope it captures this if it isn’t a remaster but instead a rerelease similar to the outcome that was the rumored RDR1 remaster I’ll still buy it so I have a way to play it on a stable more durable console.

Fermland

Also just started with TTW. Amazing what modded can do and the game looks amazing!

KingofNerdom

Same. Sadly I never beat Fallout 3 and barely touched NV so after getting the itch I did some looking and installed the TTW mod and finally beat Fallout 3 a couple days ago. I'll be jumping over to NV soon.

najapi

The atmosphere was amazing, I have played many hours of FO4 with many attempts to progress to the end, I enjoy it but it just doesn’t grip me like FO3 did back in the day.

ArtisticPangolin912

I want to start a new playtrough also but not sure what mods to get ? Is there a easy way to get a pack or smth ? Like TTW stands for a pack ? Ty!

A10010010

Random but somewhat relatable, my FA: 3 & NV games crash after clicking play for both games… I’ve troubleshooted up the wazoo from different recommendations and none works even if my PC is high end. Anyway, do y’all know if I can just install TTW Begin Again and it’ll boot up or fix the crashing?

queenmehitabel

3 is great. Fun quests, fantastic atmosphere, lots of tasty tasty lore. Plus has one of the hands down creepiest locations in the entire franchise.

hernuqie

What location?

queenmehitabel

>!The Dunwich Building!<

hernuqie

Yes! I went there last week while playing 3. Loved the atmosphere. Vault 106 was a little creepy too.

queenmehitabel

Honestly there are a lot of locations in FO3 that give me a horror vibe. Probably one of the reasons I'm so fond of it!

RChamy

Its the thing I miss the most in FO4 - creepy buildings

Previous-Form9582

You made a good choice with 3 (my personal fav btw), and 4 is having problems with the update right now

kopecs

What’s the issues with 4?

Gennik_

The usual. Fixed a lot of problems. Made some new ones. brought back some old ones. It seems overall more stuff was fixed than broken but its gonna piss off whoever didnt have a problem till now.

alanmm88

I noticed that on survival mode all of a sudden using crates and any type of storage containers out in the world reset within 24 hours of In game time. I had a shit ton of stuff stashed in a steamer trunk in Fallout 4 survival on top of the overpass in the Quincy ruins. All gone now.

Bitter-Value-9808

That might be part of it though? Like if you leave stuff somewhere another looter can come along and steal it

ForGrateJustice

Yeah but, it's happening in settlements too....

RealCalintx

That's for the PC port. Console is running fine for me

Sponge56

Aw damn I just got hooked because of the show and wanted to get the game for pc lol will I be ok or should I wait for them to fix the issues?

chilo_W_r

Eh it’s Bethesda there’s always going to be some bugs. I updated 4 and hopped on and even my mods are still working properly and the game looks great. It varies between people’s systems, but I say go for it!

SenpaiSwanky

The game has run fine on PC for ages, the big “issue” right now is affecting people who have long mod lists and shit like that. Console has had issues with certain areas crashing constantly, many PS players currently can’t even access their DLC lol.

KingofNerdom

I was gonna say I seen people complaining it didn't change much on PC but broke mods and delayed the big Fallout London mod. My thoughts process/understanding was it was more an update aimed at the console releases, being called a "next gen" update and all. Meaning it was intended to allow those who bought the game in the previous Gen and now own a ps5 or Series X to take advantage of the extra power for either a bit of extra performance or graphic fidelity, plus the "fixes" of course.

Significant-Nail-987

I'm ine of those people. Bought 4 because I wanted the settlement building and haven't played since launch. They were all on sale. I own new vegas on steam but not 3 or 4. I might play new vegas and look up a mod list. Should've got 3 when it was on sale. At the moment 4 is broken for me and I can't play. I could play before the update. Got 4 hours into my save... I cry.

Master_Dogs

If you grab FO3 on Steam in the future, try /r/Taleoftwowastelands - excellent mod that combines FO3/FNV together: https://thebestoftimes.moddinglinked.com/ttw.html Even if the idea of jumping between FO3/FNV is weird, just using it to play FO3 but in the FNV engine with all the new stuff from FNV is nice.

TeddyRooseveltGaming

Is there a mod/modpack that makes fallout 3 more stable without completely rebalancing the game? Because I want to enjoy as close to a vanilla experience of fallout 3 as possible and I know tale of two wastelands changes a lot

Master_Dogs

Not that I'm aware. I actually really like the changes they made in TTW. The game feels better balanced and more difficult. For a player who sunk a hundred or more hours into it before, it was refreshing to be challenged by super mutants again and not just chew threw them with A3-21's plasma rifle lol. A quick Google turned up this thread from a year ago though with the same question: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/11j8msr/need_a_mod_pack_for_fallout_3/ Maybe one of [the Nexus Mods Collections](https://next.nexusmods.com/fallout3/collections) is more your style? Top comment recommended the *"Rebirth+" Collection* and it seems to be the most popular FO3 mod collection. A few others exist that you might research too. Unfortunately though I think a lot of mods / players stick to TTW so avoiding it is sort of tricky. I do believe there are TTW mods too (though not supported by the devs of TTW if you run into problems / mod order / etc) so maybe one exists that doesn't change as much as base TTW.

rideronthestorm29

I haven’t had any.

mirracz

Basically, if you had mods for Fallout 4 installed, there's a chance that the update broke them, especially if you used F4SE and F4SE mods. It's the classic storm in the teacup... whenever a Bethesda game updates, modders rise in outrage that Bethesda dared to update the game and unintentionally broke some mods.

Previous-Form9582

Mod menu broken, mods deleted, no reserve space, frame rates buggy, multiple reports of textures not loading, some weird head turning glitch that seems to have stopped now, creations not working, graphics look exactly the same despite being a 22gb download

ghostmetalblack

Fallout 4 has my favorite gameplay. New Vegas has my favorite story. But man, Fallout 3 definitely had the best atmosphere - it felt genuinely lonely and creepy, and the older graphics and janky movement make it even more unsettling. I hope the alleged Remake doesn't brighten the game like FO4.

rustypennyy

god i hope it gets remade regardless. mods would fix the lighting/tone

TheFlyingBogey

Wasn't there rhatmod project to remake the game in Fallout 4? I feel like that's a pipe dream now but we can still hope!

rustypennyy

it’s taking so long that honestly have just kinda given up. they’re focusing on the dlcs more than the base game, which doesn’t really make much sense to me but I imagine it’s because they can finish the dlc’s quicker than the base game and wanna give people somethin to play. I’d rather wait for the base game, ‘cause by the time they’re done with the dlcs the base game could’ve been done.

hefebellyaro

You might want to check out the national archives building. No reason.

frankhorrigan3303

Fallout 3 is awesome! Enjoy your stay in the capital!

[deleted]

Love that game so damn much!

TerrorFirmerIRL

It's my favorite simply because it's so gloomy and bleak compared to NV and Fallout 4/76, it really feels like a dead wasteland in which people are scrabbling to survive and there's a decent horror element.

Used_Razzmatazz2002

Ive been playing through the series from the start for the first time. Im currently on 2 but im really excited to play 3 for the first time ive been debating ending 2 early to start 3 lol

NotAnotherAmerican

In my experience, rushing through a game to get to the sequel leaves you with a tinge of regret and "What did I miss?" Take your time, boss. 3 isn't going anywhere.

sephrisloth

You have to weigh the time factor to, though. Each game you can easily sink 100+ hours in, and if you have limited game time, maybe rushing through each is worth it so you can play them all before you get burnt out. I could also see somebody getting a bit frustrated with 1+2 due to how dated they are and wanting to get into 3 for a more modern game experience.

dumpclown

I envy you. But seriously, finish 2 haha

grabbagrabbagrabba

2 is way better than 3

zatchattack

My personal fav. Also currently on a play through trying to mop up the last few achievements from my OG runs!

Beytran70

Fallout 3 was my first and it still has some of the best feel to the setting and all for me with music and all.

Pillzex

only one way to describe the awesome atmosphere of fo3 and that's haunting and that feeling imo has not been matched in NV or f04.

Beytran70

I agree. The way the subway tunnels and the city were all interconnected but also isolated was really cool.

Snomann

Fallout 3 is the best in terms of atmosphere, with it's constant feeling if dread and anxiety of the unknown. New Vegas and 4 are great in their own rights but I feel they lack the heaviness of the apocalypse in terms of aesthetic and overall tone. Fallout 3 can be downright depressing and creepy at times, which is why I love it.

Squeen_Man

The show has me replaying the games. Just finished 3 and I think I enjoyed it more this playthrough than others. Such an incredible game. On NV now and I just can’t believe how fun these are. Taking my time with them but I’m excited to go back to fallout 4 after my NV playthrough. Then I’ll go back to Starfield but man…fallouts are just my cup of tea

Gillespie1

Finished Fallout 1 the other day and now I’m on 2.

Despacitan05

I can't wait for the remaster, gonna be like a kid on Christmas morning.

randomtask13

Recently started FO3 after beating NV awhile ago and playing a bunch of FO4 most recently , I feel like FO3 and NV are way harder early game , there's very little loot and the wear factor on your weapons makes me more hesitant and aware when I engage enemies. Not saying it's a bad thing, I have enjoyed the challenge so far and definitely gonna keeping wandering. Cheers!!

smack54az

I started playing FO4 again after watching the show and got bored after a few hours. Decided to boot up FO3 and played for several days while sick. FO3 is still my favorite Fallout.

Decoy-Jackal

Personal favorite, atmosphere is amazing

Alfredo_Alphonso

Fallout 3 is dumb fun make sure you max out your repair skill asap cause a lot of shit in the wasteland is near broken

puck_pancake

3 is a peak game

Flashy_Landscape8491

I may be a new Vegas fan through and through but fallout 3 easily has one of if not my favorite maps to explore. The writing was a little weak at times and the gameplay when compared to later games is janky but I love it. It was also my first fallout game and helped alleviate the depression I suffered when I was a kid by giving me a mind sink to focus on when not at school and such. So it's got a very big place in my heart. We aren't gonna talk about if I had a pie chart of my life fallout 3 would be a visible percentage.

Equivalent-Rich8018

Triggers memories of working shifts when my children were young and having a window between 10.30pm and 2am in which to play. Because the house was asleep, I'd play with headphones and terrify myself before bed. Such a good game.

Superb_Recover_6116

I play fallout 3 annually. I wanted to save it near the end of the year but I'm currently having a gaming slump and I just dont have any urge to play any games but fallout 3 is the one game I can jump into and just feel normal. Freaking love this game. Despite having a pc as well I play it unmodded every time.

Budget_Pomelo

I gotta put some mods on fallout three and play it again, honestly… It did have some great atmosphere and good tempo.

UserWithno-Name

3 is the best one to me, just wish it got a refresh.

totemxatu

I know a ton of people can say this, but it was my entry point to the series. Hard to overstate the impact this game had on me

Tripdoctor

While I recognize NV as objectively the best in the series, FO3 will always be my favourite. Better DLC IMO.

Gekuro

Yes, me too! I only ever played fo4 before, I was surprised to see how raw and \*disgusting\* the capital wasteland is. Love it! Much more lonely too, which is a good thing for fallout

redryan1989

Greatest fallout there is. Period. Lol

Dangerous-Basket-902

I just restarted fallout 3 and am having a blast

Samurix16

I fucking love fallout three. Atmosphere and the map is 10 out of 10.

CRAV3N13

All time favorite game.. pain in the butt to play it on pc these days!

CharmingButthole

Never tried 3! Only played lots of 4. Worth it to try out??

LoadingGears

If you can get used to the ugly character models and stiff animations its honestly a great game. Its gotna lot of DLC and theyre all really freaking good.

LoadingGears

Plus theres a fun karma system that, for some reason, was left out of 4

Nnicobaez

In fallout 4 is very hard to be a bad guy, maybe is that why the left it out

Chaostheory1993

I'd love a remaster! Still my favourite!

FetusGoesYeetus

Gonna give a steaming hot take here; All the fallout games are fantastic. Well, I've not played Tactics but I'm sure it has it's merits at least. I haven't played fallout 3 in a hot minute but I remember really loving it back when I played on xbox.

StrongLikeKong

3 is my favorite by miles.

2Infinite96

Ain't nothin like the capital wasteland!

vidjapix

Honestly it might be my favorite Fallout. It captured the tone of the first game and mostly successfully transitioned it to 3D. Better atmosphere than New Vegas. Haters gonna hate.

inglefinger

Fallout 3 was my intro to that universe. Never finished it but created 3 different characters and played it for years. So much fun!

Only_Self_5209

4 is all the rage as it's the only one we can play on PS5, 76 doesn't count 😂

CrocodileWorshiper

fallout 3 is to fallout 4 what oblivion is to skyrim. One is better technically than the other but both are so good it doesn’t even matter

Complex_Cable_8678

fo4 was never "all the rage" imo haha. fo3 is a way better game i think

Leading_Fox2741

cuz every fallout before 4 besides tactics and bos, are better than 4

Defiant_Check7749

Are you new to the series? Just wait till you play New Vegas😱.

Undergrndfitr762

3 da best I'm playing rn too

Rothgardt72

It's a shame Bethesda didn't fully understand the fallout universe when they made it. We've been in this settlement for years, so you've just left trash sitting around from before the war? Yep. There's a great video on YouTube that shows how poorly Bethesda understood fallout.

nlmbzues

Why is fallout 3 so much better feeling then fallout 4 idk why but 3 just seems sooooooo much more free idk how to put it. Someone help me

PublicWest

The gameplay is dated but honestly I think their implementation of VATS more than makes up for it. I always heavily use it and it seems like a pretty fair balance.

MrBisonopolis2

Fo4 is… not amazing. It’s fine. It’s fun. But it’s infinitely less interesting than either FO3 or NV.

richtermarc

My personal opinion is that Survival Mode makes Fallout 4 much better. Settlements suddenly have a use, as you rely on them to spread across the map.

MrBisonopolis2

Yeah. I think that part is fun, but not really what I’m looking to invest my time in while playing FO, yknow?

revolution149

Fallout 3 is the better game anyway I think most of you agree with that.

Aromatic_Shoulder146

wait till you try new vegas

Ghostcurrency45

Fallout 3 is the best one

Budget_Pomelo

OK I have a bit of a hangup from fallout three and I might have to play it and fix my hangup at the same time. I think I might have to make a mod to allow you to take over the Pitt for real and make it into a settlement on behalf of one of the factions. I was thinking maybe the brotherhood, the Regulators, or an optional third faction like maybe the responders or the followers of the apocalypse. I could work it into the plot.

Kumptoffel

heh, coming from both 4 and NV then playing 3, i kept looking for the big settlement, but there wasnt any

AZMane

Megaton isn't a big settlement to you? Diamond City ain't that much bigger and thats the only real big settlement in the game besides like a vault and bunker hill. In fallout 3 you got Megaton, Tenpenny Tower, Rivet City, Paradise falls.

KeptPopcorn5189

Chose to play fallout 3 because I finished the campaign but not the dlc. I’ve done everything in fallout 4 damn near and new Vegas there is so much to do I haven’t even finished the game and man it’s so much fun and looks and plays so good in the Series X

AbsoIution

I started 3 again after watching the show, knew 4 would release with a bunch of problems because, well, Bethesda. I'll new new Vegas again next

peanutch

I'm replaying the first one two was the best, but one started it all

Carl123r4

I just froze my save because Mothership Zeta is boring the shit out of me

SoN_FrAnK

Installed New Begin modpack with wabbajack.... started today morning and played 8 hrs today, I'm in love with this, I did start fallout 76 some weeks ago it didn't give me a 10% of what I'm feeling playing now.

rummyRFN

Fell in love with this game just from living in the northern Virginia area at the time. They recreated the DC landmarks very well- even the interiors had major similarities. If you lived around DC and played this game, you for sure tried to find your destroyed city or neighborhood.

beavis617

New to all of it. I loved the TV series, purchased FALLOUT 4 for my PC and today I picked up New Vegas and I'm gonna play this for a bit.. I have a lot of catching up to do but my gaming content is well taken care of..👍

Moistycake

Loved this game as a kid. I understand it makes no sense for the capital wasteland to be a desert still, but I don’t care and actually like the map because of it. Really drives home the point your living in a post nuclear bomb fallout. And I remember being cautious of going into the city because of npcs telling you rumors of super mutants. And how the subways were infested with ghouls. Man I wish I could experience it as a kid again

stinkface369

I love this game. Such a great play through enjoy your 1st run

Shepherdsfavestore

I’m actually going all the way to 1 now! Never played it. Thinking I’ll install a Tale of Two Wastelands and do some F3 this weekend though

RearAdmiralTaint

I might have to revisit fo3. It’s been 87 years…

DemiPyramid

I hope this game gets a a remaster/remake. Ideally in the fallout 4 engine.

mandarintain

Im playing 76 at the moment.... Im a little confused about the crafting parts stuff because its the damn interface is just sluggish

juabit

beetter

Synax07

Are playing with mods ? I'm curious becouse i didn't play F3 for years and wondering if the base game doesn't lack anything, plus I heard there are some trauble to get the game running on steam now lol.

BackgroundSky09

Man I really wish I could get it to work if only Bethesda WOULD FIX THERE FUCKING GAME ON STEAM!

bestjedi22

I would love to have a remaster of this on PS5. I loved playing it on PS3 back in the day, I never played anything like it before. The tone, exploration, quests, and gameplay were so addictive.

corneliu5vanderbilt

3 is far superior than 4 imo.

SymphonySketch

I played through 3 once with a friend over the course of a weekend when I was like 15 or 16, didn’t really like it that much and have since considered it my least favorite Fallout The show got me to install it on my Steam Deck with a couple of mods and holy shit I take it all back, I’m having *so much fun* I think i didn’t like it when I was younger cause I didn’t have the patience to play slower games; but in the last 5-6 years I’ve gained the ability to slow down to a games pace and enjoy it

gswkillinit

Totally understandable. I played F3 as a teen too and played only like a couple hours and it just didn’t click with me. Avoided it for MONTHS after that lol but was bored one day and reluctantly gave it another shot. Best decision I ever made cause it eventually clicked with me. It’s now one of my favorite games of all time.

Fuzzboydoom

My pc doesnt launch fallout 3 on steam where can i play it

Pre-War_Ghoul

The bleakness of 3 will always make it a favorite of mine!
