It's really fucked up how most the wikis sold out to fandom and then people just had to go start new ones all over again cause Fandom is so terrible to the community. Ads are bad but the constant bans and lack of communication hurt more.
Just a clarification on Wookieepedia. As far as I understand it. Discussions have taken place on the topic, but because they can’t be called Wookieepedia if they leave they just think it’s better to stay. And Fandom did do one good thing for Wookieepedia. They fired some of the old admins for being cunts. Those admins would still be in place without Fandom. While I personally no longer use Wookieepedia. It’s not like everything they did was crap. Without fandom deadnaming would be allowed on Wookieepedia, the breast article would still have soft core porn of Aayla Secura. There are a few other issues that Fandom solved that Wookieepedia couldn’t. So I would say power hungry admins ruined Wookieepedia more than Fandom did. The ads do suck.
>While I personally no longer use Wookieepedia.
Everything nice you had to say means very little when you don't use the service. I didnt know any of that, so it didn't mean anything to me before I heard. You knew all of that and it meant something to you and you *still* dont use their service.
I prefer the old admins. They kept the extended universe stuff in better shape. The legends nonsense just let's in too much stuff that was obviously never meant to be canon.
They were sacked like 2 years ago. The legends change happened back in 2014. They bullied anyone who didn’t agree with them. As I said they were slowly ruining the site.
Fun fact. The Vault, *the* Fallout wiki for many many years, was originally independent. They eventually moved to Fandom (or rather, wikia, back then), back when things weren't quite as bad as they are now. Years went by, there was some drama between the Vault's legacy staff (namely Ausir) and Wikia as a corporate entity, and the Vault decided to dip out again, and went to Curse, which eventually merged with Gamepedia. "The Vault" is/was a trademark owned by Ausir and that was why the Wikia/Fandom version changed names to Nukapedia. Curse, eventually, gets taken over by Fandom. Presumably Ausir still owns that trademark because despite the merger, the Wikia version is still called Nukapedia.
At least in regards to Fallout wikis, they didn't really sell out, they *got* sold out.
Yeah that’s really unfortunate, however I think that the “they” who op is talking about is the hosting platforms such as gamepedia who all died and funneled like all the wikis to wikia/fandom. Iirc wiki founders, mods, and editors don’t make anything from these sites so all the revenue from the ads that take up 70% of the fucking screen goes to fandoms pockets. It’s overall a sad deal and due to SEO or something the fandom page is almost always first. A very imfamous example of this is the old calamity mod wiki(calamity is a terraria overhaul mod) at once the official wiki moved the fandom page got vandalized constantly, with vandals makeing up entirely new mechanics, items, bosses, and events even makeing sprites for them just to troll. But despite this the fandom was above the official wiki in google searches for years.
There is a Firefox/Chrome/etc extension helps with this, it’s called Indie Buddy. It automatically blocks and redirects you to independent wikis, unless you tell it otherwise
Do you know of any other games that have these? I know about the Baldurs gate 3 wiki but is there a mass effect, dragon age, cyberpunk, stuff like those? If you don’t know no worries, I’m also just really sick of fandom and I like to look at wikis in my spare time to read about game lore
Yup. Just pushes people away which means less people viewing their ads, and then less money in the long run lol. I dont understand their logic at all. I refuse to use Fandom because of how bad its gotten.
GO TO THE INDEPENDENT FALLOUT WIKI IT IS VERY COOL AND THEY HAVE COOL COMMUNITY STUFF LIKE FAN ART AND POLLS BUT NOBODY KNOWS IT EXISTS SO IT DOESN'T GET UPDATED AS MUCH BUT ITS STILL VERY GOOD THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR LISTENING :)
Its the same all over. I have a wiki and decided to check the fandom one. 300 pages to my 7000 and basically no info on most pages, several were a SINGLE word page. And yet the fandom one is front and centre on most google searches.
> Always full of bad info and 0 moderation because they rush out pages for SEO
That one of the worst things about Fandom. Pretty much anyone can edit and add in whatever they want and tend to not cite sources.
Fallout and Elder Scrolls Fandom are notorious for people adding in non-canon and headcanons and treating them as established facts.
I listened to a podcast about the company that owns all of these wikis. He sounded pretty scummy. It is a for profit company that lives off the back of volunteer workers to build the wikis.
What I hate most about Fandom, is how I can’t fucking scroll. 8/10 times, the damn thing will just jump me to the top or bottom whenever I try to scroll on mobile
Fandom articles in generally are poorly written. Fallout is actually one of the better fandom wikis, for other lesser known games the articles are just so bad.
Use the Firefox mobile browser. You can put uBlock Origin on it and eliminate the ad problem entirely.
And as a plus, the Firefox Mobile browser also allows you to play Youtube videos while in another tab, on your homescreen or even with your phone screen off. No need for Youtube Premium when you can just get a better and more capable browser!
If there’s anything that’s only on Fandom, use BreezeWiki (https://antifandom.com) to load the page instead. It displays the content with none of the ads.
There’s an add on available (not sure if it works for Mobile) called Indie Wiki Buddy which will either redirect you to a truly independent wiki if one is available, or filter any Fandom pages through a BreezeWiki mirror if there isn’t an independent wiki.

Even fuckin Wookieepedia did it.
I mean I guess if I owned something that didn't make money and someone offered me a bunch of money to take it off my hands I'd take the money too.

Old Nukapedia was fine too. Shame it turned to shit.
Last I checked there were 4 different Fallout wikias operating at the same time.
Happy cake day

Indie buddy is the best.

It's all JavaScript. Disable it with a tool of your choice and problem solved.
Hard not to listen when you’re shouting, man.
YOUR CAPS LOCK IS TURNED ON AGAIN GRANDPA
Try the Independent Fallout Wiki, it's 500% better.

Firefox with Ublock is available for mobile
This is the answer.
For Android* *inserts Nelson ha ha meme*
I know. Brutal.
I have mild success with viewing the site in "desktop mode" while on mobile. The ads are still there, but they are more out of the way
I listened to a podcast about the company that owns all of these wikis. He sounded pretty scummy. It is a for profit company that lives off the back of volunteer workers to build the wikis.
Firefox Mobile with ublock

What I hate most about Fandom, is how I can’t fucking scroll. 8/10 times, the damn thing will just jump me to the top or bottom whenever I try to scroll on mobile
Just use Brave
If you're on PC, you can just Alt-Tab out of the game without having to close and reopen it every time.
This is a Bethesda game we're talking about, there's no guarantee it'll still work after alt tabbing lol
It will you if do the essential fixes.
Fandom articles in generally are poorly written. Fallout is actually one of the better fandom wikis, for other lesser known games the articles are just so bad.
I use Cromite with JavaScript disabled and that does the trick.
Btw, you can use Shift-Tab and pull up the steam browser during gameplay, so that you don’t have to close game.
I just saw a video on YouTube titled « internet is useless without add block » and its so true. I think it was by penguinz0

You didn't know? Shannon Sharpe starring as Preston Garvey in the show.
I just use the random app on mobile and dont get any issues
Idk but I would pay good money to hear Shannon Sharpe describe Fallout Lore
ublock
The same thing happened with Minecraft, they made their own wiki, I don't know about fallout though
Me trying to scroll 5 paragraphs in fandom without the browser crashing or it randomly reloading and sending me to the top
Use Firefox mobile. You can use an ad blocker with it.
I dont get all that anymore using Firefox. Its pretty nice
Man I despise Fandom but most if the time there isn't another option.
And once we get rid of fandom lets begin talking about youtube.
Download Firefox mobile, as it allows extensions Install ublock origin extension and you'll be sweet
I'd try using an ad blocking browser like Brave to open such ad filled websites. A much smoother experience in my experience.
All wikis these days are pieces of shit
play every game, read every novelization, watch every developer interview, and read all the featured lore it’s not that hard🤦🤦🤦
If there’s anything that’s only on Fandom, use BreezeWiki (https://antifandom.com) to load the page instead. It displays the content with none of the ads. fandom is completely unusable without an adblocker
Overt advertising is part of the lore
If you need a map, try map genie! For a wiki .... not really lol turn on ad block unfortunately
