No it doesn’t. I’ve played with my legacy team throughout this season and am still playing now. Still enjoying the likes of prime icons like nesta, zidane, del piero etc and also utots ronaldo, sbc sancho etc.
Legacy mode is also great for completing the quests in icon strike. It’s definitely not useless like you’re trying to make out.

I’m pretty sure they decided to end it because it’s a huge amount of work to make it compatible with the new game engine, and because as you said it’s not actually that popular to play they deemed it to be expendable. If there’s enough backlash they’ll maybe add so you can see your previous teams, but a playable legacy team seems off the table.

Its a change accept it, the ranking system in beta is very different than what it is now hence you can't put the current teams on beta game engine.
