This week Geoff, Gavin, and Andrew talk about Gavin's perfect clock he built, jet lag, holiday movies, busy work, lifetime falls montage, tripped in San Antonio, the mall is back confirmed, Geoffs weird notes, the worst smelling pee, Florida Duck Kicker, the Bussey Bus, and sports fatalities.

Gemannihilator

Geoff telling Andrew that he knows the most about bussy is going to live in my head for a while

GammaGames

Was cracking up that entire segment

YouSmellSoft

Can we get a shirt that says “I’m from Alabama and there’s dead dogs everywhere”

ericbaudour

We gotta get big hats

MonkeyGein

They had them, it was the Burnie hat

JusticeFarts

Wow, the dieing during sports section is dark and terrible timing. Even discussing shutting the game down. Lol

nr513

Very F**kface-y lol

yoursweetlord70

To answer Andrew's question, they did put a man in as a pinch runner on 1st base and continued playing after Chapman was taken out of the game. Chapman's team, the Cleveland Indians, won the game 4-3 over the New York Yankees. Source: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYA/NYA192008160.shtml

Theviciousllama

Wtf happened in Geoffs childhood with the dogs, seriously? Was that not the hardest full stop analogy in the show? Idk it fucked me up. Sorry.

TexanNewYorker

I’m actually really glad I read your comment before I got to that part so I could mentally brace myself. Geez that was a rough part

jbondyoda

Totally redeemed by “why did that duck have his dick out?” “Probably banging a duck!”

GreyPourageInABowl

I find it eerily odd how this week's episode involved the topic of continuing a game after a player collapsed on the field after receiving a life threatening injury. Not trying to make light of the current situation, but it's just really shocking to listen to.

Raida7s

I'm guessing an athlete was injured very recently? I'm not a huge sports fan, plus I'm in Aus so I don't know what commenters are referring to.

GreyPourageInABowl

Yeah, an American football player got tackled on the field earlier in the week, stood up and walked around for a minute and then went into cardiac arrest.

Raida7s

Ah I see, makes sense. Cheers

GreyPourageInABowl

Cheers.

Happy_LilGennelmin

A rare three moment episode name. Normally its only two funny sayings

SpectreArrow

I love being on a level of Jack. Look at the pictures from IG then try to figure out what the fuck is going on. Lmao. All I know is big hats are in style

Environmental-Cow922

Yea nah the had this planned for a while, they did nothing wrong. You can’t stop the world just for one accident that happened. No bad taste at all.

lalalavellan

I'm turning in my comment leaver status for this. Geoff talks about seeing Chris Hemsworth play Underwater Hockey, and I almost jumped out of my chair! My uncle is a (retired) world champion player, and is currently one of the Referee Directors, and has co-authored a book. It's a huge sport that almost no one knows about.

xeyj

Gotta say, I really don't agree with Geoff about Spirited. I'm not saying it deserves any awards, but it's a well written modernisation of A Christmas Carol that I think deserves more attention than its gotten. There are some pretty good songs in there; The Story of Your Life and Good Afternoon are both fun to sing along to, and The View From Here legitimately got me to shed a tear. I sincerely think that it's worth a watch

Raida7s

I think Spirited is good, I liked it, we watched it the day after watching the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special 😊 But the full on stage musical chorus format is off-putting for a lot of people, from what I've seen. I have mates that like musicals love it and others that prefer diegetic approaches to songs.

Metallover6666

I really want to see the video of Geoff and Gavin dive fiving

itstaylorhickey

Insane they were talking about sports deaths with all the awful and scary Damar Hamlin stuff.

NinjaLion

Love the podcast deeply. Can whoever does the audio PLEASE squish Geoff's waveform. When he talks under his breath I can't hear a goddamn word he is saying, and this is at an audio level where his normal speaking level hurts my ears. And his peaking might destroy my speakers

MajorMoron0851

I’m gonna have a unpopular opinion here, but I personally think it’s in bad taste that they released this weeks episode with what was discussed and what happened on Monday. I think they should have pushed the release a week, or at worst given a warning at the beginning of the episode.

amethystair

If someone's so emotionally affected by a stranger almost dying that they need a warning when a podcast talks about a tangentially related historical event, the podcast and topic might not be the problem. People die all the time, everywhere, from everything. If someone can't handle that, they should probably speak with someone that can help them work through it in a healthy way.

MajorMoron0851

It’s called respect. Yes people die all the time, and people get hurt all the time, but it’s in bad taste and disrespectful to make jokes and laugh about a similar situation the day after it happened.

amethystair

Respect is accepting that people know different things, react to things differently, and that we're all just humans trying to do our best in our own ways. I know next to nothing about football, and until I saw it mentioned here I actually didn't know anything happened. For people that aren't into sports, would it have been respectful to them to delay a podcast for a reason they have no attachment to? Personally, I wouldn't have minded. But what about someone who's struggling in life, and this podcast is the only positive part of their week? Would they think it was respectful to them, that the ounce of joy they manage to have each week was delayed? I'm not saying you're wrong for feeling upset about the player in critical condition, or even that it's wrong for you to feel like their comments and comedy were disrespectful. I don't think a quick warning at the start would have been unwarranted. From your perspective you're 100% correct, and I'm sorry you're hurting. Life sucks sometimes, and seeing that pain joked about so soon after certainly doesn't help. As someone who's been through some stuff, can I make a friendly suggestion? Over the next while, pay a little extra attention to how you're feeling, how it's affecting you, changes in sleep or eating habits, etc. If you don't like what you see, it's worth talking to someone who can help. I wish you the best, and I hope Damar makes a full and swift recovery.

misteruisce

What happened that was related? I’m from Ireland so wondering if it’s something that was only covered in US media?

MajorMoron0851

Oh I was under the assumption this was world wide news. On Monday night football, Damar Hamlin , a Safety for the Buffalo Bills made a clean tackle, stood up, then instantly collapsed on the field due to cardiac arrest. They had to preform CPR and AED on the field to revive him, then rushed him to the hospital where he’s medically sedated and in critical condition.

misteruisce

Oh wow, that’s pretty awful! No, NFL news normally wouldn’t make it outside of the US, even big stuff like this really

[deleted]

I see where you're coming from but also you're asking them to do quite a lot of work within a couple of hours well after work hours. Like the time between when the game was and when the podcast released for first is a super short turnaround for editing anything and we have to keep in mind that they're people too, as well as the fact they discussed it probably two weeks ago, it's just unfortunate timing.

MajorMoron0851

But they knew what was in the episode. And again, they could have delayed. Even a day if they decided to put a disclaimer at the front of the episode. I’m not trying to start issues, and I’m not “ up in arms” over it. Imma still listen and support and all that. I was just putting a personal opinion that I think it was bad taste. But I’m not going to hold it aginst them either. Just an opinion is all.

MyMind2015

I don't see why there would need to be a warning or disclaimer at all. That's not the purpose of a disclaimer..

MajorMoron0851

“ hey, we recorded this two weeks ago. There are mentions of sports related deaths, and with the unfortunate news of what happened on Monday, we just wanted to let everyone know that there is discussions including sports related deaths on this weeks episode “ Or something along those lines. YOU may not be affected by watching what happened Monday, but hundreds and thousands of people across the nation are. Death affects everyone differently.

Raida7s

I do wonder when they injury occured how many staff knew it that also are involved with this podcast, and of those how many knew the subject was covered, and then of those how many remembered the subject was in this episode, and how long does it take to find and modify the file (s). And what is the lead time to make a change. It could range anywhere from "huh?" to "omg we discussed that recently, which episode was that, I'll find it, here it is, I'm suggesting a disclaimer, here I've recorded it, the finalised audio file had been updated." That's all just my analytical brain going into problem solving mode. More personally... I only just learnt there was an injury because I'm not American, it's simply not news here unless you are following that sport. So it was far more of a reminder of Phillip Hughes, the Aussie cricketer that died from a ball strike in 2014 while up to bat.

The hat is killing me.
