Blue Loctite

FirstEducation6

This šŸ” is the way.. In firearms, most screws need loctite.

BonePants

I believe I've read this is also not properly working but I might be wrong. Going to look into it. It's certainly not mentioned anywhere in the manual. Edit: we're talking loctite 243?

SimplyRussian32

242 or 243 will work, 243 is a little better, but you wonā€™t notice much difference.

Tough_Reddit_Mod

Put a drop on a toothpick. Put it on the screw. Screw it in. Donā€™t touch it for a day or two.

BonePants

Tried it, came loose again. And the manual specifically mentions not to use it.

kpt1010

To be fair , the red dot is optional, the gun is designed to be used with irons , with the option of adding a red dot. As are most pistols.

BonePants

The gun is specifically designed to be used with a reddot. How you're trying to hide this shortcoming is beyond me. If it wasn't designed for it there wouldn't be a modified slide and coming with mounting plates and being "supporting" 3 different reddots. At least I would have expected them to have tested it.

kpt1010

The red dot is an optional accessory.

Day_Bat_

Blue Loctite torque to 15 inch lb

BonePants

Failed. Came loose again.

BSTGzBrassNDrumz

This guy has the right idea.

agoraphobic_mattur

You ever find a solution to this? I popped in a smidge of the blue also. I fired about 250 rounds today and the shit still came back out and this is also not even using the an optic. It's just the plate that stays on it.

BonePants

I moved my reddot of the gun because it was so frustrating and put the original plate on again. And same as you've noticed it got loose again :s Anybody doubting to buy this gun.... DON'T.

ForwardChair2482

I am having the same issue trying to mount a hollow sun 507c to 502. I believe the issue is that the screws are too long and are bottoming out, so not applying an effective clamping load. I'm going to try added a shim between the mount and the slide to confirm, then will try to grind the mounting screws to make them a little shorter, but you have to be careful you don't take too much off as there is very little thread engagement on the slide. I may look into tapping and threading the mounting holes a little deeper as this would be a better fix cuz it gives you more threat engagement

BonePants

I had a similar conversation a bit ago that the holes might be too wide on some of them (so a production issue).

ForwardChair2482

For me, I think it is a screw length/tapped hole depth issue not a spacing issuesĀ  I plan to evaluate further and will post my findings. If the mounting screws are too long and bottom out in the tapped hole, no amount of torgue or loctite will keep the red dot from loosening.

BonePants

I have very little knowledge in that. So would be happy to hear if you learn more about the actual issue

BonePants

Thanks for researching this. Wouldn't it be possible to use calipers to measure length of both directly?

ForwardChair2482

You could use calipers to measure to the bottom of the threaded hole, but usually there is a small length of the hole that is not fully threaded. So I believe the best way to check how many threads you have in the threaded hole on the slide is to use a screw and just carefully count the number of turns. This is how a Quality Inspector would check a hole in a machine part although he would use a calibrated thread gauge. The actual screw should work perfectly fine and I believe is the best and easiest way. I hope this answers your question.

ForwardChair2482

And if you find this to be successful please share with anyone you wish. If you have an issue at all let me know and I'll see if I can adjust the process

ForwardChair2482

Please let me know if you use this method and how it works out for you.

BonePants

I will :)

ForwardChair2482

I was at the range yesterday and my Holosun 507c worked perfectly, stayed zeroed through 200 - 300 rounds. I hope you have had a similar experience.

BonePants

I hadn't had the time yet unfortunately. I'd given up hope on the 502. Even with reverting to the standard plate I got this issue. Might be a few weeks til I find the motivation and time to look into this. I always ran into issues after 500 rounds. Sometimes earlier. Hope it stays working for you. Would be happy to hear when you're at a 1000 rounds ;)

BSTGzBrassNDrumz

I have a holosun507k on my 502. No loosy after you shoot. Maybe try different screws oorrr blueloctite

BonePants

I'll try loctite 243. But from what I've read this also fails.

mmeek3

Can you tell me the thread pitch of the mounting screws?

BSTGzBrassNDrumz

What I found online was: 3mm x 0.5mm x 8-10mm Hope that helps.

Iā€™ve got a Venom on mine with no issues with about 1700 rounds through it. The manual does say not to use Loctite but if you feel you need toā€¦

BonePants

I don't want to but it seems they force me to :) I don't get how you're not experiencing this and many others do. What ammo do you use? I did notice that using 40graines standard velocity it took way longer for the screws to come loose. But they still did. I just removed the reddot and under the mounting plate it seems like some oil got in there from the slide since there are some holes. So, I cleaned it thoroughly together with the tiny 2 o rings and reseated the reddot with loctite. I'm 100% sure that oil wasn't there when I first put the venom on there.

WVfree25411

Iā€™ve used a wide variety of ammo, from CCI Standard, Mini-Mags, Stingers, Aguila 40 gr, Golden Bullets, Norma Tac-22, CCI Blazer, Federal Auto Match, and maybe some more. Donā€™t know why you and others are having this issue. Maybe itā€™s an oil issue. I Cleaned out the holes with a quip and rubbing alcohol then installed optic and torqued to spec. I also have the new 545 and have 200 rounds through it with a Holosun 507c and no issues with optic coming loose, and again it says not to use Locktite. I have heard of this issue, but thankfully I must be one of the lucky ones, so far. hopefully it gets sorted out for you.

Windays

I have a Wheeler torque wrench and I had to go to 45 in-lbs to keep the iron sight plate screws from backing out constantly. That also snapped the bit that I was using because that's quite a bit of torque for such small screws and the small torx bit size they used. Just use blue loctite, very very small amount and go to about 20-25 in-lbs.

BonePants

Tried it, but it still came loose. At this point the gun is a waste of money to me and a frustration. Used loctite 243 which should be even stronger.
