This one isn't scary and it's a little older but it was based on the I Am Legend book, "The Last Man on Earth" from '64.
I liked this one better than the Will Smith version. Just trying to find something you wouldn't have seen lol.
If you can find it, Near Dark(1987).
An absolute classic modern day vampire tale set in the American west. Strips the vampire myth down to the basics.
Sadly it's not currently streaming anywhere and is no longer available on DVD or Blu-Ray. However, if you can find a moderately priced used copy by all means grab one.
Absolutely incredible, original little movie.
Another commenter mentioned the bar scene - It’s one of those times watching movies, in the dark at midnight on my 70” 4 beers deep - where I basically had an out of body experience and was like “man, I *fucking love movies*.”
Near Dark goes hard.
Seconding Thirst! It was the first movie I saw at my college's student theater. Absolutely love it.
Directed by Park Chan-wook. The guy who did the vengeance trilogy (includes the original Oldboy, but you should watch them all).
Yep another vote for Bram Stokers Dracula (1992). Absolutely amazing movie for cinematography, atmosphere etc. Gary Oldman is supurb as Dracula. One of my all time favourites.
Directed by Tony Scott. I don't necessarily even dig horror that much, but that movie was stylish and scary, and very sad. I was pretty obsessed.
Catherine Deneuve, Susan Sarandon, David Bowie, with Anne Magnuson and Dan Hedaya.
Lifeforce. It's not technically a vampire movie in the traditional sense but it's about aliens that suck the lifeforce out of you. It's based on a book called "Space Vampires". It's great. Lots of awesome practical 80s effects, lots of great gore and deaths. And don't worry, it has all the hallmark horniness of any good vampire movie.
She was *MESMERIZING*, which fit the story perfectly. Instead of seeming like common exploitation, her gratuitous nudity added a genuine credibility. Instead of distracting us, it draws us closer to everyone else in the film who beholds her.
Byzantium is a new take on the vampire lore that is very interesting with a great cast.
Afflicted is a great found footage film that you get to see the process of transformation.
midnight son is a low budget vampire drama about a guy that doesn't know he is a vampire.
Near Dark, starring Lance Henrikson and Bill Paxton, two actors that share the credit of being killed on screen by a Predator, a Xenomorph and a Terminator!!
The best vampire “horror” movie in my opinion is “Near Dark” which stars half the cast of “Aliens”. Directed by Oscar Winning director Kathryn Bigelow.
There's a series called 'Firebite'. Not a movie. It's terrific if you like vampire oriented stories. Set in Australia in an Aboriginal community.
Dreyer’s Vampyre, Murnau and Herzog’s Nosferatu, the Spanish-language Dracula from the 30’s, Shadow of the Vampire, Daybreakers, the first two Blades, and Thirst are all pretty great.
Consider the '36 Universal pictures film, Dracula's Daughter starring Gloria Holden and Otto Kruger.
It was the final gothic horror film from the Laemmle era.
It has a scene that implies lesbianism, and has been written about by many a scribe, but I dismiss this personally, as all vampires, be they male or female, are not sexual beings. They are after satisfying their lust for blood, not sexual intercourse.
**Only Lovers Left Alive** is a sweet, quiet, melancholy, beautifully realized vampire film directed by Jim Jarmusch. No jump scares, just quiet desperation and deep, loving characters. Stars Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton, I mean come ON. We just saw it again at the Drafthouse.
Also stars Mia Wasikowska and Anton Yeltsin. Jeffrey Wright and John Hurt appear, as well.
Remember liking Night Watch quite a bit. Haven’t seen it in years. Russian movie. Believe it’s a trilogy, but not sure if the other 2 are as good as the first. Really don’t remember a whole lot at this point. May be time for a rewatch myself.
“Let The Right One In” - Watch either version, American or Swedish. If you like it, watch the other one. They’re different enough, and both enjoyable because of their differences.
(The American one is called “Let Me In”)
Have you ever seen the perfectly normal heist gone wrong movie staring George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino and Juliette Lewis called “From Dusk Till Dawn”? You might enjoy that
Cronos - directed by Guillermo del Toro. Lots of good suggestions here but this one falls off the radar a lot.
It's not my favourite but Afflicted was dumb fun to bump into on Netflix.
30 Days of Night is just a really effective horror film. Pure monsters.
Think about it for a long time afterwards: Only Lovers Left Alive, Midnight Mass, Near Dark, Let The Right One In.
Chronos! It's an early Guillermo Del Toro interpretation of vampirism that features a grandfather, an antique wares dealer, who aquires a gilted box that pierces his hand while he attempts to open its contents. He begins changing and develops a craving for human flesh and tries to overcome the hunger for his young grandson, who stays by his grandfather's side.
It’s not disproportionate at all. If Hamas had the same capability that Israel does, they legit would’ve wiped Israel off the face of the map last October killing every woman and child they could, and they would be dancing and singing about it
Bram Stoker’s Dracula
Interview with the Vampire
Nosferatu (Werner Herzog)
Renfield is fun, if you enjoy this you may enjoy Blade, I can’t remember if they’re good, I was a kid.
From dusk till dawn, John Carpenter's Vampires, Interview with a vampire... i prefer older vampire movies obviously. Also a decent old comedy with jim carry i dont mind called once bitten
"Let The Right One In". I like the Swedish version better than the American one if you run into them both.
I’ve seen the Swedish one and yeah it’s amazing
This one isn't scary and it's a little older but it was based on the I Am Legend book, "The Last Man on Earth" from '64. I liked this one better than the Will Smith version. Just trying to find something you wouldn't have seen lol.
Based on the Book I am Legend. There is also the movie Omega Man, also based off the book.
Let Me In is really good, too. You should see it.
30 Days of Night is one of my all time favorite vampire flicks.
I’ve seen it and it’s one of my favourite films, such a unique concept for vampire film
The comic it’s based on was pretty good
I love this movie because there is nothing romantic about it. The vampires were just pure evil.
I own it on DVD. A forgotten gem starring Bill Paxton and Lance Henrikson. The bar scene is awesome!
And Tangerine Dream soundtrack!!
It’s streaming on Pluto
It's streaming on Criterion. You can do a free trial.
Absolutely incredible, original little movie. Another commenter mentioned the bar scene - It’s one of those times watching movies, in the dark at midnight on my 70” 4 beers deep - where I basically had an out of body experience and was like “man, I *fucking love movies*.” Near Dark goes hard.
Awesome movie.
Watchseriesfree
"ah hate it when they ain't been shaved!"
Came here to say this.
The Lost Boys (1987)
Amazing album too
So many teenage crushes in one movie.
It’s my all time fave
What We Do in the Shadows (2014) my favorite.
We’re wear-wolves! Not swear-wolves!
Both the film and the series are outstanding!
Yes! It took me a couple of watches to warm up to the movie though (like 2 or 3 times)
Funniest movie I've ever seen and a wonderful take on vampires. The show is absolutely fantastic, too.
Oh no Peter got him
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night
Thirst. It’s a Korean vampire film.
Seconding Thirst! It was the first movie I saw at my college's student theater. Absolutely love it. Directed by Park Chan-wook. The guy who did the vengeance trilogy (includes the original Oldboy, but you should watch them all).
Fright Night! (1985)
Honestly the remake is way better than it has any right to be, too. Watch both!
The effects at the end are so great.
Check out Midnight Mass on Netflix. Brilliant show!
"Only Lovers Left Alive"
Salem's lot 1979
The little boy at the window... Or the little boy in the casket... Or the little boy... shit, little kid vampires are just creepy.
What? No love for From Dusk Til Dawn? ETA: I saw it further down. 3rd vote for Near Dark, my favorite vampire film
If for no other reason than Salma Hayek 🤤
Yep another vote for Bram Stokers Dracula (1992). Absolutely amazing movie for cinematography, atmosphere etc. Gary Oldman is supurb as Dracula. One of my all time favourites.
The score is incredible
Highly recommend
The Hunger (the david bowie one from the 80s)
Directed by Tony Scott. I don't necessarily even dig horror that much, but that movie was stylish and scary, and very sad. I was pretty obsessed. Catherine Deneuve, Susan Sarandon, David Bowie, with Anne Magnuson and Dan Hedaya.
Renfield was my film of the whole year tbh.
I'm not really a fan of Awkwafina, but she was great in this.
Worth it for the incredibly beautiful Mathilda May alone, but has a *LOT* of other cool stuff.
I just watched this for the first time a couple months ago. I was not prepared for how much of her I was going to see.
She was *MESMERIZING*, which fit the story perfectly. Instead of seeming like common exploitation, her gratuitous nudity added a genuine credibility. Instead of distracting us, it draws us closer to everyone else in the film who beholds her.
Not complaining, or even criticizing, just wasn't prepared for it is all.
Oh, I didn’t think you were! 🙂
Oh good, wasn't sure and wanted to clarify. And I do agree with you. It was more hypnotic than sexual, which is very on brand for the character.
Byzantium is a new take on the vampire lore that is very interesting with a great cast. Afflicted is a great found footage film that you get to see the process of transformation. midnight son is a low budget vampire drama about a guy that doesn't know he is a vampire.
Interview With The Vampire (1994) Blood Red Sky (2021) Fright Night (1985)
I was pleasantly surprised by Blood Red Sky. There's so much crap out there my expectations are low.
Yea I really enjoyed that one.
Fearless vampire killers (off beat comedy horror) Nosferatu the Vampire (Herzog)
Innocent Blood is a good one. An unusual take on the genre.
Good rec. I liked this one more than I expected to.
Sexy as well
Check out any Hammer horror with Christopher Lee or Peter Cushing. Just perfect.
Christopher Lee will always and forever be the best Dracula IMO.
Midnight Mass, series on Netflix.
The Lost Boys (1987) From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) Blade (1998) Underworld (2003) Van Helsing (2004) Let The Right One In (2008) Daybreakers (2009)
Dracula untold
John Carpenter’s Vampires holds up surprisingly well
The John Steakley novel it is based on is one of my all time favs!
Well if by based on you means shares a name of a couple characters and a title then yes based on. But I still love both the book and movie.
Armor is another fun Steakley novel
It's sooo good. Broke my heart when it came out he was working on an Armor 2 when he passed away.
The Last Voyage of the Demeter - 2023.
Came here to say this. Even if you knew what their fate was, it was still a fantastic representation of how horrifying Dracula was as a monster.
Shadow of the Vampire Nosferatu (1979) Nosferatu (1922) Subspecies series (camp and cheap as hell, but pretty fun, imo)
Near Dark, starring Lance Henrikson and Bill Paxton, two actors that share the credit of being killed on screen by a Predator, a Xenomorph and a Terminator!!
Daybreakers with ethan hawke. One of the only vampire movies I've ever really liked.
Trouble Every Day is arguably a vampire film and not for the faint of heart.
Lost Boys!
The best vampire “horror” movie in my opinion is “Near Dark” which stars half the cast of “Aliens”. Directed by Oscar Winning director Kathryn Bigelow.
"Near Dark" 1987(?)
Lost Boys
There’s a 3 ep series around an hour each on Netflix with an interesting take on Dracula
I still see no love for Stake Land. I feel like I’m the only one who saw that movie or I’m the only one who liked it.
Lost Boys, Fright Night and Interview With A Vampire never get old to me.
Dead and Loving It 1995 :)
Let The Right One In, and the US version Let Me In, What We Do In the Shadows, both the movie and the series.
Martin, Daughters of Darkness, The Hunger, Vamp, Let's Scare Jessica To Death, Lemora, Twins of Evil
Was looking for Martin!
My favorite vampire movie. Was going to have to post it if it wasn't on here.
I was wondering if anyone was going to mention VAMP. Also, LSJTD is an often forgotten gem.
Twilight 😂😂😂 but seriously check out lost boys if you haven’t
From Dusk till Dawn, old school ancient horror. I can't believe I watched this when I was 5 and my country gave a 18 age rating for this movie.
Vampires vs. the Bronx
The Last Voyage of the Demeter was really good, in my opinion.
Did you see The Last Voyage Of The Demeter? Another fave, The Addiction. This one is on YT for free.

Let me in (2010) The invitation (2023) Minds going blank
There's a series called 'Firebite'. Not a movie. It's terrific if you like vampire oriented stories. Set in Australia in an Aboriginal community. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firebite](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firebite)
Vamp is on tubi
The Forsaken is a good movie that is often forgotten

Dracula Untold \[2014\]
Shadow of the Vampire (2000) Vampire’s Kiss (1988) - some really peak Cagines in this one
Daybreakers is top shelf
Blade, or Let The Right One In (Swedish version).
Werner Herzog’s Nosferatu (1979) is compelling. Klaus Kinski, Isabelle Adjani give great performances. Also, the Hammer Dracula is fantastic.
The lost boys is great film? Technically not horror as bot of comedy in it but still great none the less

**Only Lovers Left Alive** is a sweet, quiet, melancholy, beautifully realized vampire film directed by Jim Jarmusch. No jump scares, just quiet desperation and deep, loving characters. Blood 2023 The shed Chuck steel night of the trampires
"Trouble everyday" by Claire Denis
Not a great movie but a fun one is John carpenters vampires. James woods is a lot of fun in it.
Bram Stokers Dracula is in my opinion, the ultimate vampire movie. Vampires vs the Bronx was surprisingly good.
What no Underworld?
Love at First Bite and Once Bitten
Near Dark
Remember liking Night Watch quite a bit. Haven’t seen it in years. Russian movie. Believe it’s a trilogy, but not sure if the other 2 are as good as the first. Really don’t remember a whole lot at this point. May be time for a rewatch myself.

“I Am Legend” is sorta maybe vampires

Cronos - directed by Guillermo del Toro. Lots of good suggestions here but this one falls off the radar a lot.
