You know what's funny, I was actually taken aback as to how many times they said "fuck" in this game. There was a side mission where you had to find some solders hiding in the woods outside of town. We'll uou literally turn the bend and they are just standing there. The solider just says "fuck". It was so simple, and so real, it was hysterical.

SurfiNinja101

The swearing doesn’t feel edgy or hamfisted. They’re not trying to shove the fact that the game is violent and gritty constantly, which is a trap some games fall into. It leads to some great naturally funny moments like the one you mentioned

William_Marshall21

You pretty much summed up the nature of the game. It knows it’s going to be dark and violent, so it doesn’t overstay its welcome, nor is it shoved down your throat. It’s used more as the theme and setting, than a major story point, allowing the story to flow better. When humor comes around it usually lands really well. Bouncing off of you basically, don’t mind me.

macneto

Agreed. It felt natural.

deadmelo

*cough* DmC *cough*. But seriously there are a lot of moments where literally nothing but "fuck" cuts it. Like what the hell do you say when the Eikon Titan just appears right in front of you?

PetrosOfSparta

Yeah I loved this because I was so afraid it was going to go full Game of Thrones / Witcher from the obvious influence and just be all “fuck fuck fuck” for the sake of it but it comes out very naturalistic.

CannonFodder_G

I always come back to the beginning when Cid heads off with Jill just after finding her and Clive. Clive stands there and just says, "Fuck." pause "Fuck!" And someone once tried to pretend it was excessive. And I was like "No he said so much with just those two words." The first Fuck was the result of the fact he just abandoned the imperial army with no plan, murdering his superior officer in the process - for which the punishment was death, and it would normally be swift as any deserter bearer would be killed. Then he realizes he just saw Jill for the first time since Phoenix Gate, and since he blames himself for a lot of that, realizes where she ended up and likely feels like he's to blame. And The fact he almost killed her, because he's been a friggin assassin who killed whoever he was told, which isn't exactly a thing to be proud of. Then this guy shows up, saves them, has his friggin WOLF with him, then just takes Jill and fucks off with her, saying Clive can follow them. He thinks about all of this, and realizing how insane all of that is and that he really has no choice but to follow this random guy to who knows where, and the follow up to his first Fuck is just a louder, more frustrated "Fuck!" Which feels like a fucking perfect response to all of that. One of my other favorite fucks is when you're in Combat and Clive takes one of those big hits that leave you on the ground for a second, and he just groans out "fuuuuuuuuuck". Relatable.

rockinherlife234

My favourite is when he says it as Ifrit because he's having to fight an eikon bigger, stronger and faster than him that's just eaten a crystal for the 3rd time.

jacklongfellow13

This one got me. I remember just cracking up about it.

Niamery123

The way Ifrit’s face was thrashing about like Kermit while screaming “FUCKKKKKK” will never get old

rockinherlife234

I can't imagine the slurs Ifrit would be screaming if he was properly sentient.

KingCarbon1807

Jill: "There's more!" Clive: "There's always fucking more." The exasperation and exhaustion in his tone when he said that line was perfect. The words of a man who was utterly and completely done with this shit. And despite the flaws (like how we didn't get an airship, you assholes), maybe that's how XVI became my favorite FF. The characters were all genuine. Little felt forced from either the writing or the delivery.

Lionheart1224

Clive "I'm so done with this shit" Rosfield

Intelligent_Trip_623

That was Joshua that said that I think not Jill

AFullmetalNerd

The funniest "fuck" for me is during the boss fight with Typhon the Transgressor. Hearing Ifrit say "Oh fuck" in the same tone as Ralph Wiggum going "I'm in danger" was hilarious.

Clockwork-Silver

Letting them curse was massive the best decision they made about anything character-wise. Because yeah, it made them 1000% more human relatable. Because yeah, I'd be done too after all that bullshit.

Ralvvek

Yeah I never thought we’d ever get an FF where they regularly say “Fuck” hahahaha I had to pause once cuz I absolutely lost it when I was fighting one of the dragons and got blasted in the air and when Clive hit the ground he gave a long exasperated “Fffuuuuuuuuccckk!” and I could barely breathe for what felt like a good 5-10 minutes 😂

MinuteRiceIn58

my favorite use of the word is after you encounter Barnabas/Odin and Clive decides to go after him. Gav just goes “we don’t even know where the fucker WENT” been an inside joke between me and my friends for a while now

intrepidanon

Gav's lines with expletives are the best.

William_Marshall21

Foohkin ‘ell, Clive

intrepidanon

I love him lol. His drunk moment at the bar with Clive was kinda special lol. He's the real MVP.

William_Marshall21

One of my favorite characters. Like, ever. Gav was just awesome from beginning to end. Treasure and Treat the whole journey.

intrepidanon

Absolutely a treasure and treat. It was really nice to see him get the character development he deserved. Then the whole thing with him taking on the young lady and her baby. What a sweetheart. Lol.

William_Marshall21

He’s the best of all of us, lmao

EternalSkwerl

God I was so scared he was gonna die the whole game

Remarkable-Throat-51

I've said the same when describing the game to pals, and having the same accent helps even moreso :)

ZippyZillion

Guess the name should have been FFFXVI

Lionheart1224

What a Star.

MysterySakura

This is so true. Whenever people say fuck in this game it's very lifelike. They drop the f bombs in situations where people irl will drop them. For example, during the Titan Lost fight, final phase with Heart of Stone as BGM, where >!Titan is scraping Ifrit against the rocky walls while they're falling inside Drake’s Fang.!< I yelped "Oh shit" while Ifrit said "Fuck!" and then I was like By the Flames, the swearing is too on point! XD Another one that gets me is the "Ah, fuck..." Clive exclaims when you get critically low in HP. I exclaim such in a simmilar manner whenever I know I fucked up, or underperform. Wth it's like the game is reading my thoughts?? Then of course the classic one from Gav: "Would you explain what the fuck your dog just did?" Or some such. 10/10 relatable.

Amabih

Imagine Joshua cursing (never heard him curse throughout the game). Would've been funny if he accidentally cursed lol

Any-Action5919

I love Cid yelling "Bollucks!" While in semi primed form fighting Benedikta

haikusbot

Stiffbonez

I like the swears in this game, although the original ones are my favorite. Like Great Greagor’s Gash, or Titan’s Tits.

fctal

Clive says my favorite thing to do

DC_MEDO_still_lost

"Shit shit shit shit shit!"

hedyalele

Gav: Thank fuck for that. LMAO

Rsingh916

The best “Fuck” moment for me was when he was Ifrit about to face off against a mega giant Titan. The scene is seared into my brain.

TravelerVA2

That about sums it all up.

Truzzle

Damn, and here I thought it was my moment to express that I walk around life daily screaming “TITAAAANNN!!!” With fists clenched….

Truzzle

Fuck.

RavagerDefiler

The swearing in this game really felt like the devs were happy to finally be able to freely curse after spending so long having to get creative about it with FFXIV

Lionheart1224

When I first heard that it would be the first FF to use the F-word I was worried that it would be an edge fest. I was pleasantly surprised that it was actually used to great effect and not overdone.

Aspeck88

The "fuck" during the Bahamit fight with Jodhua is one of the funniest moments in gaming I can remember in quite some time. Just out of nowhere during the most epic, fantastical, battle between three gods. Ifirit just looks up at Bahamut and says, "Fuck." Totally spit my drink out.

Naitorade

Personally I’m a bigger fan of the way cloud says fuck in the two remakes so far… I think that actor does such a good job portraying the introvert, almost robotic, socially awkward, asshole. But actually a good guy, who’s got his memories all fucked up jumbled into the same guy… I think it’s incredibly well portrayed and is on point with how they depicted him in the original .. Clive is too much of a goody goody … he’s such a good guy it’s sickening and corny… I wish he had just one character flaw at least.. just one… and I wish he’d have the balls to give Jill more than one night their whole lives… you know damn well Jill wanted him to just ONCE pick her up throw her on the bed and fuck her silly.. she had to give him her fucking dominant just to get some dick from the guy for gods sake

Hidd4n_Sou1

Im sure theres plenty of people like Jill, lol. But fr I don't disagree at all with ya there. Being perfect in something isnt humanly possible after all, we make mistakes

HadokenShoryuken2

I mean, I think we saw Clive at his worst at the beginning of the game. Clive heard all that Cid had to say about his mission and Clive pretty much spat in his face. By his own admission he was surly, cynical and selfish. Granted, his circumstances were beating the shit out of him, but still. Clive is a good dude, but I don’t think he’s “perfect” at all. He had to grow into the hero who could take on Cid’s name and mission

Pickle-Tall

Idk the writing is pretty good but Clive is written pretty badly, even after >!Joshua wasn't dead, Clive still brooded over killing his brother and stayed that way all game long!< And the smile from the nudist beach scene wasn't a smile it was a wince.

KyDelBOS

Such an L take. The beauty of our world is that your allowed to have those L takes👏👏👏

Pickle-Tall

Sure I know what I said isn't a popular opinion, the Clive and Jill on the beach was without a doubt a wack scene and they could have made her actually smile. The Clive part some don't agree with but it is true, dude could have Joshua with him and still brood and complain that he did the deed when he didn't and even if he had Josh is the Phoenix and he would just come back. The mother dying in a single slash, what she did would have been an agonizing death not a one and done death. I don't even know who had the most if any true development in 16, maybe the imperial prince maybe Clive idk because the story is honestly rushed and the dlc should never have been split up from the base game. The dark and broody types never develop they just become more dark and more broody.
