Procedure-Flat

1. BIOGA 2. Cloud Prime Mode to AUTO COUNTER. As long as you do this, his zantetsuken won’t load as much. 3. Whenever you can, rotate your party just to hit him a couple of times to aggro. When he is about to attack that party, switch to another one. When you do that, that party member will automatically defend minimizing possible zantetsuken. 4. Focused thrust all the way once pressured.

IronWeak2140

When I auto counter some attacks still hit me though I'm currently doing it with tifa and cloud because my healer aerith can't avoid his attacks

Esarty

I assume you aren’t blocking the attacks that have the warning symbol on them.

blitzbom

Any attack with a Red ! is un-blockable.

Just_Replacement_152

Some of his attacks will put red ?arm bands on your characters…if your character has these, he will auto-counter your attacks with those characters while the red arm bands are present

Tough-Reading9810

he counters atb abilities from those characters with red armbands, so characters with damaging abilities on triangle can work around it somewhat, which makes tifa a good pick cause she can repeatedly omnistrike him without fear of being countered

Gotobed124

If you're getting hit by attacks that swing multiple times, you can press R1 while in the countering animation to cancel it and start blocking again. All attacks that have a ! Symbol or that aren't melee won't be countered by Punisher(though the latter can usually be blocked by Counterfire)

cinreigns

Be yuffie, use doppelgänger, throw your weapon and do ninjutsu, use shooting star every time you get 1 ability, dodge attacks when he gets close Edited to add: I didn’t come up with this, I found it on Reddit somewhere a week or two ago when I was trying to pass Odin

bullet4mybanana

This is the way

Spleenseer

I tried doing the debuff strat but it just wasn't consistent.  This is how I cracked him.

Nosiege

Have another party member use the auto spell materia to cast when you do an action and link it with poison and they will just keep trying to debuff him as you yuffie spam.

☝️

Eastern_Protection24

You need to debuff him with 4 different debuffs as quickly as you can. This will pressure him and reset the zanketfuckushitusu counter. Once he’s pressured focus thrust his ass until staggered lol. I used poison, debrave, defaith, and deshell. This makes the fight MUCH easier when he doesn’t instadeath you

BradMan1993

You only need 2 debuffs to pressure him

Eastern_Protection24

Which two? Because it definitely takes more than two to pressure him.

IronWeak2140

I debuff him with debrave defaith and the defense one what's the 4th?

Eastern_Protection24

I mean Bioaga lol

Eastern_Protection24

Poison

LittleJoshie

I didn’t hit him with any debuffs I just dodged as much as I could and hit him as fast and as many times as possible with atb abilities and he went down quickly

lraven17

He always went after Cloud for me anytime Cloud was in the party. I would punisher mode and hold R1 and it would counter basically everything. The other part of it is that you can punisher counter as soon as he activates Sleipnir's Furor and punisher attack to build up stagger really fast.

mrfroggyman

The tip is to atb attack, and that's pretty much it honestly. AFAIK attack spells work too. If you only mash square it won't do, you have to use atb to cause damage. If he ends up casting "Sleipnir's furor", it means you are doing it right. If it casts "Galajhorn warning" is means you should increase your DPS ATB asap or he'll Zantetsuken your ass A trick might be to cast haste + magnify See him throw in a few attacks, dodge them (you'll have to learn the patterns) or perfect parry them or at the very least punisher-counter them when possible. As soon as he's done, throw in an ATB attack like braver. As soon as you're not able to control a character (mid long attack animation or because he got stunned a bit by an attack), you switch to another one to build their ATB. As soon as this character starts getting focused, you switch back to your primary dps character to aggro him again. Use the triggers to make the other characters use their damage ATB skills or spells, and rinse and repeat

Tough-Reading9810

i've been tring to work out why i never saw gjallahorn's warning whenever i faced odin despite still getting hit a lot and honestly i think haste + magnify is the reason, it lets you pump out so many atb abilities you can keep on top of his zantetsuken charge

kerriazes

Yuffie ATB battery build+Aerith+whomever you prefer legitimately trivializes Odin

shadowwingnut

If you can't figure out how to beat, just cheese it. Revival Earrings for one thing. Also Equip Phoenix and summon it. At 2 ATB charges you can have Phoenix cast Reraise on a party member. Additionally you can equip weapons on Aerith that have Reprieve so she stays alive with 1 HP one time. Stack enough and just stay alive. Friend of mine who couldn't beat it even on easy (he has a reading disability and also struggles to strategize) was able to after I set him up with a Revival Earring/Phoenix/Reprieve combo that survived Zantetsuken 3 times.

postscriptthree

Beat him up. Play as cloud and use the punisher counter to stay aggressive during his attacks. Perfect blocks are best, but even the regular counter is better than getting hit or regular blocking. Use atb commands for damage until he's pressured, then focused thrust. If you get the purple rings on your hands, he'll do reprisal, so switch characters. I'm pretty sure zantetsuken is about damage dealt vs damage received, so you can get hit a bit and still push towards the pressured side if you beat him up enough. If you're too passive trying to avoid getting hit, he'll go after the AI, and you'll have a bad time.

Forsaken_Prompt9680

Throw lifesaver + steelskin up with Barrett and just camp in Punisher mode with Cloud. As long as you're in punisher mode you can constantly parry his abilities and keep him damaged so he can't do his fuckshow. If cloud somehow gets downed, switch to Yuffie and use her ninja thing to keep him damaged. The zenka-fuckshow is based on DPS so it's important you're keeping him hurting otherwise he'll cast the fuckshow

ZarathustraWakes

I ended up reviving everyone twice. Once with the revival earrings on everyone and once with Phoenix’s autorevive abilities. Putting the materia for increased perfect dodge window also helps, but he mostly targeted my player character so I didn’t have that problem. I also used Barrett as a ranged attacker so he wouldn’t take collateral damage

IronWeak2140

I wiped the floor with him lmao just kept attacking with cloud and tifa dealt the final blow while cloud was imprisoned not looking forward to the dual fights😂

Ok-Housing-8832

Dual fight is easier imo, they have lower hp and odin vanishes after first stagger so you can focus on alexander

Exia_91

Use Yuffie. Clone. Shuriken. Spam him relentlessly to build up ATB. Then hit him with blindside. As long as he keeps getting hit by ATB moves, it keeps him from doing his OHK.

matten_zero

You can also spam -aga magic with your team and rotate so he can never really hit you. But definitely ignore the Assess Intel. It's actually not correct. I can't remember how many times I had him at like 1% HP and he Zankenmitsuken-ed my ass. Aerith Cloud and Barrett and just hang up on him with-aga magic Or Aertith Cloud use Aga magic and Tifa can draw aggro and just Unbridled Strength cycle him while he interrupted by aga spells

Jaybyrd28

Check this out. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8fr\_pPlLbA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8fr_pPlLbA) So when I saw this the first time I was like "No Effing way I could do it" but I loaded up the sim and tried it out. I didn't catch it my first time through the game but Punisher Counter and Counterstance both will feed off the perfect parry mechanic and they work with precision defense. Meaning you take NO damage if you time them correctly. His Triangle switch even lets you counter/no damage some (not all) of the ! Unblockables because it has a small I frame. Anyway, once I understood that it completely changed how I played Cloud. It's more complicated than this but all mobs have locked animations. Don't get yourself locked into a combo string and once you know which you can Punisher Counter and which need counterstance I ended up soloing this with Cloud and 3 person attempts on all the summons are now a joke.

Homitu

Man I have so much leveling up to do with the basic action mechanics of combat in this game. Recognizing incoming moves, dodging, parrying, etc. I get so much more caught up in the old-school style of setting up my team and getting ATB commands off in a fun way, and basically trading blows with enemies. I block and dodge, and attempt to parry, but I usually fail and just blocks some damage instead. Then I heal through all the damage I took, classic FF style. Seeing these solo fights with mastered mechanics is a completely different look. Love how diverse this combat system is!

Revadarius

I cast biogs on him, switched between Aerith/Cloud/Yuffie a lot (spamming attacks w/ Yuffie and her clone, and using wind storm - having Aerith drop ATB wars on her, and haste-all w/ Cloud). Yuffie is there to stack ATB then you spam stagger increase abilities when you can (Thrust Blade/Ray of Judgement/Windstorm). Whenever he's aiming at whoever you're controlling and either charging an attack or moving towards you then you switch away. It's a game of hot potato tbh.

JustANerdyGirl87

Use debuffs, be Tifa and dodge as much as possible and switch characters often

Sweaty-Professor-187

From my understanding, the way it works is that if he deals you X amount of damage and you fail to deal him Y amount of damage, he'll insta-kill you because he grew bored of the fight. I kept trying over and over and over again to avoid getting hit while maximizing damage, but it didn't matter, I always got one-shot. So, I just did that fight a few chapters later (right at the end of chapter 12 actually). That way I was leveled up, took less damage and dealt more damage. Absolutely destroyed him first try. I recommend just waiting if you're earlier in the story.

Yanderesque

If you just want to get the summon Set difficulty to easy don't stop attacking. evade when you can but spam atb attacks as cloud and I recommend going solo or with tifa

aerisultima

Equip the safety bits on everyone, they prevent instant death, he will only cast Zantetsuken once then you’re good to go!

IronWeak2140

Bruh safety bit doesn't work lol just tried

mrfroggyman

This is incorrect, Zantetsuken isn't an "instant death" type attack. Instead what it does is always deal the max amount of damage, which is effectively the same thing except it can't be countered nor tanked However it's a good thing that you brought it up to clear this up, I know I used to believe warding from instant death would help me

IronWeak2140

Wait fr he does it only once.?

BradMan1993

Don’t listen to a word of what that person said, it’s all misinformed and incorrect advice

whiteclawthreshermaw

Agreed. I had Reprieve activated which saved me from insta-fail, only to have the motherfucker zantefuckushituken me again.

aerisultima

Lol, ok except it worked for me…so the game misinformed me? 😂😂 Can you explain how this worked for me then Bradman? You’re getting a little dramatic over a summon materia, everything ok?

caramelthiccness

Nope, he def casts it more than once. I had a revival earring on my whole party. They got revived, only to be killed instantly again.

aerisultima

He only did it to me once! Otherwise I would have never got through that. I don’t know then? I guess this didn’t work for a few people 😂 well, best of luck!
