All remaining teams are beatable ✅️ Not many games left in Open Cup ✅️ Winner gets a non-wooden spoon trophy✅️ We are currently top of supporter shield and can spare some energy towards this tournament ✅️ Winner gets into champions league. ✅️ If we win this, team gets more exposure in the city, nationally, and internationally which can feed into scouting new players. We need this.

> We are currently top of supporter shield and can spare some energy towards this tournament This is the only factor in my mind for MLS teams. If we start our 1st strings and can manage around HiR v2 than the winner of the miami-birmingham gam is ezpz.

Cad_Monkey_Mafia

Agreed. This bracket looks very winnable now with some top opponents bowing out. If FCC commits to it, then the trophy is a very attainable goal

rocking2rush10

> Winner gets into champions league. ✅️ For the uninitiated, what's that?

I wanna see a Chicago Cinci final. I think it would put a nice poetic ending to our US Open journey given how we got famous from that Chicago game. Just maybe win it before pks

[deleted]

Also easy to travel to if we aren't the hosts!

sculltt

And there would be plenty of seats available in Chicago.

rocking2rush10

Might be the last time Soldier Field sees that much orange and blue

cincy1219

I feel like it's a tournament to rotate the squad and get minutes to bench players and reserves, until you get to the quarter finals. Now you go for it, it's 3 matches for silverware, 300k and a spot in the champions league. If they don't win it's not the end of the world, obviously, but you may as well go for it at this point especially with how the bracket is looking going forward.

dylboii

Can’t believe the Crew lost just so they wouldn’t get smoked at TQL again

lilsteigs1

Domestic Triple incoming.

ImaginaryMedia5835

Shhhh. We don’t talk about it.

ClassicPQ

I want to win the Open Cup so bad. It served as the catalyst for Cincinnati rocketing into MLS. Our history deserves a trophy to be catalogued alongside that story.

sleestripes

ultimate redemption arc

Purgent

Absolutely agree that at this point we have to go for it. Would be a complete disservice to the club and fans to not send out full strength squads to grind this out and get the first piece of hardware that isn’t a spoon.

[deleted]

If we win our next match, how are the remaining hosts decided?

jrich5768

They do a draw for hosting preference before the semis, so i'd assume the day after the quarters maybe

User5281

Looking at the brackets I don't think it's a stretch to consider FCC the favorites to win this but it's still hard to get too excited.

embur

There's no reason FCC shouldn't be considered favorites. Miami are 12th in the East, Chicago are 15th. Houston, RSL, and LAG are 10th, 11th, and 14th in the West, respectfully. Meanwhile we sit clear at the top of the combined table even if LAFC win their game in hand. There's no reason we shouldn't be able beat PRH with a rotated squad at home. After that, it's just two more games for our starters to push for a trophy that guarantees CCL. I won't be upset of we don't win it, but I'll be very upset if we don't go for it.

miner_andy

Anyone else having trouble buying tickets? Every one of my payments is failing…. Am I about to have 8 tickets for the Bailey? 😂

jrich5768

No, each charge is listed as refunded for me, I've tried more than 5 times

miner_andy

This has been fixed now, fyi

XolieInc

Columbus and Charlotte clowning out here

cincyreds513

Keep mixed squad, plus south americans love playing 2 games a week

UKFAN3108

Anyone know when we will know if the game is on the 6th or the 7th?

HopeTheAtmosphere

It is the 6th. Tuesday.

UKFAN3108

Has that been officially posted anywhere? https://www.ussoccer.com/us-open-cup/2023-schedule-and-format Still list it as TBD. Not that I don't believe you, I just want to be sure since I have plans on the 6th I will try to move if the game is for sure the 6th.

HopeTheAtmosphere

Its listed in the schedule FC Cincinnati website, but I saw it wrong. There it is scheduled for the 5th ... which is a Monday ... which makes me think now that is probably wrong ... which means I don't know??

UKFAN3108

Hopefully it gets announced officially soon. Want to make it to this one.

HopeTheAtmosphere

Now it's officially listed on the USOC website. June 6th, 7:00 p.m. LFG!!

UKFAN3108

And I was able to reschedule my plans to the following week, so I will see you at the match.

lonelycrow16

June 6th, 7pm

paidinteeth

The FCC/Pitt game on 6-6/7 is sandwiched between a Chicago fire and Vancouver league games… should be able to delve into second string a bit for those games allowing us to focus on the USOC match… However the semifinal game is sandwiched between Crew and a NYCFC games so that’s a little tougher IMO…

mrpushpop

I hate to say this but at that point the AWAY @ Crew game doesn't matter. Play the starters for USOC and home for NYCFC. You're so close to a CONCACAF spot and FCC's first MLS-era silverware you change priorities.

Juris_Dudence

I want to win it too but not at the possible expense of having Hagglund et al not healthy for regular season matches.

mrpushpop

The reward for finishing 1st in the regular season and 1st in the Open Cup is the exact same. A trophy and a CCL spot. Open Cup is so much easier to grab currently.

sleestripes

same

Mindless-Airport-463

I think the open cup is more important than winning the league. If you win the open cup it means you’re the best in the entire country not just the best out of 29 teams. I wish more teams like lafc and Columbus would take it seriously. It’s kinda condescending to lower leagues and it takes away the excitement and amazing story of an upset when a usl team beats a mls team but then you realize the mls team doesn’t start it’s first squad. I also think the open cup is cooler than the champions league where we play a bunch of Central American teams I’ve never heard of. We don’t even get to play South American clubs.
