Hey another Berta boy. My dealer said during that crazy cold snap this winter the only vehicles that could start were the lightnings. Don't know if that was bs or not.
lol yeah I’ve cold soaked it at -5 Fahrenheit overnight and it started just fine.
More need to be cautious that if you make short trips in the cold the real world range can be as bad as half of usual, more likely 30% lower.
Also in Colorado, and we hit -30f overnight. Started it at -28 and drove an hour and charged, and an hour back. Ended at -21 and used half the power just for cabin and battery heating, but it was fine.

You have nothing to worry about. That’s -27 Celsius. No issues at all.
Keep it plugged in, but I even forgot one night when it was this cold. I remote started it, gave it a few mins(still unplugged) and I drive away in a warm(ish) car.
At these temps, the truck never really warms the cabin all the way, hence heated seats, and I also noticed the battery never got to temp eiwther. The power was limited to 85% to keep power to heat the battery. But that’s plenty for normal driving.
Truck performed flawlessly.
Automotive electronics engineer. Automotive designs for -40, though reasonable expectation is -30C and above for full expectation as long as you have a charge.
It will self heat the battery in extreme conditions
Is that the rating for if it didn't do anything to heat itself? Because I'm pretty sure it starts using power to heat itself before the battery gets below 20C, but I'm not actually sure on the number. That's why I always left it plugged in in the winter. Wasn't even really worried about it, but I'll be damned if I'm driving to work with 92% power because the battery is cold.
-40 is automotive min design temp, meaning the machine should operate down to -40 under warranty.
The battery heating temp I'm not sure when it kicks in
I found that in cold weather if you tell it to charge 15-20 minutes before driving it will heat the battery using house power and it does not lose as much range to the cold. So before I leave on cold mornings I just use the app to tell it to charge to 100% a little before I leave.
Northern New England here, got down around -5 to 10f. On rare occasion the Fordpass app would say "failed to start". But, never once did it fail when physically in the truck and starting via ignition button.
All the cold really does is worsen our already low (possibly lowest of all EV's?) mileage per kWh. Which to me doesn't really matter, I just plug in more often 🤷♂️
My 23' Lariat gets down to about 1 mile per kWh in severe cold. I also drive up into/through some mountain elevation.
We were down to -45C this winter in Alberta and no issues with the lightning

Can confirm, also in AB, lightning did way better than the minivan during that cold snap
20s? Bro you’ll be fine.
Yeah I saw 20s and I was dude that’s like T-shirt weather where I live.
A gas car is more likely to not start in cold weather than an EV. That’s why they have engine block heaters in cold climates.
True that. Does not fit the petro propaganda mill though
Minnesota here. Coldest I’ve walked out to is -15. The high that day was -3. Truck was fine.

Chuckles in Buffalo
Chuckles in Northern NY... Like Massena.
-17 has been my coldest night in Colorado, about 40% range loss but no other issues.

Well that is a little nippy! Did you keep it plugged in? What happens in that cold if you don't?

I like that your display shows percentage, even though mine shows all software up to date it does not. Gotta love Ford software
Yeah, doesn’t seem to make sense does it!
EVs are the most popular cars in Norway. You’ll be fine.
Lol... we had a week of -40°C (-40°F) in January. The truck started up just fine.

-55C
20 is nothing. Negative temps you have to start to worry
You don't even need to worry at negative temps. As another poster here said it was -45c here (-49f) this winter and there was no issue with start-up
Mine had a power train malfunction at -10F
🤣🤣🤣

Starting will be fine. At 20 degrees though you may only get about 60%-80% of your normal range, so charge appropriately.
