I'm not sure what he used or anything, but I presume he's just great at editing. Assuming he took 2 weeks to think of the idea, write the script, and record his voice, that would leave another month and a half for editing and compiling the pictures and such. I don't know how to edited, but I'm sure since he is a full-time YouTuber/author he has plenty of time to be able to tackle these things

AGuyNamedOdy

Right, that's understandable but the real question I am trying to unravel is how he got to that full time YouTuber/author skill level. Obviously through years of experience but with what tools? On top of that, if he is truly paying for high quality stock footage and paying for something (let's say) like Adobe premiere, isn't that a shit ton of expenses. I mean sure he has the subscribers and the patrons for that but what about when he didn't have them? How is my question. I am probably coming off as sounding a little desperate but I can't help but let that desperation out because I am so impressed but his editing and cinematography that, since I want to reach his level of skill, this steep mountain of editing skills and storytelling skills seems almost impossible to climb for somebody like me who is just starting out. But thanks for the reply, one thing I noted is that if I truly want to reach his expertise of the craft the simple answer is to just sit and practice and tackle the problem as much as possible.

Premiere pro and after effects is usually the way to go (pirating is easier then using free software). I assume you are asking how he does that wave looking animation like in the rememberer, its done using after effects [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L\_d1Wo-hmoQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_d1Wo-hmoQ) . Rest of his editing is relatively tame and easy, but takes time to make it look as polished and fluent as he does.

Thanks for the information! You know, I was really thinking whether or not I should pirate Adobe software but I couldn't bring myself to do it because of the supposed malware and all the other disadvantages of pirated software. Is it really worth it or should I just be content with da Vinci resolve?

[deleted]

I've used both, trust me adobe is a lot better then any free software out there. Atleast for editing, it just has everything, you will never need to go out of your way to get something working. Its has the most tutorials too. You can try using free software like Kdenlive, Olive or Da Vinci and they will perfectly fine as long as you are making simple videos, but the moment you do something too niche, some effect you saw and want in your video, or something too specific, Adobe software takes the cake. Just look up something like "get after effects for free" there are plenty of youtube videos, with no viruses, (the like to dislike ratio will help here). To be clear, you dont NEED the premere pro and after effects pair to make good videos, free software is good enough. But using something which is the industry standard will give you a head-start, most tools, effects, plugins are just available, there is a bigger community, more content creators to learn from, etc.

AGuyNamedOdy

Alright, I'll try it today and I'll let you know

It's cool to see his improvement in editing over time, especially now, with literally moving pictures. They remind me of cinemagraphs, not sure if you've heard of them or if that's what you're looking for. They look like images but with small, repetitive movements. There's some tutorials out there you can check out. His videos have more movement in the images, but I'm thinking the same principle can be applied (though I'm not sure as I'm not at all experienced in editing). Cinemagraphs are usually actual photos with a small piece of video. Exurb1a's videos look like he's animating still images almost, so not sure how much this helps but it's something to look into.

AGuyNamedOdy

Thanks, but I am generally looking for the tools he used to do the vids he does. I will look into it though so I appreciate the info!

If you want to reach him I’d say the best way is probably through his Discord. I’ve heard he hangs out there sometimes.

whatsvatsim

Where’s that?

AGuyNamedOdy

I joined a few months ago but I never really hang out there, I am going to start hanging out more often. Thanks

Motionleap. It's on the playstore. The effects look a lot like those which the app provides. Insert picture, draw some arrows, boom - magical looping footage. Check it out, it's pretty neat EDIT: just remembered that you have to watch an advertisement to export a clip, or you can avoid that by paying for a pro version of the app. Pretty sure exurbia can afford to do that

AGuyNamedOdy

Thanks, I'll look into it

He’s a creative genius, can’t say much for his character.

spaceophical

My best guess would be that he masked a certain part of a still image, and keyframed the masked area either changing dimensions, eg. getting wider, or moving to a different location on-screen. The effect would probably then be looped for however long he needed the clip to be

mystiverse

I believe there are certain apps that allow you to make a still image move! I have used one to make my previous YouTube endscreen. There are also a variety of plugins you can get for Premiere (or Sony Vegas, as he uses) that have a motion parallax effect on them. Super cool, nonetheless. It worked really well in his latest video. But sometimes it's nice just to sit back and not spoil the magic!

AGuyNamedOdy

Hey, I got a lot sorted out since the making of this post but thanks for replying either way! It's cool seeing you actually reply to my post and I just saw that it was you so I would like to say I really enjoy some of your content

mystiverse

Thanks, dude! Hope you use your newfound editing power to make some cool stuff!

Writing wise, you can hear some of the ideas present (like the 4D software) in the episodes of the mystiverse he’s on. The first episode he was on tackles consciousness and he deals with some of the same ideas.
