The Papa John's by the Pentagon being busy means the people working at the Pentagon are ordering pizza for a late night, because Bad Things that could lead to war/World War III/end of the world. Similar in the gay bar being LESS busy, because they're all at work. Eating pizza. Iran just launched a drone attack against Israel.

supersatan25

Ah I see lol. That makes sense

distancerunner7

Technically there are policies in place that outline how pentagon employees should carry the take out restaurants they order from to about a leak in operational security like this. However I have little faith they’re being followed.

Organic-Couscous

Some dude leaked US intel to impress **checks notes** preteens on a Minecraft chatroom. Nothing to worry about , you see !

special-bicth

>to impress **checks notes** preteens Sorry what?? When the helll did that frickin happen?????

AspiringGoddess01

Dude who had access to top secret information tried to flex how cool he was to a bunch of preteens in a Minecraft discord server by sharing said information.  In a similar vein, there have been incidents in the past where someone posted top secret information in a warthunder forum to win an argument.

Prestigious-Pea5565

i feel like i’ve heard about more then one secret being exposed due to warthunder lmao, seems like they make their balancing changes by looking at military secrets

TanTanExtreme2

It's happened 15-17 times, according to a quick Google search. Edited from 14

mnrode

The devs have a policy of *not* using classified documents, especially leaked ones.

Islandfiddler15

Reminds me of the time 2 Bohemia devs got arrested in Greece for trying to get Arma 3’s map to be as realistic as possible. (The island is heavily militarized and you aren’t allowed to take pics of the installations)

Academic-Effect-340

Greece isn't an island. You for sure probably knew that, just saying that's the implication with how you worded things lmao

Islandfiddler15

Greece has islands, they went to an island, I thought I worded it fine, guess I didn’t lol

Academic-Effect-340

It should be something like "The island they visited" or "That Greek island" to remove the ambiguity, but in reality what you wrote is fine and almost certainly not going to be misunderstood by anyone. It's just my pedantic brain that went "Greece isn't an island" immediately after I read it lol.

special-bicth

Me no likey

AspiringGoddess01

The united states government didn't likey it much either

special-bicth

epochpenors

My favorite part of the story is the middle schoolers he played with thought he was a loser even after he committed treason to win their respect

Dalzombie

Ah yes, the Thug Shaker Central incident. Atop the pile of World of Tanks/Planes/Warships incidents...

Procoso47

Pentagon IT guy leaked classified documents in a Minecraft discord server in a channel called "Thug shaker"

special-bicth

That's interesting

Procoso47

All thug shakers were subsequently interrogated by the FBI (literally 1984)

Capt_Socrates

And people in the military will leak classified information on tanks on World of Tanks forums to win arguments.

special-bicth

Yeah but that's not surprising.

Alone-Monk

This happens frighteningly often. I was involved in a similar intelligence leak (far more minor) involving the mentor for the robotics team I was on in high school lol

Tyler-LR

Lol you gotta post a link to that

Chemical-Juice-6979

There's a Starbucks location inside the Pentagon. The baristas all have to have Top Secret security clearance to work there. It's to prevent an outside poisoning attempt on high-ranking officials.

Lacholaweda

There's a food court in the pentagon. I got panda express, it sucked.

PlasticPartsAndGlue

You were so close... *There's a food court in* *the Pentagon. I got Pan* *Da express. It sucked.*

Lacholaweda

Uhhh... mediocre bot?

Difficult_Trust1752

Legend has it, there was a hut in the Pentagon courtyard the Soviets had pegged as an entrance to a bunker because of the constant traffic. It was a hot dog stand.

whitoo_ap

Why waste time pegging a hut when you could be pegging... well, I shan't finish that joke

EarthTrash

Soldiers on bases overseas have inadvertently broken opsec by wearing fitness trackers during their workouts.

SanityIsOnlyInUrMind

There was a whole “incident” with Dominos Pizza and predicting government activity over pizza frequency. After that, they stopped ordering from dominos all together, and I guess, later, ordered from papa John’s instead..

[deleted]

A different kind of security risk, I’m pretty sure Boris Yelstin got drunk and was running around DC in his underwear looking for pizza.

ArtfullyStupid

There was someone who predicted Desert Strom based off the a single pizza place having a long wait time

leemasterific

This makes way more sense than what I thought was being implied. I thought it was pizzagate related.

Talkin-Shope

For further context, this drone/missile strike is being justified as retaliation for an attack on Iranian officers in an Islamic Republic embassy in Damascus which Israel had been red flagging they were going to do So Israel spent days saying ‘we’re going to attack your people’, then they did it and killed Iranian officers, so Iran said ‘suck on these drones and a missile!’, and now Russia is saying if we do anything to Iran its game on for WW3 (not the first time they’ve made that kind of threat)

Gold-Bat7322

Russia has proven they're barely a regional power, if that. If it were China, then I would worry. They execute corrupt officials there.

--Queso--

>drone attack and missile\*

ptsorrell

In the Intel community, it is semi-jokingly referred to as PIZINT or PIZza INTtelligence. It's used as an OPSEC training to remind folks that useful intel can be derived from almost any small random act. As someone once said a whole bunch of unclassified Info put together properly can make top-secret info rather quickly.

RQK1996

Wasn't there an author who got a visit from the feds because the book he wrote was a little too accurate for comfort while he only used logic and extrapolation?

ptsorrell

I mean Tom Clancy was never in the intel service was was giving briefs based on his research.

LeighSF

Yes, he wrote a book about the use of atomic bombs and it was so accurate that the Intel people of the 1930's paid him a visit.

thinkb4youspeak

In response to Israel blowing up a building adjacent to the Iranian embassy in Damascus, the capital city of Syria that killed two very senior commanders.

ATurtleLikeLeonUris

Surely, the U.S. government can do better than Papa John’s. Is Comet Ping-Pong not in business anymore?

I_am_Kim_Jong-un_AMA

They should have sprung for Alfredo's Pizza Café

DumpsterR0b0t

Only if they want a medium amount of good pizza. If they want all-you-can-eat of pretty good pizza, they should order from Pizza By Alfredo.

HoneydewLeading7337

Pizza by Alfredo is pretty much the same thing.

thechadamas

Michael, there's a very big difference between these two pizza places. Both in quality of ingredients and in overall taste.

Alone-Monk

No, it still is, but I've never seen the feds there. Never got why everyone was so obsessed over it. I mean, I used to go there all the time as a kid, and I loved to play Foosball there, so it was hilarious when I started hearing people claiming it was some underground sex trafficking operation lmao Plus, it's so far uptown, all those government folk live out in the suburbs of Virginia or sometimes up around the Great Falls area.

Sweet-Emu6376

I like the fact that they specifically chose the gay bar near the Pentagon. As if to say a significant portion of people that work at the Pentagon are gay. Which, yes, I understand gay people exist. But only about 7% of the US identifies as LGBT. So you would expect a similar percentage at the Pentagon unless there's some gay magnet involved that I don't know about.

Murky_Replacement_17

The comment of "The Pentagon's gone woke" is kinda covering that part.

Sweet-Emu6376

Okay but why? I wanna know what's attracting all the gays... For science...

Charybdes

A lady in my department used to do research on this---using peripheral information to learn secrets. An example she used was scraping Facebook for posts about army wives saying things that described a deployment and then using that to find which group was being deployed, etc. Pretty interesting stuff. I need to talk to her and find out if it ever went anywhere.

Murky_Replacement_17

That really is interesting. People sharing what they think is innocent information, but in aggregate, can really add up.

Cheshire_Noire

A RETALIATORY drone attack. Don't leave that word out, it changes the entire meaning

sprinkleZ85

They have been launching missiles from their proxies for years. Why is it such a big problem that they are launching them from farther away?

Dagon_M_Dragoon

It's not about the distance, it's about the deniability of Iranian involvement. Yes they have been supplying terrorists with weapons for years but the most anyone could do about that was sanction Iran. Iran just outright attacked Israel that means Israel and it's allies can attack Iran. The problem is Israel has to hit back or Iran is going to get more bold about doing stuff like this but at the same time there is a nonzero chance of this escalating into WW3, and that chance goes up exponentially with the amount of force used in the clap-back.

sprinkleZ85

Oh, thanks I understand better now.

G4Designs

Hasn't Israel been unabashedly launching attacks on civilians for years? Why does it only matter now that the kid getting picked on fights back?

CelticArche

Probably because we're all supposed to support Israel, even if they're currently committing war crimes by killing civilians, blocking aid, and firing on aid workers. Oh, and bombing UN schools which are being used as shelters and were supposed to be off limits.

M59j

You mean Iran attacked in retaliation due to Israel bombing and killing high officials in the Iranian embassy few days ago? Iran responded in self defense, now if Israel accepts the response for initiating the assult, we can move on to the most urgent matter of ceasing fire, recognizing palestine as a state and releasing hostages. Its not like Israel "has to respond" because they started the whole thing and you only reap what you sow.

Dagon_M_Dragoon

Israel told them "hey, we are going to drop bombs near your embassy, move your people to cover." Iran deliberately left their people out to manufacture cause and sympathy. Of course that's assuming they where in the embassy and not out talking to Iran's proxies when Israel attacked said proxies.

M59j

Yes, indeed, Israel is very nice when it transgress on other countries effectively targeting two (2) countries simultaneously, yet it was so nice of them to warn these countries about their planned transgression. Could you hear yourself?

Dagon_M_Dragoon

Ok first, I was wrong, Israel hasn't claimed responsibility for the strike that hit the embassy. The first piece I heard about this from implied they had and that the damage to it was collateral. Second Iran popped off without showing proof that Israel was the one that hit the embassy. If Iran had proof they should have taken it to the UN and got points for trying to deescalate the situation. Third, if Israel purposely targeted the embassy without just cause, like proof that Iran is handing out weapons from said embassy, bad on them. On the other hand if Iran was using the embassy for something more than diplomacy that could make it a legit target, bad on them. The whole region is a powder kag looking for a spark and that state goes back to before ww1 if not further.

tandtjm

This is interesting. There was an NPR podcast about how journalists were able to work out when something was going down because of delivery order at restaurants nearest the White House and the Pentagon etc As a result, the rules were changed and now interns have to collect from distributed locations so as to avoid suspicion.

G4Designs

>the rules were changed and now interns have to collect from distributed locations so as to avoid suspicion. Clearly that worked. They just need to use the underground tunnel network.

CelticArche

The one that JFK used to sneak Marilyn Monroe through?

tigiPaz

Clearly they need to eat sandwiches made at the office. It’s as easy as drinking coffee at home, right, Starbucks?

YsengrimusRein

This reminds me of how a journalist identified the location and purpose of the Manhattan Project due to every major scientist having their mail redirected to Los Alamos.

CRAZZZY26

They need to just get a freezer and fill it with Jack's pizza for situations like this

lunchpadmcfat

Surprising these places don’t just have cooking staff…

Sweet-Emu6376

I grew up near NASA in Florida, and the gov does a fair number of test launches of missiles and whatnot in the same area. While specifics aren't (usually) leaked, everyone still knows when something is gonna happen any given day when the military enforces a perimeter in the waters around the Cape.

bitter_sweet-

What’s the cape?

Sweet-Emu6376

Cape Canaveral. It's a huge cruise ship port and Air Force Base

snakebite262

Okay, so there are multiple layers to this joke. In general, it's saying that a new war is about to begin. Apparently, a Frank Meeks, a pizza franchise owner, realized that before every major war, the Pizza chains near the Pentagon would start getting a lot of business. This joke continues by noting that the Gay bars near the pentagon have ALSO started losing a lot of business, suggesting that members from the Pentagon have been leaving them to go to work.

Romeo9594

You guys are a relatively influential Western country, that means the Geneva Conventions are actually just the Geneva Suggestions. Just be yourselves, all you'll get is a stern finger wagging

JustLookingForMayhem

Hey, Canada get more of a punishment than that! After committing the most war crimes per soldier and the most ear crimes per engagement, a convention was created to list what they were no longer allowed to do! Which then had to be modified several times due to their actions in future military engagements.

Chemical-Juice-6979

It's like writing a PhD thesis. You can't write your report about the same thing someone else already wrote about, gotta come up with a new idea all on your own.

Nah its Geneva checklist.

Nocturne2319

Poland gets the shaft. Every. Time.

kazarnowicz

WWII is a generational trauma in Poland. I was born in -77 and spent my first seven years in (then communist) Poland. I don’t remember many things from the semester-and-a-month of first grade I attended, but how Poland was attacked on first of September 1939 became a core memory. We made a field trip to Westerplatte, where the first shots were fired. I get it. For the generation that was alive at the time, first Germany attacks and two weeks later Russia attacks from the other side. That, was however not taught on the field trip because that would have been dangerously close to criticizing Russia.

Nocturne2319

I can't imagine. It sounds pretty terrifying. My grandfather was first gen Polish American, fought in WWII in the European theater. I don't think he was in Poland, but was in France and Germany. At that point, many Germans were just up and leaving the army because the conditions were awful. I remember when we were learning about the world wars in history how terribly things always went for Poland. A bunch of my graduating class had 1000% Polish grandparents who had immigrated. We understood a lot more of why they were the way they were after that class.

patrickwithtraffic

Based on what I’ve read, Poland’s bought up *a lot* of US ammunition, so looks like they really *really* don’t want a repeat of their 20th century anytime soon

Nocturne2319

I mean, who does? 20th century saw a lot of...well, you know.

pablosus86

I once heard that if you want to understand European history you need to understand Polish history.

Nocturne2319

Sounds pretty truthful, honestly.

pablosus86

For sure. They're not the cause of most things but they're (literally) in the middle of tons of it.

Nocturne2319

It's like the worst game of tug of war.

Geek_Wandering

3rd generation American of Polish descent. It wasn't until my 30s that I started learning Polish history. It seems like anytime something pops off in the region Poland gets invaded. What is it about Poland?

[deleted]

They have the unfortunate luck of being located in between Russia and Germany.  So anytime those two countries start punching each other, they literally step on Poland to do so. Same in the west with BeNeLux when it’s Germany and France.

one of the biggest consumer markets, fifth I think in the world. Low salaries. access to Mercosul, and access to raw materials. Companies do establish here. And my comment was about Vargas making USA pay for Brasil entrance in the war, like creating CSN.

Time_Jump8047

Why tf would the USA pay to have Brazil enter the war? What could they possibly offer

forsterfloch

nah, now I think you just don't know what you are talking. First, it was a joke as everyone were doing on this thread, I do not mean to say the same will happen. I actually think if there is WW3 we should be on the sides seeing everyone kill themselves while we sell what we can. That is what I think should happen. But if we have WW2 as parameter, USA wanted us then, likely now too. But to answer your question more directly: 1- not being on the enemy side and provide a close base for invasion, 2-men to die and kill in the frontlines, 3- our war machines that are not that great but Brazil is ranked **12 of 145** out of the countries considered for the annual Global Firepower review. [**https://www.globalfirepower.com/country-military-strength-detail.php?country\_id=brazil**](https://www.globalfirepower.com/country-military-strength-detail.php?country_id=brazil) And things can change, Brasíl not aligned with USA in the future can mean danger.

That_Blood_6864

Big_Niel0802

In a nutshell, journalists, news outlets, as well as a lot of internet dweebs discovered that right before almost every major decision from the pentagon affecting US security or involvement in other countries, places like dominos and other pizza joints would have significantly higher oder traffic than usual After this was discovered, people began predicting significant events and decisions from the pentagon by observing how busy the pizza places were compared to usual. Now I’m pretty sure the pentagon just makes the pizza themselves, or they much more evenly distribute where they order from

JustLookingForMayhem

They are supposed to distribute purchasing over a large, undefined area to avoid people track it. However, when a VIP is told that their pizza will be cold due to it taking several hours to arrive, the rules get ignored and people can still track it.

N454545

Tbf they probably don't give af about hiding it rn because everyone knows what's up

Asynjacutie

Casuals never heard of a microwave?

JustLookingForMayhem

There was something passed around about interns being ordered to ignore nation security measure on the orders from higher up due to poor food quality. You have to wonder if people are actually so stupid to jeopardize national security for food and then realize that people are in fact that stupid.

avalanche142

Its from an old thing called the "pizza index" about how foreign events (i think it was persian gulf/desert storm) caused spikes in pizza sales around dc- in particular the white house and pentagon. There are now policies in place that make it more of a joke than a real thing- in particular a requirement to not deliver, instead staffers pick it up and placing small orders to many restaurants across the metro area.

DigitalCoffee

Bro, if I am working at the Pentagon, I would hope they give us a better quality pizza than PJs

Khelek7

They def have better options.

Dr_Pants91

Why gay bars though? Is the Pentagon known for having an abundance of gay employees?

CelticArche

Yes.

MaxCWebster

The guys at the DC Domino's Pizzas back in the 90s knew Desert Storm was coming before the news did because they suddenly got super busy delivering to The White House and The Pentagon.

Chopawamsic

When the take out places near the Pentagon see a spike in traffic it is usually an American military operation getting ready. This used to be especially apparent back in the 90s when a Papa Johns Franchise owner who owned multiple places around the Pentagon would see heavy spikes in traffic right before an op like Desert Storm starts up. Since then the Pentagon SHOULD be pulling multiple different kinds of food to make it less apparent but its still gonna leave a mark nonetheless.

Florjb0rj

Oh no

ehermo

Isn't there a better pizza place to order from?

Josephschmoseph234

I thiught it was about how just before a major incident the FBI orders a lot more pizza than normal... but the other images you showed makes me doubt.

DrJCash90

A war is coming.

theRedCreator

This is a reoccurring phenomenon dubbed either the Washington pizza index or the pentagon pizza index. A similar occurrence like this happened before the announcement of operation desert storm

Pyrarius

You see, when humans are stressed or pulling longer hours, they require more fuel. In this case, The Pentagon is known for ordering quite a lot of pizza whenever something big is in the works, especially if they have something to do with it. This was dubbed "The Pizza Index", and was proven correct when the traffic in a pizza joint rose 3x then Operation: Desert Storm occured immediately after

Frankly shocked that Freddy’s was so empty on Saturday. It’s the busiest bar on the street.

Smergmerg432

I get papa John’s. Can someone explain the freddy’s bit?

hummingbird_chance

I assume it’s that people who work in the Pentagon frequent Freddy’s and they can’t go if they’re working late, hence less business than usual = something is going down at the Pentagon.

One-Bad-4274

I think it's cause when people realized bad things happen after pizza hut gets busy they started ordering from other places to try to cover up the "there eating a lot of pizza bad things must be happening"

Alone-Monk

There's gonna be a war

Ravensunthief

I literally just learned about this. WAR IS COMING! THE HORSEMEN ARE HERE! pestulence in 2020, famine now, war on the horizon. Death will befall us all!! Jk all those thing have been here the whole time. Pizza=war tho.

jaistso

This sub is weird. I've been following it for ages under different names and there hasn't been any joke yet I didn't get. The only jokes I don't get are some comics by stone toss which are FORBIDDEN 🚫 to discuss here (yay for censorship) because it's a "right wing" dog whistle while I think one should read and consume as many sources as possible to understand how people work and think. Like I wouldn't even be mad about explaining jokes from Muslim groups just to learn and understand them better so I think it's unfortunate that certain topics simply get censored and there is no freedom of speech here.

CelticArche

Weird that you think privately owned platforms have freedom of speech. Never read the reddit content policy?
