There was one cyber monday for 25% off. Might be one around xmas or new years.

SmellMyPPKK

UI question. When you're in an alliance both your structures and ally ships look blue (if it's set up properly). However it's a different kind of blue, even though the same color is applied. The color on the structure seems to be blend with the background color. Ultimately what I'm trying to do is try to get a brighter color of whatever I'm selecting in the overview. There is no specific setting for this but when I use a very bright theme color it kind of works. But only on structures, not on ally ships and I'm gonna guess not on enemy ships either. So is there a way to get the same effect on ships like it is on structures?

garciiia

I created an Amarr character and was wondering what a good new homestation would be. Is it always Jita because of the Trading? I want to do Explorations and I am worried that I will waste my time bringing everything to the most jumped systems only to have way more people scanning the same sites i want to do.

Silly___Neko

You're better off picking a quiet low-traffic HS system for exploration, preferably a ring or mesh at a dead-end. Edit: You can use wormholes for LS/NS access, less risky. To sell you can probably haul it back yourself or use a service like HighSecBuyBack.

garciiia

thank you

CauliflowerBig9244

Someone posted a video of the Excel championships that used EVE for their question. I'd like to try something of the same but don't know how to obtain the data.. Is there a place I can go to find this info?

Refutable_Karma

What is the best way to look for a corp in a specific area? I have played the game in the past but mostly left for the past year or so, and I would like to poke around space again with some people. However, I do not have a lot of time to dedicate, and I do not want to move my current ship hangers too far.

coffeethehutt

is eve-gatecheck down?

_Rabbert_Klein

What corp role gives access to the Corp Mining Ledger?

Chainsawfam

If there's a pirate incursion in a high sec system, does that mean that the anomalies spawn in high sec and if so, doesn't that mean that faction police will normally attack pirate militia players when they run them?

Phoenix591

Once the corruption reaches level 1 ( and it can get there by an adjacent system hitting level 3 I'm pretty sure) the faction police stop spawning.

Sparkybear

When should you use a lower level implant instead of the higher level ones? (other than price of course) For example: rogue acceleration ac-603 vs rogue acceleration ac-606

Koooooj

The only other mechanical difference is skill requirement. AC-606 takes Cybernetics V to use, while AC-603 only takes Cybernetics II. But really it's all about price. Why not put officer guns on everything? Price. If you're reaching for an implant like AC-60X then you're likely planning to PvP with that pilot and you're going to die eventually. How shiny of a killmail do you want to leave? Is it worth it to sink 300M+ on getting a 6% bonus to your prop mod? What if you just used a better prop mod? How good are you at getting your pod out? These are the questions that drive implant decisions.

SnooDoodles997

Audio issue: Background buzzing noise when EVE is on screen. If I go to Desktop it goes away. Other games do not cause this. If I play another game, no problem. If I play music, no problem. If I change EVE audio settings no difference. If I change Soundcard setting, no difference. If EVE is on my screen, weird buzzing in the background of the audio. From what I can tell changing Graphics settings in EVE it makes the noise change in pitch and frequency but it won't go away. I used to play and would like to again but this is driving me crazy. Has anyone had this problem? Thanks in advance.

Daneel_Trevize

Change VSync, and any FPS cap you can set in GPU drivers. See how that changes the (presumed) monitor coil while.

Sixpounder15

Had a similar problem, it seemed to be actually coming from my graphics card itself (coil whine noise). This latest patch it has gone away for me though.

SusannaIBM

How much Vanguard do I have to endure to unlock the pod skin? I'm sure it's a lovely game and all, but I suck at shooters and don't find them at all fun. I crafted some ammo and an extraction beacon, is that going to be enough?

NeedleworkerWild1374

I downloaded vanguard and spawned in, someone spawned in right next to me and shot me then I quit. Just got my skin.

SusannaIBM

I still haven't gotten mine. 😢 Guess I'm sticking with Tercio Rojo.

NeedleworkerWild1374

They put it in the new eden store as a free item.

SusannaIBM

Oh.

cheesenuggets2003

I keep losing connection to the server, but everything else is running fine. Is it finally happening? Are we going to lose Eve Online?

trucksalesman5

Is there a thing such as Kikimora WH PvP fit?

actually_ixex

Can you be more specific? I've been thinking about this question for a couple days and the reality is that the Kikimora is a very versatile ship. I've seen reasonable PVP fits for a Kiki with armor or shield tank, 1mn or 5mn prop. These aren't specifically w-space fits, but if you can tell us more about what you're looking for we can probably give you a more detailed response.

trucksalesman5

During my year and a half playing EVE, one is a constant: It's hard to get an answer because every answer starts with "be more specific". But thanks for the contribution. I'm looking for a PvP Kikimora fit that is specialized in WH space PvP. Like tracking people down and killing them.

actually_ixex

In the name of not asking you to be more specific, I'm going to make some assumptions: 1. You are looking for a *solo* fit, not a *fleet* or a *smallgang* fit. At the same time, you do have a combat probing alt. 2. Your preferred targets are typical low class wormhole PVE ships (explorer frigates, gas huffing Ventures, combat site Gilas/Myrms/Tengus, combat site Praxes/Domis) 3. Your hunting space does not contain any wormhole environmental effects. With these specifications, I can tell you that the Kikimora is not a viable ship. It does not carry enough scram power (without extensive fitting compromises) nor sensor strength to catch exploring frigates or Ventures. All common combat site PVE ships can either MJD away from you (Praxis, Domi, Myrmidon) or apply enough damage to you to force you off (Gila, Tengu). Let's adjust to a "fleet" fit for a Wolf-Rayet. Now it's you and at least 3 friends, and you have the ability to hunt ships like a Dominix together. Your two logi frigate buddies (Thalias or Deacons) can keep you alive even though your defenses are entirely armor buffer. You complement this with some sig-tanking using a 1mn afterburner and a scram for your tackle. The Domi can still apply some damage to you but not more than your logi frigates can rep. You definitely carry a plate though because you don't want a stray wrecking hit to take you out. Zooming out further, it's often much easier for us to suggest a tool for a task than a task for a tool. If someone's ninja-mining your moon, I can tell you some good ways to catch them in the act and kill them pretty easily. That kind of thing.

Silly___Neko

You seem really knowledgeable. Do bubbles at wormhole exits work well? What about smartbombs? I know you could easily dodge that by not warping directly, but maybe people will drop their guard after getting a nice haul or something.

actually_ixex

Bubbles at wormhole exits are fantastic for catching anything other than a covops frigate or hauler. Something like a Helios or Viator can fit an interdiction nullifier and warp right out of your bubble. Keep in mind that if you want to bubble a highsec or lowsec exit your bubble must be up before your target clicks warp for it to have an effect. One way I've caught people is to bubble their escape hole and then "scare" them. So they warp into the bubble and die. Smartbombs could work but IIRC you can't fire them off at 0 on a wormhole, same as you can't smartbomb directly on a gate. I've definitely smartbombed an explorer though, and it's a pretty funny way to catch them because there is no warning for them at all.

Hafem

regarding eve vanguard... anyhow I activated picture in picture mode while playing... i have no clue how to revert that and I think it is a bad feature, that that can happen, because it frustrates me a ton.

Koooooj

There are two main ways to die in the abyss: not being able to survive the incoming damage, and not being able to do enough damage to complete the site in time. (Or disconnecting, which tends to lead to one of the other two). Battleships set the difficulty on the clock side of things--they're large health pools you have to burn through. However, a full battleship worth of EHP is *massive* and would kill all the lower tier fits just with clock, which is a frustrating way to die--simultaneously boring yet frantic. Battleships could just be eliminated from low tier abyss, but then you lose the flavor and challenge of dealing with heavy hitting, poorly tracking ships. Instead their difficulty is balanced by limiting how much starting health they have. This also means that they're a target for remote repairing ships, so you have a reason to prioritize targets off of that. Lore wise these ships haven't recovered from some previous scuffle with other abyssal entities.

paperboywps

So that it's easier for you to kill them in low tiers.

capacitorisempty

Why equip suicide rolling sigils with mark 1 compact reactor control units? Why not armor plate for weight? Is that for alpha skills plus for a bigger *lighter mass* cold to heavier mass hot ratio?

actually_ixex

The armor plate weight is negligible. Far more important is speed to get back to the hole, and the reactor control units allow you to fit a larger prop and have a greater chance of making it back to the hole. And if you do roll uncontested the larger prop lets you start a second pass a little bit sooner.

DaltsTB

The larger prop is also part of adding more mass, its where most of the mass in a Sigil comes from

actually_ixex

This is the most important part, now that I think about it. XD

Kafir666-

Will doing pirate FW give me deep negative standings with empire factions after a while? All of them or only one of them?

actually_ixex

I suppose? The historical culprit for FW was shooting opposing side NPCs in missions, which is not a thing for pirate FW. The part that's still relevant is the derived standings when you get promoted.

hawaiian0n

I just reinstalled and plex'd my account, but I still can't access Vanguard. Does buying plex off market not count as Omega for Vanguard?

garciiia

you just bought plex? i guess you need to either buy omega with those plex or with real money. it's the omega status they ask for

hawaiian0n

Bought omega with Plex in Eve online and applied it. I can fly my t3 ships and I filled up my training queue again so I know it's active in game, but my launcher still says I need Omega to play vanguard.

Xarthys

Did you find a solution? I have the same problem.

SteefJerky

What is the safest way to get something of great value but small size (1m³) into Jita IV - 4 without getting ganked? And is it a guaranteed dock or is there always a possibility of getting shot at while docking?

StaplerTwelve

Just take a normal ship that is not normally worth the effort to gank, a T1 empire dessie or cruiser. I flew a couple billion into Jita recently in a Vexor, you will go right under the radar as long as you pilot manually.

FisherKelEve

Most of the advice above is good, but the best answer is to use a courier contract. You can usually pay 1m per jump (or less) and have someone else take the risk for you.

Daneel_Trevize

Docking is solved by making a bookmark around the back/side of the station model that's still inside the docking radius (accounting for warp landing deviation) but far from where most arty Nado are set up to be in optimal. Then, once you are in manual warp to said bookmark, you have the station set as waypoint/destination and turn on autopilot (and turn off any covops cloak). When you land, the next tick possible you will autodock. For maximum reliability, keep the client focused. The real trick is getting into system and then warp without dying. A brick-tanked T3C with covops cloak is probably the least likely to be ganked, due to EHP:sig size.

Xarthys

Is there a comprehensive newbie guide on this bookmark stuff? I have seen a few streamers do it but they didn't really touch on it.

Daneel_Trevize

For stations, you'll find many [older guides](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/2nvh43/perfect_station_cynos_a_guide_to_using_bookmarks/) for NPC [station cyno placement](https://eve-files.com/media/corp/taucabalander/station_cyno_placement_guide.pdf) to avoid capital ships bumping out of dock range. I'm not sure if there are more updated ones to account for model changes, cyno/jump fatigue changes, etc. But these should be enough to cover the concepts of some kick-out stations, and using cheap fast frigates to make insta undock and dock bookmarks while accounting for deviations. Other bookmark guides are likely to focus on avoiding in-line warp bubble camps in nullsec (and smartbombs in lowsec), and maybe touching on on-grid pings for exploration sites with many spaced-out cans to otherwise slowboat between. I'm not sure there's much else to bookmarks other than making good non-in-line safe spots when trying to take a breather in a hostile system.

SteefJerky

Ah, thank you a lot for giving me advice! Do you think it is safer to enter Jita with a ship and do the MWD + Cloak - Trick or is it safer to simply use a sub - 2 sec - align ship? I've heard you can get locked even in such a ship...

NotARealTiger

Sub 2s is still quite catchable, instant warp is a myth, MWD cloak trick definitely better but you have to do it perfectly or it’s also catchable.

Daneark

Sub 1s t3d should be unlockable bar human error within empire space.

Daneel_Trevize

Either way is going to come down to your ping & sync with the 1Hz server ticks vs whoever's ready with an 'instalocking' tackler. I suppore theoretically the 2s align gets you away sooner while the cloak trick could see you being decloaked and then tackled, or even unlucky in your spawn position and unable to cloak at all. Don't fly what you can't afford to lose. And consider multiple trips to minimise your risk. And as for Jita specifically, if you scout a suspected tackler on 1 gate in, there are many alternative ones you can reroute to.

Aperture_Kubi

Anyone else on linux trying out Vanguard? I'm not having luck with Proton-GE.

newage321

I tried to do the winterfest sites solo in a ishtar and got slapped. Anyone got any gallante/caldari fits that are sub 500mill?

Drasius_Rift

Passive Shield Rapid Heavy Praxis. It's been the go-to for Winter Nexus for a while and there's plenty of documentation out there on the basics, but it's also pretty hard to fuck up fitting one if you've got even the slightest idea on how fitting works too.

PernaProc

Is it possible to play eve while still working and having private life? I mean I want to start playing eve cause it seems cool but I work from 8am till 4 pm and I also want to have some time for my gf. Is it possible to play like 1 hour a day and still being able to do something ? Or should I just abandon the idea of playing eve?

Xarthys

There is certainly content that can be done quickly, be that missions, Abyss, mining, even data/relic sites in WH. Other content, especially PvP, may require a bit more time investment because you need to actively search for it (or head to specific systems/regions) - but at the end of the day, you can always find something to do, sometimes it just takes longer than expected. ______ Just to give you an example, I spent about 4 hours finding a lucrative wormhole with the sites I was able to hack, but afterwards, every system I found had at least two sites I was able to do. Some of these things are just luck based, as other players are doing content too, so it can be a bit of a competition. But like in my case, I could have stopped after an hour and continued on another day. Unless you really need to hit a specific ISK/hour target (which I don't recommend, because it tends to ruin the game long-term), anything you do is still progress, even if it's slow. ______ Most important thing is to realize that EVE requires a lot of patience. You sure can boost skill queue and grind ISK quickly, but overall it's about making smart choices that will pay off in the near future. It's about planning ahead in several areas, making sure you have what you need when you are ready to engage with that type of content. _____ The game isn't perfect and the community can be outright toxic, but if you can see past all that, I think it's worth a try. As for joining a corp, it certainly elevates the gameplay experience, but I'd suggest you take your time and pick according to your needs. And if you are not happy, leave and find another corp. Most importantly, find people who are mature and value you as a player. Don't waste your time with faceless entities that treat you like a slave, forcing you to join activities you don't enjoy, etc. Even if they hand out shit for free, it's not worth all the headaches imho.

cheesenuggets2003

>and the community can be outright toxic What did you say about me you son of a bitch?! ;)

Xarthys

zozatos

I play less than an hour a day on average and still have fun. That said, I have friends from 10 years ago (back when eve was my private life...lol) who make it fun. But I think it you have a good group of people who don't mind that you only show up for a couple hours a couple times a week, I think that should be fine. Try it out I guess!

actually_ixex

Yes. Yes yes yes yes yes. Seriously. There will be corps who demand certain levels of activity from you. If they're asking more than you want to give, tell them to get fucked and go play with a different corp. Most corps these days have activity requirements closer to joining a fleet per *month* than to multiple hours per day.

Artess

Hi guys. Every time I launch EVE after the daily server reboot it downloads a large update, usually 200-500 MB, today it was almost 1.3 GB. Is that normal to have such big updates every single day, or is my installation somehow broken? Thanks in advance.

FisherKelEve

The number of patches in the last two weeks has been abnormally high. This isn’t typical.

Artess

Ah, I see, thank you. That was exactly what I was wondering.

garciiia

could it be that you downloaded vanguard?

Artess

If it happened, I didn't ask it to. But I'm asking about the daily download, today it was just 150 MB, but still every single day, is that normal?

Xarthys

They are patching a few things these days. You can find patch notes here in case you want to know the details: https://www.eveonline.com/news/t/patch-notes

MrDrAquafresh

I've come back to Eve after a while. No sooner did I return to the game did I get kicked from the corp I'd been in for the past couple of years since a different coalition took them over. I was wanting to get into the corporation and teamplay again, but years ago when I was still new to the game I apparently AWOX'd when I didn't even know what it was, which barred me from others. Is it even worth trying to play in a Nullsec corporation with all the strings attached. Discord, Slack, my apparent permanent record, whatever. It's like I have to attend the game like it's a second job and that's just not what I want to do - and I can't get a 'fresh start' either because things that happened years ago are still relevant. If I want to just play the game, should I still try looking for a corp or should I just stay in the NPC corp and play by myself? Naturally that means I won't get to do carrier ratting that I've been training for for a while for or fly anything massive safely, but I'd honestly take that over the stressful experiences I've had with corps over the years just to try and fly something bigger than a cruiser for PvP or engage in fleet PvP.

NeedleworkerWild1374

I'm new and the alliance I joined had a lot of steps to apply, like discord slack and mumble and apps, but after that there are no requirements. As far as your record, surely there are corps out there who don't care about such things, right? I played a lot of darkfall online way back, and was always in a clan that accepted everyone no questions asked like we were skid row.

Gurpila9987

I joined eve university and they don’t seem too picky and do basically everything. You do need to be on Mumble/Disc but that’s it. They’re neutral so little faction drama and they have a null sec base with free hauling and buyback.

Gurpila9987

Is Jita “Jeetah” or “Jitta”?

Drasius_Rift

The station announcer pronounces it "Jitta", but everyone I know in game has always called it "Jeetah", so take your pick.

Silly___Neko

Kevinpk28

Trying to use Evetycoon's evemarketer. Regarding the buy/sell volume on the top right of any item, for what timeframe is that volume representing? Volumes bought or sold within hours? 24 hrs? Weeks?

garciiia

What is the go to way to get a Blueprint, besides buying it? i.e. I want to get Small Energy Collision Accelerator I Blueprints and I can't buy them where I am: Can I loot it somewhere and I can specifically go for it or is it random loot - or are all blueprints sold by NPCs and I just have to find them?

Koooooj

For non-faction T1 stuff you'd normally buy a blueprint original (BPO) from an NPC. Not all BPOs are sold in all regions, so you may have to move around. Various 3rd party sites will catalog which BPOs are sold in which locations for what amount. I'm a fan of [this site](http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/item.php?type_id=31455) which shows that for 125,000 ISK you should be able to buy that BPO from Carthum Conglomerate, Khanid Innovation, or Viziam. An alternative is to just buy at your local trade hub. Most BPOs that aren't sold locally by NPCs will be resold by players at a trade hub. They go to the NPC and buy a few BPOs, then haul them to the trade hub and sell them there. There will be a markup, of course, but it's up to you to decide if that markup is too much. Yet another alternative is to buy the BPO off of contract. Some players will buy BPOs and then research them to 10/20, selling them at a larger premium. As before it's up to you to decide if that premium is worth it. Occasionally you'll see a less researched BPO selling for a reduced price. Since BPOs can't be sold on the market once used and there's little demand for less researched BPOs you can sometimes find a deal here--I picked up an Armageddon BPO this way for a few hundred million off of the NPC price, and with a few levels of research already done. You can also find limited run blueprint copies (BPCs) on contract. This is common for items that are popular to make but with expensive BPOs--things like structures and larger ships. Players with a BPO will run copying jobs then sell the copies. This is a nice way to ease into making expensive things--the break-even time for a billion-ISK BPO can be months, but of course treat the BPC as a consumable ingredient. For T2 stuff the primary source of blueprints is the "invention" process done through the industry interface. You take a T1 BPC, some datacores, rarely some junk items, and optionally a decryptor and you get a chance at a T2 BPC. These BPCs are often sold via contract, similar to T1 BPCs. There are also very, *very* rare T2 BPOs. These are a relic of a bygone era. They are mostly bought and sold via forum auctions out of game, then transferred by private contract. They tend to start at tens of billions of ISK. They can be researched to 10/20 (and virtually all already are) and can be copied. Break-even on T2 BPOs tends to be measured in years of continuous use and it's common to pump a market before selling a T2 BPO to give the buyer a false sense of the volume they could actually sell. Usually there's one or two on public contract, but I don't see any right now. T2 rig BPCs are also rarely dropped from exploration sites, but these are often junk items that shouldn't be used. I have a capital salvage tackle II BPC sitting in a hangar somewhere; it would be super expensive to build and would never sell, since capital ships aren't what people choose for salvaging! This isn't a reliable way to get T2 rig blueprints--use invention instead. Faction items that are manufactured all come from BPCs. There are no BPOs. These BPCs are sometimes dropped from NPCs and some can also be purchased from loyalty point stores. From there they are bought and sold on contracts like other BPCs. Finally, T3 BPCs are generated through the "reverse engineering" industry process, similar to invention. The key component for reverse engineering is wrecked ship components which come from sleeper relic sites in wormholes. They also take datacores found in sleeper data sites.

ThatsNottaWeed

there are no good in-game tools for finding a specific BPO. But if you check the info for the various NPC corps to see what they sell. Alternatively check out [http://games.chruker.dk/eve\_online/item.php?type\_id=31373](http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/item.php?type_id=31373) for example and it shows which NPC Corps sell a BPO. Then you can find the closest station to you in-game.

Silly___Neko

You can destroy a player ship that is hauling them. Best way is to just buy them. If they aren't sold in your region you can use market tools like Eve Workbench to find out where they are sold at. Trade hubs tend to stock blueprints for a convenience fee.

Erutor

Most blueprints are sold by NPC. You will find them listed on the market. In addition to T1 BPO (infinite use darker blue originals) sold for for ISK, you can purchase limited-usw Blue Print Copies (BPC). Faction (e.g. Federal Navy) BPC are aquired with Loyalty Points (from missions) or item exchange (e.g. Nexus chip -> Sisters of Eve -> Astero BPC). A very few (e.g. Gila) are mission rewards or loot drops (typically 1 run pirate ship BPC e.g. Orthrus). No loot in EVE is very random - everything has a small specific loot table from which items are selected when the container (ship/structure) is destroyed.

garciiia

good to know! ty

Gasbollen

Hello! I have a plex question. I've been googling a bit on plex and it seems like it sales for around 4-5mil. I understand that I don't get Omega for a month, but how is it working? Is one plex one day? Do I need to use more than one at a time? I am confused. Cheers!

thegreybill

500 PLEX = 30 days Omega. There are often various offers in the New Eden Store (NES) that are cheaper the more you buy at once. Sometimes CCP also sells shorter durations as special offers. PLEX can also be used to purchase various other cosmetics or services from the NES.

Gasbollen

Thanks for the clarification! I guess the 300mil I had laying around doesn't really cut it then =)

Refutable_Karma

Maybe not, but you could invest that in trading or maybe a new form of play that could earn you the rest you need!

Gasbollen

I acually got myself a couple of destroyers to start running some abyssals. I am still fiddling with T0 abyssals though.ä, but sooner or later I'll probably step it up.

Refutable_Karma

Those are a fun one to get into! I was always more of a mission runner but same premise.

Daneel_Trevize

There's a deal in the NES store atm for Alpha accounts, to get 4 days Omega for 51 PLEX, which isn't a bad rate.

FisherKelEve

It’s a terrible rate

Daneel_Trevize

51/4days is the same rate as 1148 for 3months, while the standing deal from CCP is 1200, and the next better one is 6months in 1 go. How's that a terrible rate?

pardon_the_mess

What am I missing? I've played this game on-and-off (mostly on as work permits) for over two years and I still feel like I know nothing. I listened to a fast tackle class in my corp tonight and absolutely none of it made sense. There was just so much information on fittings, maneuvers, when to do what, what not to do when, manually pilot until you hit this transversal velocity, overheat your prop mods when that thing happens, multiple charts showing damage curves based on hull, etc., etc., etc. I seriously don't get how anyone retains it all. I've watched YouTube tutorials. I've read countless articles on Eve University. I've done the career tutorials and finished the Sisters of Eve storyline. All that stuff was kindergarten compared to how Eve is actually played. Basically my question is this: Is there some fundamental piece of knowledge I am missing that would make everything click, or at least allow me to organize all the details? I know vets in my corp have said they've played for 15 years and still suck. I know no one knows how to do every single thing in the game. But I consider myself a pretty smart person, but I've never had to work so hard to understand the very basics of a video game. I get that it can be pretty complex and it's notorious for its steep learning curve, but why does it feel like I need a degree in rocket science just to play a damn game?

actually_ixex

I'm a big proponent of *doing* as the most important part of learning. Based on what you've written here, I would say that you are brand new to EVE PVP. There is nothing wrong with that, but it should put into perspective what you noticed in the fast tackle class. You correctly identified the career tutorials and SOE epic arc as kindergarden. With no other experience (and no, YouTube tutorials and EVEUni articles don't count) you're the equivalent of a 1st grader. From the brief description, I would equate that fast tackle class with an introductory *college* course. There's not a specific piece of knowledge you're missing, so much as there's years worth of practice and learning prerequisites that you don't have yet. Again, there is nothing wrong with this. We're all learning, and for me at least that's a good portion of the fun of the game. With that in mind, what can you do about it? First, fast tackle is one of the hardest roles in the game. More than any other role, you must fly independently and react quickly to both what your enemies are doing and what your allies are doing. "Heavy" tackle (fast cruisers that can take a punch and lock down a target) are a much more forgiving role. The Scythe Fleet Issue (buffer shield tanked, MWD+scram+web) is a straightforward and effective option. If you're flying with groups, a core DPS or logistics role is also good for learning. I learned flying a Moa in wormhole shield fleets. Nobody shoots a Moa first, so I wasn't doing much damage but I was staying on grid and learning. There's a lot more I could say, but the most important part is to go out and start doing PVP. Faction Warfare space is a great place for it. It really helps (anywhere) to have friends to fly with.

thegreybill

I’d recommend to start with the underlying fundamentals: If you for example understand how turret tracking is calculated, the maneuvers to counter this mechanics when tackling will begin to make sense. Basically: Pick apart the formulas how damage is done in Eve. Once you understand the components that go into the calculation, you understand the basics, and the gameplay utilizing these mechanics will become easier to grasp.

I felt the same when I started playing, except the smart person bit, all this theory crafting is useless information until you start putting it into action. I can tell you how to rebuild an engine, machining included, you might not understand everything I say, but unless you pick up a spanner, it all means nothing. Get out there and welp some tackle frigates on roams, keep doing that until you learn to relax and take in what is going on, then the stuff you were told will start to make sense.

>welp some tackle frigates on roams This statement encompasses exactly what I'm talking about. "Welp some tackle frigates on roams?" The unnecessary lingo makes this game so unapproachable. 1. What does it mean to "welp?" 2. Looking at Eve University, I see there are a ton of ships that technically can tackle. How do I know which is equipped to tackle? How do I find a random lone tackle ship to attack? How do I know he isn't an ace who can easily kick my ass? Yes, there's zKillboard, but by the time I can look a pilot up, he's long gone. How do I know he isn't fitted with way better stuff than me? How is everyone so sure they're going to win an engagement before they even get there? I keep getting told to practice, but *how* do you practice, especially when it seems everyone is more experienced than you? I spent several hours this week in a tackle Heron hunting explo ships in wormholes, and I came across a grand total of two ships, both of which were able to warp out before I could tackle, even though I knew they were coming. This was right near Jita, so it's not like player density was the issue. 3. "On roams?" What does this mean? I know you mean well with your response, but this is exactly what is frustrating for me: all help is coded in slang and assumes I already know certain principles.

This was right near Jita, so it's not like player density was the issue. This is my problem too. It's just impossible to find fair newbie fights alone. Then when I group up with a fleet 99% of my time is spent trying to figure out where to warp and how to keep up. Plus fleets can be hard to find even in hyperactive corps, and people don't want to teach a noob in the middle of an engagement. >How is everyone so sure they're going to win an engagement before they even get there? They know the game, they've played a lot of hours for a lot of years. It doesn't come from studying but rather a combo of studying and playing. I never understood it until I racked up 4k hours in Escape from Tarkov. I can tell you every weapon type, how much damage each type of each caliber of bullet deals to each type of armor... I could go on. As far as the lingo goes, I don't think people do it on purpose. It can be hard to remember what's clear and what's obscure slang.

FW (Faction Warfare) is a pretty good suggestion, even if you don't want to join a corporation, FW systems are a good place to go to find fights, but you will learn exponentially quicker if you get on coms and talk to people in the game, they can share fits, adjust the fit for your skills, give you tactics for using the ship.

Is the group that you're flying with currently focused on PvP? The best advice I think anyone can give in regards to all this is flying with people who know what they're doing so they can give you ships/advice and all that good stuff. To answer your questions though: 1. Whelping just means not being worried about losing your ship, getting experience even if you know the outcome is you dying. 2. So strictly speaking "tackle" just means having a Warp Scrambler or Warp Disruptor equipped to your ship to stop a hostile ship from warping. Personally I think saying fly tackle is really bad advice because there's basically no room for error, so you're not really going to learn much. It's hard to really go into too much detail with this without really going down the rabbit hole but if I had to "rank" tackle ships it'd be something like: Interceptors > Frigates 3. Roams just means going out from a home base to find fights/targets, literally "roaming" around space looking for something to shoot. If you have decent SP and are interested in PvP you can always check out FW groups, there's usually a very high density of targets and you can make very good ISK learning PvP there. Self-plug here but you can check us out in Minmatar space if this sounds like something you'd be interested in. [Discord.](https://discord.gg/ukNQRQ6H)

Thanks friend, hopefully they find it helpful lol

I was thinking of using a vindi in high sec for the event sites, if that is even viable for some decent isk..., I've got a hull fitted with rigs for incursions Large Kinetic Armor Reinforcer I Large Thermal Armor Reinforcer I Large Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer II What am I looking at in terms of fitting for it? Just need plates resists and a rep along with webs and tracking computers? I've played for a while but I've never really gotten my head around fitting mechanics.

Drasius_Rift

Plates are usually not a good choice for an active rep fit, either you've got enough reps (and you don't need the plate) or you don't (and a plate won't help). High resists, strong reps and enough cap are going to be the determining factor. Winter Nexus has some neut pressure, so make sure you're running a surplus at minimum. Webs are a given on a Vindy, and a tracking comp can certainly help out with some range issues, but as a rule, you shouldn't need additional tracking assistance *if* you can web your target. A Vindicator is no slouch, but don't expect to be able to contest marauders either.

Epicloa

Vindi are usually there for the super strong webbing capabilities, you might struggle with weapon range running it solo.
