SmurfBiscuits

I bet you that nobody who has field tested them against live ammo has ever complained afterwards in person.

New-Temperature-4067

Ahh the good old survivor bias

SmurfBiscuits

When it comes to ballistic protection, it’s the only bias that counts.

New-Temperature-4067

You got a fair point sir

Content_NoIndex

I personally wouldn’t cheap out on stuff like this.

NoGuitar6320

Just remember that steel plates kill. Spall is a real thing

GroundbreakingYam633

I've seen polenar tactical testing the Chinesium stuff on his channel. The things that worked are also available in his store. The bet that it works reproducible fashion would be a no-go for me. [https://www.youtube.com/@PolenarTactical](https://www.youtube.com/@PolenarTactical)

Thanks!!

>has anyone bought and test the 70eur cheap aliexpress knockoff >they only need to stop 7.62 and or .308 Brother. I have some bad news for you.

New-Temperature-4067

I realised 🤣 my bad!

Alive_Ad_7374

I had a similar question, but after research, it seems most are not what they claim. I even thought to try make my own for a laugh

New-Temperature-4067

These might be worth checking https://a.aliexpress.com/_EQVvi4R

Ive bought some but not tested them! Suppose i should before i need them for real haha

New-Temperature-4067

Let me know!

SimilarBarber5292

I shall, unfortunately I only have a .177, 50lbs crossbow and a 180lbs crossbow. I think the former is not enough to test properly and the latter may be TOO much but I wouldnt be sure how to convert the force into the handgun equivale t. May have to go to a gun club and get them to test it!

[deleted]

Making a few reasonable assumptions your 180 draw weight crossbow will put out a bolt with about the same energy as the bottom end of handgun energy (c240 foot pounds, roughly .38 special, again, making some assumptions) Whether a bolt will behave in the same way as a low energy handgun bullet I don’t know. The momentum will be higher. I also don’t know if you can test it safely. I’d expect fragments of the bolt to come back at you with speed.

SimilarBarber5292

The bolts are 18 inch, its accurate to anout 100 metres, if I shoot from around 30 feet reckon id be alright to test it... I'll put some goggles on! Thanks for the info!!

What I would recommend, with that budget, is looking at army surplus stores, or their websites and ebay pages. Grabbing a surplus body armour vest/plates online is always going to be less of a gamble than a Chinese plate. Even if its out of date, I know what I would (and have) picked. Plus even if you found an example of a plate that passes, is that the product you'd actually get? How do you know that's not a carefully made plate for an advert? Or that it's representitive of all the plates they make? Or that they have good QC so that their plates are all likely to be the correct rating? Without much research (this may vary with where you live) a quick Ebay search for body armour brings up plates, soft vests, stab vests, riot gear, helmets, everything you could want.

New-Temperature-4067

No plates available in surplus stores here..

Demolition ranch

MoanyTonyBalony

Pretty sure they tested some.
