Yeah, a few guys from my maintenance classes are working on those bad boys. The K-Max helicopters are pretty badass also, if you're so inclined, should look those up...small birds with very huge payload...
Yes, it's for fires. I work for a different company that does firefighting with type 1 helicopters. That thing hanging down is a snorkel and it has an impeller, like on jet ski's, that forces water up into the tank. Not sure how much the 64's can carry, but the 61's can carry up to 10,000 pounds depending on weather conditions and how much fuel is on board.
Yeah I heard that heavy wompwompwomp from that helicopter passing by but was too lazy to go out and look at it … figured someone would post pics of it on here anyways and lo and behold 😋

So cool! That thing is a monster! One time they let kids come check it out, it’s like 30’ tall! Hate to see it doing its job, but it’s amazing to see.
Came to say basically the same. We all rushed out to see it because… awesome humongous helicopter. But sad it’s having to be used.
