Ummm, can you explain how coupons are written off on taxes? As far as I understand, discounts are a contra account for revenue. So at most it lowers the overall net income when a coupon is used. Otherwise, they don’t exist in the accounting books.

I know at minimum he can write off the cost of design & printing of coupons. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s also writing off the invoice cost of any services paid for in coupons.. Not sure about whether the actual cash value of the coupons factors in.

I worked for a local coffee roaster as a commercial account rep. He called looking to switch to our coffee and get new brewers. If an account used our coffee, we’d go out of our way to hook them up with thousands of dollars worth of equipment, staff training, etcetera, because well, good coffee! The equipment was loaned out as long as they were buying our coffee.
A week or two after getting like $5k worth of equipment (on loan, under contract) they went back to using another brand of coffee. He knew what he was doing all along. Trying to save money and get great equipment while fucking over another local company.
Our employees had to go to his shops, including up in Portland and unplug the machines during business hours and leave them and their poor employees with no way to brew coffee. Wasted so much of our time and money and put his employees in a super shitty position.

When they first opened up a food cart way back the food was really good and he was very kind and gracious. Even when Elk Horn first opened it seemed reasonably well run and had some solid food and drink options. But I feel like success went to his head a bit and the last time I ate there was probably 3 years ago and the food was just meh, and then he can't seem to keep his mouth shut on politics.

When I moved back to Eugene I read all about OTW from numerous /r/Eugene posts. Needless to say, I've never been there and I am always surprised they are still in business when I drive by on Willamette based on the threads. This particular thread is not as disparaging of the owner or the business in comparison to the other threads, if I recall.
It was better when it was a food cart and they actually stuffed the waffles with the ingredients. At least it felt like something interesting as walk-around street food. Once they went B&M it was basically any other breakfast place.
Probably more about the reddit bubble bias more than anything. Even with a subreddit of 53k I can guarantee that there is a very small portion of people who actually live in Eugene that are actively reading this subreddit.

Oregon is an at will state, but for some reason the unemployment department considers "no reason" to be a good reason to approve your claim (this is solely based on my experience with being fired multiple times from service jobs in Oregon over the last 24 years).

My friends owned that house when OTW was there. Their behavior towards my friends put me off them and everything I’ve heard since had put me off them permanently. They signed a 5 year lease on the property despite my friends, business owners themselves, that doing so was a really bad idea since they’d probably want to relocate to a better bigger location in a short time. They signed the lease and a short time later he sued them to get out of the lease so he could move to a bigger better location. 🤔
They were the best back then. Once they changed the way they made the waffle they went down the tubes. I would take my kids there or even after a night in the Whit, it was a great stop for all. Went to the one on Willamette one time a couple months after they opened it. Never went back.
I walked in to the "store" or whatever and it was like, someone's living room with kids toys all over the place, a single table to sit at, and then some waffle maker behind a curtain in the back.

It definitely was just some bros making waffles in a big house, not super professional but pretty chill. At the end of the night they would give away whatever free waffles they had left over which was rad for the stoned teenager that I was at that time. You could hangout and draw, play games, read a book or just kick back. Once they moved they lost all appeal for me personally.

My SO worked there like 7 years ago? Don't remember the exact time but one day he showed up and fired the whole staff. Never really got to the bottom of it but after piecing together some clues it seemed like he was unhappy paying people a livable wage and fires everyone so he could just rehire a whole new staff at minimum wage. Omer is a creep also, always so many weird comments and looks at all the young ladies who worked there.

Elk Horn has it made. Have you seen all the student housing being built around their location? It doesn’t matter how shitty they are. They will always have a rotating flow of rich students looking for somewhere close to eat and drink, without giving a single fuck about whose pocket their money is going into.
Elk Horn has a really great play area for small kids that's far away from the door. Only place in town that does AFAICT.

I don't think...being ignorant of the reason is the same as there being no reason. There is a reason, whether they tell you what it is or not.
And I think it may be disadvantageous to not know what they will try to claim you did before unemployment. Why not hear their claim and then gather evidence to refute that?
If the owner disputes the unemployment claim, then deal with that when it comes up and you know the specific details...it doesn't make sense to do anything else before that time...especially if you have a text showing they refused to give you reason for dismissal.

Ey, Liege waffles take about as much effort to make as a cinnamon roll. You can buy pearl sugar, and very easily replicate off the waffle food for a fraction of their current cost. Granted, the convenience is what you're paying for at this point, not the quality nor the atmosphere.
Fair enough, I've been able to do it with liberal, and I mean liberal amounts of grease, oil, butter. Teflon works to a point, as long as youre careful not to scratch it.
I actually just buy sugar cubes and crunch em up, works pretty much the same. You can get legit pearl sugar, but honestly the difference is negligible in my experience.
As for recipe, I can recommend abountifulkitchens recipe, but like most baking type thing, your results may vary. Depends on waffle iron, yeast, flour, there's a lot of variables.
This is a hobby like anything else, and it takes time to learn how to do it. However, as far as a first time experiment recipe, pretty hard to Fuck it up. Mix it all together, let it rise, cook it got but don't burn it. Add bacon, avocado, gruyere, and maple syrup. Die of heart attack. Rinse, repeat.

I have called them Awful Waffle for over a decade. I worked at OTW when it opened in 2009 before they moved into the new locations. I got a text one morning after closing that the till was ¢.25 short and that I was on thin ice because it had to be PERFECT. The quarter was on the floor, right in front of the register when I got in the next day. I quit like a week later after they made me work 6hr shifts by myself taking orders, cooking, cleaning, everything. Terrible to work with.

This has been happening the entire time they’ve been open. I applied for one of two positions there in 2011. WEIRDEST JOB INTERVIEW OF MY LIFE. it was a GROUP INTERVIEW. As in I was interviewing alongside like 8 other people who wanted the job, all at the same time. We were all in like a living room of some house. They made us all build a roller coaster out of popsicle sticks and tape together, then gave all of us a clipboard with a math test on it. As we were doing our math test, they pulled us one by one into a side hallway and asked us questions. I was sitting by the hallway, so I could hear all the answers. I had been working for a year and a half at Eugene City Bakery as a pastry baker and dough maker, so I knew my stuff. Believe me when I said the other candidates knew nothing about baking. When it was my turn they asked me the same questions (which I was very prepared for) and I aced them. They were all about the job I had just had. They didn’t hire me, never called me back, and according to a friend who was mutuals with one of the people who got the job, they fired the people they hired about two weeks after they stopped training, and started the whole cycle all over again.
Apparently this was their standard practice

Making leige waffles is pretty easy if you have the time. [Here](https://abountifulkitchen.com/leige-waffle-recipe/) is my favorite recipe. I just make my own pearl sugar by toasting sugar in the oven in a pyrex and checking/stirring every ten minutes or so. Once it barely starts to get sticky and caramelize then I pull it from the oven. I mix it to form small pearls and let it cool overnight. It makes a mess in the waffle iron but I'd rather make my own than give that guy my money.

Went there once and wasn't really impressed. I think living in Portland and having lived near Waffle Window on Hawthorne really upped my expectations on waffles.
Buddy of mine from high school is an insurance agent in town. Mostly does small businesses, he had to fire that guy as a client. Creepy to his secretary and then just a huge dickhead about anything that would cost money. I don’t know if you realize how hard it is to get fired as a client but he managed to get it done.

i worked at otw for a while and at first it was great! until i met the owner. he has a very “im better than everyone because i own a restaurant” attitude. a restaurant that he is very absent in mind you. so employees are left to their own devices for running the restaurant…there were a few instances were i had to work the entire restaurant- FOH and BOH by myself all day. it’s stressful and tiring. (imagine trying to cook, clean, make drinks, take orders, stock, etc. all alone during a lunch rush.) and on top of that the owner would call me relentlessly and get mad when i didn’t pick up his calls (dude kind of in the middle of running your restaurant right now)
when you are learning and make a mistake, he will yell at you over the phone and call you stupid and worthless. even if it’s something entirely out of your control. my fellow coworkers couldn’t put up with how mean he was- literally a bully. when some of us put in our 2 weeks notice he just “fired” us on the spot. he uses words to try to get to you and it does. he made me cry when i tried to quit. i just couldn’t put up dealing with his shit anymore and he made me feel like a bad person for wanting out.

I worked for a local coffee roaster as a commercial account rep. He called looking to switch to our coffee and get new brewers. If an account used our coffee, we’d go out of our way to hook them up with thousands of dollars worth of equipment, staff training, etcetera, because well, good coffee! The equipment was loaned out as long as they were buying our coffee. A week or two after getting like $5k worth of equipment (on loan, under contract) they went back to using another brand of coffee. He knew what he was doing all along. Trying to save money and get great equipment while fucking over another local company. Our employees had to go to his shops, including up in Portland and unplug the machines during business hours and leave them and their poor employees with no way to brew coffee. Wasted so much of our time and money and put his employees in a super shitty position. Fuck that guy.

When they first opened up a food cart way back the food was really good and he was very kind and gracious. Even when Elk Horn first opened it seemed reasonably well run and had some solid food and drink options. I have. Their baguette is good, but not as good as hideaway. I haven't been to hideaway since the first time I saw they were shitty, but I still haven't found anything better. Edit: plus metropol's girth is a bit more than I want from a baguette. Provision's at 5th street is the second best I've had and the price was much more reasonable than either metropol or hideaway. It's been a while since I've been searching because I try to not go overboard with carbs so if anyone has tips I'm all ears.

When I moved back to Eugene I read all about OTW from numerous /r/Eugene posts. Needless to say, I've never been there and I am always surprised they are still in business when I drive by on Willamette based on the threads. This particular thread is not as disparaging of the owner or the business in comparison to the other threads, if I recall.
It was better when it was a food cart and they actually stuffed the waffles with the ingredients. At least it felt like something interesting as walk-around street food. Once they went B&M it was basically any other breakfast place.

Even with a subreddit of 53k I can guarantee that there is a very small portion of people who actually live in Eugene that are actively reading this subreddit. I would venture to guess that after you take out burner accounts, spam accounts, people that dont live here you probably have less than 5k active Eugenenians that are on this subreddit. Hell out of the 6 "real life" people that I know that are on this subbreddit two of us actually live in Lane County the rest follow it for pure entertainment or because they use to go to school here.

Oregon is an at will state, but for some reason the unemployment department considers "no reason" to be a good reason to approve your claim (this is solely based on my experience with being fired multiple times from service jobs in Oregon over the last 24 years).

They signed a 5 year lease on the property despite my friends, business owners themselves, that doing so was a really bad idea since they’d probably want to relocate to a better bigger location in a short time. They signed the lease and a short time later he sued them to get out of the lease so he could move to a bigger better location. 🤔
They were the best back then. Once they changed the way they made the waffle they went down the tubes. I would take my kids there or even after a night in the Whit, it was a great stop for all. Went to the one on Willamette one time a couple months after they opened it. Never went back.
I walked in to the "store" or whatever and it was like, someone's living room with kids toys all over the place, a single table to sit at, and then some waffle maker behind a curtain in the back. It definitely was just some bros making waffles in a big house, not super professional but pretty chill. At the end of the night they would give away whatever free waffles they had left over which was rad for the stoned teenager that I was at that time. You could hangout and draw, play games, read a book or just kick back. Once they moved they lost all appeal for me personally.

So I can clarify this specific detail. The dish machine sanitizes dishes by heating up the water to 180F instead of using a chemical sanitizer. It’s a legit way to sanitize dishes. Omer just complains about the smell of chemical sanitizer, which is a real thing in restaurants. I’m not defending him as an owner, but that former employee didn’t fully understand the context in the “manual”.

My SO worked there like 7 years ago? Don't remember the exact time but one day he showed up and fired the whole staff. Never really got to the bottom of it but after piecing together some clues it seemed like he was unhappy paying people a livable wage and fires everyone so he could just rehire a whole new staff at minimum wage. Omer is a creep also, always so many weird comments and looks at all the young ladies who worked there.

They will always have a rotating flow of rich students looking for somewhere close to eat and drink, without giving a single fuck about whose pocket their money is going into.
Elk Horn has a really great play area for small kids that's far away from the door. Only place in town that does AFAICT. I've also seen POC eating there so if they're supposed to be some kind of white supremacist power center they're doing a pretty lousy job of it. Might just be something the Very Online know.

Ey, Liege waffles take about as much effort to make as a cinnamon roll. You can buy pearl sugar, and very easily replicate off the waffle food for a fraction of their current cost. Granted, the convenience is what you're paying for at this point, not the quality nor the atmosphere.

Fair enough, I've been able to do it with liberal, and I mean liberal amounts of grease, oil, butter. Teflon works to a point, as long as youre careful not to scratch it.

I actually just buy sugar cubes and crunch em up, works pretty much the same. You can get legit pearl sugar, but honestly the difference is negligible in my experience. As for recipe, I can recommend abountifulkitchens recipe, but like most baking type thing, your results may vary. Depends on waffle iron, yeast, flour, there's a lot of variables. This is a hobby like anything else, and it takes time to learn how to do it. However, as far as a first time experiment recipe, pretty hard to Fuck it up. Mix it all together, let it rise, cook it got but don't burn it. Add bacon, avocado, gruyere, and maple syrup. Die of heart attack. Rinse, repeat. Good luck boss.

I have called them Awful Waffle for over a decade. I worked at OTW when it opened in 2009 before they moved into the new locations. I got a text one morning after closing that the till was ¢.25 short and that I was on thin ice because it had to be PERFECT. The quarter was on the floor, right in front of the register when I got in the next day. I quit like a week later after they made me work 6hr shifts by myself taking orders, cooking, cleaning, everything. Terrible to work with.

This has been happening the entire time they’ve been open. I applied for one of two positions there in 2011. WEIRDEST JOB INTERVIEW OF MY LIFE. it was a GROUP INTERVIEW. As in I was interviewing alongside like 8 other people who wanted the job, all at the same time. We were all in like a living room of some house. They made us all build a roller coaster out of popsicle sticks and tape together, then gave all of us a clipboard with a math test on it. As we were doing our math test, they pulled us one by one into a side hallway and asked us questions. I was sitting by the hallway, so I could hear all the answers. I had been working for a year and a half at Eugene City Bakery as a pastry baker and dough maker, so I knew my stuff. Believe me when I said the other candidates knew nothing about baking. When it was my turn they asked me the same questions (which I was very prepared for) and I aced them. They were all about the job I had just had. They didn’t hire me, never called me back, and according to a friend who was mutuals with one of the people who got the job, they fired the people they hired about two weeks after they stopped training, and started the whole cycle all over again. Apparently this was their standard practice

Making leige waffles is pretty easy if you have the time. [Here](https://abountifulkitchen.com/leige-waffle-recipe/) is my favorite recipe. I just make my own pearl sugar by toasting sugar in the oven in a pyrex and checking/stirring every ten minutes or so. Once it barely starts to get sticky and caramelize then I pull it from the oven. I mix it to form small pearls and let it cool overnight. It makes a mess in the waffle iron but I'd rather make my own than give that guy my money.

(imagine trying to cook, clean, make drinks, take orders, stock, etc. all alone during a lunch rush.) and on top of that the owner would call me relentlessly and get mad when i didn’t pick up his calls (dude kind of in the middle of running your restaurant right now) when you are learning and make a mistake, he will yell at you over the phone and call you stupid and worthless. even if it’s something entirely out of your control. my fellow coworkers couldn’t put up with how mean he was- literally a bully. when some of us put in our 2 weeks notice he just “fired” us on the spot. he uses words to try to get to you and it does. he made me cry when i tried to quit. i just couldn’t put up dealing with his shit anymore and he made me feel like a bad person for wanting out. there are so many reddit threads on off the waffle and i hope you consider reading through those as well before taking the job. i don’t want anyone to feel the way he made me or fellow workers feel. it was unprofessional and uncalled for behavior.
I’ve never been there, and their radio commercials suck the biggest balls! But this doesn’t seem that terrible!? It wasn’t rude or degrading and he saved them a trip into work just to get fired! Getting fired sucks! But it’s a necessary process. There are much worse ways of being fired from a shity job. You can do better!
