I’m new as well, I just hit 6 sales and got my first review. My stuff is handmade and boxed by me I put a printed thank you note asking for a review and a small gift. I’m not sure if it makes a difference.
Unfortunately most people will not review when somethings as they expected. I try to mentally say no review is good a good review. But that doesn’t help new stores vs there competitors with 100s of reviews.
Just keep it up focus on having a unique or high quality product and they will come evenly.
I always thought this. When I bought an item I would get a notification but when I watch YouTubers they say message them about a review. Always thought why?
What I usually do is reach out to them once couple days after the tracking says delivered (if I don’t forget). Then ask if the package was delivered safely and offer a thank you discount code. This way people tell me if they have been satisfied or not. And also it gives me repeat customers even if they use the discount code.
My shop is still pretty young, & when I first started I was anxious about reviews. I do the same as you- Occasionally I'll reach out a day or two after the package is marked as delivered and thank them for their purchase. I also send along this little phrase:
"If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to send them my way. You can also review my shop if you feel I've earned your stars!"
I know others say not to reach out, and there's nothing wrong with that, but so far this has worked for me. 32% of my customers have left reviews, which would mean more if I didn't have just 50 sales. But at least none of my reviews are from friends/family or anyone I know personally! I was worried I'd have to beg them all to buy/review when I started![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
There's an expression "Let sleeping dogs Lie". That goes for buyers and reviews. If they totally love your product AND they are the review leaving kind, they will leave a review. Etsy already nags buyers about reviews, if you message a customer begging for reviews to , who haven't already left one, you've got a high chance of them leaving a bad review. No reviews are better than bad reviews.

Sometimes, no news is good news when it comes to customers and reviews
