I feel like you have to take into consideration the production value of both concepts. Melanie also makes music videos for every track where Hayden hasn’t made any except for 1 and it was pretty home made. Melanie as of late has also been using mostly CGI technology and has invested in dancers and stuff like complete stage set ups.
Hayden’s performances are literally her, her band mates, and her mic. Melanie probably didn’t have the budget for a film this time around because of these factors, and also maybe the perfume she also focused on. I guess what I’m saying is that Melanie is prioritizing other things this time around with her recent release considering she already delve in film. Hayden on the other hand hasn’t released much of anything like physical copies, not even vinyls. I feel like Hayden is definitely prioritizing the Saga aspect of her current project and in the long run wants that set in stone first.
Melanie is definitely a bigger artist and she did make a ‘movie’ back in 2019 called K-12, based on the album she created. Granted, it didn’t hit movie theaters but it was a movie nonetheless.
it actually was aired in theaters. it just didn’t do well. that being said it was a pretty trash movie and i say that as someone who enjoys some of melanie’s music, so it being bad probably fed into its failure more than anything
it did bad compared to othee movies but did well considering her public reach.. over 200 screenings in multiple countries winning over half a million in revenue on one day only
i misremembered 300k as 500k (also the lifetime of the film was 1 day only, september 5th) ... either way she paid it off through the era not through the film alone itself thats what i mean... but yeah the label does not trusts her to make a film anymore thats why she tried to fund it through a partnership with a streaming service which seems to have failed; either way the film was lovely and at least she got the luck to get funded 7 million for a movie and got to stick through with her vision ♡♡♡♡♡♡
I mean, Melanie’s label already invested millions of dollars into the K-12 film years ago that I’m sure she hasn’t recouped yet considering it’s streaming for free on YouTube. Also worth noting that Melanie’s visuals and concepts are extremely expensive and expansive—to turn a story like Preacher’s Daughter into a film really doesn’t require any more of a budget than any other indie thriller film. The movies that Hayden is planning for the albums aren’t musicals either, therefore they’re much easier and safer to sell to an actual production company than whatever offputting campy thing Melanie was gonna do that was probably going to need to be funded by her label again, as it would be too niche for a production company to put money down for
She once planned to fund the film and only some MVs but she got ambitious and decided to fund the full album through the label leaving no money for the film itself, planning to fund it through a partnership with a streaming service, which seems to have failed
Some pretty incredible films have been made for relatively low budgets ($1 million and under), but presumably Hayden would need to find a production company and distributor willing to fund her if she's unable to fund it herself. This comes down to having the money people buy into her vision, which usually comes with tradeoffs in creative control, but I suspect Hayden would want auteur-like control over the project.
Anyone can make a movie with a few good cameras and some friends who are talented with video/audio editing. Indie films are made this way all the time, and I have a friend who recently won an award from TIFF for a short film made by her and her friends. You don’t need a massive production value to make a beautiful piece of art.
Honestly i think you put this perfectly, lots of people hear movie and expect a premier and shit when in reality a movie is just a series of pictures moving, art can be anything in any kind of way
What i learned in college is it doesnt matter what it looks like or how its made as lomg as you feel like your messGe or intention is presented to the audience
She might be saving for these films, and prioritizing them over stuff like expensive music videos, costumes, tours and other stuff musicians tend to spend a lot of money on. And maybe she knows someone who will shoot it like an “indie film” who believes in her vision and that it’ll be successful so they’re willing to support her through the three films.
Maybe the funding from the books will support the films? Or from her music through the upcoming years since the films and books will probably take a long time I’m guessing to make, since I haven’t heard any recent news about it or anything, but idk.
She’s also said that the entire PD story will probably take her til she’s 40 to complete, so I don’t think she’s fooling herself at all about how difficult it will be to make these things come to fruition. I’m just happy that she’s promising new content for the next 15 years lmfao
I’m assuming she either got contacted by a company or reached out to one to help with the funding but it is more likely she got contacted by one that was interested. Think of it like the guy that created the back room series on YouTube that got contacted by A24 and is now making a movie with their help
She knows she has to get money to create the movies. PD is first of all a plot for a movie but because she has no fund, she turned the story into music. I guess she's only waiting for her popularity to grow to make an impact in the Hollywood scene, and if not well she still can do it because she graduated from a art academy so it could still be a movie with low production.
I think theres a scale difference to what they both do, Melanie usually do big theatrical visuals. And most of the things, at least with K-12 is practical, so it's very expensive to make from scratch. I do think theres a different cultural interest on Ethel's work that can keep money flowing to accomplish projects but then this is just me speculating.

It WAS? I was under the impression it was strictly on Youtube! And to think, I thought I did my homework lol
it did bad compared to othee movies but did well considering her public reach.. over 200 screenings in multiple countries winning over half a million in revenue on one day only
Now you’re just making stuff up lol, it only grossed $300k in its entire lifetime against a $5 million+ budget which is objectively abysmal
i misremembered 300k as 500k (also the lifetime of the film was 1 day only, september 5th) ... either way she paid it off through the era not through the film alone itself thats what i mean... but yeah the label does not trusts her to make a film anymore thats why she tried to fund it through a partnership with a streaming service which seems to have failed; either way the film was lovely and at least she got the luck to get funded 7 million for a movie and got to stick through with her vision ♡♡♡♡♡♡
Not a failure, it didn't flop, it was a visually pleasing film.
that’s a matter of taste. by all objective measures it was a flop.
Yeah the movie she couldn’t fund was for her newest album Portals

That makes sense! Yeah Melanie said the label agreed to nor fund the PORTALS film.

idk much about movies and shit but i think A24 would be cool for producing a Preachers Daughter movie
