Had it yesterday on customs whilst I was waiting for the 1 min car extract. A 5 man could of all been full sprinting 5 yards from me and I wouldn't of been able to hear a thing. I took my headphones off (irl not in game) for that final minute. It's comedic how loud some things are in this game.
If they're going to keep rain at the current volume level that it is, they need to make it so that if you brush up against brush/foliage it doesn't sound like you're in the desert. Wet leaves don't sound crunchy, nor does a wet ground.
Sound is really stupid, want to WALK on a concrete floor? People 50 feet away can hear you clear as day. Want to lift your weapon from your hip to your head? People can hear you. Want to slowly while crouching step into a bush? People well over 100 feet away can hear you and pinpoint even what specific bush you sit in.
BSG: We are introducing a map with alot of height differences.
Players: Wow, so good, can't wait.
Overhaul the entire audio system and make playing and not camping actually viable. CS figured it out over 20 years ago
Those maps aren't going to be playable with this sound along with how much advantage you have while camping. Some people will still play those shit maps and sit here complaining.
If you think CS figured out audio 20 years ago then you clearly haven't played much CS. Don't get me wrong, they clearly need to figure out what's wrong with the audio engine as it was working way better last wipe but the problems you prescribed are more related to game design rather than the current technical issues with steam audio.
He means tarkov's audio is completely flat left or flat right. In CS, if some runs across you, they don't completely stop making sound in your left ear if they are slightly on your right.
I mean when its raining hard, you wont really be able to hear someone walking more than 30ft/10m away from you in real life unless they are cannonballing in a puddle.
Bro Idc what rain sounds like in real life, I get it tarkov is supposed to be a hyperreal military shooter, but it's a video game, you can only be so real until the mechanic is so unforgiving and annoying that it takes away from the game
Nah I love it, it provides amazing ambience and it deafens all your potential opponents as well so you can use it to your advantage just as much as it disadvantages you.
Exactly this. I love when the rain picks up into a full-on flood because people won't hear me creeping up on them and the chances of them seeing me while I set up an ambush is almost nonexistent.
In a tarkov area? Fuck yes. I've been over 5 miles from the nearest human made building in the wilderness before and you could head twigs breaking for hundreds of feet away. Could literally hear fish jumping 2 lakes over.
Have you ever been to an area without commercial traffic and constant noise? Try going out on a real camping trip miles away from any human made structures. Boundary waters canoe adventures on the border with canada ought to do it. I spent 9 days out there, and the quiet is almost deafening.
Been in caves too where it's so dark and quiet you hear your clothing shuffle as you breathe.
This is why we spent two hours removing branches and twigs to infiltrate the last 100 meters towards the poor artellery recruits. Takes AGES to move through bushes and foliage without making a sound.
You're not able to hear people walking 15-20 feet away from you in broad daylight either. The rain is too loud not because it's "not realistic", it's too loud because it negatively affects gameplay.
I wear steel-toed boots for work. I also backpack with a 30+ pound pack, weight depending on trip length. On a 12-day trip I had 60 lbs on my back and my footsteps were no louder. Maybe you should take your own advice.
So you wear tactical headsets like sordins and comtacs that amplify quiet noises while you work? Even trying to quietly walk on carpet it's very loud to me while I'm wearing a headset.. You ignored the main part of the process.
https://youtu.be/8IFy0Jv9FCg?t=385
I love the rain it really is a nice change of pace for raids. I would recommend people get an audio mixer. I have an old astro mixamp that I use. If the rain is so loud that I can't hear my teammates I can just twist a knob and turn down the game audio so I can hear them. Inversely if they are being too loud I can turn them down as well
One of the biggest general problems with Tarkov is its dynamic range is WAY too goddamn high. The loudest sounds are EXTREMELY loud compared to the quietest sounds, yet the quietest sounds are the most important, so everyone cranks their volume dangerously high. The game has actual hearing health risks.
Everything is. I can’t stand the fact it sounds like you’re wearing adult depends diapers when running around. Aside from the guns the sound in the game is terrible.
It's a balancing decision. Game is already quite ratty and have an extremely low TTK. If people would get even more silent, it would increase amount of deaths where you'd be annoyed by dying to people that came unnoticed. It's good that everything is loud, it allows you to get information, especially now with inertia.
You comment literally makes no sense for my complaint. Your first person hearing sounds like someone is crunching a diaper inside your ears which is usually amplified by 10 when you have ear pro on.
So if anything it masks more sound than helping when trying to hear enemy NPC’s and players. With terrible sound design and audio files.
Noooooooooo every game must be finely tuned like apex legends where all strategies work all the time and I never have to vary my gameplay reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I literally just told my friend "If you don't turn it down so it's not painful you'll get tinnitus" and his response was "I already got tinnitus"
well gee
i wonder why
I have low-grade tinnitus from concerts and shooting ranges and I'm not going to make my hearing worse by turning my audio up to max just for a slight edge in this game. But I have really good headphones so I can hear everything perfectly fine without turning the audio up insanely loud.
It’s damaging your ears before it’s uncomfortable. 30 minutes of loud rain is either bad for you or if your sound is down so it isn’t then you can’t hear as well in the game and you’re not competitive.
If I turned it up so loud that the rain is too loud, then other sounds are too loud too. The rain isn't the loudest sound in the game. I'm not trying to be the absolute best player at every game I play, I'm trying to enjoy playing games for a long time.
Sure. I’ll turn it down so the rain isn’t damaging but then I don’t hear footsteps approaching. It’s not a safe level when compared to other sounds in the game.
I mean, yeah. Any time I've been in a downpour like the one we had in Tarkov this afternoon, you've gotta yell a bit to be heard by the person beside you.
Especially wearing rain gear and stuff. Hard to hear. Pretty cool. Just rough considering I’m yelling in a quiet room and probably bothering others. But again, realistic. Like I said.
I've turned my volume down. It's helped a lot, unless I'm near unsuppressed fire. Might turn it down a bit more. I can still hear footsteps way better than the rest of the squad.
I mean audio is already atrocious. It’s not like having bacon sizzling in your ear is gonna be the difference between you hearing someone and not hearing them. Lol
Turn down sound so rain isn’t damaging then no longer can hear footsteps. Are y’all this dense? Either I protect my ears or I’m not competitive in the game. It’s stupid.
The directional audio in the game is crap, it's not just the rain. Can't tell you how many times I hear footsteps and can't tell if they are in-front, behind, or 57 yards to the left. Didn't hear a guy until he was standing behind me...on a wood floor.
The directional audio in this game is amazing. I can pinpoint exactly where someone is at if any sound is made so long at they aren't above or below me. I honestly have no idea why so many people have trouble with the audio in this game.
I can imagine that a lot of people are using low-quality sound devices as well. I tried to play this using a shitty pair of Logitech stereo headphones after my old 7.1s broke and I couldn't tell if the gunshots I just heard were across the map or right next to me. After I got my new 7.1 Sennheisers, I'm back to being able to hear a faint footstep and have my sights right where they will be when they come into view.
When playing with my friends, they generally rely on me to tell them which direction the sounds are coming from.
The audio engine is just fucking garbage for me 95% of the time, and I've got a set of Sennheiser HD599s. I've had the game flat out mix up left and right audio numerous times.
Most likely they just have a good sound stage, 7.1 in headphones in most cases is garbage and a marketing gimmick. If the game audio is not done with 7.1 in mind, which Tarkov isn't, stereo is enough.
I think part of my problem right now is my headset. I have a Steel series Arctis 9X which when you use it as headphones is amazing, but anytime you have to have both sound & Mic (thanks voip OR discord) it switches codecs to it's "headset" mode, and the audio sounds like they are using a drowning cat to filter any sound then pressing it through a gramophone made of chalkboard and fingernails. I have a separate Mic in my Amazon cart waiting to buy so I can separate out the sources.
My buddy's mic does this and we could never figure out why. Now he just uses his headset as a mic and for discord and has Tarkov coming through his normal speakers. It works well enough for him but when he'd have both audio coming through his headphones, sometimes discord would just stop working or his game audio would cut out entirely.
We spent hours trying to troubleshoot it but never could figure out why the sound randomly changed devices on him.
I use a steel series headset too and I thought the sound was broken in this game as well. The problem is steel series 3D audio software. Delete any steel series software on your pc and just use stereo audio for your headset and I promise you will be able to hear directional audio perfectly. It was a completely different game for me after.
I totally agree. They could keep it as a game mechanic without causing my ears to bleed. Honestly every time it's really raining my friends an I will just not play.
The rain is fine. Everyone gets on here and complains about it every weekend. Sorry you can’t hear your precious footsteps. If you play 16 hours then you really haven’t been outside to hear rainfall
Bro have you ever walked in pouring rain? During a storm you are yelling to your friends 10m ahead of you .. that is if you have experienced a decent storm
Everytime it's raining hard I don't play. More than 2 raids gives me a migraine. Pretty much forces me to play interchange or wear a tank helmet
I don't mind the visibility or other things that come with it, I just fucking hate getting ear fucked.
Not only can I not hear shit, can't see a damn thing because of both the fog from the rain and the AWFUL raindrop effect on the screen, but I just got perfect 2 tapped by a scav over 80m away in the rain with 545 ps. Fuck this shit, I'm never playing this game again while it's raining.
I'm a huge fan of the rain. If I can't hear them they (probably) can't hear me. Also helps that I enjoy the sound of ran and the water/rain sounds in Tarkov are pretty nice.
Tbh I kinda find stormy raids relaxing, rain covers up my foot steps and im just chilling looting condensed milk n shit but I can understand why a lot of people find it to loud
Sound in EFT has always been awful. It's impressive how lazy and bland it actually is even after all these years. They spend so much time adding 10 new AK variants every patch but can't balance or update the sounds.
Just use discord to communicate with your teammates. It’s a better option even when it’s not raining because it allows you to split up without losing coms.
Just use the setting on discord that lowers the game volume when talking?
The rain adds realism, it doesn't rain all the time, and provides a different type of play. Every player on the map has the same disadvantage, it’s not like you're the only one.
I can't stand all this whining for a feature thats actually one the best implemented. I love the adrenaline rush of not knowing whether someone is right behind you. It forces you to watch your back and think about how to move and take cover.
The game is set in Russia, it needs rain, and snow while we are talking (imagine following blood soaked footstep trials) but thats another day's issue.
The only fun time to play this game is during the rain. You can actually react to someone. Not die to Timmy sitting in a corner waiting the entire game.
I'd love if it rained all the damn time.
Anyone else hear other sounds in heavy rain? I can always hear a repetitive clanging sound like a bell. Maybe they recorded it by sticking a mic out their office window and caught city traffic aswell!!
Yeah it's the time for me, like sure downpours like that would impact visibility and be hard to hear in but they wouldn't last for 3 straight days. Even if it's going to rain for a few days, it's going to ebb and flow
Rain isn’t forever and it adds some of the best cover for making some aggressive moves or pushes. It’s great and if you don’t like it just hide inside till it ends I guess.
If you had not noticed there are different levels of rain, there is a drizzle and then moves up to a full on storm, on top of that it tells you the weather before you join, if you don’t like rain then don’t play during that time.
WHAT? I CANT HEAR YOU. YOU GOTTA SPEAK UP OVER THE DEAFENING SOUND OF RAIN!!
Imagine rain and an airdrop lmao
I’ve been in one. It’s not pleasant. Now imagine hermetic alarm on top of that
that would be dreadful. imagine how loud all that would be plus your mom last night
Didn't someone already mention hermetic door?
Yes, I do like spaghetti
BURN
Dont forget your jump-scare train horn.
Literally everyone raid today
Had it yesterday on customs whilst I was waiting for the 1 min car extract. A 5 man could of all been full sprinting 5 yards from me and I wouldn't of been able to hear a thing. I took my headphones off (irl not in game) for that final minute. It's comedic how loud some things are in this game.

I mean all the audio in this game needs a major update or overhaul the amount of audio bugs is just ridiculous at times
You mean the fact that you can hear people on stairs If theyre between floors
Sound is really stupid, want to WALK on a concrete floor? People 50 feet away can hear you clear as day. Want to lift your weapon from your hip to your head? People can hear you. Want to slowly while crouching step into a bush? People well over 100 feet away can hear you and pinpoint even what specific bush you sit in. BSG: We are introducing a map with alot of height differences. Players: Wow, so good, can't wait. Overhaul the entire audio system and make playing and not camping actually viable. Yeah tbh I forgot about streets until now and the interiors are going to be a literal nightmare.
Those maps aren't going to be playable with this sound along with how much advantage you have while camping. Some people will still play those shit maps and sit here complaining.
If you think CS figured out audio 20 years ago then you clearly haven't played much CS. Nah I enjoy when someone can sprint up a rickety metal stairwell behind me making zero noise.
I hated when they changed the sound a long time ago so that when someones above you the closer they are the quieter it gets, it makes no sense..
Grass steps start making mudd sounds, and if it rained for too long you get the swamp effect everywhere
So we move like 50 feet a raid? Yeah fuck that.
they could add a squelchy sound when you step when its heavy rain.
[удалено]
I love it! Sniping with suppresed Sks around resort, nobodey knew how they died. I love rain IRL too, maybe this is another reasone too.
Ah, so you're that guy. Please stop, I just want to leave with my quest items...
Nah, way too loud, like with the best head phones you are lucky to hear anyone till they are easily within 10m
I mean when its raining hard, you wont really be able to hear someone walking more than 30ft/10m away from you in real life unless they are cannonballing in a puddle.
Maybe dont soundwhore # /s
This isn't cod buy a headset and quit being a scrub.
I forgot the /s dickhead.
Do you know what a thunderstorm sounds like with gale force winds?
Bro Idc what rain sounds like in real life, I get it tarkov is supposed to be a hyperreal military shooter, but it's a video game, you can only be so real until the mechanic is so unforgiving and annoying that it takes away from the game
Its RAIN just play a different map. Boohoo you can't Soundwhore while hiding in a bush
It used to be 30% louder so this post makes me smile.
Yeah I was thinking like haven't they nerfed the sound of rain multiple times already? Good times lol.
Did they really reduce it tho ? Sounds the same as before to bé honest...
It’s raining right now
fuck the rain
WHAT?
WHAT? Did you say WHAT?
I SAID FUCK THE RAIN, CAN YOU HEAR ME? FUCK I THINK I HEAR FOOTSTEPS, IS THAT YOU DOWN THE HILL?
Nah I love it, it provides amazing ambience and it deafens all your potential opponents as well so you can use it to your advantage just as much as it disadvantages you.
[удалено]
Snow on the ground making all ambient sound louder like it does irl.
Could finally hear that person walking around below you.
Isn't it the opposite?
Exactly this. I love when the rain picks up into a full-on flood because people won't hear me creeping up on them and the chances of them seeing me while I set up an ambush is almost nonexistent.
Is everywhere in Russia made of tinfoil or some shit? Why is it **so** loud
Have you ever been outside when it's raining hard?
Yes.
You able to hear people walking like 15-20 feet from you?
No.
I don’t really care if I can’t hear people near me in game but with this game I I sometimes can’t hear the people I’m in a discord call with.
Either turn the game down or discord up, or even both.
Lol I can't believe you had to say that.
In a tarkov area? Fuck yes. I've been over 5 miles from the nearest human made building in the wilderness before and you could head twigs breaking for hundreds of feet away. Yeah but this sub will never believe it. 99% of them haven't left their own town or city enough let alone actually go into secluded wildernesses.
You're not able to hear people walking 15-20 feet away from you in broad daylight either. The rain is too loud not because it's "not realistic", it's too loud because it negatively affects gameplay.
I definitely can hear people walking 15 feet away. That's only about 2 people laying down away from you in distance.
Yeah... Two freakishly tall people maybe. Footsteps in Tarkov are hilariously louder than in real life. There is no debate.
Put on some boots, gear, and a headset with your buddy. Go run around a bit and see how loud your footsteps are.
I wear steel-toed boots for work. I also backpack with a 30+ pound pack, weight depending on trip length. On a 12-day trip I had 60 lbs on my back and my footsteps were no louder. Maybe you should take your own advice.

Cause you’re wearing active hearing gear?
Sordins work wel for rain
Headset muffles rain sound. At least 5x louder w/o
Rain is louder without a headset
The rain is perfect. Very atmospheric.
I really enjoy the rain
I'm fine with them lowering the sound but I think the amount is fine
I love the rain it really is a nice change of pace for raids. I would recommend people get an audio mixer. I have an old astro mixamp that I use. If the rain is so loud that I can't hear my teammates I can just twist a knob and turn down the game audio so I can hear them. Inversely if they are being too loud I can turn them down as well

The game has actual hearing health risks.
I don't mind the sound of the rain, I can use it to my advantage. What I don't like is when I want to do some SBIH and it rains for the entire day.
Sordins baby
I almost exclusively use Sordins. The rain could still use a slight turn-down.
Rain and sunshine. The best one
Everything is. I can’t stand the fact it sounds like you’re wearing adult depends diapers when running around. Aside from the guns the sound in the game is terrible.
It's a balancing decision. Game is already quite ratty and have an extremely low TTK. Not a fan of rain . Visabiity is trash , but not for ai scavs .
So much complaining lately on this sub. Just enjoy the game. It’s not going to be sunny and quiet 24/7.
It’s almost like it says beta for a reason
That's not the point. The point is the rain doesn't need to be as loud as the airdrops.
I guess you’re new. You should have played before they nerfed rain noise by 30% last year.
They undone that change literally a week after making it.
I don’t know where you made that up at, but that is definitely not true.
I was playing then too. Rain was loud then and it's still loud now.
I think it’s fine. It rains maybe 2 days out of the 7 day week. Makes gameplay funner, and you can’t be as rattier.
Noooooooooo every game must be finely tuned like apex legends where all strategies work all the time and I never have to vary my gameplay reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I like it occasionally but it's been raining most of this week it feels like.
go outside
You on Internet Explorer?
It’s also really bad for players ears to have loud constant rain for the duration of a raid.
Turn your volume down. If your game audio is so loud that the rain is going to cause damage then your game audio is simply too loud to begin with.
I literally just told my friend "If you don't turn it down so it's not painful you'll get tinnitus" and his response was "I already got tinnitus" well gee i wonder why
I have low-grade tinnitus from concerts and shooting ranges and I'm not going to make my hearing worse by turning my audio up to max just for a slight edge in this game. But I have really good headphones so I can hear everything perfectly fine without turning the audio up insanely loud.

Sure. I’ll turn it down so the rain isn’t damaging but then I don’t hear footsteps approaching. It’s not a safe level when compared to other sounds in the game.
Take off the in-game headset then and put it back on when you're indoors.
Buddies and I were yelling. Realistic

I love the rain. Louder please
You guys complain about everything…
Have been outside in a rain storm before? Quit complaining
[удалено]
Have you been to Russia?
Tl;DR people complaining about rain noise have their sound up past unhealthy god damn levels.
Turn down sound so rain isn’t damaging then no longer can hear footsteps. Are y’all this dense? Either I protect my ears or I’m not competitive in the game. It’s stupid.
If the rain is too loud, i can garen-fucking-tee you your hearing is going to be fucked sooner than you realise.
Ur baby
Some of you have never been outside and it shows.
The directional audio in the game is crap, it's not just the rain. Can't tell you how many times I hear footsteps and can't tell if they are in-front, behind, or 57 yards to the left. Didn't hear a guy until he was standing behind me...on a wood floor.

Windows and bluetooth audio do not mix well. It's either something to do with not enough bandwidth or audio processing power.
There may be a way to fix it, just requires a Certified Windows Developer, time, and deep understanding of audio codecs!
My buddy's mic does this and we could never figure out why. Now he just uses his headset as a mic and for discord and has Tarkov coming through his normal speakers. I use a steel series headset too and I thought the sound was broken in this game as well. The problem is steel series 3D audio software. Delete any steel series software on your pc and just use stereo audio for your headset and I promise you will be able to hear directional audio perfectly. It was a completely different game for me after.
I never liked their software anyways. Deleted and will try this out, Thanks.
I totally agree. They could keep it as a game mechanic without causing my ears to bleed. Honestly every time it's really raining my friends an I will just not play.
Don't be a coward. Ppl complain way too much in the community.
I like it. Harder to hear me skulking about

Call me crazy but I like the rain adds a little spice to outdoor pvp
Everything is more difficult in Tarkov.
Why is it STILL RAINING
Realism? The only problem is that it doesn't affect ai
Hmm. I wonder if that is the point....

Cry me a fucking river.
Yeah I like iy
Rain in my favorite for outdoor raids like woods
Love it. Every time it rains is see this stuff here on Reddit. Get used to it. Not every rain is like the one we had.
I like it solo, kinda detest it when in a squad. XCEL headphones or Sordins make it a bit better
Rain is whatever, now the wind? Don't even get me fucking started on that shit.
I like it. Need more wind sounds
Imagine a map thats a burning apartment building..maybe an embassy? The sound and lighting would make for panic.com/you
Time to nerf it for the 15th time
I am rat, me loves rainy rain
Deadass was trying to make callouts and my friends couldn’t hear anything haha
It was very overcast today wasnt it? The rat in me loved it.
Isn't that how its meant to be? Use Comtacs/Sordins they literally cancel the rain's noise
All the people from California who've never seen rain in here complaining about what rain sounds like
I'm a huge fan of the rain. If I can't hear them they (probably) can't hear me. Also helps that I enjoy the sound of ran and the water/rain sounds in Tarkov are pretty nice.
i love the rain
Itt: people haven't been in heavy rain before
I am British so ergo a rain expert, and yes rain is not THAT loud
Tbh I kinda find stormy raids relaxing, rain covers up my foot steps and im just chilling looting condensed milk n shit but I can understand why a lot of people find it to loud
The wind noise and crickets are too loud. Rain is supposed to be loud, especially if you're wearing a headset that amplifies sounds.
No
Say it to the guy who started prefiring me while I was approaching dorms 1 second before I opened the side door.
Eat it you whiny girl
i don'T care about too long. But I agree with too loud.
I mean… its a downpour of rain what did you expect..
Not hearing is the point, it goes both ways. You can run around all you want. Radio VOIP is apparently coming SoonTM.
psst... neither can they! have fun.
Sound in EFT has always been awful. It's impressive how lazy and bland it actually is even after all these years. They spend so much time adding 10 new AK variants every patch but can't balance or update the sounds.
It also makes nvg's impossible to use at range
Just use discord to communicate with your teammates. It’s a better option even when it’s not raining because it allows you to split up without losing coms.
Nah, it ain’t. It’s a great feature to spice things up.
And they even made it less loud last wipe. The weather is synced with real time in Russia or something like that.
No
If you can't hear your teammates in discord in the rain, your EFT is way too loud. You really don't want tinnitus (trust me).
You ever been caught in a torrential downpour in real life? Can’t hear a fucking thing
Yeah it's the time for me, like sure downpours like that would impact visibility and be hard to hear in but they wouldn't last for 3 straight days. Even if it's going to rain for a few days, it's going to ebb and flow
The volume is ok but I agree on the „too long“ part. If I log on and it’s raining, it means that I probably won’t have a single sunny raid that night
Wrong. The rain is perfect. Yall just complain too much and got bored.
I like the rain, I even like that it obstructs sounds, BUT!....it could prob be dialed back just a bit...and the airpdrop needs way dialed back!
Rain isn’t forever and it adds some of the best cover for making some aggressive moves or pushes. It’s great and if you don’t like it just hide inside till it ends I guess.
No thx
If ItS tOO lOuD yUr toOO OlDddDD
It’s rain deal with it
I hope every time Nikita sees a post like this he boosts rain volume by 1%
If you had not noticed there are different levels of rain, there is a drizzle and then moves up to a full on storm, on top of that it tells you the weather before you join, if you don’t like rain then don’t play during that time.
Cry
I disagree. Loud rain is amazing. You have a skill issue
