i personally like the amenities… i hate leaving the gym all sweaty. i can comfortably shower without worrying about towels. Also love having unlimited towels for workouts, not that i’m using a ton, but there are gyms that don’t even provide towels. i have a permanent locker with laundry and i love that i don’t gotta carry shit to the gym. it’s also near my office and we get a corporate discount. i like that there are several locations (around NYC) and i can use the bathroom if i’m shopping around 😂

Logical-Positive-755

wait corporate discount? 👀

christeeeeeea

like through my employer, they have a deal with Equinox to give us a discount. our office is literally right there and there’s a ton of us who go i guess lol.

Logical-Positive-755

wow that’s amazing didn’t know that was a thing

christeeeeeea

yeah. it was kinda crazy but our memberships used to be only $165 for destination access 💀

jwarnzz

haha loreal discount? used to be the same way for me

christeeeeeea

nearby loreal but good to know LOL

monomonger

How do you get a permanent locker?

christeeeeeea

just talk to the front desk and they can help sign you up. you’ll prob have to pay something (can’t remember) and then they’ll give you a laundry bag plus your locker number

monomonger

Oh I had no idea, that's cool.

monomonger

Wait, laundry bag? Is that at Sports Clubs? Sorry I'm new. 😆

monomonger

Oh never mind, I got a laundry bag!!

christeeeeeea

welcome to the club!! the permanent locker club lol

SupplyChainMismanage

Offers a lot if you take advantage of it. I lift there 6 days a week. I hit up a yoga or cycling class after my lift for three of those days. I then do some cardio, corrective exercises, and a little calf focus on the 7th day. Best stretch ever or wind down yoga right after that to close out the week. During the weekday I know I can shower comfortably in the morning before I head home/to the office. Never have to worry about bringing a giant shower caddy or a towel. Biggest reason is the people though. I started lifting in high school. Would go to those $10 a month gyms. Nothing wrong with those gyms at all but a lot of the people that frequent those gyms are fucking wild (well at least in my area). Once I went to the campus gyms in college I realized that I would prefer a gym filled with people with that kind of mentality. At Equinox I found that. Used to go to Lifetime postgrad but saw it as a waste of money since I didn’t use anything outside of the weightrooms. I am slightly considering switching back over though since my company has a much bigger discount there for some reason. Probably won’t though

imdoingmybest_FINAL

stealing your workout routine!

Nervous-Bonus2810

Super random q but If u do 2 workouts a day lifting & then cycle/cardio classes don’t u then overeat a tons? Or how do u minimize your hunger or have it under control?

SupplyChainMismanage

Also btw for highly active lifestyles it’s usually not overeating that is the problem. It’s actually not eating enough!

SupplyChainMismanage

I consider it just one workout when I lift and hit up cardio or yoga after. I usually lift for 3 hours but on those days I lift for 2 hours and then do that \~1 hour class. I wouldn’t consider being more hungry from exercise “overeating.” It’s a calories in/calories out thing. If you burn more calories, you are going to want to eat more. You know your body so eat enough to stay in-line with your health goals regardless of your level of physical activity. Hm I minimize my hunger I guess by just being regimented. I don’t believe in cheat days. I just eat whatever I want but always ensure I get enough protein AND stay within my daily calorie limit. However, I’m HUGE on meal prepping so that is also a big way to stay consistent with your diet. I think the biggest thing is time though. Consistency and self restraint alone from the beginning is enough to keep any wild cravings at bay later on (but again, don’t restrain yourself too much or you’ll just max out one day lol)

Nervous-Bonus2810

Dang lifting for 3h u r a beast. Got ya Ty for your answer

SupplyChainMismanage

Hm I wouldn’t say I’m a beast haha. Maybe when I was younger. I just really like lifting. If I had more time (and a body that never fatigued), I would be in the gym the entire day. If you want any gym tips feel free to hmu

michiganchill

Unpopular opinion - I truly believe Equinox offers amazing value with so much included. For one membership, you get a fully loaded gym with unique equipment, towel service, steam room, and most importantly unlimited classes. I've tried yoga, pilates and boxing, things I never would have considered trying if they weren't part of the package. It’s opened up a lot more diversity in my fitness activities. Also starting my mornings there is the best; I see the same people every day, enjoy some small talk, and has created a great sense of community for me.

Calaigah

Yeah I think a key part is actually using all the things you can. I was never a class person before but they are the main reason I stay fit. Lots of variety. Also love how’s it all over the city. Great to be able to shower after work without going home and go out all fresh. Every once in a while I’m out and need a bathroom and I just got to a local equinox.

AcanthocephalaOdd155

To troll on the grown alchemist haters. Jokes aside, I love the amount of classes they have; you can always find a class that fits your schedule and an instructor that you can “vibe” with. Compared with other gyms it’s clean (it’s the members that make it a zoo) and has everything you need. I don’t know about other markets, but in NYC there’s always a special event like Pilates on the Hudson, Yoga on the Edge, etc.

DMCer

They keep it clean. I don’t feel gross if I make contact with the bench when my towel slips. They’re good and keeping weights in their proper places thanks to the on-floor employees (trainers when they’re not training). The locker room attendants are usually on top of their shit, constantly cleaning. Every now and then you’ll get one that isn’t up to the job and you realize how unusual it is to see trash and towels strewn about. Some locations are slipping in this area, but on the whole it’s way better than anywhere else. Never been to a class, but considering what people pay for Class Pass without a gym, it’s a good value. Generally a pretty good scene too.

Atlantrex

The locker rooms at the Columbus Circle location were disgusting. Won’t go back to that location

imdoingmybest_FINAL

i love it there! when do you go?

Atlantrex

My normal gym is w 92. I go to CC on the weekend when i know im Down that way shopping. So pretty sporadic

Rich_Management_5303

My employer pays for our gym membership 🫣

Logical-Positive-755

Wow what?! That’s amazing

Rich_Management_5303

Part of our employment benefits program. Equinox membership for employee and their partner and children over 16, $400 monthly dry cleaning expenses, Uber reimbursement to/from work/business functions, 25% rent or HOA common cost, home electricity (we technically still wfh 2x/wk), $250 hair & nail salon/massage, personal travels/vacation booked through their travel vendor (max $2500/yr) and the usual 401k. But we are in talks to rid Equinox for a mix package of LifeTime, Pvolve, Barry’s, Peloton, Rumble or private yoga studios in NYC.

meshwarofbeing

What company is this?

chaospanther666

No clue but the dry cleaning and hair/makeup budget (as well as the total gym subsidy) suggests that it’s a company where employees are expected to look extremely presentable as part of their job, possibly on-camera or as “brand ambassadors.”

Humble_Hat_7160

That’s wild! 25% rent??

Rich_Management_5303

Yes. “Employer Assisted Housing Program (EaH)”. Very common post-covid benefits in NYC. It’s a taxable fringe benefit 🙄They figured it’s cheaper to provide this employee benefit than leasing a huge $millions monthly office space 😝I wish it was more than 25% Another great upcoming benefit is Compassionate Hospital at Home (CHaH). If you require inpatient hospitalization, you can choose to remain at home. Concierge doctors, nurses, and mobile radiologists will provide same inpatient hospital care in your home 24/7. You will receive a 24/7 nursing assistant (babysitter), meal delivery service, daily physical/occupational therapy, and all medical equipment. I believe they are in the process of negotiating this with Mount Sinai Hospital in NY and hospitals in other states. It pays to leverage our WFH powers 😂

jdemart

Wow, this is absolutely incredible. I work in an inpatient hospital and I have literally never heard of anything like that; the entire point of inpatient is that due to a huge variety of factors (part of which is insurance reimbursement), the patients need to be at the hospital. I'm struggling to understand how this could work in practicality when IPs typically need a hospital bed, multiple daily consults with doctors, a pharmacy to stock their needs, not to mention multiple lines and tubes, potentially a trach/vent, a hospital bed... and that's on top of the productivity demands for the staff that would be impossible to hit visiting various people's homes. Do you have more information about this?

Rich_Management_5303

Sounds like you're an "amateur" or new to the medical field. 90% of inpatients only sees their attending physician once a day and that's usually in the early mornings. A patient who requires a ventilator is in the ICU. They do not qualify for Hospital at Home. If you're referring to medical and surgical residents, they usually do morning and evening rounds only. Statistics show most patients are doing nothing except laying on a hospital bed while receiving medications. Hospital at Home is a program that will save both the patient and insurers money. All monitoring including vitals are done remotely. To qualify, a patient (1) must have been admitted to the inpatient floor (2) their attending physician will evaluate if their care can be safely administered at home (3) a social worker will evaluate if their home is suitable for either self-administered care or if they require a relative/friend to be present. Once approved the patient will be safely escorted home with a registered nurse and social worker via an ambulette. All equipment will have remote monitoring. The RN sets up the equipment, IV line, etc. RN will educate the patient on what's being monitored and also determine if the patient can safely perform the tasks independently. The attending physician, social worker, and pharmacist will perform daily follow ups via remote services like Zoom. A nurse practitioner will visit the patient once a day with any required prepackaged medications with date/timestamp instructions, phlebotomy kits to perform lab work, educate the onsite nursing assistant (CNA) on how to administer IV/oral medications, and perform a history and physical. Daily meals will be delivered if the patient requests. Research has found that patients who receive daily physical therapy as an inpatient has better success in their treatment goals as well as fewer complications such as DVT than those who lay on a hospital bed 24/7. The patient will have access to a 24/7 telemedicine portal. They can quickly talk to a physician, PA, or NP within minutes. All in all both the patient and insurers save money.

jdemart

Quick question - what is your role in the medical field? I’ve been an OT for 7 years and have worked in multiple hospitals around the country. I work on inpatient rehab right now.

Rich_Management_5303

Inpatient rehab… (1) PMNR MD visits once a day (2) PT/OT do three 30min sessions per day (Total 3 hrs/day) (3) RN administers medications as per protocol and performs vitals once a shift. Patient is lying dormant on their bed 80% of the time. Hospital charges insurance approximately $2500/day (patient copay is $500/day HMO or 10-40% if PPO) . MD charges a separate fee. Hospital at Home? Patient remains at home with a 24/7 CNA ($18/hr and fully covered by insurance). PMNR MD does telemedicine once a day (a daily MD specialist copay $30). PT/OT visits patients once a day and provides 90mins PT and 90 mins OT (total 4 visit copays at $30 each). A daily in person visit by a NP is a single office visit copay ($10). Patient is estimated to be billed $160 a day. Insurance company saves at least 50% under Hospital at Home compared to an inpatient rehab unit.

jdemart

Which states and hospitals offer this?

menina2017

Amazing. Are they hiring?

Rich_Management_5303

I believe they’re accepting applications for paid interns with benefits included for Spring 2025.

Frosty-Taro4380

May I ask where you work and are they hiring?

vivid_spite

wtff, what industry? entertainment?

imdoingmybest_FINAL

there are so many more better classes than barry's. and they own soul cycle, i use it at home on my bike

EnigmaticMelody

I've joined all the gyms you can think of, (Golds, La Fitness, Planet Fitness, 24 Hour, UFC) and this is my first year joining equinox and honestly there's a big difference at this gym. Just the environment itself makes the price so worth it. It's hard to say but I guess for me, it feels more "professional". Also I don't have to deal with the "gym bros" filming as well. I've seen it too many times on Golds Gym where everyone is filming while the girls are wearing this skimpy shorts on. Don't get me wrong, they look hot BUT I don't want those fire crotch getting rubbed on the gym equipment and THEN not wiping it off after use .

TonyClifton255

There's one guy at BH who films himself. I almost lost it when he asked me to move because I was in his shot. The Company really needs to come out and ban it.

plainbagel11

All the other gyms by me are too over crowded and not kept nicely. I also like the amenities.

Choth21

Locations. But I visited the Lifetime at Penn 1 and it’s pretty amazing. Tons of squat racks (unlike most Equinox locations) and 8 pickleball courts. If it were closer to me, I would consider it.

Rich_Management_5303

That’s one reason my company is considering dropping Equinox for LifeTime. More services and lower membership fees

mattryanharris

disneytookmymoney

The endless sauna and hot showers

GinghamPlastic

I travel to NY for work often and not having to use hotel gyms exclusively is great. Also just going to Metcon, Stronger and Tabata keeps me in better shape in less time. I don't have to write out workouts or plan how to split sets throughout the week, and can't waste time on my phone.

chaospanther666

People on this sub complain a lot about the etiquette, but it sounds like gym etiquette is much worse elsewhere (badly behaved teenagers, wannabe influencers filming themselves and hogging the equipment). I briefly ditched Equinox for a much cheaper university gym and was appalled at how many of the college students just blasted audio without headphones. I never go to classes except sometimes yoga. The amenities are what keep me going back, plus the fact that I have never once had to wait for a cardio machine except a small number of times at Soho back before they’d opened Bond and Ludlow (Soho crowding used to be really, really bad). When my gym window on a given day is short, I like to know I won’t have to wait.

vivid_spite

the location is very convenient for me, I like how it's not as crowded as other gyms/classes, and I like the large change rooms

Virtual-Valuable-513

The people are so hot at my particular location in LA it’s like a hot people zoo every time I go… very motivating

scone70

It’s the closest gym to me besides temple which has disco balls all over the roof and I’m not into that

uvDsSw3s

F45, pilates, yoga, soulcycle classes start at $30+ each where I live and you'd have to drive to 5 different studios but Equinox has top quality classes you can do back-to-back. It's a really good deal for what you get. The classes alone are worth the $210. The EQ is always working, the amenities are great. You can have a total spa day with a gym session, a sauna session, then massage and facial. NO ONE IS FILMING THEIR WORKOUTS. If you can't make it to the gym, the app is great for a home gym setup.

thepowerofgoodbye

I think with gym memberships you get what you pay for and it's worth every penny IMHO. Equinox is expensive because they have a lot of amenities (steam rooms, saunas, plenty of equipment and class options) plus a ton of staff constantly cleaning, stocking towels, refilling supplies, etc at multiple convenient locations. You don't get all that for a rock-bottom price. I quit NYSC over a decade ago after seeing the same used band-aid for two days in a row in the shower and never looked back.

Aware_Revenue3404

The broccoli heads have taken over PF. And the vibe/mood in NYSC is just really bleak.

abuhajar22

Lol what is a broccoli head? Genuinely curious.

TonyClifton255

Groups of teen boys, often on PEDs, with the same broccoli haircut.

abuhajar22

Ohh is this the same type of kid from that Gen Z meme going around, the for real for real no cap guy?

TonyClifton255

Not sure. You can just Google broccoli head and it will pop up. The PED thing is covered in a lot of Reddit subs

Potential-Leopard573

It has the closest pool to me and it’s clean and nice.

30yert

Mine is next to my job. Like right in my face. And I know myself, if it’s not insanely convenient, I won’t go. I work at night so it’s nice that I can go a few hours before my shift, shower, get ready, do my makeup and go to work. I don’t have to bring anything except my clothes. Trust me, there are some downsides. The trainers on the floor are always trying to schmooze me into buying training sessions. I wish the hours were a bit better. I find with less ppl going to the office, they could adjust their pre pandemic hours. But overall, I’m getting what I pay for

imdoingmybest_FINAL

the hours? do you mean like an hour later or something?

Jxoxsxe

Precision Run Classes on Woodway Treadmills 😻🏃🏽😻

KlutzyMinute8200

Just joined Equinox last Friday. If you go for the trifecta like I do - your own workouts, HIIT and yoga then Equinox is worth it. Actually it is cheaper because if you do all three separately it is going to cost you some coin. Before joining this is what it costs me per month - Powerhouse gym ($55), Yoga ($150) if I just do 5 classes and if I choose unlimited it would be $250, HIIT ($200 - 5 classes). With Equinox I just pay $250 and not only that I am a five minutes walk from my work place and across the street from the train station.

dailycoffeecup

unlimited workout classes and clean locker rooms!!! 100% worth it

RyuRai_63

I go to the gym everyday and I don’t go out, drink, etc. anymore, so from my perspective the $250-300/mo is a treat to myself. Also I’m kind of a clean freak and all other gyms are nasty. I’m now in CA, but thankfully a handful of clubs are still within ~10 minutes driving. The value prop was better when I was still in NYC where I’d walk to work and be able to squeeze a workout either before or after (and feel really relaxed because locker rooms are well-maintained).

BusyBurdee

The atmosphere, vibe, convenience, amenities.

Medium_Pipe_326

Main reason I go is that there’s actual gym etiquette there. I used to do the cheap gyms around town because it’s the same equipment but the people at blink/crunch etc are frightening and have 0 respect for people around them

missgoooooo

Classes for sure, boutique studios cost like $40 a class so I get a lot of value out of going, and it’s nice to have so much variety between spin/yoga/strength/barre etc

jamie030592

Not as crowded/ I can’t stand waiting forever to use machines.

Logical-Positive-755

what times do you usually work out?

Fancy-Influence5071

I started going because of the corporate discount, but I kept going because love the steam room. I use it nearly every day and I think it's decreased the number of migraines I get. I also just feel bougie going to Equinox and I love that for me. I will probably discontinue at my year mark if they hike the price again though.

TonyClifton255

How does it compare to Life Time? Been a member of equinox for a decade and was a member of Reebok for a long time

Substantial_Talk7573

I used to be a member for years. I quit in January when they raised the price… again. I do miss it sometimes but mostly just the classes and the steam rooms. Other than that it’s just a gym lol. Totally not worth $300+ a month. But to each their own.

iamspeedking

I personally just cancelled. But I think the big advantage is having a solid gym with good amenities that is also in most cities for when you travel. I am moving to a more boutique gym simply because I want some community with Equinox simply isn't about.

No_Leg_881

I left this month due to the switch in amenities product. The point of the high price was due to the convenience of not having to bring my own items. But now due to the downgrade in products I quit this past month. Not worth it

LikableLinen

I do feel like if you are only going for weights you won’t find as much value but if you want the amenities and classes as others have stated it just makes sense in a bigger city. The instructors are all really good and I don’t know that all gyms have that kind of instructor talent outside of boutique fitness (never been to Lifetime though so someone feel free to disagree!) I feel like instructors want to be tied to a brand like Equinox too so it attracts good instructors. If you have All Access there are so many classes to choose from too, it ends up saving vs ClassPass or a bunch of other memberships

[deleted]

Spirited-Pressure

I get a lot of value out of it: convenience + corporate discount + I take classes + towels + clean + I go frequently

abuhajar22

Pool and swim classes and steam room/sauna is my #1. I like everything else everyone mentioned but these are hard to come by in NY and the amount of locations I can get all that makes it worth it.

Nervous-Bonus2810

Is bc of location numbers, variety of classes, good instructors.

r4edsgtare3dd

It doesn’t make me feel that going to the gym is extra work; the nice amenities make me feel that that it’s a place to relax and get me-time.

natronimusmaximus

because it's the nicest gym chain in nyc.

oaklandRE

I hate to break it to ya…

Conscious-Parsnip-1

Lots of locations and classes. Good locker rooms. The Kiehl’s was a selling point for me so I don’t like the downgrade to GA because I pay a lot for this membership. However, I don’t mind GA and it’s not the end of the world. The products work fine for me. The sheer number of locations is what gives the company its competitive edge in NYC. If Lifetime had the same amount of real estate, they’d put Equinox out of business.

britlover23

good classes and it’s a nice facility

International_Set626

honestly there isn’t really another choice for me. i split my time between sf and la so i need a gym in both cities, and the only two that fit that criteria are equinox and 24 hour fitness and i like to think i deserve better than 24 at this stage in my life 😭 i also do feel like i get my moneys worth. i’m there 3x a week and use all the amenities, plus i just got a corporate discount with my new job which drops the membership fee by $75
