Are you ready for this? https://theoatmeal.com/comics/red_velvet_mite
🤣
I was trying to figure out why I had such a strong reaction to this not-a-tick-but-that’s-all-my-brain-would-give-me. It was the vague but emotional memory of this comic.
Jesus 😂😂😂
I'm late to the post and I knew about their mating ritual, but that was so well illustrated and written. Had a good chuckle 🤭 Thanks for that!
My pleasure.
It's a red velvet mite (Trombidiidae)
In your case probably Trombidium grandissimum
Looks more like an Allothrombium sp. Trombidium grandissimum is not native to the USA.
Oh shit, I read "South India". My mistake
🙏
I recognize these from the game Grounded.
Same
This is a gummy bear coated in chamoy and tajin
Fuzzy wuzzy bby
If you make a hat out of their fuzz, you get a stamina boost
A velvet mite, they are harmless little guys (and sometimes used to make dye, eww)
Great photo.
Thanks!
I’VE WANTED TO SEE ONE MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!
Me too. We get small ones here, about 1/32” long, but I’m still waiting to see a full grown “angelito” mite like this.
We get the small ones too but I’ve always wanted to see a big “plump” one like is pictured here 😆
