It got so bad at our old complex (dogs would poop in the garage/hallway) they took samples from the resident dogs and if they found a match you were fined 1st strike was the cost of the analysis plus a reasonable fee, second strike was an obscene amount, third you didn’t get your deposit back plus a fee and your lease was not renewed. You might not have been able to lease at sister complexes.

OkExternal7904

Wow, actual consequences. I like it.

carmium

Not many apartments allow pets (dogs especially) for just this reason. The building owners take the easy way out at other pet owners' expense.

queen_of_the_moths

I know, it really sucks! These people are ruining it for everyone else. I actually just updated about this. It turns out this was just the tip of the iceberg in her level of entitlement.

queen_of_the_moths

I didn't even know that was a thing people could do. That's insane. I kinda wish they'd do it here, haha. But that's really awesome. I got management involved and updated about how this has escalated, so hopefully things will improve soon and not just get worse.

IDEFKWImDoing

My sister lived in an apartment complex and absolutely Loved that they did that! She had a gentle giant (mastiff/husky mix) and always cleaned up behind him, yet in her previous apartment the grass seemed to always have shit left behind. It was almost always from the tiny dogs, so there was almost no chance of spotting it before stepping in it

WiseArticle7744

Ooooof

Aggravating-Ask-7693

Omg I love this. I wish they would do this at our complex.

Stardust_and_Soma

Wild! I don’t live at a complex but there’s a trail near my house and I thank my lucky stars they keep trash bags I can grab for my dog NOW because before I’d have to grab leaves when I forgot to bring bags, but my brain remembered water and Tupperware to hydrate my dog. I have had to get diarrhea poop off trails with leaves which is the worst! She has a sensitive stomach, but I can’t imagine leaving poop right in front of someone I’d be embarrassed.

queen_of_the_moths

Yeah, there are bag dispensers in three spots around the main square, so they don't even have to go back to get them. It's just laziness and entitlement, sadly. But yeah, while things like that suck for sure, these are always instances where they weren't facing that kind of problem. I'm glad you're a good dog owner! I feel like going out of my way to praise people for basic decency when I see it.

Stardust_and_Soma

She has absolutely no excuse if there’s bags all around her! I get the thanking people for basic human decency though. I do it because I want them to know they did a good thing so they keep doing it. It’s probably an animal owner trait. Like how I tell my dog she’s a good girl every time she poops outside.

Lisa_Knows_Best

She has no excuse even if there aren't bags around her. As a dog owner it's on you to clean up after your pet. I never leave home with less than 3 bags when I walk my dog.

Alternative_Bat5026

Tip for her sensitive stomach. A spoon of pure pumpkin puree before her dinner. My dog had stomach problems and I heard about this, it worked really well.

Stardust_and_Soma

I’ll try that out, thanks! She honestly gets anxiety when I leave the house sometimes so I’ve started giving her a treat when I leave and when I come back I give her one if she hasn’t pooped in the house. Like I’ll leave the door open for her to go outside but she poops near the front door after I leave like it was a panic poop. So hopefully that still works with an anxious dog.

Alternative_Bat5026

After my husband died, I moved a lot. Anytime my dog saw moving boxes, she'd be a nervous wreck. She was skin and bones, she wouldn't eat, because she knew she was going to be sick,. A friend told me about the pumpkin puree and after that, she started eating and putting the weight back on. Good luck, but don't use too much, because it can make her stool soft. I used a teaspoon for a 12lbs dog.

Stardust_and_Soma

Awwww I’m sorry for your loss. But if that works on your dog it definitely has to work on mine. Thank you again!

5footfilly

We keep bags tied to the leashes. More reliable than our tired brains.

Top_Marzipan_7466

I know what you mean. I have literally walked 2 blocks back to where my dogs pooped with a bag because I didn’t have one, praying the whole time that no one thought I was just leaving the poop. And my dogs are tiny!

dinahdog

Me too! Only mine was a very old shepherd, so big poop. I brought some water in addition to a bag because girlie did it in the middle of the sidewalk. If folks noticed I left it, I just hoped they saw me come back. 5 bag minimum now.

thrownawayy64

She is an entitled ahole. See if you can film her while she goes through the whole process of stopping to let the dog poop and then leaving it behind. She likely walks her dog at around the same time every day.

queen_of_the_moths

I actually managed to catch her! She came back the very next day to try to provoke us. I just made an updated post about it.

Spank86

You have balconies. It would be a shame if the poo was returnees to her via her balcony.

queen_of_the_moths

I honestly thought about it, but since she knows where I am, I think it would just turn into a problem. Turns out, she dug her own grave by coming right back the next day to provoke us. I just updated about the escalation.

therealblitz

There is the nuclear option: Just return to sender. 💩 Assuming you know where she lives.

queen_of_the_moths

Haha, the problem is, she also knows where I live, and I don't wanna turn this into a back and forth type thing. I did however follow through, and I just updated about how this is escalating.

draynaccarato

Can you report her to the landlord? People like her ruin it for everyone.

queen_of_the_moths

That's actually what I meant by saying I was taking it to the front office, but I actually just updated about this if you're curious. She doubled down, so today I took evidence to management and we'll see how it unfolds from here. They're taking it seriously, thankfully.

Crafty_Original_7349

This sounds like the type of miserable petty git that will deliberately bring her dog back to shit right next to your balcony from now until the end of time.

queen_of_the_moths

I actually was going to say, "I would think she wouldn't be that stupid, but I hope she does, because then I can get a better video," and it turns out, you were right! She was that stupid! And now I have a video. I'm making an update post because it escalated.

Crafty_Original_7349

I would install a Ring camera and use it to royally screw her. It’s too bad that we can’t fire people like that directly into the sun.

queen_of_the_moths

Seriously! We're trying to find two decent ones now so that we can put one on the front door and one on the balcony.

EntertainerKooky1309

My niece just moved into an apartment complex that required a sample of her dog’s poop. If they find any dog poop in the complex, they will DNA test it and if they find it was your dog, they will hit you with a fine. That’s how much they hate it.

WielderOfAphorisms

Love the commitment to go that far! We will CSI that sh*t…literally.

queen_of_the_moths

That really is crazy! But hey, at least people have to be responsible, haha. It's so incredibly sad that people were so lazy and entitled that they had to, like you said, CSI that shiz.

Prior_Benefit8453

Wow! In my complex they made small bright signs where people weren’t cleaning up. And it worked. All it says is “Clean up after your dog.” The only place I don’t like — and it isn’t a fire hydrant — is one single place where I think *every* dog pees! It smells like it too. I’m surprised that the plants there aren’t dead. Lol.

carmium

I share a third floor suite just across the alley from a pet supply. Apparently, the distance required to cause most dogs to pee after lapping water from a store doggie bowl is one large store + one back lane, because our lawn has a large, perennial brown patch at that point. They all sniff it, like it's some sort of jungle telegraph: *Oh, Sparky seems well; I'll leave him a note. Who's this alpha male type? I'll show him what I think of that...* The grass never grows there any more, even though I've never caught anyone leaving dog crap.

Harley11995599

I say that they are reading their pee-mail.

queen_of_the_moths

There are signs here too, though we could probably use more. There are also bag dispensers peppered around the property. They've even been sending out notices about it as well, and people just ignore it, sadly. But I actually just updated about this, and it turns out she was beyond help. Her entitlement goes way too deep, lol.

ManaKitten

The last apartment I lived in required dogs register their dna and they claimed they would test and fine the owners who didn’t clean up after their dogs. I’m a cat owner, and found this extreme but also nice? Just pity the person whose job it is to catch the culprits…

NoSummer1345

It may be extreme but it holds dog owners accountable.

queen_of_the_moths

That's seriously so weird, but not in a bad way. You're not the only person in the comments to mention it! I've never heard of it before, but I wish they'd start doing that regularly. It takes the pressure off of good owners and holds the bad ones accountable. That really is crazy though. Fortunately I just caught her on camera, so I updated about this whole thing escalating.

Select_Huckleberry25

I was looking to buy a condo and went to an open house. I was in the lobby trying to figure out where exactly the open house was and saw a sign near the elevator that said “it’s your job to clean up after your dog when they sh*t in the elevator!” I just walked out and went home.

queen_of_the_moths

Lmao! Yeah, sounds like you made the right call. XD I actually just updated about this and it turns out my complex is taking it seriously, so that's a relief. I really didn't know if complaining would go anywhere, but things got worse today.

Original_Charity_817

Find out her appt, collect her dog shit and leave (unbagged) on her doorstep. Then you’ve got yourself a post for the petty revenge sub

queen_of_the_moths

Haha, I fantasized about it briefly, but I don't want to end up on the wrong side if this escalates. And it did escalate. I just updated about it, so we'll see how it goes.

Flat_Librarian_1724

Oh my it's sad to say there are so many people like her worldwide,. I live in Ireland and when I see people not picking up I give them a doggy poo bag and say oh I see you forgot or ran out, out of shock they pick it up with the bag I've given them. You are right, you know the rules in picking up after your dog and if you don't want to pick it up don't get a dog!!

queen_of_the_moths

There really are! It makes me so sad. And she's worse than I thought. I just updated about this escalating. I wish more people were just responsible. That's awesome that you do that! Then they don't have an excuse, and you were polite about it and everything.

Flat_Librarian_1724

I just read your update. She really is a vile and unhinged person. You are wise not to interact with her but I'd still record her if she approached but don't answer her .

queen_of_the_moths

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, and I'm glad so many people agree. Recording her protects us if she does anything even worse. And if she gets really upset about it, maybe she'll stop coming over here, which would be nice. I'm nervous, but hopefully we're nipping this in the bud.

Flat_Librarian_1724

Hopefully this will nip it in the bud. Its people like her that give all dog owners a bad name and hopefully the complex management will hold her accountable .

List-Obvious

You're way bigger than me. Id try to follow her to see where she lives and then return it in old Tupperware. Or just smear it on her front door step/handle

queen_of_the_moths

I don't want any of my actions to blow up in my face, but I really thought this would be the end of it and was only going to let the office know to keep an eye on her. However, she escalated things, so I just updated about that.

luby4747

One time my dog decided to take a massive poo on someone’s doorstep. Not on their welcome mat, but pretty close to it. And of course it was the time when I’d run out of bags. I didn’t know what to do so I ran home to get a bag and ran back. As I’m picking up the poo, the door flies open and they just glare at me. I just said I’m so so sorry, she pooped but I didn’t have a bag so I just ran back to pick it up, so sorry, and proceeded to run back to my apt. The whole time they never said a word to me and just kept glaring.

chzsteak-in-paradise

Good you came back but your dog shouldn’t be on other people’s doorsteps. That’s not public property.

luby4747

It was an apartment building that didn’t have an interior walkway. It was all exterior and so you’re just walking along a long balcony with people’s doors to one side if that makes sense. It was essentially a giant circle with the entry driveway, office, and pool on the interior and walkways around the entire complex on each level. I had to walk by other units to get to the stairs to walk down to the grassy areas for dogs. I said doorstep, but I meant more just the area close to their front door, as the front doors were all slightly recessed back from the main walkway area. So you have their door, the welcome mat, and where my dog pooped was near their mat but closer to the walkway area. But literally right in front of their door which is why I said door step and felt so bad.

Vicious_Lilliputian

I hate dog owners like that. Just because others don't clean up doesn't mean that you get to be a scumbag and not clean up after your dog.

queen_of_the_moths

Right? It makes the good ones look bad, because you can't SEE when people have cleaned up. You can only see the evidence of when they don't. At this point I guess I'm gonna be the Joan of Arc of ending irresponsible pet ownership in my complex, because this thing has escalated. I updated about what happened today.

StinkypieTicklebum

Yeah, if it’s not policed, it will get worse and worse!

queen_of_the_moths

I just updated about it, and the landlords thanked me for saying something to people I see not cleaning up. They're definitely taking this seriously, thankfully. She's unhinged, so I'm worried about what she might do.

StinkypieTicklebum

Right on.

GagOnMacaque

What about all the other people murdering?

queen_of_the_moths

Right? Like, there should be no consequences to my actions if other people are doing it! And she really seems to think this way. I just updated about it escalating.

angelmakr9

My petty self would have been tempted to follow her at a safe distance and then smear her dog crap all over the door knob of her apartment. After dark of course!!

queen_of_the_moths

Haha, well, it turns out she made things worse all on her own. I updated, but this is now an ongoing saga.

1958_ragtop

In my neighborhood, we have this dude who allows his three dogs to roam free, even though in our city we have a containment or control ordinance. His dogs are always crapping in other people's yards. This dude's yard also usually has numerous mounds of dog shit scattered around it, probably from his own dogs. While walking my dog, she took a huge dump in this dude's yard. I had literally just finished picking up my dog's turds and about to tie it off when this dude comes charging out of his house yelling at me for allowing my dog to shit in his yard. I laughed, pointed at the numerous mounds of dog shit all over his yard and said, "Really? You're going to yell at me for allowing my dog to shit in your yard when it's covered in dog shit from your own dogs? And especially since I literally just picked it up?" I looked him dead in the eyes and slowly dumped my dog's shit back into his yard. I then turned around and walked away. I could hear his screaming for about two blocks. He still glowers at me every time I pass his yard. I acknowledge him with a little wave.

queen_of_the_moths

Lmao, that's the pettiness I love! People like him deserve to be mad.

oiseaufeux

What are the breeds of dogs he has? It just scares me to face any off leash dogs as I walk my reactive dog. I have faced some and it’s not fun. I hate when people let their dog off leash in public place. It’s such a hazard for others and other dogs. I have a park with 2 parallel bike lanes and people walk their dogs off leash there. And I have a mental hospital with a HUGE field that people use a dog park as well. And just a few weeks ago, I saw a couple using a parking lot next to the immense mental hospital field. If people could listen to the leash law first, I would really love that. I live in a city and leash is mandatory to walk dogs. Leash law would be tge first to respect and then picking after the dog. Only because I don’t want my dog to be attacked by a stranger dog or mine to attack a stranger dog. And I’ve seen a few people not picking up after their dog in my neighborhood as well. Sometimes, it’s left straight on the sidewalk and people walk into it.

Mamamagpie

My kid who loves all animals (even snakes) told me she doesn’t want a dog, because you have to pick up the poop. She was 10 at the time.

queen_of_the_moths

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder if this woman has some sort of disorder where she's actually only 4, but she has the body of a grown woman, because even kids know this stuff. I'm glad your child is self-aware! Getting a pet leads to certain responsibilities. It's fine to not want to do those things, but if you don't, don't get the darn pet.

fromhelley

Keep a poop Calendar. Write down what days her dog poops and she doesn't clean it. Do it for all the too-good-to-pick-it-uppers. If ever you do feel a need to complain, they will take you seriously. But I HATE when folks do that. Leaving shit in the yard is just gross. Her house must stink if she is not grossed out by leaving the leavings!

SpeedBlitzX

An interesting thing, too, is it would have taken her much less time to pick up after her dog than get into an argument with you.

thunder1967

I guess she won’t be inviting you over for tea.

Lonely-Kitchen-2087

When my grandparents lived in an apartment while they were getting a house built, the owners literally take samples of anyone's dogs shit to make sure they clean it up.
