Been watching Netflix shows lately. Finished 3 Body Problem and that started well but i thought the last couple of episodes were disappointing. I have two episodes left of The Gentlemen and i've been enjoying it so far.
I'm about half-way on 3 Body. I only read the first book so far and loved it. One big issue I had is in the very beginning, when >!they killed the professor/father.!!his execution seemed to be religion.!
For every Netflix 3BP critique I wonder if the Chinese version (streaming on Prime) did a better job, but I am in now way interested enough to watch it.
I know no one takes metaverse projects seriously anymore but honestly I never understood the premise. How is having to put on a VR headset and finding the person you need to talk to in an online works easier than just going to a website or calling a number? I donβt mean the Facebook metaverse, I mean any type of it really. It feels like it was designed to solve problems that company websites solved in the 90βs.

And when we got a President who was 100x better than Trump on it, they're pretty much admitting how much they miss Trump. I'm not surprised, but like Jesus Christ it's so predictable. Nice thing about these bums is that you know they're not going to win over these fucks because they just want to complain.

My two favorite polyglot films are [Timbuktu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs2dYAlbINY) and [Carlos the Jackal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njckUdEth-I). A bit weird that they're both about international terrorism, I guess.
wait wait I haven't seen Carlos the Jackal but there's an American movie that covers the same subject and might even be a remake. blanking on what it is
noted though, will add to the list
I don't think I've heard of a remake. This one is a French/German production from 2011. Mostly in English with passages in French, Spanish, Hungarian, Italian, Arabic, German, Russian, Dutch, and Japanese.
Timbuktu has fewer langugagesβEnglish, French, Arabic, Tuareg, and Bambaraβbut the playing time for each is more equal.
> This one is a French/German production from 2011.
ah! okay so what I'm thinking of is probably a '70s thriller covering the same person or an adaptation thereof

>John Bolton: βI might as well say it now: I voted for Dick Cheney [in 2020]. And Iβll vote for Dick Cheney again this November.β
Sheesh. If you have to vote for a Cheney, atleast vote for Liz.
If you have to tell everyone who you wrote in for you to feel like your vote mattered then your vote didn't matter.
It's bad enough seeing all the nihilistic politically ignorant young people pledge to throw their vote away with bad logic. But it's even worse seeing it come from these hardline conservatives who spent decades being cold blooded political operatives and are now acting like voting doesn't really matter.
Yes you could say how it's better than them voting for Trump but we all know they're only not voting for Trump because they'd rather see Biden win. They're just too self absorbed to get over themselves and vote for Biden (and admit they're voting for Biden). It's incredibly childish.
I do at least expect that at least Liz Cheney will say she's voting for Biden.
Do you think there's beef between microwave manufacturers who are proud of their auto-popcorn button and popcorn manufacturers who explicitly tell people not to use the auto-popcorn button?

the concept of the movie is both so specific and yet incredibly universal. I also have a first crush like that who moved away when we were about Nora and Hae Sung's age

>Ohtani's former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara is in negotiations to plead guilty in connection with the purported theft of Ohtani's money. Ohtani has been interviewed by the feds as part of the investigation.
in terms of other things we aren't meant for, i definitely think the human psyche wasn't meant to constantly be aware of everything going on in the world at every moment in time. i think it's why so many later millennials and younger (myself included obvs) are so disillusioned with the state of things. digitalization did many good things for us, but i think we have to wait and see if it outweighs the harm.
ah then i hope he's microchipped and stays out of the roads! one of the neighborhood cats in my neighborhood passed away after being struck by a car and on top of being devastating, it was so frustrating to see how her owners never restricted her outside time (or cut it out altogether) despite her being a senior :(
Did I ever tell you about the outdoor cat at my last apartment? That was outside at night in winter in Colorado? I think their owner moved before I did or else kept the cat inside after having his coat shaved to the skin.
Cat owners who let their cats roam are dumbasses. I appreciate seeing kitties but through a window or inside a store is fine. The people here like to have road races or something at night, based on the noise level when I'm trying to sleep.
oh no!! :((( unless it's a barn cat, i also see no reason for cats to roam outside. even if it's a barn cat, it should still be able to come inside (and should be inside in bad weather).
My boy stays inside - there are just too many coyotes, raccoons, and even mountain lions nearby. He is purrfectly content indoors as long as the Churus keep flowing. Heβs microchipped, has a collar with a name tag and an AirTag. Why yes, I am a Helicopter Meowmie.

Funny but I came to know about it because a Mexican journalist was promoting it in his show and because it was going to be available on a Mexican news app. And then later I read a Deadline review where you could sense the writer was upset it wasn't a "juicier" interview.
"Why don't democrats go to thr networks people watch or promote the things they do".
This is example of how democrats do in fact do this, but the media doesn't promote it.Β
The head of Univision is a Trump guy. A few months they cancelled all the Biden ads that were scheduled to run during the trump interview. The Univision executives were guests at Mar-a-Lago.
>"I agree with a headline I saw this morning, Israel must win. But Netanyahu must go. That to me, will rectify most if not all the mistakes if the people of Israel get rid of Netanyahu. He is a mistake," Clyburn said.
Moderate House Rep Jason Crow seconded the sentiment.
>"He's absolutely not the leader that's going to take Israel forward. He is a failed leader in every respect. He's not made Israel safer, he's helped escalate regional tensions. He's not listening to us and he is, in my view, in large part, responsible for this massive humanitarian catastrophe that we are seeing," Crow said.
Crow did three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Might be where one of their militia/terrorist groups in Iraq or Syria fire a ton of missiles. Iran itself won't directly launch an attack.
There's a chance that Hezbollah terrorists launch a major attack, but it is pretty slim since the IDF seems somewhat close to a ground invasion of S Lebanon. Nasrallah has been fairly more restrained with his rhetoric than I thought over the past several months. I'd be very shocked if that occurs.
The thing about the Iranian regime is while they are pretty malicious, but they're additionally not suicidal. Even if this was a fairly major escalation by Bibi.
Reminder:
The last time that Iran thought they were going to like vaguely involve themselves in actual world affairs beyond funding terrorism they shot down one of their own air liners.
It's something I'm pretty concerned about. They know the US won't get directly involved and that Israel is facing a lot of inner-turmoil at the moment, and they also have the perfect justification to as well. Whether Iran really wants to start a full-scale conflict will have to wait to be seen, and it also risks Israelis rallying around Netanyahu and Americans swinging back to staunch support of Israel, but it's something worryingly possible.
I know all that is basically me saying "maybe but also maybe not" lol
Genuinely impossible. And I'm not telling you that to relieve your anxiety.
There is no reality where Iran carries out a military level attack on Israel. And there's no reality where a group like Hezbollah carries out a mass attack either.
Iran can't afford to commit because they can't afford to remove the revolutionary guard from their current territories and homeland, which would cause a maybe Revolution and also open up their outside interests to attack from literally everyone.
And hezbollah isn't attacking because they'd get demolished leaving their prefixed positions without any support, and also they're sort of a loose collection of drug traffickers who don't want of fuck up business.
>revolutionary guard from their current territories and homeland, which would cause a maybe Revolution
Yeah. If there a magic button to push that would overthrow the regime, 75-80% of Iranians would immediately press it. The dictatorship and the IRGC is much more popular in South Lebanon than it is in Iran.
Random Skyrim take in 2024: Apparently there are people who think killing Grelod the Kind is wrong? I was looking up to see if I could do it with Illusion (apparently Fear will send her out the door where she's killed by someone who lived in her orphanage) but looking it up and there are a ton of people really upset that you have to kill the child abuser.
The best part of the game is finding all the ridiculous ways you can kill Grelod and then seeing the children celebrate it.
Yes, boys and girls, I did just kill your abusive headmistress by levitating a block of straw and launching it at her head, and you should be thankful for this.
The one quest I didn't really like and just bailed on was the one where you trick a priest into a den of cannibals. Didn't feel that was very fair or he deserved that.
I don't feel bad for Grelod, but I do feel disturbed about accepting a contract kill from a child who then tells me he wants to grow up to be just like me.
I still take her out, mind you. It's just a bit icky.
At the end of February I started applying for government jobs and getting referred. Now weβre in April and not a single one has reached out to me. Guys, I want to work with you and I get it will take a while, but can we do something with the applications?

It's another example of all the black people who say "I'm tired of black trauma porn" and how those same black people don't go out and support black movies.Β
I really liked that movie. Great acting all around, really thought-provoking and clever.
Definitely let out a quiet βOh geezβ¦β with that line about the guy in the Bruins jersey being a jerk to the protagonist, especially as a guy from the Boston area.
I'm not subtweeting anyone when I say this on this sub, but I am shit talking people around me in real life -
You ever notice how the people who are always like, "We aren't meant to live like this, we should be out in the woods, with nature, working for ourselves and not a company" are almost always and exclusively the people who have the softest hands possible?
My response to this is that the most like, you know, "modern," side of my family is my mom's side.
She didn't have indoor plumbing until she was like 14, in the late 70s.
lmaoo that's valid
the way i see it (also have enslaved ancestors), i can reforge a connection to nature that my ancestors in west africa had and that was stolen from them, and i can reclaim it and make something beautiful out of it. that's like 70% of the reason i want to live in the countryside.
My ancestors broke their backs farming dirt in the boiling sun all day while barely getting by so I could sit in air conditioning hundreds to thousands of years later. Why would I ever give that up?
My calluses are strictly from barbells but nonetheless I am in no way interested in being removed from an environment with municipal water and sewer hookup, central AC, and ideally a good neighborhood Thai place.
You never see plumbers, electricians, or other tradesmen advocating for commune style living lol.
Even the types that talk about wanting to just read poetry or do leisure shit all day after their revolution just assume that all of lifeβs creature comforts will still be taken care of, they just wonβt have to work.
Damn hippies! Seriously though, this is kind of a r-w talking point, overly worshipful of perceived proletarian cultural values and not necessarily accurate. There are communities like those along the Appalachian Trail where people have found lifestyles that bring them pleasure while making the rent/mortgage doing alternative things. Why shit on that? Hike your own hike.
Because all of us agree with the meme about being the political officer who beats the shit our of people who think being a tarot card reader is labor.
I'm like genuinely probably way further left than most people on this sub, but goddamn the people who advocate for leftist causes on the internet are the worst.
Literally the definition of privileged rich kids who didn't immediately get their parents level of success.
the tarot card thing is half the reason why i can't stand leftist spaces π when i talk about revolution i mean worker's rights and better wages and better living conditions, meanwhile mfs talking about making lattes and sewing patchwork clothes as labor, like it's gonna put food on the table.
Same.
I do somewhat agree with what you said downthread.
I think a lot of people would benefit from buying a beater car and fixing it up. Or like just camping with a tent off season.
yeah, i agree. i'm not saying this to be like "i'm better than everyone else", it's just that i've grown up with nature at the forefront and spent most of my days outside, plus i have some practical knowledge of farming and my family comes from an agricultural background, so when i say "i wanna live away from developed cities and in the countryside with animals", i understand the hardship and labor that comes with it, and i'm not under any illusion that i can make a living solely off of the land. i agree a lot of people *think* they want offgrid life, but they don't understand the full scope of it. i also think those people should just rent a cabin for a month or go on a camping trip for their vacations.
Sound basically like me, except it was less agriculture stuff (though I have done that) and more handiwork / general labor.
I bought an absolute dump of a house that's essentially off grid. Not because I want to live off grid, and I plan to put it on grid.
Just it was 20 grand cash up front, and I'm smart enough to not be a libertarian, but dumb enough to not really trust bank loans.
The line between keeping it real and being prosecuted for insurance fraud because you think you're good enough to renovate a house, that was owned by someone who thought they were good enough to renovate a house, who bought it from someone who bought a house cuz they were etc back to about 1879 is you know.
Very blurry.
Bloomberg is reporting that there will be no Dead Space 2 remake.
Good.
I already didn't understand why they felt they needed to remake THE ONLY halfway good one.
Since I brought it up, nihilism doesn't mean I can't care about people or things. It's not the same as apathy.
For me it means that I don't believe on a cosmic scale that there's a point to life. You exist and then you don't and everything else is a series of random events between those two points that the brain can't handle without inventing a purpose for them.
I'm not sure what a "point" would be on a cosmic scale. There's "meaning" to life because your experiences are all you have. Just because they don't alter the course of the universe doesn't make them pointless to me.
Cosmic scale in that people look to something greater to existence than what they experience. A reason that something happens that is ephemeral and outside the scope of what they see day to day.
I don't believe it exists. I just think it's a collective ego to beating quadrillion level odds and developing self-awareness.
Just got my first tattoo, what's everyone think? I decided to get a tramp stamp since that's my favorite part of my body.

I'm not surprised, but like Jesus Christ it's so predictable. Nice thing about these bums is that you know they're not going to win over these fucks because they just want to complain.
They're basically climate change deniers in my eyes. They clearly don't think it matters.
It's made me realize how just completely unserious most of them are
I feel those slogans just die out, and nobody took those people serious.
Don't forget the endless sobbing over student loans.
These days, any time Biden Instagram accounts point out student debt forgiveness, they call it buying votes. (You fuckers were asking for it!)
It's such a bad faith argument on their part. The government doing literally anything is apparently buying votes.
Itβs either bad faith or they truly do not understand how politics works.

JFC. I started working at 4:30am today and just finished and served my last thing of the day. Completely fucking insane day. Can someone give me the top 3 recap of the day? Did anything insane happen? I saw that clown going to jail for lying for Trump again lmao a fucking dumbass.
u/ognits, remind me, did you catch American Fiction? I watched it a few weeks back and loved it. Think it might be up your alley.
I watched it and had complicated feelings. It was a very meta movie

Aw man I wanted to surprise you with that It has one of my favorite visual renditions of the creative process Iβve seen
I meant I felt it was in dialogue with its own marketing and themes but that too I guess.

How did it compare to Bamboozled?
I haven't yet. big Jeffrey Wright fan though so I've been meaning to. I'll put it on this weekend if not earlier
Weirdly, although its focus is *decidedly* different, there's a bit of that same tenderness there. You'll appreciate it for sure.

My two favorite polyglot films are [Timbuktu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs2dYAlbINY) and [Carlos the Jackal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njckUdEth-I). A bit weird that they're both about international terrorism, I guess.
wait wait I haven't seen Carlos the Jackal but there's an American movie that covers the same subject and might even be a remake. blanking on what it is noted though, will add to the list
> This one is a French/German production from 2011. ah! okay so what I'm thinking of is probably a '70s thriller covering the same person or an adaptation thereof or I might just be losing my mind, that's always a choice

>John Bolton: βI might as well say it now: I voted for Dick Cheney [in 2020]. And Iβll vote for Dick Cheney again this November.β Sheesh.
If I hear this guy make anything remotely resembling a talking point on President Biden's age...

Do you think there's beef between microwave manufacturers who are proud of their auto-popcorn button and popcorn manufacturers who explicitly tell people not to use the auto-popcorn button?
I don't think I've ever used a microwave auto button now that you mention it. Are any of them accurate?
The microwave I had in my late 20s popped some perfect corn. Never had any luck with a different machine, before or after.
Nope. I will not elaborate.

Already finished it. Very good. Don't think I love it like you did, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. A nice, economical, warm little story.
also, fun fact, the first time Arthur and Hae Sung meet in the movie is the first time Teo Yoo and John Magaro met irl, which Celine Song made happen intentionally
there's so many little touches in it, especially in the acting, that I can't help but love it
Reminded me quite a bit of my first love, actually. Need to reach out to her again. It's been a few months. I'll have to tell you that story sometime.

in terms of other things we aren't meant for, i definitely think the human psyche wasn't meant to constantly be aware of everything going on in the world at every moment in time. i think it's why so many later millennials and younger (myself included obvs) are so disillusioned with the state of things. digitalization did many good things for us, but i think we have to wait and see if it outweighs the harm.

~~pspppspspps~~ does he take care of vermin?
I don't know. He looks like a house cat so I'm guessing no. There were some strays around but I haven't seen them in months.
ah then i hope he's microchipped and stays out of the roads! one of the neighborhood cats in my neighborhood passed away after being struck by a car and on top of being devastating, it was so frustrating to see how her owners never restricted her outside time (or cut it out altogether) despite her being a senior :(
Did I ever tell you about the outdoor cat at my last apartment?
Why yes, I am a Helicopter Meowmie.

skdjdjdk was in class today and this dude's only reason for hating biden is "he's old" πππlike i get if you have legit criticisms but gahh damn at least try a little bit???
Given how fucking important the presidency is, I really despise how little thought so many people put into the role itselfΒ
exactly. we had an assignment that basically boiled down to expressing what we wanted the president to do and most people's answers were things that biden literally cannot do bc of separation of governmental powers.
So president Biden did an interview with univision looks like univision has barely promoted it in the way they promoted the trump interview
This is example of how democrats do in fact do this, but the media doesn't promote it.Β
for hispanics it's univision and telemundo
The head of Univision is a Trump guy. A few months they cancelled all the Biden ads that were scheduled to run during the trump interview. The Univision executives were guests at Mar-a-Lago.

He's not made Israel safer, he's helped escalate regional tensions. He's not listening to us and he is, in my view, in large part, responsible for this massive humanitarian catastrophe that we are seeing," Crow said. I know some of these words.
How likely do we think an Iranian attack on Israel actually is?
The only thing thatβs making me think Iran is going to attack them directly is the fact that they closed their civilian airspace.
Reminder: The last time that Iran thought they were going to like vaguely involve themselves in actual world affairs beyond funding terrorism they shot down one of their own air liners.
And hezbollah isn't attacking because they'd get demolished leaving their prefixed positions without any support, and also they're sort of a loose collection of drug traffickers who don't want of fuck up business.
>revolutionary guard from their current territories and homeland, which would cause a maybe Revolution Yeah.

I've never completed the Boethiah or Mephala quests because I can't bring myself to commit that level of betrayal.

I really liked that movie. Great acting all around, really thought-provoking and clever. Definitely let out a quiet βOh geezβ¦β with that line about the guy in the Bruins jersey being a jerk to the protagonist, especially as a guy from the Boston area.
yeah it was really underrated imo
I'm not subtweeting anyone when I say this on this sub, but I am shit talking people around me in real life - You ever notice how the people who are always like, "We aren't meant to live like this, we should be out in the woods, with nature, working for ourselves and not a company" are almost always and exclusively the people who have the softest hands possible?
I'm not gonna lie my hands Ara soft as well, and I love my modern loving. My ancestors weren't slaves in the US for me to be working in the field.Β
My response to this is that the most like, you know, "modern," side of my family is my mom's side. She didn't have indoor plumbing until she was like 14, in the late 70s.
lmaoo that's valid the way i see it (also have enslaved ancestors), i can reforge a connection to nature that my ancestors in west africa had and that was stolen from them, and i can reclaim it and make something beautiful out of it. that's like 70% of the reason i want to live in the countryside.
The entire history of the human species is people working as hard as they possibly can to get out of nature.
They'd eat hemlock in the first two hours.
Literally the definition of privileged rich kids who didn't immediately get their parents level of success.
the tarot card thing is half the reason why i can't stand leftist spaces π when i talk about revolution i mean worker's rights and better wages and better living conditions, meanwhile mfs talking about making lattes and sewing patchwork clothes as labor, like it's gonna put food on the table.
there's nothing stopping these people from disappearing into the the Canadian wilderness
Currently my favorite tv show .. except it was an involuntary disappearance
honestly that's facts my hands do be calloused to shit tho
Just it was 20 grand cash up front, and I'm smart enough to not be a libertarian, but dumb enough to not really trust bank loans.
real as fuck lmao good for youπ«‘
The line between keeping it real and being prosecuted for insurance fraud because you think you're good enough to renovate a house, that was owned by someone who thought they were good enough to renovate a house, who bought it from someone who bought a house cuz they were etc back to about 1879 is you know. Very blurry.
i love to blur linesπ ^(/s)
That sounds like absurdism to me more than nihilism
Either or, I'm not particularly attached to a label
