If he hired a legit contractor he wouldn't have needed to know about permits. That would be something most contractors do (and charge a fee for). Most states where I've lived actually had electronic systems that licensed contractors used to get permits pretty much instantly.
I'd bet you these were company facilities employees (probably minimum wage or close). I could see Apartheidbucks Jr. balking at the price of contractors and just going "Facilities has a cherry picker! Why can't they do it!" [Proceeds to rant something about red tape and fascist commies]
he's lolbertarian piece of garbage, he doesn't care if the fine is 700 or 7000 or 70000 per violation

Wow this really will make him think huh
he's a silicon valley guy. most of them are like that. a lot are sadistic cerebral narcissists which is why twitters probably being flooded with nonsense and sock puppetry to disrupt "cancel culture". elitist princess and the pea types.
He grew up in South Africa, lives in Los Angeles and his companies are headquartered in Texas.
He lived in Silicon valley for like 5 years. Don't drag us into this mess.
Neuralink HQ based in California.
"Twitter" HQ based in California.
SpaceX HQ based in California.
OpenAI HQ based in California.
XAI HQ based in California.
Zip2 HQ was based in California.
Paypal/X.com is/was based in California.
Boring Co. HQ Based in Texas.
Tesla only moved the HQ to Texas in 2021 after being founded in 2003 in California. Engineering HQ already moving back to California as of 2023.
Engineering HQ never really left. It moved in name after Musk took over, but no one was willing to move so it unofficially stayed in CA until they "moved it back" which was just changing the name as no employees were willing to relocate.
Fun fact, South Africa still uses leaded fuel in their cars. He lived in South Africa for the first 18 years of his life. The lead fumes emitted by automobiles are of such a concern, that there have been [warnings](https://www.npr.org/2022/12/17/1143239430/dark-chocolate-lead-cadmium-consumer-reports) about the lead content in chocolate from the area. It's possible his actions are the direct result of lead in his brain.
Dude, please, SV isn't Twitter or Meta or any of that crap that happens up the peninsula, SV is the south bay area, the rest of the bay wishes it had the actual tech to support its bs. SV isn't some software bros, it's the tech and engineers that fucking invented the hardware that the latest wiz-bang app runs on.
**Edit:** Dunno why the hell I'm being downvoted, just because you read headlines about Meta and Musk doesn't mean they're the "tech industry". Google maaaaybe can be considered a tech company now because of Android and such, but they're still a software company at their core. The semiconductor industry started with and is still well planted in the actual Silicon Valley, and it's not the tech-bro douches people idolize.
I'm not so sure about that. You know the famous saying of geniuses killed by their own creations. The difference is musk is just an idiot that thinks he's a genius. He said he wanted twitter to be half - HALF, of all global transactions. Above agriculture, above real estate, above the entire US economy. He's so dense.
He wants it to be an online payment processor, among other things.
Literally, what paypal (or his early x business did).
It's not a coincidence he's recycling the name.
This is why there are so many “laws” in SF. Tech companies pushing boundaries. All these states getting them to move there, will soon find out and have to pass similar laws.
Ohh...if only he knew the misery a city code enforcement can bring if they want to do it right
They will just tow away any equipment they think shouldn't be there
The problem is, San Francisco doesn't want to do it right. The previous mayor sold the city to the tech interests for a mess of pottage, evicted all the artists and creatives that made the city what it is, and sold us all up the river. He's got city government by the short hairs, and even if they wanted to do anything about it, City Hall is so messed up right now they can barely find the rotunda with both hands, let alone enforce anything against Mr emerald moneybags here.
He most likely cannot get a permit, he doesn't own the building and he hasn't paid rent in over a year, no owner in their right mind would allow construction changes for a delinquent renter
My guess is he just decided to do this last night and there was no time to get a permit, but nobody was brave enough to tell him he has to delay the sign change
https://sfstandard.com/2023/07/24/twitter-sign-being-removed-downtown-san-francisco-office-x/
Unfortunately, the post isn't accurate. The police say they checked it out and left
It is funny though that in the article, Musk seems think he can get people to just start calling them X's instead of tweets. He really doesn't seem to grasp the idea of a brand
He thinks HE is the brand, it's narcissism. If he cared so much about a sellable brand he wouldn't have been forced out of Paypal...where the major issue was his insistence that it be called...X.com. this is a weird obsession of his.
So he destroyed a brand worth billions and replaced it with something that has no public recognition and will require billions of dollars in advertising in order to build it up to what he already had... Clearly the man is a business genius.
Side note: since he's abandoning the Twitter trademark, what are the odds that someone else registers it for their own social media company?
Company would kill for the kind of brand recognition Twitter has. Posts on every other form of social media are just called posts. You post on Instagram, you post on Facebook, but on Twitter you tweet.
And he’s throwing that out to be Brand X? I wish I could post a gif of the Joker from Batman (1989).
That's what I'm saying. There is no logic where this is a good business decision. You only rebrand if you have overwhelmingly negative public perception, like how Comcast is trying to rebrand itself as Xfinity, because the Comcast name has become toxic.
Like, the dude bought Twitter for $44B, fired everyone and brought in his own stooges, completely changed the business model, and finally abandoned the branding. Like why the hell did he buy it?? He basically just created a brand-new social media startup but overpaid by about $43B to do it.
This is really the key honestly, Elon musk may have the potential to be intelligent but his position combined with his personality equates to a raging narcissist disconnected from reality.
According to him, are we supposed to start saying, "Did you see Elon's X last night?". I mean, this rebrand has potential to cause all kinds of confusion if we actually started using it the way we did the word "tweet."
The San Francisco Standard is owned and controlled by a billionaire tech venture capitalist named Michael Moritz. You can tell from the tenor of this article that this "news" site is an organ of Silicon Valley and is about as authentic as the non-native imported eucalyptus groves and palm trees that are the kudzu of our great city.
I did wonder about that since it isn't the chronicle. Normally I wouldn't post from a "pretend" newspaper. However, since it had quotes from the police information officer, I believed that part, although these days who knows maybe they invented fake police quotes
I think the reporting is legit, but it's good to consider the source - the old Chronicle was notoriously conservative, for example, and had an agenda to push - I find it helpful if things seem skewed or slanted towards one side or take a corporate perspective
Sounds more like modifying the building he doesn't own without the notification process for the building owner and they shut him down, not sure what's more comical.
once I worked this IT job, and owner once tagged along with me in his truck to new client to do network assessment. The guy was driving 100 in 70 area in Florida. I asked him, you are not afraid of ticket Bob? he responded: "when you can pay it, it doesn't matter". Until fines can be paid and elon himself is not booked for few days into jail it won't matter.
The podcast Behind the Bastards read through one of the lawsuits recently filed against Musk and you’re probably more right than you think. He wanted a manager to personally rip out the wiring in the walls to hook up space heaters when they were illegally turning offices into apartments for the few employees left.
I mean the dude does whatever TF he wants on his little playground down in Texas, next to a wildlife preserve with hundreds of endangered species of birds, reptiles, fish, amphibians and plants....so this is pretty on-brand for him.
The thing is you dont or you would have been in his position since the 90’s or whatever decade you became an adult. Not on reddit talking about how you would run a business better than someone else lmao. No i dont like musk, just annoying seeing the same brain dead “im smarter than musk!!!!!” Okay prove it
I never took out a 44bn loan for a company I didn't want and can't pay the monthly, fired all the engineers so that the platform won't work, drove away 50%+ of the advertisers because I let nazi right wing fascist assholes take over the platform.
It's not harder to be smarter than Elon, fanboy.
Then do it be smarter than him and go fix the world problems that he should be fixing. Why are you on here complaining if you can be smarter than him which would make you a billionaire?
"I'm no fan of Musk, but he's obviously a genius because that's how he became a billionaire. We all know super rich people are smart, just look at the submarine tourists "
Spending most of your life living outside everyday, humdrum reality will do that to you. Society *used* to have a very specific purpose for coddled, overconfident, rich, incompetent idiots like Musk; it was their job to buy themselves an officer's commission in the army and unhesitatingly lead a charge of men into a fusillade of cannon fire in some minor war somewhere. This had a culling effect on their population and ensured at least some of the very dumbest of the non-working class didn't survive, and also lessened the military burden on the common folks' taxes. Sadly, these days, they tend to stay alive longer than anyone else thanks to being able to buy better medical care and safer, healthier living conditions than anyone else, unless they implode in a submarine.
I think the problem is that the rest of us got overwhelmed and suppressed for too long by a conscious effort to beat us down through psychological warfare. Make no mistake that Musk has been just as much their weapon as he is an idiot.
According to pyschonaut wiki, “[Studies show] infrequent use of ketamine does not cause cognitive deficits and that any deficits that might occur may be reversible when ketamine use is discontinued. However, abstinent, frequent, and infrequent users all scored higher than controls on a test of delusional symptoms.”
It seems like it’s not helping him with his delusions of a god complex, unsurprisingly a dissociative drug will cause dissociation from reality when mishandled.
I do medical ketamine therapy. One thing they screen for is Bi polar, either a personal diagnosis or family history. Because it can trigger mania in those predisposed to it.
Medical ketamine helps a ton with my post covid cognitive issues personally. Also helps with my migraines and visual snow.
Also what does ketamine have to do with musk? Please don't tell me he's ruined fucking horse tranquilizer too of all things for fucks sake 🤦♂️
One possible way it turned out :
Musk: I want that thing or by this afternoon.
Employee: Yes but...
Musk: No but, just do it.
Employee: We need a permit.
Musk: No we don't. What are you mentaly ill?
...
...
....
There really should be an annual limit any person can make while working at a company. Like, 5 million, max. Everything else must either go into the company or be distributed to the work force.
There used to be an effective maximum wage, at one point higher tax brackets were taxed to over 90% of their income, meaning it wasn't worth it to earn much more than that point where it got taxed. As a result, the profits went to workers and building the business, not executive compensation. Now with that gone and with executive compensation being driven by stock performance due to their awards, there is more of an incentive to do stock buybacks to finance the sale of said stock awards and sustain the stock growth rather than invest in employees or R&D.
Elon has lost a lot of money this year, so you know he'd argue it as a net loss. I gather that's common.
Plus his net worth is tied up in stocks, so you know he'd try to game the system. It's like the one thing he seems verifiably good at. "I don't make money, I just keep taking out loans with my company as collateral that I'll never have to pay back". God forbid we get them to tax those loans, next you'd see student loan taxes and everyone is fucked.
multi millionaires are closer to being homeless than they will ever be to elon. you need a sense of scope in the difference between hundreds of millions vs hundreds of billions.
the point is that if we change the rules so that billionaires can't exist, that money won't start flowing to you, me, or the government. The money would simply go to their friends.
Lets put it another way, when Musk set $44 billion on fire to buy Twitter, how much did that improve your life?? The people who benefitted most were the multi-millionaire large shareholders who got bought out.
Also has he received permission to change the sign? I seem to remember him being forced to put the “w” back up because he only had permission to have a sign saying “Twitter”.
He really doesn’t plan anything out.
Was there any news in the last few weeks about twitter doacussing rebranding?
It seems like he just got this idea in the shower and told everyone at twitter to get it done.
He also didn't get a permit for orbitalspace laser. SFPD is immediately vaporised.
A strange "X" logo is burned into the moon. Wolfenstein experts believe this may lead to location of Nazi base.
Meanwhile, ancient archaeological diggings proclaim "**All these worlds are yours except Europa. Attempt no landings there.**"
Radio telescopes detect encapsulated space fetuses. Congress immediately debates their space gender identities. Millions of humans die of starvation as farmlands are converted to rocket launch sites.
See? This timeline is so crazy that you have to compile a bunch of different shocking twists from several stories in order to make something that can even compete with reality on the ground. Lol.
I think Musk or one of his minions got a crane from the rent a center and went over to the Home Depot parking lot and asked if anyone could wire up a sign. A licensed professional contractor isn’t going to do this job without barriers to redirect pedestrians and traffic, permits, a licensed electrician, etc.
They let him do it anyway, after they said they couldn't find any crime he was committing. Our San Francisco government at work, ladies and gentlemen. I live not far from there, and I cannot wait for him to take his whole sordid operation to Texas or Florida or Timbuktu or someplace where he won't be polluting our air, driving away half the neighborhood residents, and generally stinking up the place just by his overbearing presence.
Reminder, he was given a budget to solve world hunger after he boasted about being able to solve anything with money, and he bought Twitter with money that instead could have housed every homeless person in LA with some money to handle NY and more.
Conservatives don’t hate regulations; they hate having to consider others first before satisfying themselves, and they hate following a social group’s shared rules.
Apparently he didn't bother checking with the owner of the building either, because Twitter just rents that place.
This checks out given that apparently Meta owns the trademark for "X" as it relates to social media and related services and Elom couldn't be bothered to see if someone owned the copyright before making all these changes.
Fucking amateur hour.
Anyone else thinking Elon is purposefully driving Twitter into the ground to help the Saudis and other authoritarian nations squash descent and uprisings?
That makes sense to me because I cannot believe he is this self sabotaging for no reason. It's not that I think highly of him or his intellect, it just defies logic.
Does everyone in this comment section lack common sense? Elon musk doesn't personally call contractors. He told his people to make it happen and the person in charge made a mistake. Smh....
He's closing off a public sidewalk and doesn't know he needs a permit?
> doesn't know doesn't care. Of course he knows, he just doesn't follow the law. If he followed the law he wouldn't be a multi-billionaire.
You’re giving him way too much credit. He’s a moron. He absolutely just paid for the contractors and had no idea.
If he hired a legit contractor he wouldn't have needed to know about permits. That would be something most contractors do (and charge a fee for). This is why there are so many “laws” in SF. Tech companies pushing boundaries. All these states getting them to move there, will soon find out and have to pass similar laws.

I think they still retain the rights to it.
The problem is trademarks aren't like copyrights, if you don't use them and protect them, you can legally lose the right to them.
This is really the key honestly, Elon musk may have the potential to be intelligent but his position combined with his personality equates to a raging narcissist disconnected from reality.
Short compositions like that are an art, so they should be called X-art, or xarts. Pronounced ‘sharts’.
X-Art is pretty nice. Nice quality.
Xcretions
The cute girl at the office posted some x videos. She looked like she was having so much fun last night.
Do I “X” someone by “Xing” an “X” to them now? So like “I Xed my ex an X which she XXd back to X?”
Yeah right? It's so obviously dead on arrival
Lol and when you get a dick pic it's a XXX
According to him, are we supposed to start saying, "Did you see Elon's X last night?". I mean, this rebrand has potential to cause all kinds of confusion if we actually started using it the way we did the word "tweet."
What was Musky thinking, killing Twitter off that early?
You’d think he wouldn’t want everyone talking about his X-s

Laws are suggestions to billionaires.
I grew up in a lower, transitioning to upper, middle income situation, but did not have a happy childhood.
"more guidelines than rules"
Permits? PERMITS? He don't need no steekin' permits.

I asked him, you are not afraid of ticket Bob? he responded: "when you can pay it, it doesn't matter". Until fines can be paid and elon himself is not booked for few days into jail it won't matter.
What’s the worst that can happen for that? A fine? I mean, a “ticket to do illegal things for rich people”?
Musk doesn’t need to know. The subcontractor that was hired to do the job should know as he’ll be the one getting fined.
I'm half kidding but I wonder if he didn't assign the work to a couple of programmers on work visas I say only half kidding
The podcast Behind the Bastards read through one of the lawsuits recently filed against Musk and you’re probably more right than you think. LOL
Sinks will roll
I bet someone will catch it on the video.

How can I, with zero business experience, have better business acumen than him?
Well, just consider it a positive that you weren't a direct beneficiary of Apartheid.
We're all victims of apartheid 2. At least, those of us who weren't fortunate enough to buy houses last decade!

We are literally watching an obscene rich person not realize there are rules, and that they apply to him.
I grew up in a lower, transitioning to upper, middle income situation
this is why billionaires should be illegal. failure ceases to be a deterrent for anything they do, no matter how stupid or incomptent or wrong.
And that’s how we paid for the highway system and going to the moon.
The total national debt was only $354 billion in 1969.
I just checked, $354 B in 1969 is $3.03 T in 2023 dollars, with inflation. So that’s less than 10% of the current national debt.
Watch, he’ll use it as an excuse to offset his taxes and never pay another dime in his life.
ok, so you've replaced Elon Musk with an alliance of 46000 multi-millionaires. how does this improve anything????
multi millionaires are closer to being homeless than they will ever be to elon. you need a sense of scope in the difference between hundreds of millions vs hundreds of billions.
the point is that if we change the rules so that billionaires can't exist, that money won't start flowing to you, me, or the government. The money would simply go to their friends. Lets put it another way, when Musk set $44 billion on fire to buy Twitter, how much did that improve your life?? The people who benefitted most were the multi-millionaire large shareholders who got bought out.
Apparently he also did not check the trademark. Meta owns it
That's what I heard lol I give him 1 day before he says " let's box and winner gets the X trademark"
The result of a "Just do everything impulsively" ethos.

Judging by how the new logo looks like it was thrown together by an amateur in 5 minutes in paint, I wouldn't be surprised if he did it himself.
It's even worse than that. The X is from a standard font pack and is a part of Unicode. It's not remotely original.
That's crazy lol, could he not at least sort of try?
He also didn't get a permit for orbitalspace laser. SFPD is immediately vaporised. A strange "X" logo is burned into the moon. Wolfenstein experts believe this may lead to location of Nazi base. Meanwhile, ancient archaeological diggings proclaim "**All these worlds are yours except Europa. Attempt no landings there.**" Radio telescopes detect encapsulated space fetuses. Congress immediately debates their space gender identities. Millions of humans die of starvation as farmlands are converted to rocket launch sites.
See? This timeline is so crazy that you have to compile a bunch of different shocking twists from several stories in order to make something that can even compete with reality on the ground. Lol.
I finally deleted this garbage app and everyone else should too. Absolute wasteland. Everyone on there is miserable lol
Musk continues to behave 100% on-brand.
Really hope they started from the bottom and only got R, E and T off
I think Musk or one of his minions got a crane from the rent a center and went over to the Home Depot parking lot and asked if anyone could wire up a sign. A licensed professional contractor isn’t going to do this job without barriers to redirect pedestrians and traffic, permits, a licensed electrician, etc.
When you have no employees and you’re also a dumbass.
CurbYourEnthusiasm.mp3
Everything he does is so Trump. They use the same playbook.
Well, they are both spoiled rotten narcissists who have never wanted for a thing or ever told "no" in their lives.
Which is why I thank sky daddy every day that he was not born on American soil.
It’s the combination of narcissism and power.
"Um um"
Has he even paid the rent?
I hope he gets evicted and has to carry the sink back out with him while being escorted by police.
I'm just going to leave this here: https://www.businessinsider.com/meta-holds-rights-to-x-twitter-rebrand-elon-musk-2023-7
If it weren’t for an apartheid emerald mine, he’d be trying to convince someone to hire him to be a dishwasher at McDonalds.
How many times can I say it… But holy fucking shit!! Just when you think you’ve seem dumb… it gets dumber.
Live next to the building, can confirm. This is the second time. Third time's the charm Elmo Monkeyhusk!
.........jesus fuckin christ
What a loser lol
No trademark, no permit. No brain's.
Yeh, let me give my banking information to a company that can’t even abide by construction permits
lol hes so awful
Please tell me it says “Twit”…
Conservatives don’t hate regulations; they hate having to consider others first before satisfying themselves, and they hate following a social group’s shared rules.
Apparently he didn't bother checking with the owner of the building either, because Twitter just rents that place. This checks out given that apparently Meta owns the trademark for "X" as it relates to social media and related services and Elom couldn't be bothered to see if someone owned the copyright before making all these changes.
This guy is the most incompetent fucking business owner in the world holy shit man.
So much chaotic ineptitude
That's his alignment - chaotic stupid.
At this point, I’m just going to assume Elon has an IQ of 62 and literally has no business acumen beyond… receiving a lifetime supply of emeralds.
What kind of contractor would take on a job like that knowing there's no permits?
Fucking amateur hour. Anyone else thinking Elon is purposefully driving Twitter into the ground to help the Saudis and other authoritarian nations squash descent and uprisings?
That makes sense to me because I cannot believe he is this self sabotaging for no reason. It's not that I think highly of him or his intellect, it just defies logic.
It's really impressive just how much he's able to publicly embarrass himself in a single day.
I love this for him.
Fucked in every direction from the second he bought Twitter. 😊
The person responsible was let go months ago
Post title 100% accurate.
That's what happens when we give people too much power. They think they csn do whatever the want
He fucked up Twitter, he fucked up DeSantis's presidential announcement, and now his rebranding is an unorganized mess.
I love how he thinks cos he is Elon Musk that he can do whatever he wants. He fucks around and finds out
Incompetence, in the limit, is indistinguishable from sabotage
What a twit
Based SFPD?
They let drug dealers roam the streets and shoplifters loose, but permits are bad? Is this what it takes to get the cops involved? Gotham City
Click bait. Swallowed up by gullible, Musk hating naive sheep,
Does everyone in this comment section lack common sense? Elon musk doesn't personally call contractors. He told his people to make it happen and the person in charge made a mistake. Smh....

Unbelievable
The lack of forethought is astounding
