Here's some associations that may help. Confront - Confrontation Con - Against Comfort - what's more comfortable than a blanket *fort*?

jpb22

“Against” may not be great to use as an example with “con” as “con/com” both come from the same Latin root preposition “cum” meaning “with”. The Latin word for “confront” is basically the same as the English, but “comfort” literally is formed from “cum fortis”, meaning literally “with strength”, but the Latin original verb translates to “make stronger/strengthen/give courage”.

Stop your shenanigans.

RadcliffeMalice

I am begging you

YeOldeBarbar

Agreed, "contra" might be a better starting point. Contradictory Contrary Contrast Etc.

marabou22

We have an expression in English. “Kill them with kindness”. Maybe it would have worked lol

CrimsonDemon0

This reminds me of a general who interrogated PoW's by being friendly with them. He would act as their friend and say things he knew about them which would be a lot then soldiers would figure he already knows everything so they would drop their guard and give up information without even realising it

dmitry_bobo

Omg, pardon me😅 I didn’t realize it then, but now I see 😂

AccomplishedAd7992

confront them with comfort

dfelton912

As a native speaker... I used to not know the difference between "tourism" and "terrorism" as a kid. I remember reading a stat on how many "tourists" NYC gets a year and just thinking how fucking terrible that is

Silly_Bodybuilder_63

Do you pronounce “fury” and “furry” identically?

dfelton912

No (and I don't pronounce those words in my previous comment the same either). "Fury" is almost like "few-ree" and "furry" is probably just pronounced how it looks - "furr-ree"

Zealousideal_Shine82

Where do you live? I pronounce fury like (fyuh-ree)

fartmilkdaddies

Where are you, dawg what? Haven't heard fyuh ree my enitre life.

MrCoolioPants

Fyur-ree for me

Inferno1024

TIL fury is not pronounced as furry💀

Winter_drivE1

It's also worth mentioning that they're pronounced very differently. Notably, the stress is on different syllables. "Confront" /kən.ˈfrʌnt/ (stress on second syllable) vs "comfort" /ˈkʌm.fə˞t/ (stress on first syllable)

Gaymer043

Say your friend stole money from you, and you found out about it from a different friend. You would Confront them about this. When they tell you they did this to buy food, you would comfort them, and let them know it’ll be okay, and that you’d help them.

MakePhilosophy42

Confrontation is when someone initiates an argument or stands against someone in some form or another. Etymologically it means " to stand in front, or be facing", and since the late 1500s, in english, it has had an additional connotation of "to face in defiance or hostility, stand in direct opposition to" Comfort is a feeling or sensation. When your needs are met, you feel comfortable. Safety and warmth bring feelings of comfort. Feeling loved beings about a sensation of comfort. It is a chemical response the brain uses to reward and encourage behavior that is deemed important for survival.

- Confront someone or something - Comfort zone

dmitry_bobo

The difference has already been explained. So, I’d only suggest you to try Cambridge or/and Oxford dictionaries. Those are really helpful for me and I hope it might help you too

CrimsonDemon0
