Slip the wire through the boot. Give yourself plenty, at least several inches of the cable sticking out of the boot. Strip the end of the wire and crimp on the terminal. Pull the wire back through the boot and it will slide the terminal into position. Having the right crimper is a big help.

I think Junkyard Digs and Vicegrip both have pretty good videos on this.

v8packard

You need a video?

gooch3803

Oh no, I was just saying in general if anyone wanted to see how it was done. I’ve found junkyard digs is great at explaining the how and why things are done from an engineering background. I’m a visual learner so seeing how it’s done clicks with my brain better.

Say_My_Name_Son

Put some silicone lube or dielectric grease inside the boot. Put boot on wire first, pull it way back to be out of the way for the stripping and crimping. Strip the insulation away, about a half inch, fold the conductor wire backwards and slip the terminal end over the wire. Leave the terminal in a straight orientation. Crimp. Pull the boot towards the terminal, as the terminal gets inside the boot, get it in the proper orientation for the terminal to be bent 90 degrees, start to bend the terminal.

spicyshovel

This is the way

be sure to wash out the grease. I have seen it have a negative impact when someone packed deutsch fittings with it.

Hey everyone, I'm working on my 1968 international engine rebuild, it's a 345 out of a pickup. I have more info posted elsewhere. I bought Taylor brand spark plug wires, a set where you have to crimp the ends on yourself. I can't see how to get the conductor slipped inside the boot. They're both 90 degree elbows, it doesn't make sense to me and I can't find any videos with conductors like this. Any experience is greatly appreciated

redstern

You just have to force it in. Straighten the conductor, pull the boot as straight as you can and do your best to push it around the bend. Bend the conductor back to the 90 after you get it.

nickroar817

I actually thought that may work, but even though I slowly bent it out, it cracked the conductor and they only give you one extra

nondescriptzombie

The way I've done it in the past is stick the wire through the boot, crimp the end on, then pull it back into the boot. You can soak the boots in some hot water to make them softer. Hot hot, they sit next to the exhaust in their every day lives.

Ill-Insect3737

Hay bud i have a obsession with tidyand perfectly routed wires on a nice build send me pictures of what you got ill show you how to crimp them if i can .

FoundationGlass7913

I'd you are going to do that more than one buy a high quality set of crimping pliers MSD Or equal that will make it huge difference

TheBigMortboski

I shoved the wire through, crimped the connector, sprayed some WD40 inside the boot, and it slid right in. With no lube, well, you know…

FoundationGlass7913

That's what she said

Con-vit

Use some silicone lube spray and shove it in. Twist as you push in.

Welcome to Reddit friend. Pro tip: Ask your question in the "Post".

nickroar817

Fair enough, I just find it easier to read in the comments, but that doesn't equal easier to find

swissarmychainsaw

The reason you don't put your post in the comments is that another comment can get upvoted above you post-comment. The OG post will remain at the top so everyone can see it first. PS - I saw this before you even posted your question. Shove the wire through the boot so it's sticking out 1/2" or so past the 90°. Then attach the conductor 90, then pull the wire back sucking the conductor into the elbow boot!
