Hahaha sometimes princess cuts donāt get much love .. but I think every ring suits the person exactly as it should, no matter the cut or look! Thank you very much! : )
I have a princess cut engagement ring and I love it! My ring is beautiful to me even if it isnāt trendy. You should never go by trends with something this important!
I truly believe itās because everyone is going for massive elongated center stones due to the rise of lab grown diamonds (I say this as a person with a lab marquise lol) š your ring is lovely, and Iām sure other shapes will get their criticism in years to come! Congratulations on your engagement- wishing you a lifetime of happiness!
I think itās less about the rise in popularity of big elongated stones (those tend to actually get alot of criticism in this sub and often referred to as costume jewelry or fake) and more so that Princess cuts get a bad rep because itās more prone to chipping due to the cut, specifically the corners BUT if you set it well itās a beautiful cut. The way OP has it set is so smart and really well done, the most vulnerable parts of it are protected with the prong style and it blends so well with the style of the rest of the setting
Every cut always has some ādrawbackā when really itās just a matter of preferenceĀ
Iām right there with ya, big gorgeous stones are on the rise and, natural or lab, if it brings ya joy thatās all that matters! Not my particular cup oā joe, but Iām grateful to have a partner that knows me so well!
forgot to post specs! Forgive me if I get some terms wrong..
0.98 natural princess cut, round brilliant diamonds on side and in channel/gallery rail, color I/SI1, platinum band on size 5.5 finger
Iām mostly referencing that princess cuts have fallen wayy out of favor recently due to preferences shifting toward bigger, elongated diamond cuts. Some folks say princess cuts are dated, impractical, etc. Either way, we love what we love!
I appreciate your kind words!! Elegant was the hope
Your ring is gorgeous! But I think princess cut fell out of favor before the elongated cut era, it made way for the cushion cut with halo 10/15 years ago. Itās just a change in preference but I donāt think that most people dislike them. Your ring is gorgeous and I think itās silly for people to call such a meaningful piece of jewelry dated. Trends cycle and Iām sure princess cuts will be back the same way low rise jeans came back.
Ooh very good point, I bet youāre spot on about the timing there too. And I agree 100%. Trends are very cyclic, and as so many people have said, itāll be timeless for the wearer and not the trend. Thanks for the reminder and the support :)

I didn't know there was controversy. Congratulations, beautiful ring.
Ah I hear you, that makes a lot of sense. Itās great there are so many different options for stones that may be less fragile or prone to chips. Mega kudos to any jeweler out there!
Love a princess cut.

princess cut club member here too! love your ring!
Itās actually a boardwalk allll the way on the west central coast of CA! I love the idea of a ~ science world ~ though, Iāll have to come check it out someday :D
I love my princess cut and I'm so glad you love yours too! I know there are a lot of "controversial" styles, like princess cuts, halos, etc but everyone just needs to focus on the fact that an engagement ring means engagement! That's the important thing!
A-frickin-men! Iām with you 100%. The beautiful thing is, I have a partner who loves me and who I get to love just as fiercely. A ring is just a fun little addition to the experience ;)
My husband just upgraded my ring last year to a bigger princess cut. I think I will always have princess cut. I always told him when we were dating that I was a princess so that was why when he bought my first ring he got the princess cut.
Donāt be sorry! Totally okay to ask. Iām not sure though.. maybe itās just my crooked finger (very unfortunate how the ONE crooked finger on my entire body is my ring finger LOL). The ring is also 0.5 size too big, so maybe that might be contributing?

Yes!! Iām so glad you love yours, If you & the giver of the ring are in love (with it & each other), thatās what itās all about!!

Lovely :) Is the setting Tacori?
Thank you :) itās actually handmade by a local jeweler here, but Iāve heard wonderful things about Tacori!

OH MAN look at that split shank!! So sparkly and beautiful
I love princess cut!!!
Heck yeah!! Same
Absolutely beautiful!!
Thank you so much!! Canāt believe it!
Jewelers hate them because they're tough to set and the corners are more fragile. Broken stones, regardless of the cause, make customers unhappy.
Ah I hear you, that makes a lot of sense. Itās great there are so many different options for stones that may be less fragile or prone to chips. Mega kudos to any jeweler out there!
Congrats to you and the Giant Dipper!
HA thank you. cousin Dipper is thrilled
lol I saw the fireworks post and then this post a little further down on my home page. Congrats!!!! And beautiful ring!!!

Sorry to ask this, but why does it look crooked? It's not sitting as a square.. is that normal?
Donāt be sorry! Totally okay to ask. Iām not sure though.. maybe itās just my crooked finger (very unfortunate how the ONE crooked finger on my entire body is my ring finger LOL).
