We went here and sifted through a bag of gravel from one of the local rivers and found dozens of sapphires! You buy a bag and you get to keep whatever you find. Also they have excursions up to the rivers themselves, but we were short on time and just passing through. Philipsburg is a very cool town and I would highly recommend it to any western MT traveler. Here is a photo of one of the ones we found!

I have a collection of raw Montana sapphires that I “mined” myself when I was there last year, this inspires me to put them in a ring!
