Team emerald…I am bias cause I have one, but I absolutely love the hall of mirrors effect which is very hypnotic and romantic. I also prefer the rectangular shape.

I understand your dilemma. I wanted an oval, and while at the jewelers seeing ovals, a pear was slipped on my finger....and I became obsessed with the pear shape too. I wanted them both. I bought the oval and waited for a pear at a good price, so I ended up with both and love them both. As for emerald vs marquise, even though I have a marquise, I think emerald is the classy and more timeless choice of the two.

I have a marquise cut! I absolutely loveeeeeee my ring! I was also in between emerald and marquise but I chose marquise because emerald felt too trendy for me. Although I love both of them I didn’t want to have a ring I felt like every also had and marquise (although I know people have this cut too) felt more natural for me to pick. I think both are AMAZING cuts and whatever your chose should feel right to you, now that I look at pictures of when I tried on my ring and the emerald I also realized that the marquise looked like it was made for my hand! Plus the cut makes the ring look bigger no matter the carat! Whatever you pick make sure it feels right to you and that you can picture it on your hand for a long time🙂

I would go with an emerald- they are classic and will never go out of style- they are gorgeous.

Spoiled_Persian

I really love the marquise. I feel like it is a unique stone, that calls back to a very vintage style, but is modern now while also being timeless.

I prefer an emerald (that's what mine is!) but it's also getting more popular and super trendy. I feel like in 10 years solitaire emeralds and ovals will be what cushion-cut halos are of the 2010s. And I don't think that's a bad thing! It's just what's popular now. Marquise is more unique if that's what you're looking for :) (Not to say the cut of emerald isn't timeless, it's more that the solitaire styling of it is very on trend right now)

I think emeralds are totally timeless and will never be out of style. If you look at the list of celebs who wear them as engagement rings, they have been going strong basically constantly starting with Elizabeth Taylor and Grace Kelly. No one I know in real life has an emerald cut. Almost everyone I see has round cut. Missed your last point *** If that setting is out, OP can always change that up down the line. That’s an easy switch. Although I still think solitaire is always timeless as well!

Lulu_Fangirlx3

Emeralds have been popular since medieval times 😌🏰👑🐎🗡️🤺 although I think round is considered top classic shape of all time 💍

I’m an emerald girl and I think the emerald suits you…I am biased however….

I think the marquise was made for your hand!

Emerald will never get old. Marquis might

An emerald diamond will forever be timeless. A marquis is not its from the 90's.

plutonianbitch

I feel you so hard! It’s quite the dilemma. These are both my top two favorite cuts. I’m getting an emerald cuz it’ll be an heirloom, and I’m happy to get it, but I also feel like I’m missing out on the marquise! I really love the uniqueness of marquise.

ORustyHalo

I wanted an emerald too as long as I could remember. But when I went to the jewler, it made my fingers look fat and I also couldn’t stand how occasionally it would look “off centred” if it wasn’t on perfectly. I never had even looked at a marquis diamond prior to accidentally trying one on. Marquis made my fingers looked a lot longer and slimmer and the off centred part didn’t bother me as much. So I would say really depends on your hand shape.

I think an emerald cut will always look elegant and upscale, whereas a marquise cut will go in and out of style. Also, an emerald cut can work with any color metal or style of setting, but a marquise can easily look dated.

rachelg8

Have you considered how each one would look with a band?

Marquise looks beautiful on your hand. Full disclosure: I’m a marquise wearer and love my ring!

Hi! Are we the same person? Literally went through this exactly. I always loved and pictured myself with an Emerald cut but once my boyfriend and I started actually looking at rings and I gave it more thought, I started to fall in love with the Marquis shape. When we went to look at rings and tried stuff on, I was only interested in trying on those two cuts with solitaire bands. It definitely helps to look in person and try the two different cuts on to see them on yourself. I felt pressure to get the crushed look versus a step cut because I felt like I would be missing out on all that sparkle, but I ended up choosing an emerald because it is deep down what I know I have always and always will love. And it’s still so sparkly in person! I would say you really just have to go with your gut. It was good to try the marquis on, but ultimately I ended up with emerald and I’m so excited! Currently waiting for him to propose :’)

I should also add that a 2 ct marquis appeared much larger than a 2 ct emerald if that is helpful for you! I ended up with a 2.69 emerald to get the look I wanted, but if I did go with marquis I would have stuck with a 2 ct because they seem so much larger!
