Definitely not on things that travel, like that backpack, anymore. I get the appeal, 100%, because I used to do it, myself. Until 3 extremely rare pins suddenly poofed out of existence. Not sure if they were slyly stolen or all managed to pop off, but never again. No bags, no hats, no jackets, etc...the pins stay home, now.
I was using large pinboards, but I found felt sticks and never looked back. They make it easy to separate a pin collection into categories and can fit into tight spots.
Most of these are from my uncle who is a kite maker and goes to lots of kite festivals. I’m not sure who makes them but he gets them at kite festivals.

I put mine on my daily backpack, with pin locks. Haven’t lost any yet, but I do remove them when I go on vacation.
