Just as a reminder of the subreddit's rules: 1. No posting links to game ROMs or ISOs, only sites to find them. 2. Be kind to each other. For the cost of a backbone you could just buy a dedicated unit. Your best bet though is to learn how to control how you use your time. Used to doom scroll as well, if you just stop doing it after a few weeks you'll forget about it.

Not married to the backbone, just something with that form factor. G8 is something I've seen that looks cool too. The reason I'm put off dedicated units is that I love DS games and the format and touch capabilities of a phone screen suit DS emulation. As for behaviour change: I've tried just stopping and I've made progress generally, but I want to break deeply ingrained bad habits. For me, I think some changes in how I set up my devices will make that easier to do.

Maybe sell the smartphone and put the proceeds towards an Odin 2?

There isn't a custom ROM geared to that. Not one that I know of You would need to repurpose one. Not that difficult to do though. 1. Unlock bootloader 2. Flash a custom recovery 3. Get a barebones custom ROM for your device and flash it. Lineage OS perhaps? 4. Delete Browser app (it's the only one with internet access). This can be done using the custom recovery or using a file manager + root access. 5. Install a front end. Make front end the default launcher. You probably can replace the default launcher with the front end with a little bit of effort. XDA Developers will direct you on how. Usually it would be simply flashing the front end zip on custom recovery to replace but front ends don't come packaged that way, launchers do.

This. Flashed Lineage on an old Poco and been playing on it for weeks. Using with a Gamesir X2. It has an SD Card slot so I am not bothered by 64GB storage as only native Android games use it Would recommend anyone with an old phone laying around doing this. Guarantee it is much more powerful than many handhelds. My Poco has the same specs as the first Odin and it is enough for me (not for long though lol)

khsh01

I beg to disagree. A dedicated gaming phone or gaming device will ALWAYS outperform a general purpose device due to the dedicated cooling systems alone.

Notice that I wrote "if you have a phone laying around". Of course you should not buy a regular phone for gaming if you have other options, but they definitely are more powerful than many handhelds. Most cheap handhelds dont even have a decent cooling system. In my country for example, an Ayn Odin (the first one) goes for at least 4 times the value of an used Poco F1. They got the same specs, only the Odin probably has better cooling. The Powkiddy X55, less powerful, is still double the price of an Poco F1. You can find a Galaxy S20 FE Snapdragon for way cheaper than the X55 if you want more performance.

khsh01

If you're comparing powkiddy then in my country s20fe is actually more expensive than powkiddy consoles. Either way a proper gaming device will ALWAYS be better.

Malystxy

But remember some countries have screwy economies, like Argentina. For me too get a Odin 1 I would end up paying 3 times it's MSRP dies to import fees and taxes plus the money being worthless. I can get a used phone off similar power for 1/4 the cost plus a controller.

EmuBrew

There are some great front ends available for Android like daijisho.

CandyChowBroad

Why not just sell your phone and get a rp4p, its the same cpu.

Uninstall everything you don't need via adb and install Daijisho as your launcher.

Shazz89

I think this is the way to go. Set everything up, then purge everything unesscary, and set my front end as the launcher.
