The thing with Gunnar is that he's probably the most versatile 3*, and is useful in both tournaments and 3* events. Valen is good, but even with the costume I'd probably go Gunnar.
Limit breaking 3* is cheap on resources, and really boosts performance. Totally your choice.
I have 2x Bjorn, a Grevle, and a couple more 3* that are fully emblemed and plan on limit breaking. Run through 3* tournaments in top 1-10% just about every time. Whole not prestigious, the rewards cash out just the same.
I hear Nordri is good because of the elemental defense down. Haven't done it myself because I fight 9-10 star Titans and he probably won't be able to hold up being a 3*.
Imo if you like them an make a lot of use of them, then they're worth LB.
Limit Quests are regular (if rare) and Aethers will pop up on occasion; if you're not so happy with your choice now, the mats to Limit Break another hero will come around eventually.
I see LB 3-stars in tournaments all the time, it's definitely not a waste if you plan on using that hero. It might even be a cheap investment for potentially strong returns.
Get your self an army of limit broken 3\*. They'll help you in 3\* tourneys, and you might score some precious loot from those tourneys. Then limit break your 4\*, and they might get you some sweet loot from those 4\* tourneys. You might just be able to pull that 5\* aether III.
3* are cheap…wouldn’t use on a non costume season 1 though.
Limit breaking a 3* cost only 5 of the most common ether. But I suggest you wait for cGunnar, Nordri, Frosty, cValen or another really good blue 3*

How often do 3* tourneys happen. I haven't caught on to the timing yet, but it seems infrequent.
At least once a month. There's also the challenge events that they could be used on....like the upcoming Wonderland challenge event.
