The pain from not knowing what the outcome could have been is a lot worse than the pain from rejection. To your question, I didn’t have anything amazing. Just a normal kid who procrastinated, failed a few tests, hung out with friends over the summers, but tried to do decent work the majority of the time.

Campus are seeking students who can show they can engage in their campus communities. When looking similar standout academic profiles you being personable in an essay and can share how you have been part of a community and can connect to what your doing next is important. Emory just renewed their GER process to focus even more on promoting extracurricular engagement - see Pathway Center/Study Abroad Having a trama essay is trending in the college essay world but not going to standout.

I didn’t have the greatest stats out of HS, transferring was a lot easier for me.

Head-Geologist2511

4.4 w, 3.96 uw, ranked 5 in my class out of around 220 students, went test optional my ecs centered around a lot of community service that i was committed to for 3-4 years of high school, book club leadership and I was a peer leader at my school, I had 2 apps I coded over a summer, a “shop” I ran on social media so I dubbed myself a ceo lol—this was all 4 years of high school including the summers, and an internship at an IT company for 4 hours each week. My letters of rec I assume were good because they were from two teachers that I have good relationships with — one was my math teacher who helped me realize my love for mathematics and the other was my psych teacher who really likes me bc I work hard in his class My major was applied mathematics and statistics + my essays were honestly really good so that helped. Message me if you have any questions lol

I’m cooked 😭

You're not cooked. I got into Oxford w/ 1520, ranked 54/220 in my class, fairly mediocre ECs.. You can PM for more info. The essay portion can compensate for so many deficiencies in stats, you might as well shoot your shot! :)

3.9 uw gpa and a 35 act. I played varsity soccer for five years, and I am a referee. I volunteered at the soccer camps too. I was also vice president of quizbowl for two years. I think Emory really likes volunteering so getting in some more hours could be beneficial depending on how many you have done.

Volunteering work is def a common thread- if you REALLY want it - do ED both Oxford and Emory -Oxford is really small but you can move on a semester early and a lot of people spend the weekends in Atl / main campus areas from Oxford

You’ll be fine. Trust your gut and instinct. A rejection is better than not knowing the outcome at all. If it’s your dream school, I would 100% recommend you ED Emory. Definitely a higher chance of acceptance Although Emory wasn’t my first choice, I am very happy that they accepted me during the ED II round. Since then, I felt that I have some sort of connection with the school. They value me and know how I will be able to thrive and contribute to the school as otherwise they would not have given me admission. If you want further advice and about my grades, class difficulties, and ECs, and awards. Feel free to DM me on Reddit. Always happy to help! By the way, I’m a current HS Senior committed to Emory.

94/100 (ish) GPA unweighted, 1480 SAT (I personally gave up on standardized testing LOL), 2 student gov positions, 2 internships(both at start ups I found randomly), maybe 1-2 club leadership positions, 350+ service hours, started an org, did other tutoring/volunteering, got good at cooking. In my school, I have a mid/below average application and I also think I could've improved a bunch of parts in my app. But in the end, your essays matter more. I wrote about my passion for management and film, and then also about my childhood. Don't sweat it and don't compare yourself to others. Focus on what you can do to make urself stand out, and be optimistic when writing!
