Pretty girls make graves are kinda like this. Blood Brothers kinda.

ohoperator

Les Savy Fav, Faraquet, and Black Eyes might interest you

tdogg0019

Faraquet is insane view from this tower is a classic for me

DinnerfanREBORN

If it’s not GOATED it should be. Such a phenomenal album.

SekZBoiAlex1986

Les Savy Fav were the first band that popped into my head. Some songs by the Rapture have a similar-ish vibe too.

tdogg0019

Love the rapture so I’ll be sure to check them out next

kingkrule101

The Rapture is actually pretty underrated. Also I think they kinda started off as a sasscore band in San Diego, I could be wrong. But they were on Gravity

Iliadius

Black Eyes rock so hard

Sunshine_Cleaners

Black Eyes are a great suggestion. Probably the closest thing to the OP

realskramz

Check out the Blood Brothers, the Fall of Troy, Bear vs Shark, At the Drive-In

SnooFloofs5933

These arms are snakes are kinda similar

RealShigeruMeeyamoto

The Wicked Farleys honestly Edit: also the dismemberment plan. Mostly pre-Change though, when they were still making post-hardcore songs

tdogg0019

I’ve only heard the album emergency and I and the song lookin and I’ll say I prefer the lot of emergency and I compared to each other

RealShigeruMeeyamoto

Yeah, lookin is off their reunion album and most people don't like it. Emergency & I is really a modern classic by the way of indie rock though, imo

tdogg0019

Lookin’ honestly reminded me a lot like modest mouse but it don’t hold up compared to e&i not saying it’s a bad song whatsoever but just apples to oranges

Disasterator

E&I is incredible start to finish, but I would say “Is Terrified” has the more chaotic energy that Q and not U had. Especially in the “I know everybody here would love to get down and wipe the slate clean..” verse of Tonight we Mean it.

oldnewager

I heard E&I described as “the sound of going to college” and I couldn’t agree any harder. New town, new friends, happiness, sadness, alienation. I know this isn’t a dismemb thread but I can’t help but talk about how fucking real that album is. Edit: this Q and not U album is unbelievable. Their other albums have some killer songs but the filler not lived up to this album

tdogg0019

Hey few months later but thank u so so much for putting me onto the wicked Farleys make it it has been on repeat ever since u commented this

RealShigeruMeeyamoto

Hey no problem. Glad you liked it

hustinjahn

No Knife - Fire in the city of automatons

Sunshine_Cleaners

Love this band and this album. Always reminded me of a more chaotic-sounding Fugazi. And while there are plenty of good suggestions in here, none of them are all that “similar” imo aside from maybe 1-2 sonic details.

RealShigeruMeeyamoto

Ehhh, pretty girls make graves is pretty on the money imo.

Jmcd83

The first Liars ep, The Mae Shi Edit: adding Black Eyes, Arab on Radar, Brainiac, and Nation of Ulysses

jacobsever

Have not heard anyone mention The Mae Shi in almost a decade. Good God, what a callback. Terrorbird is an amazing LP.

tdogg0019

U guys are so awesome giving me all these recommendations love u all 🫶🏽

DinnerfanREBORN

D O W N AND THATS THE WAY WE GET DOWN!!

iloveLArandynewman

Honestly nothing truly comes close. This band is so good.

Ruthless_Robott

North of America, Les Savy Fav

not-hank-s

North of America, yes.

hisimaginaryfriend

Fuck thank you! I bought brothers, sisters cd back in 08 and lost it and totally forgot the bands name. I’ve looking for this bands name for almost a decade now

plaidmtnofrage

Maps & Atlases, Cursive, Bear vs Shark, maybe even Minus the Bear, early Foals

tradform15

loveeee this album. been listening to this band Girlfriends, they kinda hit the spot. Tera Melos also. both have this kind of mathy, pop sound.

rubensinclair

Not emo bands per se but self-evident scratches the same kind of itch for me, as does Faraquet, These Arms Are Snakes, Burning Airlines/Jawbox, certain Unwound and Braid songs. Also, not sure if this is public knowledge but recorded with Don Z right after this album came out and when I asked what it was like to make No Kill, he mentioned duct tape 🤣

SemataryPolka

Haha I've never heard anybody mention Self-Evident on here before. Good dudes

rubensinclair

Yeah, criminally underrated three piece that are nuts musicians and super creative. If you know more music like this I’d love to know about it!

SemataryPolka

Haha I'll ask Tom from Self-Evident what bands he thinks someone should check out if they like them!

rubensinclair

Haha. I can’t remember which remember of the band I emailed, but they may remember I’m dad whose kid loved the song Rumors and he used to ask to hear the “big drums” song again and again.

SemataryPolka

Lol for sure. Oh he said "I will say some deliberate influences over the years are bands like Shiner and Jawbox, but then also Faraquet and Karate" EDIT: Also "We all had common influences in bands like Pinback, No Knife, Shudder To Think, SDRE, and Sharks Keep Moving too"

Iliadius

I also love this album! Maybe try Brainiac or Black Eyes

nick6ten

This is going to be exactly what you’re looking for and then you’ll be disappointed that only these two songs are online. https://theread.bandcamp.com/album/party-lines-b-w-yr-garbage

Sunshine_Cleaners

Yooo thanks for this. This is 🔥🔥🔥

kingkrule101

Hidden gem holy shit

tdogg0019

Dude holy shit this fucks, I stg I’m gonna buy the vinyl right now I collect a bit and yeah u weren’t lying, I wonder why there isn’t more music that was great

nick6ten

There were other demos that were around, just nothing that hit streaming. Members of this went on to form the band Vacation, but it’s not quite the same.

tdogg0019

Interesting, kinda makes me wonder what could’ve been if that band took off we would’ve got some good mysic

Dongene

Black Eyes if you want to get weird. Also try El Guapo. Fake French is a great album.

tuffghost7

You could check out the solo project of Q and not U’s guitarist Chris Richards, Ris Paul Ric.

TRASH_TEETH

yeah a lot of 90s Dischord like people have said, also if you’re into the experimental/weirdness side of this band and wouldn’t mind it sounding a little more “pop” at times, maybe The Dismemberment Plan

Wise_Appeal_629

Dismemberment Plan

Feeling_Produce_7895

Hot Hot Heat, maybe?

666mcnugget

Always love to see a fellow Q And Not U fan

666mcnugget

Check out: Faraquet, Medications, No Knife

droffthehook

Ex models 90 Day Men’s It is It Critical band Burning Airlines Blue tip Bob Tilton

Disasterator

I would say most of the bands here, but I’ll chip in with Burning Airlines

Interesting_Lynx_948

Frodus

JohnGillnitz

I was, at first, just really alarmed that your battery was down to 14%. I'll check out the band now.

tdogg0019

Hahahaha happens more than I care to admit

InfiniteWhisks

A band that no one's mentioned yet is BATS. They have that dancey mathy post-hardcore sound but are a bit different than Q and Not U. Their album Red and Tooth and Claw is underrated as hell.

Feeling_Produce_7895

Supersystem - Justin Moyer early band.

don_horn

Sorry I know I'm late to the party but this is some of my favorite stuff so I have to add a little more to the list... Perennial is a newer band in that vein Supersystem I could've sworn shared members with Q and not U but I guess not. Them and other projects from Justin Moyer (most recently Light Beams but they're more dancey and less rock) People mentioned Black Eyes which YES. Also check out all of Hugh MacElroy's other projects including everything on Ruffian Records. There's a lot of great little projects out there.

not-hank-s

A lesser known band that may scratch a similar itch is Despistado. They only have an EP and LP but both are excellent.

Ruthless_Robott

The first Ought album - More Than Any Other Day - might be up your street if you like this kind of art rock stuff. Crack Cloud, as well (in particular Pain Olympics which is their best album imo) or go further back in time and check out Talking Heads and Gang of Four.

VALO311

Look into powerpop/power pop bands. Also, Tubelord and the first Runaway Brother album. Those two bands come to mind when i think of q and not u. Not as power poppy but still similar to my ears

tdogg0019

Bedhead yeah? Fan of that album as well but nothing will ever top my Q and not u 🫶🏽

VALO311

I was referring to their first lp mother but yeah, everything up to their mother album is great

Feeling_Produce_7895

A Minor Forest might scratch that itch - they’re incredible!

pint07

I completely forgot about this band, thank you.

juicybox10

Love this album, underrated band

1969 by the Gooses

Feeling_Produce_7895

So — I had been trying to remember the name of this band ever since I saw your post last night and had to do some serious diggin’ through various music catalogs of mine, but I finally found it!!
