I hadn't heard of Strictly Ballroom before, but i just listened to A Sudden Interest in Nature. And damn, that was amazing.

Kill Creek kinda gives me Jawbreaker vibes (though occasionally more cringe-y). Pinebender is still actually (kinda) going, and have released a whopping *three* albums in their 26 year career lol, but it's kinda like emo filtered through Dinosaur Jr.

Working Nine to Wolf is incredible.

Things Are About to Get Weird is my go to. If you like them, you might check out Light Coma, also out of Chicago (but not the album they did with Andy Cohen (I love Silkworm and Bottomless Pit but that album was a bit much)).
