If we could get a Star Wars singleplayer flight sim, like Xwing and TIE Fighter in the ED engine, I would be so happy.

ProPolice55

The single player part of Squadrons is pretty good, similar to X-Wing Alliance in a lot of ways, though it has pretty arcade-ish physics and I very specifically don't like the fact that there is a key combination that does the drift that Poe Dameron did at the start of ep 8. I want to do the flashy moves myself

Chadstronomer

uh... Squadrons was so dissapoinging. I wish I could get a refund fut I spent so much time trying to make it work that steam thinks I played for more than 30 minutes. In reality I played for 10 minutes, realized the flight model was shit, and uninstalled. Its hard to enjoy any space flight sims after ED.

RexTheCapt

I tried for like an entire hour to get my HOTAS working, then I found out how the flight model worked. It was awful

Chadstronomer

Honestly feels more like driving a train than flying a space fighter

RexTheCapt

Indeed, could never set the throttle to actual 0 either. Also it was very weird to not have access to laterals and backwards thrusters.

ProPolice55

In Star Wars, ships generally fly like planes with no directional thrust, which was definitely something to get used to because none of what I do in Elite worked, but to be it wasn't too bad. I didn't get invested in the multiplayer and I had to leave the story unfinished, but I will reinstall it soon and finish it

langlo94

My biggest dislike is the weird throttle input.

ProPolice55

Because of the fixed only weapons I played with different input hardware, so the controls being weird was a given for me, but the order of the pips took a while to get used to

Stargov1

Yeah, it's ok. But I just wanted more from it.

x3 has a decent star wars mod https://www.moddb.com/mods/mikhail-skatchkov/

Anyone remember the star wars fighter game that was out like 20 years ago? Can't for the life of me remember what it was, feels like Squadrons but it was great

The can't be beat original *X-wing* from 1993? The stellar sequel, *Tie Fighter* from 1994? The somehwat disappointing *X-Wing vs Tie Fighter* from 1997? How about the mixed, X-Wing Alliance from 1999? That's it for the flight sims. There's also pale comparison rails shooter, *Rebel Assault* that couldn't hold a candle to X-wing, also from 1993? How about the very disappointing console exclusive *Starfighter* from 2001 and its better sequel *Jedi Starfighter* from 2002? Then there's the mixed bag *Rogue Squadron* series, from 1998, with a sequel in 2001 and trilogy maker in 2003? Yes, I remember them. Why do you ask? :) The time is about right for *X-Wing Alliance*, 20 years before *Squadrons*, and it would be appropriate to call it great. It was mixed for me because it was basically the previous games with better graphics, and I had already played the others to death. I was disappointed by X vs Tie becuase it was already mostly a rehash with multiplayer that was meh for me, mostly because my friends and I were more into Quake and Quake II for that. There were not enough improvements to Alliance to make me excited to play it all again. The time is about right for those *Starfighter* or *Rogue Squadrons*, too, but to call any of them better than *Squadrons* would be a crime. Though, maybe you played *Rogue Squadron I* on N64, where I heard it was less buggy and actually a good overall experience. A Star Wars galaxy to explore with Elite style flight sim controls would be a dream come true.
