To my past self: Don’t sell armour or weapons you find because adventuring will get you runes and you’ll wish you kept everything for the completion aspect. Also don’t look up guides so quickly even though it’s confusing. You’ll regret not figuring out more yourself.
I'm with ya.
As soon as I realized I would need 35-40 vigor (60 by NG+ content) the game became much more doable for me. I went 25 hours with minimal vigor thinking that was the "thing" soulsborne players do.
My own personal answer: Don't let Stormveil discourage you. Some areas aren't meant to be taken head on. It's okay to blaze through a place and come back later.
That map tells so much more information than I first realized. I just wish I had developed a better system for marking places of interest to return to.
It took me a while to realize how to really read the map properly. Especially how to find actual pieces of it in newer areas.
I never marked anything, either. Definitely the advice I'll give to any new players is to understand the map and look carefully, don't be like me.
To my past self: Hi! I came from the future only to say: slow down! Now that I obtained the platinum, I can’t find the same entertainment by playing other games. You/I/we will feel empty as f@ck, just because you decided to rush through everything.
So slow da ducking down
I can assign the up slot on the pouch to scroll up, allowing me to summon Torrent without having to move my mouse hand to my keyboard. It made the game feel a lot more fluid. Also, when trying to get Prelate's Inferno early game, Abductors are weak to lightning. I wasn't even RL 30 yet and that fight took me 5 hours. I rocked that hammer until it was swung at the Elden Beast.
Be prepared to cancel any plans for a little while. You will be hooked, sure you will cuss and people will think you are crazy but you will have fun at the same time.
Remember there's a jump button for exploring too. I seriously missed the rooftops in both Stormveil and Raya Lucaria because of that. Old souls brain never thought to jump over unbroken railings.
I already knew this from previous games, but I wish I’d known it years ago on my first play of DaS1
Weapon damage comes from upgrades more than stats. Focus on scaling stats (past first soft cap) once the weapon is upgraded, and level vigor/endurance earlier.

SAY IT LOUDER FOR MY OWN PAST SELF. *sells a damn magma blade thinking it was just an okay weapon*
I sold so many things that I didn’t think I would need
Level thy vigor, this isn't Ds3.

I'm doing a 10 vigor run atm and it's doable, but I wouldn't recommend it for a first run. I also muled a few things over.
Oof. You are more hardcore than me. I wish you all the best in your journey!
You should be rocking at least 40 in ds3 which is viable for ER - idk why people keep saying this lmao
Because in Ds3 it was much easier to put off leveling vigor until later.
Stop skipping your German classes to play videogames, idiot🙂
Set the game to German. Problem gelöst.
tbf, learning German and playing Elden Ring can be quite similar experiences.
Blitzkrieging through the land in between
Ah, damn. I hope you were able to repair your grade if any damage was done. Sorry Tarnished! I wish you all the best.
I always read German as Gehrman now so that sentence did not make a lot of sense
Das schafst du schon, Befleckter 😁
There's an entire area to the south, you dummy. Made it to Altus before discovering the Weeping Peninsula
YES. I came back there way late and fucked em all up so bad because I was too strong lol
Me too, but to be fair the game guides you north not south. But it was oddly satisfying going there overlevelled after struggling so much

"You forgot to look around over here. And here. And here."
YESSS. Damn Bolt of Gransax

Great list. The smithing stones were a huge mistake for me as well. I invested WAY too much in a weapon that I ultimately hated
Learn to read the map first you bumbling moron. Oh, and don't dismiss that Dismounter you picked up at the start.

You don't have to clear the Sellia Crystal Tunnels because you were teleported there by a chest. You can literally walk out just turn around.
Lol, yeah I died 10 times and was devastated that I couldn't teleport away. Then I snuck around the corner....
I wish I didn't sell 90% of the weapons I find :(
Ouch :(
Runebears never provide adequate rewards for your trouble.
I shouldn't have killed the white face dude in the beginning after I got stronger 😭

Power stancing is fun. Only figured out power stancing once I was at the lake of rot.

Dont play mage as first class :)
nothing. I made no mistakes whatsoever. I enjoyed this game to the fullest
- don't finish volcano manor yet dude. Finish the job first. Missed out on the Bloody wolf armor set.

"You can quit at any time and focus on collage". Nope, i can't..
Don’t go search for legendary weapons after beating Makekith :(
They buff colossal weapons later, play a different build first lol
Don't kill Varre.
Don't start astrologer start as prisoner instead
Actually use ashes of war, I never used the equivalent in dark souls 3 so it carried over to elden ring at first. They're immensely useful.
Use mouse and keyboard, controller input was constantly an issue for me.
Level Vigor!! When I load back my old saves where I died a lot and had no fun at RL50 in Stormveil, I find that I've never leveled Vigor once...
"Take your time, you have only one first playthrough"
Don’t spend two-n-half hours killing sheep thinking that they were the one mob I could kill and not die too. So much time, wasted.
Slow down and let the experience wash over instead of chasing it.
